  • Today I'm going over my TOP 5 budget bass fishing combos. There are a lot of great sales right now. You can get great budget gear at an even better price!!!
IF YOU WANT TO SUPPORT DEBO'S FISHING, PLEASE CONSIDER USING THE LINKS BELOW!
    Baitcaster Combo 1:
Rod - Ark Catalyzer (I got the MH and it's a great all-purpose rod) bit.ly/3auurfU
Reel - Abu Garcia Max X (Probably my favorite reel under $60) bit.ly/3CNDWja
    Baitcaster Combo 2:
Rod - Daiwa Aird X (The Aird X rods do run on the soft side. I got the med and it feels closer to a med light. This preforms like a $100 rod) bit.ly/3tEA2Hz
Reel - Daiwa CC 80 (Casts well and simple to operate) bit.ly/3VyCsE7
Reel 2 - Daiwa Tatula CT (If you want an aluminum frame or a reel that can really sling a lure, it's a great upgrade. It does come with a higher cost too!) bit.ly/3zFKhMN
    Baitcaster Combo 3:
Rod - Shimano SLX (VERY comfortable with pretty good sensitivity) bit.ly/3QOcpbg
Rod 2 - Daiwa Tatula XT (Great overall with casting and cranking options) bit.ly/40yCXyE
Rod 3 - Dobyn's Maverick (I have loved the 705CB crank rod. I've used it for topwater and crankbaits, it has performed very well!) bit.ly/45DfMqT
Reel - Shimano SLX (Smoothest at this price point, casts well once you get it dialed in. That can be a bit tougher for a beginner) bit.ly/3Ji6vtD
Reel 2 - Lew's LFS (Best beginner reel at $100 with externally controlled magnetic brakes. It's low profile and comfortable for hands of all sizes) bit.ly/3cWPxl5
    Spinning Combo 4:
Rod - Daiwa Aird X (Excellent do-it-all reel. Again, a bit soft but I don't mind that for most spinning applications.) bit.ly/3lK4JHn
Reel - Daiwa Regal (Does it all well and looks AMAZING) bit.ly/496WqKW
Reel 2 - Daiwa Revros (Great workhorse at this price!) bit.ly/3XoTkPS
    Spinning Combo 5:
Rod - Daiwa Tatula XT (Most refined feeling at this price. Good sensitivity and has ex fast options for jigs and ned rigs) bit.ly/3Xyaj05
Reel - Shimano Nexave (Does it all well for the midwest dinks that I catch!) bit.ly/3iexFEP

Great video. I love these informative videos like this. I learned how to use a Baitcaster by a video you made a few years ago. I had tried a few times years ago, but was not successful and hated it and always went back to my Spinning rod. After several other RUclipsr videos, I luckily came across your video..and Viola...I finally got it.. (all because of you). I caught my first 3.0 LB Bass this week on a Baitcaster... so Thank you for walking through each step on the BC video, as it was a success (FINALLY) for me. I yelled out loud...THANK YOU DEBO.

Hey Debo: About spinning combos, I have 14 (9 of which cover all my kayak bassin' applications). For preference and budget reasons, I made a pact with myself never to buy another baitcaster. To me, they are at best "redundant", at worst a "money pit". Especially BFS. Spinning has always been able to do what BFS is trying to do. I dare say many baitcaster bass anglers bought their combos long before realizing that braid-to-fluoro makes spinning perfectly suited for bass fishing.

I’ve been entertained the most by some of the 13 Fishing Blackout rods I picked up for $20/rod when they were on sale. Versatile enough that I’ve put topwater copoly on one and thrown ploppers and walking baits, and I’ve put fluorocarbon on the other and thrown Texas rigs. Have one in spinning that I’ve tossed all kinds of stuff with as well. Fishing doesn’t always have to be expensive. They made great gifts too!

I've been anti-KastKing for years, but I just decided to revisit them and try out one of their MegaJaws casting reels, and it has been a huge & very pleasant surprise. For just $72 I was skeptical but so far it has really impressed me with its backlash-eliminating brakes and smoothness. I can't judge the longevity of it yet but we're off to a good start and I'm considering buying a second one in a higher gear ratio to build a second combo out of it.

Max x was my go to budget reel, can be found on sale for $38. However, the Ark gravity 1 crept up on me. I think it’s $79, but on sale at $68 its worth it. I agree about the ark catalyzer and then next step up would be the Cobb series. Between those two rod series it’s easy to put together 3 - 5 rods to cover all types of fishing. …. $100 reels, shimano slx hands down best reel. Next step up rod wise I actually like the Cashion element at $129 or around $108-110 on sale. It’s been sneaky rod that’s very comfortable. ….. budget spinning I actually like the savage gear squad rod at $89. I love the actions on the rods and they’re durable. Reel like the Okuma Avenger for around $47.

I've recently stepped away from buying rods. I found mudhole tackle and have began building rods. The reel seat locking nut issue that debo has can be fixed really easy. There are so many styles of everything that you can simply choose the one you want. They can also be modified. On one rod I set up the reel seat "backwards" to get that locking nut behind the reel and away from my finger. It took a bit of dremmel work, but it's now exactly where I want it. A good rule of thumb is that you can build a rod for about half of retail. No more bad guide placement and too few guides leaving hard ass angles or the line rubbing against the blank. No more wishing there was a different style or location of hook keeper. You can keep them simple looking or go as wild as you want with all sorts of decorative wraps, inlays, decals, marble work, customization options are almost endless. There are kits to start out, making sure you get compatible parts and don't forget a piece or you can get everything separately and really get into the weeds on your own personal needs and wants. It's also a nice way to spend time inside when the weather doesn't want you fishing.

After you use one, you'll be spoiled. I'd put it up against any rod. Yes, thee sensitivity rod as well, because I have one of them too.

Great breakdown. Quick note on the pricing not being available until you put it in the cart. It’s a work around a “minimum advertised price” agreement that distributors make with manufacturers. It’s not uncommon these days

Would love to know if you’re picking up a heavy rod that’s primarily going to be a frog rod spooled with braid but with a 15-20 leader could double as a T-rig/jig rod if you’d go with the Catalyzer, Tatula, or SLX. Trying to decide if it’s worth the extra $40 to bump up to the Tatula or SLX from the Catalyzer. Love the videos!

I have a Tatula ct on a Diawa Laguna and I like it. I have quite a few air d x rods and I love them but I the laguna is decent also I will be upgrading eventually but laguna with the ct is pretty good too. I might’ve cracked it on a 6lber with a frog in heavy moss but it’s still working great for me that was quite a while ago and I fish EVERY day. Weightless Sanko flukes frogs lipless cranks and everything else I’ve tried on it will go across the lake… even after the cracking I felt with the tatula ct non of the baits are safe lol.

Best budget combo has to be the daiwa aird x spinning and varying paired with a lews speed spin spinning reel and either a black max/ max x, if you don't care about matching or the bps tourney pro in silver for a few extra bucks and a solid reel.

I know my Tatula ct buys flight tickets for baits… any size I’ve tried on it.. my Tatula 100 doesn’t travel by air but a very nice smooth drive.. lol I also bought a used one that someone messed up the no adjust tension so idk if that helps or not. The tension knob moves very easily like on its own sometimes. My understanding is they’re supposed to not move or be very hard to move it. Wonder if they broke something.
