No BS, when you are fishing in some pretty clear water and that bass flashes on your lure when you get it close to you and you see it flash....that little jolt of adrenaline....that was it for me. That is why I started bass fishing. Also, my first baitcasting combo was also a black max. I even learned how to take it apart and clean it. Had that one for a LONG time. Lot's of memories catching lots of fish on that. And YES....my share of birds nests too! Most I could get out....but a couple I had to CUT the line completely off and then re-spool. Appreciate the trip down memory lane. Keep them coming!

I always suggest the $3.00 Zebco mono 700 yards for 12 or 15# to people new to baitcasters it sure beats birds nesting expensive line during the learning curve
I just oiled my baitcaster for the first time and I had it about 2 weeks, when I got done oiling it, it started acting wierd and tried casting right away after oiling it and it would backlash a lot more. I put the tension knob as tight as possible and It couldn’t hold a 1/4oz jig head with a creature bait in place. I turned the knob up all the way that press down the spool release and it would drop fast. Do you know why

I've been seeing a couple of the 6'6" medium combos with the verion of the reel with the red knobs. Bought one of course because I was there to buy the reel. But when you can get the combo for $10 more than the reel itself, why not. Would love to see a 7' medium heavy at Walmart at some point. Maybe the best budget reel out there IMO. Thanks and take care bud.

Black max comes in two variations. Most you see is the 6'6" m but they have a 7' mh version I've seen. It's not the best starter though for a little more you can get the lews xfinity or the shimano ciaus combos.

Sorry but the Lews Xfinity for $88 at wal mart is the very best cheap rod and reel ever. Abu Garcia vengeance isn’t bad. Haven’t tried the black max tho.

I was thinking I was the backlashing king but getting better and it does take sometime nice tips thank you

I found a left hand retrieve black max reel for under $20 in Walmart, waiting on a rod in the mail right now to pair it with!
