  • Pike Fishing : Leger Tactics
    Join Des Taylor as he takes a look at one of his favourite pike fishing rigs - the leger, and catches a few pike along the way. In this video you will see how Des sets up his pike leger rig, the types of bait he uses and how to minimise tangles. If you are interested in predator fishing, especially for pike with deadbaits then this video is for you.
    In the film Des describes his rig in detail. From the twin-treble trace (snap tackle) that he uses for larger deadbaits, such as smelt and mackerel for pike, to the incorporation of an uptrace to help avoid bite-offs. Another thing that Des recommends is using heavy braided main lines and strong wire that allow the hooks to be straightened (and the rig retrieved) should it become snagged. Even the oversized run rings used on the Mini Leger Booms are designed to slide over the Uptrace, reducing the chance of the rig snagging and tethering.

    Des you are one of the best mate, always excellent advice you give us. As a young man i met you in Nigel Williams tackle shop, probably 30 years ago, advice you gave me then and now all these years later i'm still learning from you....thanks Des, Terry

    Talking of uptraces, after getting bite offs while float fishing years ago on a local Mere, I began using one everytime on both float and ledger. Not had a bite off since. Like the idea of using a boom, give that a go next week.

    Good man,an increasingly rare all rounder in a carp-centric angling media. Missed you by minutes at Willards in New Bradwell recently,would have been a pleasure to shake your hand and take the piss out of that accent :)

    Good video Des , keep up with the advise for pike welfare on the bank as a lot of new anglers are turning to predator fishing with limited experience .Good quality tackle and handling knowledge is so important to have when fishing for pike . We need to return them well so they can grow into that special fish we all hope to catch. Great to see you promoting piking again with Pike pro keep up the good work .

    I like the use of the up trace on that rig, not something I would normally do but I will from now on thanks Des. Just been on the Pike Pro website, its full of good kit and tons of baits and oils, well worth a look, think your underselling yourselves here fellas that site needs a bit more of a mention .All the best.

      @@PIKEPRO341 I have used the pike pro ledger stems for a while now with a buffer bead then QC swivle with trace and has been excellent and I have had many pike on them compare. To just putting foam on bait are a bait ball on hooks eye I think this is due to them sitting a wee bit higher in water than the stem I have just ordered the pike pro anti tangle booms their as Ur ryt in what u say I maybe had the very odd time had a tangle but wasent often plus looks better presentation wise so defo was a must by what size of QC swivles fit the boom best are does it not matter cheers

    Are you using larger booms because when I use the ledger stems it just goes straight over the boom and down to my bait

    Great video … I’m all about , set the hook get it in quick and release the fish without too much stress , but the jury is out on braid … been using it the past 3 or 4 years on my reels, I fish big lochs in the north of Scotland so you don’t really know what the bed of the place you are fishing … some places weedy some places really rocky and setting up you have to put in to the factor I may loose a weight and such but the last few trips I’ve had I’m really not impressed with the braid I find it a bit too fine and it’s does tend to tangle far too easy with the rest of the tackle … but that’s just me

    I'm just starting out Piking again since i was a kid (40 years ago) and have been watching all these videos for tackle, rigs and kit .. but the one thing I cannot find is where to fish. I'm looking for a day ticket type, still water, where i can have space to set up and experiment with ledgering and floating. A fishery that isn't too demanding with weed/trees/underwater obstacles etc where I can gain confidence setting up and maybe even catch a couple. I'm 15 Miles East of Birmingham (Atherstone) so anywhere around Nuneaton, Coventry, Hinkley, Tamworth or Leicester area would be good - can anyone help please? Thanks

    Could you list the full rig kit you have used please so I can buy it? I'm new to pike so having a rig shopping list really helps. I'm not good at making my own rigs.

    Hi would the drop offs be ok for eels? Thank you

    • @PIKEPRO341
      @PIKEPRO341  4 года назад

      Hi Matt, generally speaking, we would tend to use an indicator with next to no resistance for eels - something like the zandervan indicators are ideal for the job. As long as there wasn't too much undertow then a drop-off with very light tension will work OK, but you might find you get a few false clip-outs as you want as little resistance (and change in resistance) as possible. Best wishes, BB

    Went to a local Angling direct store last week to get some Pro pike deadbaits - no deadbaits in at all and they still haven't - the same at another local AD branch and not for the first time.WTF don't they order some more when half the stock is gone? Bloody useless.
