The Venice Experience: How Venetians Built an Empire 🇮🇹

  • ■ ITALY, VENICE: The rags to ultra riches story of The Venetian Republic is unlike any other in European history. Refugees from the Roman Empire, fleeing the turmoil created by the power vacuum of Rome's waning ability to fend off endless barbarian incursions, turned a bunch of uninhabitable islands into the greatest and richest nation and finally empire in all of Europe.
How did the Venetians do it?
That is what I will explore as I take in what Venice, which is today just a city in Italy, has become in 2024. Venice is now a haven for tourists where one can truly take in what renaissance Italy was truly about.
The classic Venetian carnival still exists along with local artisans making traditional masks from scratch. Murano's glassmaking tradition also continues, possibly stronger than ever.
    La Serenissima lives on!
So tag along as I investigate the history of Venice from the year A.D. 500 all the way up to 2024 ⛵️

    ■ I have an infinite number of video ideas for more Italy vids like this one, but generally speaking, the interest is low. If you wish to see me make more of these history themed vids from Europe, 'Liking' the video, which only a fraction of the people watching bothers doing, is the numero uno action you can take to ensure that it gets a boost and reaches more people in the algorithm. As I said with the previous Italy videos from Florence and Rome, if this Venetian one hits 300K views in 90 days I will immediately go an make more. Forza Italia 🇮🇹

@@_JC_21 Viewership isn't dropping nor is the algorithm elusive. Views have always been lower when focus is on history and filming in Europe/USA vs. everywhere else. Views are actually higher than they have ever been for me right now on Italy and USA content. That said, it would be even higher than it currently is if more people pressed like on the videos and it would have to be substantially higher for me to reach the break even point on cost of producing them. PS! Appreciate your quadruple like 🍺

Everyone can film their travels around the world with a phone or a camera in their hands, but few put this huge amount of care and preparation in their videos. Keep doing what you enjoy and don't let people deter you from doing historical and cultural videos, it's what sets you apart from the other RUclipsrs!
Looking forward to your future offerings, whatever (and from wherever) they might be!

As I told you some years ago,
It’s an honour for us Italians having people like you around and discovering the history and culture of the country.
I’m sure you can feel it from the people around you when you are here.
That being said Harald, unfortunately, I guess you know the cultural downgrading we are facing as humanity.
Nowadays it’s more fascinating and interesting to watch dramas caught on videos (such as scammers, fights and so on) rather than “historical” vids.
No surprise you don’t see many views on those.
Maybe some clickbait title, a walk around the city talking to people and some historical insights might work better for views.
Anyways, you’re great as always, you’re video are great as always and the actual content of the vids is great as always.
Historical or not, hope to keep seeing you around in Italy often and why not in new cities/towns (especially in the south , warmer people , more history , better food 😉 but I’m biased) you haven’t been yet!
Keep up the good work man 💪🏻

Venice was built in a lagoon on the northeast coast of Italy, consisting of 118 small islands interconnected by canals and bridges. Its unique construction involved driving wooden piles into the marshy ground to create a solid foundation for buildings and structures. Over the centuries, Venetians developed sophisticated techniques for managing water levels and preserving their city from floods, such as the innovative use of pilings and platforms.
Constructing basements in Venice poses unique challenges due to its location in a lagoon. Builders typically utilize specialized techniques to create basements that are resistant to water infiltration. This often involves waterproofing materials such as concrete, reinforced with steel, and installing effective drainage systems to divert water away from the basement. Additionally, builders may employ innovative foundation designs to mitigate the risks associated with the city's unique geological conditions, including the use of pilings and other structural supports. Despite these challenges, modern engineering and construction methods allow for the creation of functional and durable basements in Venice.
Venice gets its drinking water primarily from the mainland through an aqueduct system. The water is treated and distributed to the city through pipes running under the Venetian lagoon. Additionally, Venice has numerous public fountains called "acqua alta" scattered throughout the city where residents and visitors can access clean drinking water. These fountains provide potable water sourced from the mainland and are maintained by the local authorities to ensure water quality and safety.
    Thank you Harald ❤

When they say that the dough was "levitating" for 72 hours, they mean that it took them 72h to prepare the dough, they let it "rise" for 3 days, which is common in italy, that's why Italian pizza is much more airy and lighter than American pizza for example, which is more heavy. Italian pizza is much tastier, much lighter and healthier for you.

Haraldo your research and knowledge of Venetian and European history is very impressive and the effort you made in creating this video is epic. Loved the Doga Palace and seeing so many of the magnificent frescos and paintings. The antiquity weapons and ship displays were so interesting. I went to an amazing mask shop there… so costly but still amazing.
My mum and dad went there in their 70s and took part in carnival. They dressed up etc
