It's rare that I feel the need for more study notes. The journaling still has a lot, but if I do, the ESV Study Bible has a lot of articles.
I would still pick the journaling study bible as my daily. Unless I am doing a real deep dive, it has everything I need in the notes. Plus, it has large margins for my own journaling, of course.

Eh... Crossway, if you're listening, you need to thank the 2010s design team for a great decade and then fire them. The same covers, colors, font, overall styles have lasted far too long. HarperCollins has been far more creative lately with much older, less popular translations. I know it's a terrible reason, but I'm actually considering using a NKJV again just because I'm so tired of ugly Crossway covers and plain Lexicon font. Even Lockman picked up new looks. Enough lazy remixing the same stuff and do something that's actually new, Crossway.

Tim - you did not say enough about the paper? It does look really thin like 28 gsm, we know that the camera over enhances to make it look worse than it does in person. I will be really interested to know how it takes Micron pens and highlight before I can jump in. I will also add, I did not see this 2 tone tru tone on the Amazon link only the hardcover and the "strap and flap" but I can report that Crossway is running a Fathers day promo and you can get the 2 tone ( if you register for their free Crossway +) for 40% off or $38.99 with Free Shipping if any of you are were on the fence based on the retail price.
Also someone commented that they ordered it right after watching the video and commented it was not the same notes as the ESV Study Bible, but Tim said it was the same as the "ESV Student Study Bible" with some enhancements, like the character boxes etc which is a bit condensed version of the Standard Study Bible

So much time spent on leather soft, inside pages and maps, not enough dets. Surrounding context usage of bible. . I mean pencil is fine and they make colored pencils so you notes don’t have to be all chromium, but covering that detail, helps us.

Hi Tim thank you for the review of the ESV Journaling Study Bible. I was ready to order one until……. Major disappointment‼️when you said it was NOT a RED LETTER edition. Heck for me it is always critical to wake up a bit more when you turn the page of the Bible and you see Red Lettering where our Lord is quoted. All my Bibles have this and for me it is a “Must Have” feature of a Bible for me.
I was really pumped up for this Bible. Can you tell me if the ESV Study Bible is a Red Letter edition??? My current study book has come apart into like 11 sections so I need to get it rebounded. Do you know of a great store/business that will rebound my Bible? It was my Dad’s Bible and I was the one who led him to Jesus. So when he passed that was the number one item that I desired. He read it every day for 20+ years and I have read it every day for 10+ years. Any assistance I would greatly appreciate. Thanks Tim.

I just want to state for the record that I had the idea for this kind of Bible back in the mid-90's. Also, I conceived of something like the NET Bible around the same time. I have also had the concepts for several books that I later discovered were already written.....a few of them having been written before I was even born. I guess I say this knowing that no one will care, under the realization that I will never be famous, and yes I'm bitter about it (I guess not REALLY "bitter") and I do gain some catharsis making this comment that I know will benefit no one but myself.
I will say that none of my ideas have been TOTALLY realized. For example, I think that currently the BEST "note-taking" Bible on the market is the NKJV interleaved Bible. The main strengths it has are READABILITY (which the bible in this video lacks) including the clarity of the font (so-called "comfort print" and it is indeed comfortable) and the SIZE (it's a 9-point font). I can take-it-or-leave-it when it comes to red-lettering, but the NKJV interleaved Bible does the red-lettering very well. It also preserves the very useful NKJV footnotes.
The things it LACKS are pages for something like an index (such as what is featured in the Cambridge wide-margin bibles). I don't expect an interleaved bible to include a concordance or index, but an extra 50 blank pages in the rear of the bible would be appropriate.
Additionally, one thing NO journaling or interleaved Bible includes is a full blank page PRECEEDING each book of the Bible. If you would like to include your own intro material in a form factor like this, you always have to sacrifice space in chapter one of each book for that purpose.
Indeed, blank pages in appropriate place throughout the text would be very useful. If you think of an interleaved or journaling Bible as an opportunity to create your own "study Bible" then these kinds of extra blank pages are needed. I have not seen that happen yet.
The idea of including study notes AND blank space is very well implemented here. But I think you could do even more with an interleaved form factor. The ESVSB is the only SB I would be interested in seeing produced in this way.....with the exception of NET Bible notes. I think a lot could be done with the notes from the NET Bible.
In fact, a "textual criticism" study Bible has not yet truly been produced (the NET bible being the only exception to this technically speaking). There's a lot more out there than just the NET translator notes to work with when it comes to this idea. Imagine a notes apparatus that draws from a committee of those who work in textual criticism. In fact I think EVERY translation could benefit from an apparatus that gives some exposure to the text and translation choices that distinguish the translation from others. A lot could be said and done here.
An "NA 28" study Bible is the kind of thing that has needed to be produced for a very long time. I realize there are guides out there. I'm talking about something that the general reader can use.....somthing that pretty much teaches people how to use the apparatus of the NA28 or UBS5. A study bible that would truly enable the common reader to gain fundamental skill as a user of textual apparatus.
A majority text translation is something many people realize should be produced, so I can't claim much oritinality on that one. But yeah, it needs to be produced.
Anyway, I'm not really as self-promoting as I might sound when it comes to thinking of these things. I don't mean to sound like the Steve Jobs of study bibles haha. But I guess I do sound that way. I am grateful we have what we have. And I am not wise in my own eyes, I can assure you. I suppose if you live long enough, this happens to most of us, where we see others do the things we could only dream about. I lack the skill and knowledge to do any of the things that I have wished for over the years; I am grateful there are those who do have what it takes to make these things for us, and they do it.

    John 11:25-27
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
“Yes, Lord,” she told him, “I believe you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who comes into the world.”
Daily Bible reading is a blessing, even if you have a Gideon Bible, or even a paperback Bible.
Why buy so many Bibles? But , I should not judge anyone on their Bible purchases.
But there DOES come a time when we have to obey the Bible and support family, missions, the poor, etc.

The ESV Bible is considered one of if not the most accurate to date Bible when talking in terms of word for word translation.
”So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in the hand of David. Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.“
