I once picked up a friend outside the GauTrain station in Johannesburg's CBD. I was then accosted by five taxi drivers who demanded 1500 from me or they take my car. I was there for 45 minutes, with no cops or security assisting. I eventually paid the 1500.
I have no sympathy for the taxi industry and I am happy for them to be regulated out of business. They have been treating us like rubbish forever.

Sorry brother. In Durban they took my cousins car whom was doing a lift share with his girlfriend's colleagues. I went to the rank and asked who has the car keys, they remained silent, that's when I told them tracker was alerted and we have recorded them take it. They quickly gave me the car. I gave them my number for future sakes. My cousin stopped the lift club

Where in the constitution does it enshrines about R1500 fine for picking someone on the streets, they are crazy ...
Thanks to Bolt and Uber, taxi industry is starting to smell the coffee of competition, they have been monopolizing the industry for long....

    • @RastaAfricanGentleman
      @RastaAfricanGentleman 11 месяцев назад +7

@@harryramphele7102 no constitution to enforce this but it is no different than having no street vendors and hawkers near big centers, malls and certain schools. Same type of monopoly near taxi ranks exists and people who ride them mostly know this, obviously they are more criminal than the other. I agree though we need competition now but let those competitive companies be African or South African

After getting inside my car, they produced their cards 'written Benoni taxi association, they told me to go with them to their taxi office, i refused.
I said to them, we rather go to police station first for me to get protection and i stood my ground, they left me.

We can't even have conversations with friends standing on the side of the road without being victimized by a taxi driver for not stopping them. I was a victim of not stopping a taxi when it passed because I was still having a conversations with a friend, when the taxi that I was in reached the changing spot, that where I was put in a taxi I didn't stop and the driver harassed me trying to remove me from a taxi. As commuters we feel like we are owned by taxi operators

SABC failed to bring in Metro and transport MMc to elaborate, that taxi associations don't own roads. they only have jurisdiction on routes against other taxi operators, not ordinary civilians or other modes of transport. I can tell my cousin to stand next to a taxi rank I'll pick him up from there and I should not have to worry about being fined. As long as someone is not pointing out a taxi sign they're allowed to get a lift, it's a free world. Whether on the side of the road on anywhere - ordinary drivers should be free to drive around without fear of Taxi drivers and associations.

  • @Professor_Stark

These people carry guns, shamboks, and stick weapons even. They do as they please, drive on sidewalks, harass other drivers and drivers giving people lifts. It’s been going on for years and it’s sad having to leave someone you know on the street in fear of these thugs. Santaco needs to be stricter and there should be a helpline of some sort for incidents like these which one can report on the spot. Better solutions and repercussions should be put in place to protect citizens and dealing with offenders.

I am a white woman. I do animal welfare in the informal settlements
I often give lifts to people who have to walk kilometres back to their homes. They anyway do not have money to pay for taxis
Sometimes women who have to walk from the houses where they do domestic work to the taxi ranks. Because they do not have the money for all the shifts. In the rain. In the 37 degrees of heat. Often people going to town looking for piece jobs. I dont ask for money. Ive been offered, but declined
Every time those people who i have helped were so grateful

The problem is most of these marshals and taxi drivers are not that educated at all, so reasoning is a bit of a challenge. They dont understand the basic laws of business, all they understand is violence. I remember catching a taxi from Carlton center to Riverlea with Nancefield taxi and Riverlea taxi association RTA refused for me to drop off at my destination. I was forced to drop off about 2km from my stop. The worst part is I was in the taxi with a pregnant lady who also dropping off at my stop, I completely cancelled RTA. I will never board taxis for Riverlea Taxi Association and I have found out that Im not the only one who is not using RTA taxis because of their attitudes.

The taxi industry should not push disadvantaged people against the wall. People have overthrown governments, powerful n influential people. They must use apartheid regime as reference, guns n intimidation won't a revolution. They should work with the community not against

They did this to us on our way back to JHB from EC. We were using one transport and they wanted us to pay a fine of 1.5. Yheey I refused , spoke to one of the taxi owners and they had to let us go. It’s bad, ungovernable cowntry!

That Rebecca lady is now changing her tune and attitude. She had a nasty attitude during her interview with newzroom. It sounds like the taxi industry is in bed with the local police. I'm so glad citizens are speaking up. No industry should be above the law.

So after hearing her story, Why still ask her to pay R300, what is the money for. Mina my bolt was taken at Tembisa mall after going to the Police station, we were told that cops dnt get involved with bolts and taxis, abazingeni in simple terms. So this needs to be a national emergency and the minister needs to address this and draft a law or legislation against this. The taxi industry is just operating a free will in this country. They own the country.

If it's done to their own families will they allow this to happen. They don't own the roads but vehicles or their taxis. They literally park even in the paving pedestrians supposed to walk. This is how they are bully and think they own people

taxi patrollers are only to check taxi not member of public. They are not traffic polices or above the law so, please if this happen call saps as this is hijacking and kidnapping, they have no right as we have a choice to assist people in life This is a big problem in Nelspruit

If these taxi owners and taxi drivers know how we suffered during apartheid era. They must think twice because we are free to walk or travel or board any mode of transport anywhere in the country. It's our freedom and they don't own people but materials which are vehicles or their taxis or cabs
