How to color grade your FPV flight? Cinematic on a cheap

Promised tutorial on FPV footage color grading. Usually, footage recorded with onboard camera does not look very cinematic (whatever it means) so let’s use Gyroflow and DaVinci Resolve to make it look, well, just better. We will stabilize the footage, improve gamma curve, add vignette, halation, motion blur and a little glow to make it look like recorded with a anamorphic lens with a distinctive flares.
The goal is to have more organic, analog look. And the best part is that both Gyroflow and DaVinci Resolve are free! Bear in mind, I’m using DaVinci Resolve Studio which costs $295 and was a money well spend!
In this video we will:
• Briefly talk about what is cinematic
• Stabilize the footage with Gyroflow
• Import files to DaVinci Resolve
• Generate Proxy files
• Adjust gamma curve and color temperature
• Add vignette
• Add halation effect
• Add motion blur
• Add glow simulating usage of anamorphic lens
• Compare effects

Motion blur and halation are available in Studio version only. But you can add motion blur using Fusion and you can simulate halation using other methods.

I just upgraded to studio about a month ago, and with using gooro labs and pretty much turning n.r. off in the gopro, preferring to do it in post, also having control over motion blur is nice, i also use LOGB @400,128. Waiting for the next verion of DR to get out of beta, i know i could install it now, but I'll wait a little bit... looks like some awesome new features!

only issue is that with free license you can only use 2 fx modules, then it asks for you to buy full version 🙂

@@ugpfpv361 the free davinci studio does not let you use motion blur or halation. These are specific to the paid studio version :-). There are workarounds if you search for free alternatives but a little more complex.

Are all those filters available in the free version of davinci resolve?

Vignette and glow are, but motion blur and halation are only in Studio.

If you use the right settings on your camera (if available) you really don't need the motion blur, halation is nice to have but not really needed to get good results, I went from free to studio about a month ago and the most important feature for me that is missing in free is noise reduction as I use GoPro labs and have the GoPro noise reduction pretty much turned off and add it in DR

btw its tooo goood ang simple way to explain what we need to do , i always chhose gopro color for no needed color grading but thats the limited
