    Hi, this was so beautiful. I loved hearing you talk about the old paddle steamer and that horse drawn train, I've never heard of that before. That lake area was so beautiful. Thanks for telling us about the old diesel historic train too. And when you were on the train I too liked the sound of the track, good choice to keep that in :) Really enjoyed this thanks . Have a good week ~ Anna ( and Alf !)

      Thank you for the lovely comment. We're going back to ride the train in winter because then they use the steam engine. It can't be used in the summer months, it's too much of a fire danger as sparks and embers could start a major bushfire. There's something wonderful about an old steam engine.

    Enjoyed your tour and history of this beautiful place. Loved your explaining the history and seeing the trains. Just a beautiful area and the pelicans near the end were fun to watch. Thanks so much for bringing us along!

      Thank you for your lovely comment, Goolwa is interesting, sadly there was only one paddlesteamer in the port. Every 2 years it holds the 'Wooden boat' festival and the port is filled with all the restored paddle steamers that can be found on the River Murray. They come down to Goolwa and it's a wonderful sight.

    This was a lovely video! Your narration was beautiful! I’ve never been though a lock and find the engineering fascinating! Thank you for taking us along! Great video ~Cara 😊

      It was my first time through a lock, I thought there would be more of a sensation of the water lowering the boat and then rising on the way back but it was so gradual that the boat just bobbed along in the water.

      The area is very popular with retirees, as Goolwa has a small town community feel. There are no hotels, the accomodation is mainly B&B so it's all very laid back.

      The train is nice, it is nicer in winter because they use an old steam engine. It's too dangerous in summer to use the steam engine because of the fire danger to the countryside. Thanks for watching

      @@theresabigwideworld2632 ..they do run often even in summer (the volunteers are a great bunch but sometimes need more helpers to run the coal fired steam engines!) Love the authenticity of your video btw.. thankyou so much!

    Correction- Goolwa is not the New Orleans of the South. Goolwa is the Hyannisport of the South. All Goolwa need is the Kennedy clan to complete the illusion.

    • @theresabigwideworld2632
      @theresabigwideworld2632  Месяц назад

      Does Hyannisport have paddle steamers? Goolwa was a major river port and ship yard where the paddle steamers were built, sadly now there's only one there now.

    • @JO5-y1k
      @JO5-y1k Месяц назад

      @@theresabigwideworld2632 Brisbane is more suited to the New Orleans moniker of Australia- it got the big brown river curling through the city, and I did checked- it got paddle steamers plying the brown water, and the steamy humidity completes the image. Goolwa for Hyannisport.
