I learned a half double crochet is yarn over pull up a loop and then go through all three. Not what your showing. Is this a different half double crochet??? I'm asking with all do respect please advise and thank you in advance! God Bless you 🙏🙏🙏
Hey! Sorry I took so long to respond! Life has a way of keeping you busy. You have to pull through one loop before pulling through all 3 loops. It you pull through all three initially it’s like you are making a large slip stitch. Check out some other RUclips crochet videos to see what I’m talking about. The different stitches can be super confusing.
Tamara I learned HDC the same way as you.....and I've watched a LOT of RUclips videos, and they all have HDC the what you and I learned it. If there is another video teaching it the way ChetStyles is doing it, I'd like to watch it..... ChetStyles, please direct me to the video you are referring to....I can't find any.
@@tiffanyboney could you please direct me to the RUclips video you are referring to....? Wouldn't a single crochet, putting hook into work pulling up a loop and then drawing a loop through both loops on hook, be like a big slip stitch as well, if that were the case.....? I tried some of your HDC stitches, and they looked just like a DC. There was no difference in the way the stitch ends up looking, which is kinda the point, isn't it....to have a different looking stitch...?¿? Just my understanding of things......not meant to offend.
@@purpledemigod73fraser38 I went searching and you are correct… it is an extended half double crochet. The first yo pull through one creates the extension lengthening the half double crochet.
This is a herringbone stitch or a full half double. It has multiple names in the US. It is a super great stitch for wearables at when stretched those extra stitches fill in the gaps that “normal” stitches make. I hope that makes sense.
You're a great teacher!! You make everything very clear. I'm a visual learner. It was a huge help for me. I love this sweater! I hope you post more tutorials. Thank you for all your knowledge.
This is beautiful! I have seen several versions of this item. I have made several versions. No one seems to show how the item looks from the back. The ones I have made are not too flattering from the back. What does yours look like from the back?
I love this!! How many yards would it take to make that in a medium size with a 3 type yarn. I have some yarn here that type and would love to make your design in it. My yarn has 1181 yards on it. And it’s an acrylic lightweight 3 yarn.
I used roughly 1140 yards of this dk (type 3) to make this size. For a medium I would recommend between 1500 and 2000 yards for a medium. If you decide to make it let me know how it turns out.
This has been the easiest and most in depth tutorial I’ve seen. Thank you. I’m fairly intermediate but need lots of instruction and detail for my brain to comprehend. Christmas is going to be very warm for my girls.
@@chrislimireland3600 Hi Chris, you’ll have to create a gauge to determine how many stitches you’ll have to do using the specific yarn and hook. The pattern on Etsy includes details on how to do the conversion and the gauge I used to create it.
Can you please tell me the measurements of the sizes since I got other yarn/hook.. How many cm is the starting chain in all the sizes? And how many cm in the sizes are the rows and the sleeves? Thank you.
@@lotjes9290 i totally get it. I created the pattern to assist beginners. I’m all about teaching so you can do it yourself. It includes steps you take to do conversion to use other yarn/hook.
So I really want to make this but to make sure the first step (375 ch) is the correct measurement for my body and my size how would I check this? How can I wrap the chain around my body to check if it’ll be the right length :) thanks! Hopefully I’ll hear back soon I wanna make it asap
It depends on how you want to wear it. I’d recommend doing 2 rows and then following the tutorial for ways to wear it. Wrap it around to see if it falls the way you like. Take into consider your bust and abdomen size. The sleeves are done last so just make sure that it wraps around your bodice comfortably. I hope this helps
@@rosij4536 I hope the pattern helps. The entire length of my sweater scarf is 82" and this is for size S/M. This length includes the sleeve. This length is appropriate for all the wearable styles in my other video.

@chetstyles can you do a foundation HDC instead of the starting chain?

Is this a UK half double? I have never seen it done this way. I never stop learning. Thank you for the tutorial.
I’m not sure if it is a UK half double crochet but it can also be called an extended half double crochet.
@Tiffanyboney Yes, it's an extended hair double crochet.
thanks for sharing
Hello. Love the tutorial! I’m almost done with main portion. Question: is the 47 chain of sleeve for all sizes??
Hey! 47 chains should be adequate for any size. The length of the sleeve also includes part of the scarf. Let me know how it turns out.
Question. What is the length measurements of the total chains according to size. I had to undo because it was extremely long
