Shows you what a father does to his kids. All he wanted in the end was his dads approval and being proud of him

I love that, because I think it parallels earlier in the film, when Homer was first going down into the mine, and see's Sputnik flying overhead as he descends into his worst nightmare. Both scenarios have the person looking out at something they want so badly, for Homer a future in space, for John a relationship with his son, but in that moment they both feel like it is slipping away as they descend into the darkness. Luckily for them both, this wasn't the case.

Not every dad gets to hear that from his son.
Hold on a second...I got some dust from the coal mine in my eyes.

Am I the only one who bawls at this clip? I also cry at the ending scene. I relate so much to Homer and his son's relationship. My Dad was a blue-collar guy with an eighth-grade education, and I was a nerdy "bookworm." We clashed over everything when I was a teenager (mostly because I knew it all). Nevertheless, my Dad was my hero! I miss him every day. I wouldn't be a college professor and a father today without his example!

@@samuelpreciado1336...That's how I heard about it. 😂...Although we were watching it my sophmore year in high school in my math class and I 100% ignored it because I thought it would be a stupid movie. Then my computer class watched it my senior year though and I was watching it the whole time. I loved it.

Just wanted to add the guy who directed this movie also directed Jurassic Park 3... and The Rocketeer, Captain America: The First Avenger, Jumanji, Honey I shrunk the kids, ETC... I think what Joe Johnston does best is period films. Every film he's directed that takes place in the past is amazing! And I did enjoy Jurassic Park 3.

"How can a man you don't even know be your big hero, when I'M right here in front of you." That's what this boils down to. He wanted his boy look up to him.
