liberalism is built upon two ideas: maximum freedom and maximum equality. Both of these ideas are erroneous because human behavior has to be restricted for the greater good therefore negating maximum freedom. @@bluesky45299 You have said nothing to negate maximum freedom. The maximum amount would be the highest amount of freedom we can obtain with the least amount of unnecessary restrictions. The fact that some restrictions still apply does not erase the objective of maximum freedom. Maximum does not mean infinite. Also you have not negated Maximum equality. This does not depend on the social status or hierarchy of competence...both of which are separate and distinct functions. Maximum equality is about equal justice before the law. Many mistakenly misinterpret equality as equity and assume we are talking about guaranteeing the exact same outcome and opportunities for everyone. That is not the case. He's not a scholar. He tends not to have a high opinion of scholarly tropes in general. But I suppose people see him that way because he is learned on matters of religious symbolism.
Jonathan is right that the religious viewpoint will win in the end, because they're the only ones who can produce children who can themselves grow up to reliably also produce children.
Lol!! That's just silly. Most people from this generation that I have known who come from very religious homes are struggling like heck to be adults (just like their secular peers) and choosing to never have children (just like their secular peers).
@@booksquid856 then their backgrounds did a pour job of educating them in those values, unless by "choosing not to have children" you mean "joined the clergy" but I somehow doubt you meant that. No, the numbers back me up. Religious people are having way more kids. Kids OF religious people even more so than kids of non religious people.
@@jonavery4978 Nope. I do not mean they joined the clergy. The single biggest deciding factor in a person's worldview is their education, not their religious affiliation. And almost all kids go to public school. Doesn't matter who goes to church or not...church is simply an extension of public education values wrapped up in traditional religious folklore. There are specific subsets of religious people who have tighter communities and very often larger families... but I would then call this a product of cultural values within those communities and not their dogma at all. Also people from other countries that move here are more likely to have families, rather than those adults having grown in the US all their lives.
@@booksquid856 And how do the children of the children of immigrants fair? Because that's what I'm talking about. I would submit that they either find religion, either the same as their family or they cease to procreate.
@@jonavery4978 they don't cease to procreate... There are only a few conditions where societies stop having as many kids and they are always very rough times. So it would seem to me that we are heading towards that by that statistic alone and we can see it happening if we look around. Aside from that, you would be right that the religious viewpoint will win. It is another way of saying a group of people acknowledging something greater than themselves that can't be seen or physically measured (spirituality).
Christians took issue with Harry Potter because it used language like "spells", "witchcraft," ect. It re-defined terms that were otherwise occultic. That's what made it different from LOTR or Lewis. It was never about story themes. It was about kids associating otherwise occultic language with the heroes.

The scales are currently out of balance and it's ever since the proclomation of good vs evil. The opposite of good is NOT evil. The opposite of good is bad. In the recent turn of events in this post-pastoral world we now live in we've seem to have skipped a beat. The opposite of EVIL is divine. But with the current sensationalism of evil and since religion has been squeezed out of the public realm, the word itself and its meaning has been dropped, bumping up GOOD in its place, thus normalizing BAD as a new neutral benchmark.
Hey Mikhalia! Glad to see you’re doing well! I’m old enough to be your grandmother. But I decided to subscribe to your channel and check it out. I watch your father quite a bit and all of this is very interesting. I’m excited about your mother because I am a Catholic from birth, and that was a long time ago! That is a beautiful religion and it brings you close to Jesus and we’ve got his mother who is also involved! So hug your mother for me and I hope all of this rubs off on all of you, because you’re all amazing people, and you were loved by God! Oh, and by the way, I have a very much better medicine for hangovers! DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL! There is alcohol abuse in almost everyone’s family, and it was also in mine. It breaks peoples marriages up. It makes them sick and it harms them. It is poison. Please consider those words! I listen to Jonathan quite a bit. He’s quite wise so pay attention to him! You need to smile more as does your dad. You’re beautiful and he’s handsome… Smiling helps. Btw Jonathan does smile quite a bit. You can tell he’s got some joy in his heart! Plus he’s got a very nice smile.😄 God bless you Michaela. Take good care!
With all due respect, it's way too far-fetched to juxtapose Purim and Halloween. Purim commemorates saving the Jews from annihilation. It's a completely different story. The only overlap in celebrations is in dressing up. I don't think the critique of Halloween is about the dressing up aspect but about celebrating death, which sometimes may take on some satanic dimension. Jonathan is talking about Halloween as something that evolved from All Hallows' Day, using the past tense. This past tense is true for Americas, probably (?) In Poland, to this day we celebrate All Hallows' Day. (I'm pretty sure it's true for all the Catholic Chruch not just Poland.) We basically have two festive days - one is All Hollows' (or All Saints' Day as we'd call it) followed by All Souls' Day. The first one is the day we remember all the saints canonized by the Catholic Church, thinking of them as role models. The latter is the day we think of our diseased relatives and friends. We visit cemeteries and basically pray for the dead for 8 days around that period. It's a beautiful tradition. Also, Jonathan said Halloween is Catholic. It's not. It's pagan. Basically, All Hallows' Day transitioning into Halloween is more of degradation rather than evolution. Let me explain: Christianity would often build on pagan traditions (for example: the Christmas Tree; or the date of Christmas - Dec 25 was originally the date Romans celebrated the birth of the Sun God.) So, what Christianity would do is take pagan beliefs, and use their language to teach about God. As Christians, we'd say people coming to faith is evolution. By analogy, All Hallows' Day slipping into Halloween looks like a de-evolution rather than evolution. Anyways, thank you for this episode! I love the conversation as a whole! (Just disagreed with this bit and thought it might be important to clarify.) ☀👋
In the middle of so much ideology and propaganda, this is such a necessary and refreshing topic!!!! Nowadays we usually become numb by manipulation, so much so, that searching for "truth" became very inconvenient. Nobody likes to question his owns beliefs. I think that is a ability everyone should be encouraged to develop. We should be able to go against ourselves before going against others, because when this eventually happens, your position will naturally be so much grounded and stronger. Its hard but It has the sweetest rewards.
Why would you believe that the "Peterson family" is always interested in those 3 laudable things, when Jordan is clearly supporting one of the most evil regimes of this era, Israel? He, alas, has sold soul.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s. People had different opinions on everything then, but 90% of the time they discussed them with each other in a civilised way, without getting angry or annoyed. In fact, here in England they often still do when talking in person with each other, (as opposed to online).

@49:00 Well...since the Lord of this fallen world or age is Satan, himself an evil fallen angel, who transforms himself into an angel of light, wouldn't it follow logically that this world would be "complicated" and full of inversions? I'd say so. The One true God, Christ Jesus, has no darkness in him, and he is truthful and faithful, merciful and just. His great humility is what keeps his great power in check, there is no being MORE humble than God Almighty, the LORD Jesus Christ. And his kingdom is not of this world, that is why I despise Halloween, Harry Potter, LOTR, and all that rot as being the greatest darkness there is, false light.
I never finished Harry Potter, books or movies. It had nothing to do with religion. In middle school I was halfway into the second book and I forgot it in my reading class and lost the book and it discouraged me from reading the rest, same with the movies. I naturally thought Lord of the Rings was better. I don't know, the wand, magic and broom sticks were just goofy to me, I felt like Lord of the Rings was more realistic and more action packed.
I devoured the books first. They are much better than the films, so I'm glad I saw the films afterwards. So many rich lessons are in the Potter series.
Haha! Same thing happened to me in 3rd grade...but! When I got married my wife turned me on Harry Potter. In the last 6 years I've read/listened to all the Harry Potter books about 6 times each. They're fantastic, legitimately. I would say right next to Tolkein's world. And yes, just like you, I'm a biiiggg fan of Tolkein. And Jonathan Pageau opened my eyes up a lot to seeing the symbolic and mystical perspective that Tolkein does so incredibly well - that he is revealing reality to you through a fictional story. It's incredible. That's why you can say it's 'real' too! But give the Harry Potter books a try. They're incredible. Or, listen to them on Audible. The reader for those books is the best Audible reader I've ever heard.
One topic that always fascinated me is how my religious friends were forbidden to play the video game 'Doom' because it depicted too much Satanism but you're literally a space Marine killing demons and escaping hell and eventually saving the Earth from hell. I never understood why they didn't get that concept. Doom Eternal is the greatest modern video game in my opinion.
I felt the same way about Diablo II. I always thought it was weird that some conservative Christians didn't approve of it. You can literally play as a paladin fighting various forms of the devil, aided by archangels.
I see religion as a way of living not a narrow ,limiting dogma or doctrine It should be a journey not a destination. Enjoy and learn ,never settle for know it all dogma which limits you forever. It's a way of life not an endpoint.
well there comes a saturation point where dogma becomes metaphorical "dead scrolls" to a person's life when it's compartmentalized and not embodied 100 percent. a worldview is as useful in the beginning as to assist a person's growth into the religion's ultimate goal. Beyond that, it served its utility and the human being is more capable of finding its proper niche into a vast, mysterious reality.
Ecclesiastes 3:10. "he has made everything beautiful in its own time..He has put eternity in their heart.....". We crave eternity... Because that was God's original purpose for creating us.

The part about parents getting angry all the time stood out to me. I love my parents dearly. One thing is, my mother is quick to frustration/anger. So at some point, her getting angry, didn't bother me and make me think twice. My father was less prone to anger, so when he got angry, it was serious time. My parents didn't often cry in front of us kids. So when they did, we knew it was serious.
@52:00 No. Purim was NOT instituted by God, it is not part of his original feast day calendar. Aside from the fact this event, the planned genocide of the Judeans, happened AFTER God instituted his godly feasts, It was actually instituted by the religious Jews that hated Gentiles and didn't seek or appeal to God by name. That's right, the name of God isn't mentioned ONCE in the book of Esther. Why not? To show what happens when we don't acknowledge him. That's why that book belongs in Scripture, so we will learn from it, and not repeat it.
This has been such an interesting conversation thanks to the both of you!! So good to hear more info on halloween deriving from the feast of Purim (March). From my bible studies it has been a feast to celebrate Esther and her Uncle for saving the Jewish race from being murdered by the pharaoh if I recall correctly, and then as usual the world turning it to celebrating death which is opposite to what God allowed the Jews to celebrate. Growing up in South Africa, Halloween is a demonic celebration of the dead with witchcraft and worshipping gods and not life that God gives us
Not murdered by Pharoah (that was Moses in Egypt!) but murdered by Haman , the henchman of King Ahasuerus in Persia. Halloween did not derive from Purim! I think Jonathan’s point was that inversion festivals are not demonic or evil in their inception, but are widespread in many faiths and serve a real purpose in maintaining societal order and religious observance.

As far as I am aware the policy of having multiple wives in Islam is only valid during times of survival like when too many men die in war for example and also needs the approval of the first wife. This policy was created to protect women in times of scarcity. So if people use this policy as a permission slip for polyamory, they have not understood their own religion in that matter…
The part where jon is talking about the Devine higher Good! A way my parents taught us this was that yes there are good things in life that may bring us satisfaction, but the Ultimate Good with God and for God brings Fulfillment and not just on us but in us 😊
- every holiday of celebration has that certain spirit contained as with - such as the spirit of Christmas and which usually begins a month earlier than the holiday itself
No. Biblical Purim wasn’t for drinking and chaos. @Mikhaila It was the feast to remember God delivering the Jews for Haman’s degree and attempt to wipe out Jews. I’m not sure what goes on today in Jewish tradition but the Biblical Purim is different from what JP is saying. Esther 9:20-32.
You must be a Christian. Your Bible is totally different. Your tradition has redefined every text and term and holiday and ritual of the Hebrew Bible for an entirely foreign agenda. The Torah is ancient Israel's constitution and founding narratives. The holidays of Tanach serve a specific function within Jewish history, just like holidays in any nation's federal calendar. The puritanical beliefs of a foreign Christian religion have no bearing on the manner of celebrating Jewish holidays. It's like if some future communist religion claimed that Americans don't stuff themselves on thanksgiving because it is solely about gratitude. Or that we as Americans no longer offer sacrifices of fireworks on Independence day because MLK's death brought us to achieve Nirvana for all mankind. Both Passover and Purim are independence holidays in Jewish history. Getting a bit sloshed in memory of escaping near certain death doesn't seem so uncommon. Pretty sure plenty of beer happens on some of our American holidays. And even though I personally have no interest in getting drunk, my feelings about it can't change history or tradition for other people.
A lot of Christians are now celebrating Purim, as well as all of the 7 Feasts of God/G_d. Many are searching for the Hebrew roots of our faith as Jesus was Jewish. And the book of Acts talks about "the one new man," not two separate types or religions. So much more freedom for both than previously understood by Christians.
I always love these podcasts. However, the ads for your products remind me of the Twitch streamer who felt entitled to money from her fans. We know you love to joke about being a greedy capitalist but it's really not a classy look for your brand and paints the wrong impression of you.
Lol! I think the problem is that so many consider fun to be a sin! How do you know you had fun without sinning? Have you ever celebrated Christmas? Because some people consider that fun! And YET some Christians in history have considered Christmas celebrations a sin! So yah. "Sin" is a word religious folk throw around when they offshore their thinking to their current community bias, of whichever it may be.

I’ve been arguing with fellow Christian friends for years about magic and Harry Potter... thank you for articulating it so perfectly. I’m sending this to everyone!
I love Harry Potter. Many Christians and people of other faiths do too. It seems like the only Christians I have met or known who didn't like Harry Potter were the more charismatic/pentecostal types who exercise magic constantly in their own religious practices... speaking in "tongues" (parseltongue), rebuking or proclaiming things (casting spells), and anointing objects and people with oil (charms). In reality, magic is a part of everything we do as humans and without much contemplation generally. Most of us turn electric lights on and off without thinking for a second of how this serves a "higher purpose." Anything new we discover gives us new abilities that we quickly take for granted until we compare to those without those benefits (muggles).
@@booksquid856 There is another aspect of Harry Potter. It used real texts from real witchcraft. The most known example would be "Avada Kedavra" that comes from "Abreg ad Habra" that was a real Hebrew spell/curse used by satanic worshipers. But there is a lot more in that story that is more obscure and is taken directly from satanic stuff. You don`t have to be charismatic in order to not want your kid to shout those things in their play...
@@neyneynanamo2071 First of all ...that phrase is NOT Hebrew. Nor is it Aramaic. That, my friend, is a popular urban myth. The earliest record of anything similar was from a Roman of the second century writing about how to cure disease. This wasn't even thought of as "magic" but as medicine. Note that some of what we do now in medicine will be viewed as equally magic in the future, both for positive and negative reasons perhaps. I notice that people are quick to say that anything is satanic if it isn't slathered with their own cultural views and religious dogma. Funny enough, some of the very sacred views of many Christians today would have been considered "satanic" in generations past, and of course vice versa. This idea that the magic that inspired Harry Potter is Satanic is a meaningless and truly absurd accusation. Even if a Satanist used a similar phrase, it has no bearing on it being something magical or evil. What are we to do with all the other words that get used by satanists or other religious belief systems we don't belong to? "Magic" and the ability we have to influence each other psychologically is neutral. It isn't good or bad on its own. It is just part of life. And therefore it is only our intentions and how others interpret them that affect whether the "magic" is considered divine or evil. Every time we invent something new, there are those who view it as evil or a beacon of hope. In the end, most discoveries are neutral. So just like the wizards in Harry Potter, the new powers we have don't erase our challenge in learning how to treat each other properly. Another way of looking at magic is that it exists on the boundary between any area of human experience we feel we understand and that which is just beyond it. People have a very magical concept of god for just that reason. But the same is true for medicine or science. I went to a doctor recently and they prescribed MAGIC...a drug of which they have no idea how it actually affects certain symptoms of the body and which they can in no way predict the impact on what are still mysterious health concerns. Sometimes that type of magic is actually less compassionate or even as effective as the older folk magic done by a "witch" who actually cares about you and your family as part of an actual interdependent community. Great literature involves those elements of life that make us uncomfortable and so make us think. I cannot imagine a better series I wish for any young person to read carefully (as with deep discussion regarding history and political systems and interpersonal relationships) than the Harry Potter series.
@@booksquid856 Really? You cannot imagine better literature then Harry Potter?:))))))))))) how old are you? 14? Have you heard of guys like Dostoevski or Sienkiewicz?

I remember, when I was in first grade, around 6 or 7 years old, at a Christian (Lutheran) elementary school, we had some really fun assemblies. One of my all-time absolute favorites was of a traveling group of two men and a woman who would each play multiple characters by switching hats and wigs. They told the original Grimm version of Cinderella, and it was fantastic! Granted, I was told that I was a bit more mature than other kids at that age, however, everyone seemed to handle the storytelling just fine. It was great, they actually threw little prosthetic props for when they were “cutting off” the toes and the heel! It always stuck with me how fun it was, and the grotesque aspects were told in a hilarious way. It really solidified the be yourself and if the shoe fits, don’t try to shoehorn yourself into a place, God has a place for you, kind of perspective. And it’s true, they didn’t win at the end, and were a few toes or heels lighter. Don’t do something permanent to alter a temporary situation.
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21 "Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ Or ‘What shall we drink?’ Or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the nations seek after all these things. For your Heavenly Father knows that you have need of them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you." Matthew 6:31-33 THIS is how we are to live in this world that Satan seeks to destroy with sin and death. We need to yield ourselves to Jesus the Christ, i.e. God the Father manifested in the flesh as his own Son and then we can truly live in this world, and the next, in peace with God and man.❤
I'm absolutely convinced in all cases that the atheist was hurt in some way so it's too upsetting to believe in god. Each highly intelligent author represented or capitulated as such. But on their death bed every one of them will pray out of fear and that's unfortunate they were incapable of drawing on his strength in life. 🌎 🤷♂️
Or those people actually read the bible, fully, and realized it was mostly a fairytale. Imagine basing your entire life on a story that was told by people over 2,000 years ago.
Believe...in god? Do you believe in Zeus? Or Sophia? Or Ishtar? No matter which god you refer to, that concept is an avatar of your own personal assumptions and proclivities...guided by a larger cultural narrative. Belief is irrelevant. In the end, we each have a relationship with ourselves that can be improved with or without professing devotion to a religious icon.
@@olubunmiolumuyiwa They're not gods to YOU. You live in a different context and have a different belief system. And even despite that, your religion is heavily influenced by other ancient belief systems. Humans are so mobile and curious that we borrow from and build on each other's conceptualizations of life...using icons to represent narratives we share and value. You can study all of this and aim for better things in life without actually subscribing to a particular religion.
@@booksquid856 I personally don't believe you can have a justification for what "better" is and how "better" exists without a whollistic religious worldview. Otherwise, I think people just confuse their feelings and ego as what is "good" and it becomes subjective and meaningless. Or it becomes arbitrary and strict.
Saying the, "red pill bros" pushing towards polygamy are, "all going to become muslim and are pushing towards islam" followed by a chuckle made me reconsider Johnathan's crediability. Interesting that slight and offensive comment was made wirh no explanation. The rules and regulations around polygamy in islam are very strict. There are also sects of christianity that allow polygamy. Many tribal cultures also still pursue polygamy because in those conditions, cultures, and societities, it is more beneficial. I don't respect judgement and ignornace, especially in the form of a passive aggressive comment saying a group of very disturbed men will become part of a particular religion.

Rowling is a poor writer. She KNEW putting in time-loops with the hourglasses was a stupid idea, but chose to do it anyway - she thought children were too young to spot the idiocy. She did it for ONE book, and then never used it again, because she KNEW it was foolish.
Listening to this guy dance around the polygam Was absolutely stunning and hilarious. I will tell you there is more than enough substantial biblical evidence not only for polygamy but in defense of polygamy. There are laws within the Torah that protect the sanctity of a polygamist marriage and even when Christ was walking the Earth and the early church was being set up, it says if a man wants to be a deacon in a church, he needs to be the husband of one wife and that tells you that they were still operating polygamy even after the time of Christ because that was when, Like I said, they were establishing the early church that was in Paul's writing and so to watch a Christian get so uncomfortable and uneasy about the topic of polygamy is absolutely hilarious to me. Now that having been said, I do not believe that polygamist marriages are necessary for this day and age. They may be one day again with the way that they're trying to annihilate our men, that is a possibility but back in Bible times, Polygamous marriages were not only crucial but viable marriages. They were told to be fruitful and multiply. Why? well, because there is safety in numbers. If it's just you, your wife and two kids, there is nothing to stop a tribe from coming in and stealing your family from you or murdering you and your family. There's no protection there, but if you have an entire clan of people in your family then there was safety in those numbers. And !! If we did not have polygamy we would not even have a faith! We so flippantly refer to the god of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but how often do people actually realize that our 12 tribes of Israel came from four different women? We talk about the love story between Isaac and Rebecca and we completely discount that there were two handmade's and a sister named Leah involved in the production of the 12 tribes of Israel. And again, I am not saying that these marriages were not without contention that they were not riddled with all kinds of misfortune and but honestly a regular marriage is not exactly ideal either. So within the Torah we see many commandments that actually protect extra wives in their marriage. It's very very fascinating this topic of polygamy and the Bible, but you have to take off your societal your cultural and your current understanding's to actually see it for what it was in the Bible and when you're done tearing that subject apart, go back and look at slavery in the Bible. There's another one that makes the christians feathers ruffle because they cannot reconcile what is happening in the Bible with reality. Just my two cents. Take it for what it's worth
God is a visible God. Mankind is spiritually blind. Our world can have all the awnsers & solutions of all problems if we can meet The creater or the Prophets of past by opening our spiritual senses on individual basis. 21st century is not about belief system , all the religions has to be buried & Mankind must establish new democracy based on true scientific & spiritual observation centered on God.

Jonathan's ARC speech was amazing!

This past tense is true for Americas, probably (?)
In Poland, to this day we celebrate All Hallows' Day.

Great podcast! Loved Jonathan's Arc talk as well. ❤
Very interesting episode!

No. Biblical Purim wasn’t for drinking and chaos.
@Mikhaila
It was the feast to remember God delivering the Jews for Haman’s degree and attempt to wipe out Jews.

Well said!@@booksquid856
@@booksquid856 There is another aspect of Harry Potter. It used real texts from real witchcraft. The most known example would be "Avada Kedavra" that comes from "Abreg ad Habra" that was a real Hebrew spell/curse used by satanic worshipers. But there is a lot more in that story that is more obscure and is taken directly from satanic stuff. You don`t have to be charismatic in order to not want your kid to shout those things in their play...
@@neyneynanamo2071 First of all
...that phrase is NOT Hebrew.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21
"Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ Or ‘What shall we drink?’ Or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the nations seek after all these things. For your Heavenly Father knows that you have need of them all.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you." Matthew 6:31-33
THIS is how we are to live in this world that Satan seeks to destroy with sin and death. We need to yield ourselves to Jesus the Christ, i.e. God the Father manifested in the flesh as his own Son and then we can truly live in this world, and the next, in peace with God and man.❤

I don't respect judgement and ignornace, especially in the form of a passive aggressive comment saying a group of very disturbed men will become part of a particular religion.

Such a great interview. I really enjoy your podcasts and received a lot on learnings from Jonathan and your Dad during the Exodus sessions. Well done. Keep up the good fight.

You are lookinh so pretty micheala
Stop encouraging the procedures. I hope she realizes that it is starting to not be a good thing.
I'm curious what kind of passive/unconscious conditioning has been done in the last two decades that led to the American Society we have now.
Been happening for more than two decades. It's called public education.
I want to see the fairy tales books ,!
The funny thing with the protests during covid was, at least the first time I went, there were no leftists. The second time there was a distant counter-protest. It was surreal not having leftists in a protest space like that.
Thank you 🎉
Pageau is something like the Rasputin of the Peterson Family
Rasputin was a horrible man, a fornicator, a lier, who justified his utterly sinful behavior in the most appalling way possible....

Johnatak, woud you let your 12,13,14 year old read Herry Potter?
Just because it’s in the Bible doesn’t make it God approved
