The stores prolly don’t “go out of their way “ to find the ugliest clothes because they just pick the most low hanging fruit… whatever is cheap and most available fabric
Just my personal opinion here. I think plus size ladies can wear just about anything and look good doing so. The main caveat is that the garments need to fit properly. A good fit makes all the difference.
Re capris: What if, in spite of being heavy, you were blessed with trim ankles? Capris show them off! I am running out of attractive body parts at my age but I still have my ankles.
There is a difference between crop pants and capris. A crop pants should hit below the widest part of your calf. If it does that it is perfectly acceptable and flattering.

I never understand the capri hate- even in the “don’t” pics I like what it looks like! I guess I can see it ages you because you value comfort over style 😂. I usually go dresses or skirts because wide leg pants are usually way to long and I feel make me look like a house
FRUMPY!?!?! I'm a 60 yr old hippy-ish kinda gal - not EVERYONE wants to look like a school teacher or like they're meeting the gals at the COUNTRY CLUB for cucumber sandwiches .... I enjoy a loose T, distressed jeans, lg hoop earrings and some flip flops .... SUPER CUTE I enjoy bright different colors ( I just watched your video about 'QUIET LUXURY) avoiding things that go out of style, hahahaha if I wear it and I enjoy it it is 'IN STYLE'; I don't care what everybody else is doing and I'm not so pretentious to worry about a COLOR being 'last year' that I can't wear it this year, how on Earth can a color go out of style!?!? I like to BREATHE..... RELAX..... ENJOY MOST people don't dress like that for COURT, CHURCH, THE OFFICE any longer, things have relaxed a lot!
At 50 I never really see my style in this kind of video either. I wear skinny jeans with a long fitted A-line tshirt or tunic (sometimes even to the knee) with army boots, Dr Martens and Palladium (French brand of textile high tops and sneakers). I never follow what is "in", never have. I'll wear any color I like, don't care when it was in fashion. I mostly wear black but like to add bright colored tops or accesories to it, like my neon pink Dr Martens with yellow leppard spots 😜 No one has called me old or frumpy, they think I'm 38 years old max. Videos for plus size clothing are almost all very classic clothing or cropped tops and slinky mini dresses. I would love to see someone plus size with a more individual style.
Totally agree. I have serious fears of being frumpy as I age but find “age appropriate” clothing has been TOO OLD for my mindset since my 40s. I don’t try to dress like a teen or compete with 25 yr olds, but my semi-sporty, colorful look always makes people guess my age at 15-20 years younger than I am. I won’t be conforming any time soon!
I 100% disagree on the capris. It's the length you have them and the shoes you wear. I'm 63 and most people cannot believe when I say this and will say I look like I'm in my 40s. I wear capri and tees all the time. I love them and feel I look good in them and no one can tell me different. I'm in western NC and capris are a staple. That's why they keep making them. It's only my opinion and I always tell women and men wear what you feel comfortable in and the confidence will shine through.
I just ordered 5 pair of capris. I order these for casual days. I like the shirts too because it disguises a multitude of tummy issues. I never wear dresses. I never wear heels because of balance issues. BUT I really like this channel. I too live in the foothills of NC
I have capris that hit a little below the fullest part of the calf. Mid-calf is indeed a no-no. Slim capris _that_ length, with a princess cut tunic top- I'm rocking it. 😉😄👍
I have lived in jeans and pants most of my life, but recently have discovered the comfort and beauty of dresses. I have even sewn some dresses tailored to my body this summer. I get so many compliments and feel so pretty!
I’m 70 and will NEVER wear high heels again, kitten or otherwise. The challenge for the show industry is to produce stylish, feminine shoes that are comfortable. Heels are bad for your feet and your back….i have enough physical challenges without sore feet!
I still have skinny ankles as well , i still wear capris sometimes I'm not burning up, it hotter during summers than it's ever been. Let people wear what they want to just don't be a slave to style.❤
I love what you said about the trends being the seasoning of the outfit. Many other you tubers are so in to the "classic" styles, that they all look like they are wearing a uniform, and no one has a separate personality any more. I've stopped watching some because it is so depressing. There are so many beautiful colors in this world! Why limit yourself to tan, white, black and blue jeans?
Great video. Especially the part about prints. I donated just about all my capri pants. I may have a black pair for around the house on a rainy day. Even though I'm retired now, i wear dresses all summer. They are cooler and easier.
I'm less than 5'4", and many brands do not offer Petite sizes. When they do, there are usually very few choices in size and style. Arm and leg lengths are often too long.
I am 5'2" and heavy. Capris don't do a thing for me. Most capris are pretty close to my inseam meaurement and make me (I think) shorter and wider than I am. I think capris look best on tall thin people, of which I am not one. I am retired and don't do dresses, dress clothes of any kind and definitely not heels. I also don't do shorts when I go out - hate to scare people! LOL!. I love your ideas and feel like I can take some of your ideas when I do need to look nicer than my "home outfit" of shorts and a t-shirt.
With the right hair style and the way you can style different pieces, you can wear a lot of clothes. The hair style plays a major part of how different clothes are going to look.❤❤❤❤❤
I have the pattered sheath dress from Dressbarn.😅 I got it years ago before the store closest to me close shop. Because I'm on the curvier side, it hugs my curves just right and it's so comfortable. When its on a hanger, it's shapeless but when I put it on, it's soo beautiful. I always, always get compliments when I wear it. It's my go-to summer dress when I want to look put together but I feel lazy. 😅 I say don't judge a dress, wear it first because it might look shapeless on a hanger but on you, it would be something else.
A midi skirt has more swing and movement whereas a capris pant does not. Capris usually taper and because they’re split, the visual cut at the middle of the calf becomes unflattering. Also, you can mitigate the length of a midi skirt with heels or a minimal shoe; it’ll enhance the femininity of it. It’s much harder to mitigate with capris. Hope that helps clarify. 😉
I get so mad for a lot of my lady friends at the limited shoes for sizes 10+ US. I wish so much there was a wider stylish and versatile variety that is comfortable to wear. Some really good suggestions in here for when we are limited. Thank you :)

I have one black capri which I like and I will be keeping. I don’t wear a lot of prints, and I like modern looking shoes and bags. I love color and chunky jewelry.. no plastic jewelry for me.😊
I have never thought of capris as flattering on any person, whether large or small. A casual summer dress is just as comfortable as capris and much more flattering.
I’m not plus size but I found your suggestions very helpful. I’ve never liked capris, didn’t think they looked good on the majority of women, same goes for leggings coupled with short tops. Thank you for your style assessments.
Hi Oralia You hit the nail on the head with capris. All the others I like. Most in the shops are big prints etc. I just love shirt dresses and diagonal stripes as it’s more flattering. I have donated most of my smock type dresses to the charity shop as some people like these All the best xx
I recently discovered your channel & am enjoying the content. I believe that much of your advice is very helpful for plus-sized women. I especially like the more classic styles that you model or show in pictures. There is one style that you often model, however, that I feel is not right, & that is the wide-leg pant. To me it adds pounds & boxes out the figure, as opposed to a straighter, tapered leg. I also would encourage almost any woman to avoid ruffles. Otherwise, I would love to see you modeling more tapered-leg slacks. Thank you,
As far as I’m concerned, there are way too many prints in clothing for older women and plus size clothing. I think some people carry them off well but I just look better in solids.
I want to start wearing dresses again but don’t really know what to wear, I guess I’ve just got to try on some stuff. I lost almost 120 pounds so still wear a xl but don’t know what looks good.
The Capri pants in the don't picture look for more flattering overall than the very matronly looking wide legged trousers, that just seem to swallow you whole, although I personally wouldnt wear either. I personally am kinda barrel shaped, with a narrowish waist, and "slim" lower legs, so,for years have been wearing dresses that are cinched in at the waist, flare out from the waist down, and end just below the knee, which is definitely the most flattering style for my body.
Capri is my warm weather go-to pant length. I won’t be caught in public with shorts on and ankle length is just too much coverage. I try to look at my combination top and bottom and feel it’s balanced, but I guess I’m fooling myself. Your examples of the printed T and colored Capri is basically my whole summer closet. I’ll give another look, because I am aware that my outfit says senior female.
It goes against all the fashion houses to produce something for people that are not model shaped…. They don’t want clothes they produce to sit on someone that maybe overweight, or (gravity) shaped. So no one makes decent clothes for ‘normal’ women’ say with wider hips or bigger busts.
On the topic of shoes... They cost a little more but Naot offers some nice styles for those of us who need to wear orthopedic type shoes. Definitely worth the investment. I was a model in my younger days and lived in heels and had quite an extensive shoe obsession. Now I have both Rheumatoid arthritis and Osteoarthritis in my knees in addition to other health issues (including shattering all the bones in my right foot). Walking itself has become difficult so I have given away all my wonderful shows and stick with a handful of very comfy and supportive shows. I am still vain enough that I still want the shoes I wear to be pretty. I finally had to toss my Naot's after wearing them almost every single day for 5 years (being on my feet 6-8 hrs a day). This is why I say they are pricey but worth it.
Have you tried Orthofeet sandals or shoes. They saved my sister's life. She was suffering from pain in her feet and nerve pain. She wears the men's sandals in the 4E width and she's benefited from them extensively. She has swelling in her feet due to venous disease. They're on sale from time to time. They're expensive but worth it. They have women's sizes too.
A lot of prints for plus women are too big for me. I like small prints or ditsy prints. I don't wear my shirts tucked in and I don't own many belts. Kitten heels are me never wearable for me. It's not that they’re not “comfortable,” they are painful.
Thank you for being for respectfully honest! Drives me crazy when the truth is sacrificed for PC. It doesn't help anyone and I need all the help I can get! 😊❤ She is making suggestions. Up to everyone what they wear.
I have been physically dealing with numerous health issues. The doctors recently figured out what was going no & is been a blessing. But, I have now lost 50 pounds but have about 70 to go. Finding things that fit & are in my limited budget is hard but you have given me so much help in figuring out how to dress. I am only 4ft 10 inches tall. Imagine how hard it is to find something that fits. I buy a pant & have to cut off 8 inches or so off which means the “knee” area comes to my ankle. SO you have really helped me to see what I need to do. Thank you, Thank you.
I came across Suzanne Betro's line of clothing that she sells on Zulily from a commercial I saw on tv about 6 -7 yrs ago. I bought almost every top on there. The tops are very pretty, very feminine, very sexy and very affordable. I can't thank Suzanne enough.
In my opinion people who label certain clothing as frumpy are part of the problem when it comes to how plus sized people are viewed. People should wear what they like and what they feel confident in regardless of others opinions. You have one life to live, live it for yourself! Asking for and giving advice are fine, it’s the labeling as “frumpy” that can come across as negative towards people who like or can only afford the type of clothing you are labeling.
I very much liked your tips. I love how you wear belts and wish I could once again incorporate them into my wardrobe. I’m 5’8” rectangle figure with a belly. I just feel like the belt will accentuate my belly and/or get lost in my side roll. Suggestions?
I agree 100% with you. The big sizes dresses, blouses shirts even shoes are horrible. Is saying that the 90 years old people designed that clothing colors are horrible styles, fabrics are horrible, everything
For comparison I’d like to see you in the styles you’re saying are not flattering. I can’t understand when you say it makes you look old without illustration. I’m a big girl (54 years young) and love my big bold printed moo-moo dresses. As my statement style. I’m relaxed and comfy and totally agree about jewelry sets. Oh gosh. I struggle layering necklaces they tangle. Help. Love your advice!
Point 8:248:248:24 With the right hair style and the way you can style different pieces, you can wear a lot of clothes. The hair style plays a major part of how different clothes are going to look.❤❤❤❤❤
Lol!! I was literally wearing knit capri pants and an oversized tee shirt at the exact moment you started talking about it at 1:46! So funny. I was called out lol But it's okay, that's what I like to wear when I'm home alone. It's hot here and having air on my ankles at home feels cooler. I'm so glad you included photos of yourself in various outfits to demonstrate your points. That was very helpful.
Oh my! I will have to watch this video again!! So much to learn. What hit me first was the sheath dresses no no. I have several and may try a belt with them? You are impeccable as usual and I love this content… and you!
I’m a plus size 18w/1x and although I agree that a lot of the clothes are frumpy florals, I also see clothes in stores like Torrid that are skimpy, revealing and I would never be caught dead in. I’m aware enough about my weight to know that I shouldn’t be wearing items that are completely unflattering in that regard. I’m all for body positivity, but c’mon. Nobody needs to see my 210lbs of T&A hanging out.
Sure. The difference is that capris are split, so they have a completely different visual effect than a skirt does. A skirt has movement that capris don't. Also, in most cases I mitigate the length of the skirt with my shoes. I either wear a nude shoe, usually a heel; if it's a closed shoe it's pointy toed. Otherwise, I wear a sandal, which exposes my foot. Either of these tactics will elongate the leg. Hope that helps!
I'm so glad that I have commonsense and don't feel the need to be a slave to fashion. I wear what is practical and what I like. If someone doesn't like that, it's their problem, it shows what worthless persons they are.
This is good info, Oralia how did you know I wear Capri (straight leg) and a tee just about e veryday. I’m sad, no I’m super sad that I’m so lazy and comfort prone. Btw you look beautiful in that dress with soft make up😊
I love wearing capris and t-shirts, around the house, but do wear dresses out, and you gave me ideas about a belt, I am old, but still don’t want to look frumpy
For women in warmer climate, I find that FitFlops are a comfortable, literally, "elevated" sandal. I haven't worn heels in a long time, but two weeks ago found wedge sandals by Papillio (Birkenstock) and they are super comfortable. I was shocked that my arthritic feet could manage the wedge heel.
I wear one brand of flip flops , Okabashi. I only buy black . I could run in those flip flops . I wear them out to mow ,hose them down and go to the store. They have a two year warranty and you get 15 precent off a new pair if you send in a old pair. At $25 they are a steal
Exactly! When I was a little girl, I loved how my grandma dressed. She was kind of an 'Aunt Bea' (Andy Griffith Show) type. Yes, she was plump, but she wore nice day dresses, fixed her hair, and always wore a clean apron. The best part was, she was a sweet caring person.
Oh boy! Don’t look at me today. I am heading to my closet to change before I go out. Thank goodness no one has seen me yet. LOL Kiss the kitties for me. 🐾🐾🐾 😎❤️💄Kathy
I'm shaped like an apple. My legs are the skinniest part of my body. I find if I wear a long skirt, or wide leg pants it makes me look bigger. What should I do?
The wide leg pants will do a great job of camouflaging the tummy, especially the side view. You’re just not accustomed to seeing yourself in them. The long skirts? I’d take advantage of having nice legs and stick to something just above the knee, size up to accommodate the tummy. 😉
I disagree on Capri as it is a cover for religious garments and an aid against overheating. In my area, youth and adults wear capris pants for over 6 months of the year.
New subbie here, and YOU are my new fashion favorite ❤❤❤! Where have you been all my life?! I have been a size 22W, but now am a 10-12 misses and your fashion advice is applicable to me at both ends of the spectrum ❤❤❤
I'm in my 70s , I like jeans and Tshirts for doctor appt. shopping etc. at home it's sweat pants and t shirts . I have a few long dress but personally I wouldn't wear any of the dresses you showed .
I've had a double mastectomy without implants. I don't wear prosthetics because they're very uncomfortable. I'm in a 3X and because I'm flat, I'm built like Homer Simpson 😢. I wear a lot of black leggings and high neck (to cover scars) flowy tops. I just kind of wear what fits and covers me.
In central Texas, it's too hot not to wear shorts. Old Navy has a new version of their linen pull-on shorts every summer and I've been collecting them all! 😊
I REEEEAALLLLY struggle with the last point about incorporating trends. I honestly hate trends. I want to look sophisticated and put together. I like timeless, not trendy, and I've struggled with looking frumpy because a lot of clothing considered sophisticated just highlights my size even more. Im a 12 in bottoms and 14 in tops, but wide leg pants looks so terrible on me no matter the waist height. It just adds more volume to me and makes me look manly, especially since my arms are huge. I know I'm all over the place. I just have a ton of complaints about fashion. 😅 Anyway, I loved your clear advice and I think I picked up some important tips I can take into consideration. ❤
My daughter has been trying to get me into wide leg pants. You wear them well but for me, they seem to add volume. Again, I’m 5’8”, 245 lbs and 62 years old, any suggestions?
Capris are comfy at home but I like dresses in summer. They are cooler to wear. Winter it's leggings to keep me warn. I have nice outside jogging pants and great tops that fit good and for home I go up a size to wear because I want to be really cozy comfy. Even cartoons are nice to wear around the house to relax in. You can mix patterns IF you know how to do it. Not over large ones and can't mix some plaids. I just go for comfort at 75. There are lots of nice ortho shoes and boots out there. You pay for them but they will last you forever. I'm A Dansko, Vionic lady. Biden's around the house and Girls in sandals for summer
Preach!
Thanks! 😃💕

Capris are great if you are tall and slender.
I always feel that the stores go out of their way to find the ugliest fabric and then use it to produce plus size clothing.
💯
And then charge us $5 more per item

You wear what fits your body type. That check dress she wore made her look frumpy. A belt is not for evruone

As far as I’m concerned, there are way too many prints in clothing for older women and plus size clothing. I think some people carry them off well but I just look better in solids.
I’m headed in that direction myself. 😉
I'd like more styles with slimming lines.
I so agree!
I am so glad I discovered your channel. thankyou for the useful insights which I could adapt for my self
Thanks!
Thanks so much.
That white dress at the beginning of vid looks gorgeous on you, ty for all the tipsxx
Also I like the fact that it’s plus size every one else only talk about everything else but the plus sizes thank you again n keep it coming God bless
Thank you so much for sharing! 💕
@@susannaCdonovan23 I have not. Thank you for the suggestion. I will check them out.
I love Naots and Vionics.
Pointy toe are my favorites even if they go out of style..i will still be wearing them.
I'm so glad I can be of help. 🙂 And congratulations on the weight loss!
And she shows my favorite purse. I'm keeping it though, even if it does age me. Mine is a better color though.
I came across Suzanne Betro's line of clothing that she sells on Zulily from a commercial I saw on tv about 6 -7 yrs ago. I bought almost every top on there. The tops are very pretty, very feminine, very sexy and very affordable. I can't thank Suzanne enough.
Agreed on the capris and stripes. Love your content!
Glad you like them!
So if we need people to tell us we should wear whatever pleases us, what is wrong with asking for advice from others?
I very much liked your tips. I love how you wear belts and wish I could once again incorporate them into my wardrobe. I’m 5’8” rectangle figure with a belly. I just feel like the belt will accentuate my belly and/or get lost in my side roll. Suggestions?
I can never find belts that fit that tummy anyway 😒, I've given up on belts.
Interesting. Don’t agree with all, but appreciate your information.
I also read that the dainty layered necklaces are no longer so in and that statement necklaces are the thing.
'Station' necklaces present well and look lengthing.
love this video Oralia/you are so right/so wonderful to see your clothes XXX
Thank you!
Point 8:24 8:24 8:24 With the right hair style and the way you can style different pieces, you can wear a lot of clothes. The hair style plays a major part of how different clothes are going to look.❤❤❤❤❤
As always Ms. O you’re right on point ❤❤
Thanks!
Thank you for this information.
Glad it was helpful!
I buy capris because they are cropped/ankle length in my short self.
😆 If you're comfy at home, that's what matters.
Great tips! ❤
So glad you enjoyed it! 💕
❤❤❤ Right on. Thank you!
😉💕
I love my baggy jeans with oversized shirt.😊😊😊
Such good really practical advice. Thank you !
So glad you enjoyed it. 😃💕
Oh my! I will have to watch this video again!! So much to learn. What hit me first was the sheath dresses no no. I have several and may try a belt with them? You are impeccable as usual and I love this content… and you!
A belt will help. I’d try one and see how it makes you feel. 😉💕
I have fallen in love with fashion again ( was a fashionista when young).
Yay!
Love your contents. I totally agree with all of your statements. ❤
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I hear you on the capris, but I've seen you wear dresses that fall to the exact same spot and you were fine with that so what's the difference?
@@Oralia_Martinez that makes perfect sense! Thank you for taking the time to explain ♥️
You are right! I need to ditch the capris. Wider leg definitely look best on me or a dress which is easy breezy.
You always have the best advice! Love your channel ♥️
Aww! Thank you, than made my day! 🙈💕
Yikes pointy toes hurt and I've always hated the look!
I'm so glad that I have commonsense and don't feel the need to be a slave to fashion. I wear what is practical and what I like. If someone doesn't like that, it's their problem, it shows what worthless persons they are.
I’m not a plus size but I’m not a size 10 either. This was extremely helpful to me. Thank you!
Size 10 and up is plus size.
This is good info, Oralia how did you know I wear Capri (straight leg) and a tee just about e veryday. I’m sad, no I’m super sad that I’m so lazy and comfort prone. Btw you look beautiful in that dress with soft make up😊
Thanks, Bea. Just switch out trousers and you’re all set. 😉💕
Thank you so much for sharing! 😃💕
I wear one brand of flip flops , Okabashi. I only buy black . I could run in those flip flops . I wear them out to mow ,hose them down and go to the store. They have a two year warranty and you get 15 precent off a new pair if you send in a old pair. At $25 they are a steal
Not sure why u n other folks say old lady like it's a bad thing. Just because u fear aging doesnt mean everyone does.
I love your wardrobe and wonder if there’s a store one might be able to find similar outfits on a budget?
Boutiques Boutiques Boutiques
All the way! In person or online. Very nice pieces not found in regular stores.
Oh boy! Don’t look at me today. I am heading to my closet to change before I go out. Thank goodness no one has seen me yet. LOL
Kiss the kitties for me. 🐾🐾🐾
😎❤️💄Kathy
Haha! Have a great day Kathy! 💕
I like this channel
So glad you’re enjoying it! 💕
Great video…great advice. We need more of these, please
Excellent advice!
“Think Hobbit” with the image is good.
New subbie here, and YOU are my new fashion favorite ❤❤❤! Where have you been all my life?! I have been a size 22W, but now am a 10-12 misses and your fashion advice is applicable to me at both ends of the spectrum ❤❤❤
Welcome!! And congratulations, that's a great accomplishment! 😃
I'm in my 70s , I like jeans and Tshirts for doctor appt. shopping etc. at home it's sweat pants and t shirts . I have a few long dress but personally I wouldn't wear any of the dresses you showed .
Great video O! ❤
So glad you enjoyed it!
@@cathyme61 Maybe an off the shoulder blouse with a ruffle, or wide collar, would be flattering on you?
❤❤❤
In central Texas, it's too hot not to wear shorts. Old Navy has a new version of their linen pull-on shorts every summer and I've been collecting them all! 😊
Totally - I'm from SA and lived in Austin for several years and shorts were the name of the game there. We didn't do linen back then, not sure why...
@@Oralia_Martinez Linen always vexed my mom because linen garments never stayed wrinkle free.:-)
Anyway, I loved your clear advice and I think I picked up some important tips I can take into consideration. ❤
as a girl in her new 30 and apple shape I really want those advice❤
My daughter has been trying to get me into wide leg pants. You wear them well but for me, they seem to add volume. Again, I’m 5’8”, 245 lbs and 62 years old, any suggestions?
Nothing frumpy about those chunky heels and a grandma bag. Add a hat and people'll think Queen Elizabeth is back from the dead!
Love your channel. I wear a Extra wide shoe. It’s so hard to find some that fits me. The selection is limited
Very true. Have you looked at Vivaia? They have wide foot friendly selections that are actually very pretty.
