Never leave a run 20 seconds, that will kill several pike over time. Just have the hooks placed correctly (one treble always about halfway along and halfway between lateral line and dorsal fin) in a moderate sized deadbait, then strike immediately a fish registers on the float or alarm. That way you should hook the pike in the mouth and miss hardly anything.
I appreciate this is 12 years late ......I'm just starting out Piking again since i was a kid (40 years ago) and have been watching all these videos for tackle, rigs and kit .. but the one thing I cannot find is where to fish. I'm looking for a day ticket type, still water, where i can have space to set up and experiment with ledgering and floating. A fishery that isn't too demanding with weed/trees/underwater obstacles etc where I can gain confidence setting up and maybe even catch a couple. I'm 15 Miles East of Birmingham (Atherstone) so anywhere around Nuneaton, Coventry, Hinkley, Tamworth or Leicester area would be good - can anyone help please? Thanks

Would u say dead bait is going to get me at least a pike a trip? I had been out between 3 to 5 hours a session. Im very frustrated as I am from the North East of Ireland and we have some of the best Pike fishing in the world yet I ain't getting any of the action :)
Would you be able to explain techniques on how to cast out a dead bait rig how and where to cast out and techniques on how to present the dead bait to pike before you would throw the rod in the holder. Thanks in advance. I'm an avid pike fishermen that’s only used plugs/lures/spoons, I wouldn’t mind catching a monster this fall, my biggest is only a 38incher. Cheers

It's funny that people STILL, to this day, call the pike a "fragile creature". I don't know how many times i've caught wild pike with gill rakes broken off on one side or with scars going cross the gut and back. The pike isn't a fragile little newborn baby, but i can understand the point in taking care of the fish with mats and good landing nets.
lol i was about 18 (im 30now) 1 barb was firmly inside my foot and another one was like 3mm in. lol i loved it, i think i will go stand on another one. ;) haha

I have known two guys who got giant musky lures treble hooks in the head from a boat mates back cast. One has nerve damage in his face. So, like maybe a helmet too mate!! hhaha
No, I'm not an idiot - I have four degrees, including a doctorate. I also know how to address people I disagree with without being unnecessarily ill-mannered. There's plenty of of research on the positive effects of predatory fish on stocks of other fish. You should try doing some reading.
you should try reading laws and regulations for other states beside your own and you would see im RIGHT...but im sure a fine decorated citizen such as yourself with as many degrees PLUS a doctorate would have done that already.

lolrobin we take care of the fish because wee want to keep good healthy fish where wee do our fishing tried perch never got a sniff of a pike so never used them again .....
ahhhh you dont need hospitals. just use a scalpel like me and then put a plaster on it. lol it was right in the soft part of the foot on the instep. ouch. lol

or tie a live mouse voles work very well,tie a mouse to a line alive dragging a hook and toss it and let it swim back,,,,,guaranteed or you could go to university and learn to fish pike.

You realy dont need to use huge treble hooks!
A size 4 or 6 will do just fine!
It just takes a good adjustable fightingdrag on your reel!
