  • In this video we take a closer look at Beat Juggling by going to it's root: using 2 copies of a record to "juggle" or extend a beat on a record. This technique was what started hip-hop music (actually!) and is an essential tool for any DJ. Watch Skratch Bastid as he works through patterns on the fly, and discusses getting 'the feel' of it.

    This is so philosophically sound. My younger brother is just starting out and i told him it is fine to make mistakes, especially while practicing.. this way he can learn from his mistakes and learn how to recover from them. Sometimes mistakes become new techniques.. I've made mistakes and was like wow.. that was dope. I need to reenact that and add that to my resume

  • @yomommastupid

    what also helps me is looking at the grooves you can kind of see where the break begins if halfway in a song....when it starts at the beginning you can kind of know you have less than 30 seconds before the singing begins so you can play at the beginning a bit more...regarding matching the beat it takes practice and for me I count the times the platter has turned so I can put snare back before the other finishes...The legend Grandmaster Flash explain it really well...

    Is it possible to beat juggle over top of a beat using 3 channels? If so would you need at least a 3 channel mixer or would you need 2, 2 channel mixers? In the case of a 2x2 mixer situation how would you set the equipment up?

    • @eightballpaul
      @eightballpaul 8 лет назад +1

      Probably in the sense that the needles were kind of worn and didn't have the same tracking as a fresh pair so it can cause the needle to skip out of the groove.

      @mixmasterprecise230 7 лет назад +1

      Justin Kanoya he was talking about adjusting the needles, and quite possibly the weight too

  • @PickpocketJones
    @PickpocketJones 11 месяцев назад

    I'd actually recommend starting by simply looping doubles of the same record. Take a bridge and make it a back and forth loop. It can be a 4 bar loop, a 1 bar loop, whatever but loop first. THEN shorten the loop to get some speed and precision and a good eye for tracking your marking. THEN start actually freestyling and learning how to create new beats from the one you are juggling.

  • @darrins3206
    @darrins3206 4 года назад

    I'm just finding out that you had a DJ /Skratch School! What you didn't explain in this video though was, it you miss the beginning of the beat (in the case where you might be 1 or 2 record revolutions either before or after the start of the beat you want to scratch), how can you find the beginning of the beat quickly if you are not using headphones (and you did not look at your laptop software). And isn't that a lot harder to do if the beat you want to scratch is in the middle of the record instead of at the very beginning?
