I loved this game as a child and one thing I really appreciate about games of that time is that back then games used to reward time, effort and player’s skill over other things. In Gran Turismo 2 to get full gold in diriving license you had to master driving skills. If you failed to get full gold, you had to buy a second hand car from the ‘80s and from there, step by step, you would get supercars. Nowadays most driving games give you supercars from the beginning and so there is no rewarding system. Even when there is a rewarding system is nothing close to the GT2 one. My goal in GT2 was to build a diverse garage with touring cars, muscle cars, “normal” cars, rally cars, supercars, etc. and use them to compete against my cousin’s garage in an unlimited combination of races. It was real fun and the time and effort needed to get all of the unique cars and build a diverse garage made this game my favourite driving game of all time.
Forza has been the worst for this, especially Horzon. I love progression in starting with a slow car and finishing eventually in a much faster car, but Forza hands you crazy cars from the start in the newer Forza's. I love Forza 2, 3 and 4 for this reason, as the progression system is great.
@@ketchuppikachu1990 I have never played Forza as I never had an Xbox but I know exactly what you are talking about. GT2 for me was the best, games like Toca Touring Cars or GRID, where you are a professional pilot and have a career like gamepath were still decent because you would start with mid level race cars and get stronger cars only later on on the game and only if you had skills. Newer games however make you start with Lambos and give you supercars as a prize for playing 3 days in row. Such games act as if supercars from 10 years ago are basic and the main deal are the Limited Version ones or the one from 2-3 years ago but it doesn't work that way, not for me at least. If I start from the top and there is no hustle there is no fun playing.
Just been through the GT2 licenses for the first time - honestly some of these weren't too bad! The Mini one was fun and fairly doable, the Subaru one is easy as pie and the Mitsubishi one was no trouble. Some others like the Ford GT40 were challenging but overall fun.
The rally times for the NA version of GT2 has really slow gold times. The Mitsubishi gold req. time is 9 secs slower than the PAL version, sounds like youre american, you have the slowest times for gold out of all regions if you are from NA ofc.
@@Ardonn Damn I just saw this comment lol, nah I'm British - I just got the American copy because it was what I could find, thanks for letting me know about the PAL version though, gonna see how much more difficult it is!
Man, you have given me renewed hope to be able to do this now, for years I only thought it was possible with a wheel and MT. And this is my absolute favorite GT game so time to give it a real good crack again :)
@@granturismofan2751 I'm guessing it's easier on the PAL version which is the version I believe you had. S-9 for me was a nightmare. This is one of the few tests in the game where your lap times has to be 100% perfect to get gold on.
@@granturismofan2751 I think the PAL version's times for some tests are easier than the NTSC version. So if you had the NTSC version of this game, you're gonna find license S-9 unbelievably hard.

You are so amazing at doing these license tests and you worked hard for them!

Nice, it must take a lot of time to earn the Gold medals, nice...
For the later tests, yea it does but as long as you keep trying you'll get gold eventually :)
I just play GT2 after a long time, Im still stuck with that Pennzoil on midfield, I always get silver
@@granturismofan2751 it's not that hard, though. The only thing you need is agressiveness on the corners.
@@Shun_GT I finaly got him, after some time, you're right the corners are key.
@@granturismofan2751 once i got a 29.902 on the tunnel corner and then i still get silver, idk how tf he did the corner after the tunnel one.
Finally got the GT-one. Never thought it would be possible but it took less than an hour for me
