Great tutorial, thank you very much, I have just a question, I saw in the tutorial that you were shooting in 12mp mode, isn't the 50mp better in image quality over the 12mp?
Thank you for this amazing tutorial. Your instructions are the clearest and the best that I have seen so far. I find it absolutely amazing what a mobile phone can do now.
Thank you. Others have suggested .8 or .9. I've personally had difficulty on manual mode due to low light but I will give it a shot....no pun intended.
This video is insane! I can't wait to try this ❤ What if I wanted to shoot with long exposure? Do you happen to have a video on long exposure with camera raw?
Thank you - yes try it out! I don't have a video on long exposures with camera raw, but I do have a video about long exposures using Pro Mode which is pretty much the same thing!
Just breathtaking. I have a question though, I'm currently using a S23 and in the expert raw mode there is no way of setting the duration of the shutter, like it only shows long, medium and short. Now I tried the long one but it is only 2 mins long. is there any way to extend the duration to 10 mins on the S23?
Are you actually attempting to do photography under a dark sky condition? I am playing with this on my S24+ and only under dark night sky does it show 10 minute countdown for the LONG duration. If you are getting the pop-up notification "Too bright for astrophoto" then the times are automatically adjusted downward to seconds of exposure. The times are variable based on lighting conditions.
@walterbobrowski4761 hmmm, now that you mention it, i don't remember getting any prompt of that kind but yeah there is a bit of light pollution around and it's not completely dark and probably why i can only get like 2-4 mins of exposure. Thanks for the tip, much appreciated.
I also have S23 and I have captured amazing night photos using the same settings...but In my setting the short duration is of 3 min ...medium of 6 min and long is of 12 mins..
Thank you! When you shoot in Pro Mode or Expert Raw mode you have the option to shoot in RAW which gives you a .DNG file. RAW photos are heaps better and more flexible when you're colourgrading them using Lightroom. Go to the settings and check that you're shooting in RAW and JPEG.
Digital camera sensors literally only capture brightness intensities, not color. However, each pixel of a sensor is traditionally covered with either a R,G, or B filter in a particular pattern (traditionally a Bayer Filter Array, but also may be a manufacturer's proprietary pattern). Thus to "see" full color when each pixel only captures the brightness value of one particular color, then a proprietary mathematical algorithm is employed to "guess" at the missing two colors per pixel based on the "color brightness" of the neighboring pixels. However, many times the manufacturer's algorithm isn't quite what you expected (some enhance the greens of landscape, others are designed to enhance flesh tones, etc.). Thus, for the most serious photographer who wants absolute control over the colors to be presented, each camera manufacturer decided to produce their own proprietary file format of images with only light intensities per pixels---no color conversion. Adobe Systems then promoted a "universal" Digital Negative format called "DNG". It is literally the raw, brightness values of each and every pixel, unaltered by manufacturer software. Thus, using Adobe software like Photoshop or Lightroom, you open the DNG file containing only brightness values (sort of like a B&W image but remember each pixel has only captured 1/3 of the possible color light values) and then play with 'adding color' back to suite the desires of the photographer.
You don't mention any post processing, does the camera put it all together in one video file? I am going to try this out before the next Aurora to see how I go. Focusing, does the camera auto focus? when I opened up the hyperlaps mode there was no way to focus. Cheers Robert Aust'
Thanks for the explanation However, is there any difference if we use 50 mPix camera instead of 12 while in expert raw? Will the images be better on 50 Mpix?
i have the s23 and cant take good night sky photos for the life of me, i have tried everything even the 10min wait one and my friends with iphones only wait 5seconds and theres always come out better.
Try using the pro mode in the normal camera app. Then set exposure to longer time like 10-30 seconds. Place it on a tripod and you should get great photos
That is simply amazing!! How's the battery keeping while doing long exposure shots or astro timelapses? Does the device becomes hot if you leave for a lot of minutes (or even hours) while taking the shots?
Love the video! Thank youso much. . One final comment that saved my life ajajajja if you record your hyperlapse with Star trail "Off" as a regular hyperlapse and still Want the star trail option ... the phone can produce a star trail "On" option after. In the gallery you click the "i" button or slide the image up, you'll unlock the automatic feature "star trails" that makes the magic for you even if you recorded the video with star trails "off". And it's absolutely magnificent the job done there. 🌙🌟🌙
Because it's not a "10 minute exposure". It's a merge of many photos taken during that time. It's how classical astrophotography is now performed: merge many photos, hundreds if not thousands of individual photos.
The times are 4, 6 or 10 minutes (short, medium, long), but only if you are shooting under dark sky conditions. If there is extraneous light the times will be shortened.
My S23 Ultra doesn't seem to have the duration option. It only has the "capture time: short, medium, long". I don't have the 10 min option. Please help 😢

Thanks so much! Yess try it out!
Same! Just ordered a Tripod
Soo you try it ??
I have S23 and it also gives amazing results...
Your videos are by far the most informative and easiest to understand. Thank you.
Great tutorial, thank you very much, I have just a question, I saw in the tutorial that you were shooting in 12mp mode, isn't the 50mp better in image quality over the 12mp?
Great tutorial. Very much applicable for the S24 ultra too. Thank you!

Thank youu!
You are amazing ! You just motivated me. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Glad I can help :)
Thanks for the insights! Now I wonder would meteors being captured as stars or would have light trail in the 10 minutes expert raw exposure?
Anytime man! I think meteors would be captured as stars in the 10 minutes expert raw exposure
@@demasrusli thanks buddy. It is so much easier to catch milkyway any place other than tropical place like Malaysia
Thanks mate for this wonderful tutorial

You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Doin that astrophotography with my Galaxy S24 🎉
Great info. Thanks for explaining what the camera is doing for 10 minutes. Do you have a recommended setting for focus?
Thank you! For focus, I recommend manual focus and focusing on the brightest star

I have the same phone but mine always works like a charm
@@dimkadimon hey mate sorry my last tag didnt work but any tips would be great!
My s23 works amazing .
It must be a problem on your side , again try expert raw.
My S23 has no problems, you got scammed

Hi mate, does it matter how many MP the camera is on? Also which preset did you use for the raw image in Lightroom
Do you need extra storage for the time lapse? Seems like an hour would take up a lot of space. Sorry, I'm a novice to photography.
I'm going out tonight to try this on the beach
How did you go?
Hi would this be the same for samsung s22 plus?
How do i change exposure in hyperlapse night mode? Everything is barely visible...
Yesterday i wanted to record the aurora but i put it too late and it only recorded last minutes of it before rain.. but the quality isnt great..
Hi, when i tried it before it made my shoot too bright, any tip?
Can you share the lightroom preset?
My eyes teared of these beautiful views 6:10 😢

Gosh, didn't know about that. After video ended I just thought how cool would that be if I can have both footages. Gotta test it out next time 💪🏻

Thanks u Sir
Hey how much GB space does 1 hour take ?
Are you sure the star trail one is just one hour of recording?
Yes it was 1.5 hours
How didn't you get visible movement of the stars using 10 minute exposure?
Because it's not a "10 minute exposure". It's a merge of many photos taken during that time. It's how classical astrophotography is now performed: merge many photos, hundreds if not thousands of individual photos.

Hahaha yep!
Like it❤
Thank youu
Can I do it on my S21 FE?
S21 fe doesn't have expert raw mode
But you do astrophotography from pro mode
But now It only show short medium long exposure, and its nearly impossible to take the galaxy. What should I do?
The times are 4, 6 or 10 minutes (short, medium, long), but only if you are shooting under dark sky conditions. If there is extraneous light the times will be shortened.
