Lighting is such a crucial element of filming videos. It can make or break an entire video and first impressions are super important if you want to turn that viewer to a subscriber. Make sure you have adequate lighting in the right areas, then you'll make sure to impress anyone watches your videos! 👌🏻

Great video. This is one of the elements of RUclips that I really struggled with when I started just over a year ago. I found it so difficult. It took me about nine months to finally get it right and consistent.
Two tips: 1) a slight shadow on the face is indeed good and gives a bit more of a natural look; 2) Daylight is actually your enemy. I loved having bright natural light but if a day was overcast the amount of light would be constantly changing. This would make editing really hard. One sequence would be underexposed then the next overexposed. It was horrible. I now shoot with blinds down using just artificial light set to 5500k on every video. The difference to the quality of my videos is amazing and I spend far less time having to mess with settings.

Awesome breakdown! I'm currently using a 2 point lighting system (1 key light and 1 fill light). I keep it simple and just put them 45 degrees on each side, resulting in flat lighting (functional but boring). Might experiment moving the fill light around to create more dramatic lighting.

I've been using Godox SL150ii, Godox ML60, Aputure AL-MW (small "pocket" lights) and FlashPoint M1 (RGB pocket light; Adorama'branded Godox light). Super pleased with power and light quality of the SL150ii and ML60. Fans are super, super quiet. Can't imagine a better performing light for the prices I picked them up at before Christmas. The pocket lights are powerful, have great color rendering, and are handy for a variety of uses. Still getting up to speed on all things film and lighting without killing my budget. Overall, really happy with the return on investment I'm seeing with Godox. I appreciate all the content you guys crank out. Very helpful for us beginners

Awesome! Thank you. Making some changes as I learn lighting. I am going to add a hair light, clipping my hardware store clip light to the floor joist and choosing a lower power CFL bulb with a plastic shopping bag over it for diffusion. I have two challenges I face:
    1. I have a white board (reflection!!!!) that I use.
    2. I have a green-screen background.

Great video and content! The problem I'm having is that now that I'm 54 years old, the side lighting makes me look older. It kind of accentuates the changes in my face. So I can get the perfect light setup I want with great shadows but I'm not happy with how I look. So since I can't turn the clock back 20 years, I'm going to just go with the soft box front and center. I would love to watch a video that shows how to really help a person look more attractive using light and camera angles. I'm just experimenting on my own. Also I like the image from my iPhone 11 better than my DSLR except for the lack of bokeh.....anyway, more experimenting! Thanks for this wonderful video!
