Megadeth has always been so so mechanically tight and clinically clean with their playing style while keeping what they play incomparably emotional. AND the energy behind each number is just mind blowing. The solo in Ashes is just a seldom known masterpiece, as is the whole friggin Album ... just my opinion. I heard them rehearse this song before their show in Vancouver BC... It was their 9/12/01 show. It took 4 hours to drive the one mile to the Canadian border near Bellingham WA. We met 3/4 of the band in the alley after the show. Dave was talking to us about how they should have scrambled fighters to take out the later airliners.

Hey man. I just recently discovered your channel and I love your child like wonder at listening to the music you feature. I don’t mean child like in a bad way, it reminds me of me when I discovered a lot of the music 30 years ago. Anyway, I wanted to recommend a song off of Symphony of Distriction. That is probably my favorite Megadeth record, followed closely by Rust in Peace and Peace Sells..., and my favorite song is probably Captive Honor. You like story telling, and that one delivers IMO. It’s a dark story, but a good one. Anyway, keep up the good work :)
Marty's story behind the song: We played this live a lot and it was way fun. The ending harmony section was bumming me out in the studio because I thought the guitar tone of it wasn't up to the standard of the rest of the record. In mixing though, Max pulled out his magic and threw an interesting delay on the whole part which saved it, in my opinion.
Seeing them live was amazing opening song was hangar 18 and vapor shot like 12ft in the air then you just hear the intro i stood on my seat to try to see if i could see past the vapor but eventually it did dissipate

great vid man. I just discovered your channel so I may be asking for something you've already done, but while I'm thinking about it I'll suggest that you do "High Speed Dirt" from this same album. There's a surprise run by Marty late in that song that comes out of nowhere, and I'd love to see your reaction to if you haven't already heard it. And trust me, you'll know it when you do! As for this record, it's my second favorite of theirs behind Rust... I was skeptical about it going in, since they followed Metallica's path of stripped down, less complex arrangements and all that, but I think they did an even better job at that than Metallica did with the black album. And as a guitar player, I was very happy with the heavier guitar tones (that's my one complaint about Rust in Peace), and as a drummer I love all the weird, off-beat drumming that Nick does throughout this album, particularly on Ashes and Captive Honor. I always took the meaning of this one as pretty much a metal version of “We Won’t Get Fooled Again” about a revolution that overthrows a dictatorial government only to replace it with an even more dictatorial government. “Sweet taste of vindication, it turns to ashes in your mouth.”
T, that end of the world thing is in Megadeth’s DNA. The very name of the band came from a speech given by Senator Alan Cranston, where he was talking about nuclear war and the potential for Megadeath. If you know metric prefixes, you know mega means million. Dave saw the speech on a Greyhound bus heading back to LA after being fired by Metallica. He decided right then to change the spelling and use the word as a name for his new band. The group symbolism has always been cryptic. Their mascot, the skeleton Vic Rattlehead is on the album cover of their breakthrough album, Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying, standing in front of the UN building (That is being bombed) leaning over a real estate sign that says sold. He lived with his sister quite a bit, growing up and she was a devout Jehovah’s Witness. The mindset seems to have stuck with him.

Classic Megadeth! I always took the meaning of this one as pretty much a metal version of “We Won’t Get Fooled Again” about a revolution that overthrows a dictatorial government only to replace it with an even more dictatorial government. “Sweet taste of vindication, it turns to ashes in your mouth.”

Megadeth - My Last Words
T, that end of the world thing is in Megadeth’s DNA. The very name of the band came from a speech given by Senator Alan Cranston, where he was talking about nuclear war and the potential for Megadeath. If you know metric prefixes, you know mega means million. Dave saw the speech on a Greyhound bus heading back to LA after being fired by Metallica. He decided right then to change the spelling and use the word as a name for his new band. The group symbolism has always been cryptic. Their mascot, the skeleton Vic Rattlehead is on the album cover of their breakthrough album, Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying, standing in front of the UN building (That is being bombed) leaning over a real estate sign that says sold. He lived with his sister quite a bit, growing up and she was a devout Jehovah’s Witness. The mindset seems to have stuck with him.
