I'm European too and I have recycled an old guitar belt of my husband and turned it into an elegant belt without sewing or anything. I put it on my black midi dress and everyone keeps on complementing me. My point is that there's no need to buy fancy expensive belts. As long as they are real leather you're good to go
Unfortunately, French style, that is in truth is Parisiene style as you say, can only be pulled off if you are slim, with slim legs and not particularly curvy. (hips, bossoms)
As a fat French girl, I disagree. Most French style is basically minimalist "business casual" , in neutral colours. All bodies can look amazing in it, one just has to choose silhouettes that suit their own curves.
Yes so agree. We used to live in Haute Province and the dress style was very different than Paris as well as peoples attitudes and friendliness. You will have to guess who was more friendly! 🤣
Ok you had me when you said thrift. I have been watching videos about styling. I thrift all my clothes. You would not believe it but this 64 year old woman gets so many compliments. I love your style and videos.
Hi 👋🏼 I’m an Aussie married for 35 years to a Frenchman… your gorgeous neutral linen blouse with the black bra underneath would look really chic with black linen shorts the brown or black belt & a cute black waistcoat, which would highlight the gorgeous sleeve detail & a black sandal… in my experience the black bra appearing under the light shirt needs to look deliberate not a this is the only bra I could find moment… putting black bottoms gives the black bra a reason for being there! Love your looks btw! 🙋🏻♀️💃🏻🐨🦘🦘🦘🐨🫶🏽
Ahhh yes, I can see it in my mind's eye. Like a little summer "suit" waistcoat instead of jacket. That blouse is to die for fabulous. The cutwork is very unusual and beautiful.
Oh my word...I just love your videos. I'm not French. I'm not American. I'm South African and your natural way of presenting is just so refreshing. Love it! ❤
I bought some men's vintage silk ties in different patterns and wear them as a belt with dresses, tunics or with pants. Got the idea from debonair Fred Astaire.
I really appreciate the simpleness of this video. There is no weird background music which is annoying. No weird lup popping and smacking. I love this video! Please make more! I love these comparisons. It really helps seeing the difference a belt can make along with some accessories.
Omg you said my thoughts out loud! I cannot stand it when people do the lips smacking thing or if they are drinking something while they are on camera and you can hear it! I really wanted to watch this one video because of the information that was going to be in it but I bailed immediately once the guy started loudly drinking a smoothie and making a smacking sound after every sip. ughhhhh!
Using vintage silk ties as a belt is a great way to add some “artistic flair” to your outfits. Looks cute with shirtwaist dresses and casually through belt loops on pants.
I just found your channel and wanted to scream “yes! Yes! YES!” 🤣 I am neither French nor American (Canadian here) but I loved your style of video; instead of talking TO us as is seen so often, you seemed to be talking WITH us! It felt like I was shopping with my SIL as we were always honest with each other and would try to create a ‘look’ instead of just wearing an item as you found it in the store. That is how I look at French Girl style: less is more, but NEVER forget the details. Thank you for very informative yet fun video and I look forward to watching many many more! Hugs from Canada’s Arctic❣️❣️🇨🇦
I absolutely love belting things. I am 6 feet tall and if I don’t have a waist I look like a fridge 🤣 I am learning so much from your videos, and I enjoy having access to someone with a dang personality. You crack me up and you feel like an old friend, which is probably weird to say but I love my quirky girlfriends, they’re my people! The information you are giving makes SOOO much more sense than other stylists I have tried to learn from. Thank you!
I'm only 5'3" and built like a fire plug, although not fat. I wear belts regularly. I also use scarves as belts. It gives the illusion that I have a waist
@@ladywytch129 I'm 5'9" and I had a time like this in my early 20s when I was carrying a little more weight and I saw a picture of myself looking like a fridge and I figured out it wasn't exactly the extra weight, it was my terrible posture! As soon as I straightened up, I was hot! Lol
I just found you, and now I'm going to need to binge your videos! Your verbal processing out loud is a lot like me, only mine comes with unnecessary profanity and random weird noises. Also, I'm not sure how tall you are, but you have a lot of "vertical" to be able to carry a long duster like that on top of all those "baggier fitting" clothes and it look perfectly chic instead of like someone trying to wear a sloppy heap of bathrobes - I'm jealous! You also seem to have a lot of Gamine Essence to be able to pull off all the colors and quirk without looking tacky - it just looks fun and elegant on you! I love it! You're a breath of fresh air!
Yes, was thinking these exact things while watching. I could never pull off the colors/quirk - nor can I wear belts as it splits my vertical. I tried it recently inspired by these videos and it make me look dumpy. Such a good reminder that style rules are so individual based on our body types. (You really know what works for you, Diana!)
@@ursamajormousetry really slim belts, ribbon or chain belts. For petites, size everything down. You’ll look fabulously dramatic in a kimono made for petite. I’m just over 5 foot tall. I wish I’d learned to sew. That way off the peg can be made to measure ❤
You've helped me realize "bland is beautiful" when one's attention can appreciate style, cut, design, workmanship rather than colour! That all said, beige, tan etc.. have merit as colors to some degree :)
I love it all! One thing I would do is tie the kimono belt behind you. It will create shape keeping the kimono from hanging straight down overwhelming the wide pant. I want those red earrings. 😊
Just love how you styled your clothes with accesories. That's what I do and as for belts, they make an outfit look so much better! I've also taken big wide or oblong scarves, folded them and wore them as a belt. You have such a knack for putting things together!! Fab job!❤
I think you should do an entire episode on bralettes and how to show them tastefully. As a person who NEVER shows their bras due to modesty, this is a new concept that I would love to explore. We travel to Europe a lot and I’d really like to blend-in.
Yes I've worn a couple lacy bralettes I own a few different ways. One was under a summer dress. it was a lacy halter type bralettet. So pretty. Mustard color under mustard dress. Dress a krinkly 100% cotton gauze like fabric. Matched perfectly. It gave me coverage In front and lace around neck and the front peeked out just enough to look like part of the dress. I was very pleased with the look. Got many compliments. Very feminine look... I should add, I wore a wide woven brown leather belt, brass buckle, with it to complete the look...
Except now that I am a “generous” 71, mine need more of a scaffold, but a SOFT scaffold. No underwire, etc, but engineered so they don’t let me down. Thank goodness there are more of these bras for chic older women. Not “bumper bullets” but softly supportive. I love your videos.
Yeah, I like the American twist in things. It's more fun, bordering on tacky, but really more fun. Even if minimalist fashion is beautiful too, maximalist fashion is way interesting, 😊
I absolutely LOVE YOUR STILE OF PRESENTATION OF THE SUBJECT!! You are incredibly NATURAL AND GENUINE , which is sooo refreshing in today’s fashion videos world!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 21:35
Very hard to wear, though, if you're in menopause and/or have a tummy (and a wide rear). They just accentuate your pudge, especially if you're short. I can't tuck in, and I don't wear dresses. Maybe a loose belt over a caftan, but even that's not usually flattering. Layering isn't possible most of the year where I live because it's brutally hot. I just wear what I want now and have stopped trying to look younger/skinnier/trendier.
The beautiful TarynTruly who calls herself mid-size popped up in my feed. She's a big busted, apple shape. Her signature for slimming & elongating ↕️ is HIGH WAISTED Bottoms (skirts, trousers, shorts); CROPPED wide strapped tanks (to avoid having to tuck); & an excellent bra. She always uses a belt for added waist definition. Not for the purposes of cinching or squeezing, but simply to draw the eye👁👁 up ⬆️. Lastly, she'll add a seasonal topper of varying lengths over her outfit. There are all sorts of lightweight toppers suitable for hot climates🥵. Consider a gilet or a more traditional waistcoat as one. There are soft button up shirts & button front shirt dresses that can double as a light "shacket." There are whisper light crochet cardigans or lacy concoctions that can serve as a topper. Like Diana, you could use a kimono or other light robe as a topper. An extra long scarf could serve as a light wrap. While a short scarf could add a touch of theatre🎭 around your neck in place of a hot topper. Otherwise, consider leveling up w/jewelry. You needn't go overboard. Statement earrings & a 💄bold lip👄will bring the gaze right up to your sparkling smile &/or eyes. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for highlighting feminine-forward dresses and blouses (and shorts)! I LOVE the eyelet-sleeved “grandmother’s tablecloth” blouse! You are lovely! Thank you for encouraging me and reminding me and demonstrating to me how to make lovely feminine outfits!❤
I'm glad you made the tablecloth comment re the beige blouse because that's exactly what it looks like. Watching you wearing belts is like a vicarious fashion moment for me as I just can't wear one at my waist. Waist too high, hips too wide...sigh. Just accentuates the negative. But I have always admired them.
I’m new too and I loved this, so fun! The outfits were amazing, especially the last one. It’s amazing what you can do with a little confidence and some of your own trusty wardrobe.
You are reminding me of what I go through when I am trying something different in am outfit. We all should watch you and mirror the fun of changing our regular outfits to fun outfits. Be imaginative as you did. Great fun.
I'm with you in enjoying a more classic French look and adding what makes it mine, usually in the form of a scarf or belt in a color I know I look good in. I've found beautifully made clothing, leather shoes, boots and purses, etc., over the years at thrift stores and don't want to get rid of them. I'm also on the modest and conservative side anyway (I'm 70 now but felt the same back when I was in my 20s and 30s). When you get compliments on what you wear, you know you must be doing something right. I know, sometimes it's because I'm an old gal now, lol. One thing I'm not big on anymore is heels, though. I'm retired, outdoors and do a lot of walking, and I just can't do heels like back in the day. The shoes have to be comfortable. I love pearl and gold-colored jewelry and like keeping it simple, ditto my hair.
This is hard for me, because I’ve always disliked belts, BUT I can SEE they do look better!! Also, new subscriber! I’m only 24, but I’m an old soul, and I love these more elegant, subtle, mature, French girl styles - not the modern crop tops and leggings and athleisure. I adorrrrrre that cream lacy blouse, and the blue and white dress!! But most of all, I subscribed because I love your personality! You’re enjoyable and fun to listen to. I feel like a 24-year-old hanging out with my cool aunt, trying on clothes and learning from her. 😁🥰
I loved this! Loved all the looks, the belts, the blouses. Your humor is great! Best fashion video I've found and most fun. I first thought no about a belt with the flowy dress, but you were right. It did look better with the belt.
Hi! I just found you and watched one of your videos for the first time. How FUN! I find you quirky and refreshing without being annoying over the top. Looking forward to more of your fun videos. Thanks❣️
Great outfits! I especially loved the last one with the kimono! And the blue dress with red accessories too! I guess I like a little bit more of fun :))
Simple and elegant! Love the white blouse. You are so right, trends come and go, classics are always in style. Looking at some pictures of Marilyn Monroe how many decades ago? yet everything she were is stylish and elegant today! Love the video!
I'm so happy to have stumbled on your channel. RUclips recommended you to me because I was researching going grey and there you were - letting your grey be themselves BUT SO MUCH MORE! Exactly what I've needed to cheer up my slide into September with a fun and joyful attitude and happy perspective. I've been binge-watching your posts and feeling better by the minute. I'm a veteran thrifter and will be starting to seriously scout silk, cashmere, and linen. Thank you for the Queen Baddie attitude. I'm going to the park today to meet up with girlfriends and I can't wait to see what I wear. 😆xo karen
@@unblahyourself I wore pale wash jeans under a light cotton India printed dress of autumnal oranges/browns and turquoise tones. I added a skimpy orange fine wool sweater with hand-stitched felt appliques and my red converse. (Everybody else wore either shorts or sweats with t-shirts). I was happy. 😁
I WISH I could wear shirtwaist dress!! My closet would be full of them if I could! My Mom had an hourglass figure and lived in shirtwaist dresses and red lipstick. I however was cursed with an 'apple' shape making shirtwaist dresses look hideous, dumpy & frumpy on me. 😢
I just discovered your channel and I'm loving it! I subscribed instantly. I was also shocked to see that someone else also has the cool sparkly belt I found at a thrift shop! I swear it's the exact same belt. Love your videos and looking forward to new ones. ❤
Thank you for the great information. Love, loved, loved the robe/outdoor coat shown at the end. Lots of blue, my favorite color but with other colors which would make it more versatile Immediately searched your website for a link for it. I couldn't find it so went to Zara site. That was a dead end. If I am missing it I apologize. If it is not there then respectfully, it would be so helpful for you to provide links so that we can put your FABULOUS ideas into practice. If items are no longer available....perhaps alternatives? I also loved the beautiful V neck white blouse. You are a genius, I would like that too.... and the belts. Loved what the belts did for the black dress. Thank you again for great ideas!
Oh I totally understand that people want links but I tend to thrift all of my clothes. I'm going to work on a way of linking to similar items but right now I don't have a single second left in my day. Just know that I'm aware and I want to fix it!
I think the pretty blue dress with red accessories is kinda a mix of American boho and French girl chic. I love your channel-so happy I stumbled upon it yesterday. 😊
Love that kimono jacket! Fabulous. I like what you said about not caring whether it is in or out of fashion. You styled everything so nicely. Thanks for sharing!
You are a breath of fresh air. So beautiful. And so talented with fashion. I loved the barrel pants with the white blouse. Thought it was a fun twist to regular strait jeans.
OK little miss, you are now my new CHANNEL CRUSH! Loved every second of this! just subscribed to you. I have recently been making efforts to be more stylish and am still in my fledgling stage. I loved your "Bold Gold" accessories and I am a huge fan of ALL BELTS! ❤❤❤❤❤ Plus, your channel name is the shiznit👍
I think "grounded" is a great way to describe it. I am a big belt wearer and realize how much a belt can upgrade your outfit. (My grandmother who had a big influence on me was French.)
You're hilarious! My first time watching your channel. I randomly clicked on your video, ended up watching the entire thing.

But most of all, I subscribed because I love your personality! You’re enjoyable and fun to listen to. I feel like a 24-year-old hanging out with my cool aunt, trying on clothes and learning from her. 😁🥰
Thank you!!! It's my ultimate goal to be a cool aunt/mom you never had/supportive big sister
I loved this! Loved all the looks, the belts, the blouses. Your humor is great! Best fashion video I've found and most fun. I first thought no about a belt with the flowy dress, but you were right. It did look better with the belt.
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Hi! I just found you and watched one of your videos for the first time. How FUN! I find you quirky and refreshing without being annoying over the top. Looking forward to more of your fun videos. Thanks❣️
Thank you! Glad you're here!
Such a fun video. Love the styling!
Great outfits! I especially loved the last one with the kimono! And the blue dress with red accessories too! I guess I like a little bit more of fun :))
Thank you RUclips algorithm! I love your sense of style!
Thank you! Glad you're here!
The blue dress, belt gave you a waist…. It defined it!! Very pretty
Simple and elegant! Love the white blouse. You are so right, trends come and go, classics are always in style. Looking at some pictures of Marilyn Monroe how many decades ago? yet everything she were is stylish and elegant today! Love the video!
The jeans and that shirt look great
You popped up in my feed. You're great and I subbed! I love your natural makeup and all your belted clothing ideas.
Yay! Thank you!
😆xo karen
Aw I'm so glad you're here with us! What did you wear??
@@unblahyourself I wore pale wash jeans under a light cotton India printed dress of autumnal oranges/browns and turquoise tones. I added a skimpy orange fine wool sweater with hand-stitched felt appliques and my red converse. (Everybody else wore either shorts or sweats with t-shirts). I was happy. 😁
You are so fun! And you have an artist’s eye and sense of colour.
thank you!
I love your hair in the wedge best after looking at old videos. But you’re gorgeous regardless. And fun!🥰
Thank you! I just cut it again for summer and I'm just gonna enjoy the summer breeze on my neck!
I've never seen you so excited! 😄 This was fun to watch. I love your channel and seeing you have fun and express yourself with your wardrobe.
A no frills shirtdress is timeless. 👍🏻
Yep... Crappy belt...lol
Belts do change everything...
I love them...
Oh that kimono with jeans outfit. Love it.
Ooh don't doubt it.
I had sooo soo much fun.
Found your channel recently. And I am very happy 😊
Welcome! 😘
I just discovered your channel and I'm loving it! I subscribed instantly.
I was also shocked to see that someone else also has the cool sparkly belt I found at a thrift shop! I swear it's the exact same belt.
Love your videos and looking forward to new ones. ❤
Thanks for subbing! Welcome!! ❤
Your videos are fun, useful, and brilliantly edited.
Glad you like them! 😘
I LOVED this video! So fun and so informative!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are such fun.
You've made my day.
Love your company ❤
Thank you for being here!
Aloha! OMG! I just came upon your channel. Love it!
Yay! Thank you and welcome!
Fun video! Love that you try new things, and I always learn something from you.
I had such fun watching this video. Thanks for the whimsical ideas!!
You are so welcome! Glad you're here!
Your video just popped up…..watched it. I love your style suggestions. They are easy to incorporate and I will definitely follow your suggestions👏👏👏
"I do not different for fashion. Ever!"
SUBSCRIBED!!
I think the pretty blue dress with red accessories is kinda a mix of American boho and French girl chic. I love your channel-so happy I stumbled upon it yesterday. 😊
Thank you and welcome! ❤
I love your hair! I took pictures of it to show my stylist. I like your tips as well.
That's really cool thank you! I cut my own hair , I can't see the back, and it's always an experiment so I find this very entertaining. 😄
Love that kimono jacket! Fabulous. I like what you said about not caring whether it is in or out of fashion. You styled everything so nicely. Thanks for sharing!
And thanks for hanging out with me! 😘
You are a breath of fresh air. So beautiful. And so talented with fashion. I loved the barrel pants with the white blouse. Thought it was a fun twist to regular strait jeans.
Thank you!
OK little miss, you are now my new CHANNEL CRUSH! Loved every second of this! just subscribed to you. I have recently been making efforts to be more stylish and am still in my fledgling stage. I loved your "Bold Gold" accessories and I am a huge fan of ALL BELTS!

Plus, your channel name is the shiznit👍
Thanks so much!!🥰 this means a lot to me.
You are fun!
I love that blue necklace ❤ Your makeup looks lovely too 👏👏
This is a really great video, funny, stylish and classy with an amazing pinch of that creativity & color pop. Ty, Diana!
Thank you! ☺
Love the blue and white dress with the scarf as a sashy belt and earrings and bracelet! ❤ Beautiful, and fun.
I LOVE the last outfit especially blouse and the JEANS??? Where would I find them? Awesome outfit.
Sorry these are thrifted items so I don't know, but if you grab a screen shot you might be able to Google image search them!
I love this first shirt waist look but now days my tummy is my flaw to not show off possibly by belting it in my biggest part.
I actually fell in LOVE with those LAST pair of jeans. I wish I knew where to buy them!!❤❤
I wish I knew too!
I have so many belts I don’t wear, thanks for the advice!
It's belt time!
I think "grounded" is a great way to describe it. I am a big belt wearer and realize how much a belt can upgrade your outfit. (My grandmother who had a big influence on me was French.)
Hi, I came upon you by accident, and you are so refreshing and enjoyable to watch. ❤ love your presenting style so natural and witty
Thank you! Glad you're here!
I NEEDED this video! I have a sheer feminine robe/ kimono with roses that I was wondering how to wear outside! Thank you! 🙏
