You're a lifesaver, this is LITERALLY the type of video I needed. When you say budget friendly, you mean it. You srsly know lighting, with or without equipment. That's real expertise. THANK YOU!
THANK YOU!! I bought the Raleno light panels you recommend and they are *amazing*! I am a very small RUclipsr, without much technical savvy. These lights are simple, lightweight, and easy!! I could set them up on the simple lightstands I already had, plug them in, adjust brightness & color temp with simple dials!! The video i shot in my small filming room looks great. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. You are amazing!!
Best lighting video, period. Everyone else on YT wastes time making stupid jokes or gags, and regurgitate the same generalized tips from a Google AI search result they've probably copied and pasted into their scripts.
I struggle with this like crazy. It looks so easy. You’d think “ah just put a lighting “up but NOPE! I’ll take some of these tips into account. Thank you.

I've watched several lighting vids over the years, but I found this one particularly helpful and understandable, thank you! I have been struggling filming in a tiny room, two big softbox lights and glasses... I can't seem to get it 100% but you've given me a few things to do that I hadn't heard before or thought of. MUCH thanks. Hi from Canada!
YESS! I needed this one too. The teacher in me needs to hear ALL angles in a lesson. This is that lesson. Me too, small room, soft box, and extra lights. I still feel my lights need work. Great video Justin and PVA! 👍❤️
I'm setting up for my live stream in a new room and for the first time trying the 3 point lighting system. Your excellent video was very helpful. Thank you so much!
I'm here again for a 2nd viewing. Your research is always on point - this is exactly the topic I've been working on and poof = there's your new video on the subject!! :) You guys are awesome!! 👍
Thanks, this is an incredibly helpful video. I've been really struggling with lighting but have decided to invest in a decent lighting kit rather than the unadjustable cheap lights I've been working with. The tip about the position of lights for glasses is great.
Glad the video helped! Investing in a good lighting kit will definitely make a difference. I'm happy the tip about light positioning for glasses was useful. Happy filming! 😊- Hazel, PV Team
Man I love those videos with simple to implement YT tips. Just 40 more subscribers and I'll pass the magic 10K mark. Been binge watching PrimalVideo content for days to implement in future videos. 🤩
Thank you so much for this video! You truly are great at teaching in an easy way for beginners like me! I have not found a single video that was so clear and on point! You truly do amazing work and i can see why you have so many subscribers! Thanks again so much! New subscriber here:)
Thanks JB, this is just what i needed! I travel all the time so i wanted a set up that i can use if filming in a hotel room for example. I think for me, positioning myself in front of a window and using a fairly portable LED light panel to light me or my background is a great solution.
My key light is a single Mini Twister bulb in a big 27 inch round paper pendant ball thingy from Ikea. It hands from the ceiling. Hair light and background light are both Sylvania LED colored SmartBulbs that I can make any color (kinda like the Philips Hue but don’t need a hub). I have a crazy bright ring light and 2 soft boxes but I don’t use them because the I like how Ikea paper ball light diffuses. It’s simple, cheap, and perfect for my itty bitty studio.
Very nice, thank you! May I ask for help? Is there any FREQUENCY issue to be aware of, when buying light? I am trying to film with the smartphone and my RGB light are flickering on the movie, as if I where filming an old tube television... :( Any hints?
Great video! one question please. can we use photo umbrellas instead of soft boxes? if so which is better: "shoot through" or reflector like photo umbrella?
Hey there... thank you for this video. We are developing a whole basement in our office into a new studio for @chamberlaingroup channel we run and thinking of using the Philips Hue pots as background and some fill lights as needed... However, have you found if there is flickering with them when recording? I can't find info on that anywhere so hopefully you have an answer or some insight! Truly appreciate it!!!
You’re the man. Thank you! Question though.. for the big cinematic light in the back, where do you get the holder/tripod? I found one on Amazon, “aperture” or something along those lines, but it’s just the diffuser light setup. I am so confused on how to complete the rigging. I can’t figure out what to buy to make sure I have the entire thing lol..
Thanks a lot for this! MAy I ask what video edotor are you using? In particular, I am looking for post-production editing before publishing on youtube!
Awesome content as always, Justin. Really useful for those like me who are trying to navigate what we actually need against what we are worried it might cost while setting up a video channel. You are my goto for so much of your insight.
Thank you!…this video really helped me a ton…I’m currently filming my content on an iPhone 13 Pro Max….would I need to change the lighting at all for that compared to using a professional camera?….also, what teleprompter equipment are you using?
Another cheap item used for lighting is the use of a reflector and you can get them that fold into a pouch. They come in various types like gold for a walm glow, silver for a stronger fill in< white of course and even black to give a dramatic effect. one really good thing about these is you won't run out of power. But do need a good point source of light or a North facing window as many photographers will tell you.
As always, a very helpful video. I've been doing pretty much what you explain here, but I can see how I can tweak things a bit and improve what I'm already doing. Thanks!
Very informative as always. Question...does lighting improve camera quality. Hi Justin, very useful video, I purchased the smaller LED Raleno light. I have figured out how to have good lighting with it in the day, however, I am struggling at night. What kind of diffuser are you using for your light? I like the feel it gives off, but I can't seem to find the name. Great video!
Finally someone who explain with scenarios, great job!

Because often my Samsung Galaxy Ultra 22 is where I film from and in selfie video mode whether it be using Open Camera or the Camera app it comes with sometimes more often than not it comes out in poor quality?...long winded question lol
Yes, improving lighting can definitely make your videos look better. A lot of cameras struggle in low light.

You're welcome - glad you liked it! 👍 - Hazel, PV Team

Hi Justin, very useful video, I purchased the smaller LED Raleno light. I have figured out how to have good lighting with it in the day, however, I am struggling at night. My lightbulbs are making the room too orange, and with the lights off it's too white from the Led light. What ceiling lights should I purchase, if you were willing to email me, I can send you a picture of my room and the type of ceiling lights I have.
Interesting and helpful. I'm curious what's your ISO and F stop and focal length? With the F4.5 kit lens that came with my canon sl3 I find I have to put my lights on max brightness in order to keep the ISO at or below 800? Thanks for your attention. TheXaminedLife
I think I shoot at f1.6, ISO 200-300
Which lights are the best buy to get rolling - VILTROX VL-162T CRI95+, YONGNUO YN 300 II or NEEWER's Bi-Color 660 LED Video Lights or other?????
Thanks for your suggestions in advance!
Are you ceiling lights connected to the power grid running on AC power? Didn't see them flicker, any trick to that?
Which teleprompter are you using?
Do you have any tips for us spectacle wearers? I don’t have the space for a studio type setup so use any room in the house with a ring light and a couple of smaller LED panels, but am struggling with reflections of the lights (especially the ring light) in my glasses. Thanks for all the great info.
Hey, check out 09:47... that should help you out for a glasses set up 👍
This is so helpful, thanks a lot for sharing ☺️
Sweet! You're welcome! 😊
fantastic... really helpful and explained well :)
Amazing - great to hear that! 😊
