I liked how he looked in ecstasy during his second taste and said "Wonderful!" For Horst to say that after tasting so many scotches tells me this is definitely one to buy! Thank you Horst, I am now a subscriber :-)
Wow, this whisky! I just picked up a miniature set (as I'm new to whisky) and this laphroaig lore was among them. The palette for me is very medicinal, but the aftertaste is smokiness and wet wood, as though I've just finished smoking a cigarette. Surprisingly though the alcohol isn't overpowering even at 48%, as the flavours are so pronounced. A very challenging whisky for the beginner but wow is it worth trying for the experience!
Love the tasting and reaction @ 7:43 ............Whenever Horst reacts like this I buy the whisky. Tasting my own bottle now and will be on my top favs list!...........Thank you Horst for making this vlog..........Slainte'
Just picked up a bottle of this for new years eve haven't opened it yet. its summer time here in Australia i'm going to wait until winter to open this one. can't wait to try it. good review as always Horst
Thank you sir I dont usually like to much peat I tried ardbeg and laphroaig select they both opened up my interest and understanding of peat malts I have all the JW so this was different for my taste I enjoy whiskey when i have a good day I watch your tasting and enjoy my time in my bar with some chocolate thanks again I could watch you all day
My first thought was that Laphroaig is using the No Age Statement trend for all the normal reasons and this could be considered more of a marketing concept, but based upon the original taste that as you show is enjoyable and unique, they seem to have created a success, a worthwhile addition to their product line. I think it's noteworthy that as you were obviously enjoying this Dram, from my point of view you seemed intent on finishing this Dram on camera, not just with two tastes, but emptying the glass with some gusto. This to me seems like high praise, an indication of a very enjoyable Scotch Whisky. Thanks for this review.
It's 65% 15 year old Laphroaig, and even incudes some 21 year old. The youngest whisky that goes into it is 7 or 8. The NAS makes perfect sense for this. Giving it a 7 year age statement wouldn't be doing it justice.
+HillaToppa 90'z If they don't state on the label natural color, then it's artificial colored in my opinion. Why bother to say 'non chill filtered ' and don't mention natural color? It's a marketing trick ! We read 'non chill filtered' And we automatically presume it's also natural color.
koeliejoelie2 For me personally I don't mind if a whisky is artificially colored if it's non-chill filtered because coloring makes no difference taste wise, but whether it is chill filtered or non chill filtered can make a huge difference in taste... plus when a whisky is colored it adds to its visual appeal and makes it look more inviting (i know its a marketing gimmick) but yeah if the whisky is non-chill filtered i dont mind the fact that its colored
+HillaToppa 90'z I think you are absolutely right when it comes to tasting and smelling E150 ! But I recommend to take a look at a video here on whisky.com were Horst has Taken an experiment on chill filtration. The results were surprising! I have more trouble with coloring because I thing whisky should be a natural and artisan product. With no additions . So you can judge if it's sherry , bourbon cask 1st or refill. It tells something what to expect and it's for me a part of understanding and learning how taste and smell develop. But then again that's my opinion and I do respect your opinion. There is no wrong or right I guess. All personal preference .
I think it is partly the fault of the Scotch Whisky assoc that NAS Whiskies are becoming more prevalent. If the companies were allowed to be more transparent (like Compass Box was trying to be), then you might be able to compare Whiskies more readily. Like somebody already said, if they had to put an age statement on this, it would be 7 yrs...but if they could list all the ages and percentages in it ( apparently there is 21yr old in it ), it would be easier for consumers to decide what they want to buy...but, why would you pay more for a 7yr old than a 10? It might only be 5% Whisky which is less than 10 years old...but they still have to call it 7.
Why talk about age at all when you can pretend your hands are tied by regulations you don't want to change anyway, and you can then get away with an NAS label and some bullshit about "flexibility"? The real reason for NAS is that too many people are simply too stupid to know that age mattering to whisky character isn't, and can't be, dependent upon a producer's bottom line or their resulting label choice.
can be hard to get a taste of some high value bottles, i agree with you sentiment but in practice it's not an option for many of us. we need to gamble a little when we buy a bottle and an age statement gives a feeling of security
My sense on NAS is cask availablity at distilleries, I.e. macallan is a prime offender, they are low on 12, so now they put out Amber and Gold, etc.....HOWEVER, note that not all NAS expressions are "cheap", while their Laphroiag Lore may contain
It's 65% 15 year old Laphroaig, and even contains some 21 year old. The youngest whisky that goes into it is a 7 year old fully matured in quarter casks
I went to Islay because of Laphroig ................stayed at Port Ellen close to Laphroaig..............tried Lore in the Laphroaig tasting bar looking out at the Sea through the window .........incredible place.
Lore as in folklore. Horst, it's "reminds me", not "remembers me" :) Sorry for the lecture, I do not mean to be patronizing, simply pointing that one out. Being a teacher in English has warped my psyche a bit. As far as the particular expression, I smell a contemporary marketing going berserk. Basically, the next Triple Wood, no matter what they say. Yet, twice the price...
+Danevv I give you credit for apologizing to Horst before pointing out the correct English... when I listen to Horst though I always feel an appreciation for what it would be like to make videos and put them on the Internet where one is speaking a second language. Let me exaggerate to make my point... imagine me learning Korean, then making Whisky tasting videos in Korean for a Korean audience... That kind of thing is beyond my ability. I wonder... perhaps Horst has been speaking English since a young age. It's hard for me to imagine someone taking English in High School as a second language, or in College and then being able to speak on camera this well. Your thoughts?
I am certain Horst didn't have much of an exposure to English at an early age, and I, without a doubt, cherish his dilligence and perseverance when it comes to bringing out his (and his son, too) reviews in English. It is commendable by all means. What is more, I have to admit I was more than pleased to find out that he had gone to such lengths as to start an English version of his original German podcast. And he is quickly improving by all means. Let me reiterate, I dare not think of sounding one bit condescending in pointing out his linguistic shortcomings. Hopefully, you are not offended by my earlier comment, either.
+Danevv Well i think his native language is German so yeah i think naturally there probably is a few little grammatical barriers he would run into from time to time. I know a vietnamese girl who speaks good english but runs into the same issues every so often
it is a NAS; therefore, I don't know what I am paying for. It is smoke and mirrors whisky. It is a scam. The only whisky that has the respect of my hard earned money is whisky with age statements, non chill filtered, and natural colour. Take care. bye bye.
If you truly believe that every whisky must have an age statement, here is one for you. 200 years of tradition went into this bottle. 200 years of the same process being taught to the future of the distillery. Two hundred years of men and women learning to make and love a spirit that defines their home. I'm sorry if because they didn't slap a number on the label you'll be missing out.
they also produced the Laphroaig 15 to honour their 200th anniversary. I understand that NAS is a survival reaction to the current shortage of aged stock.
If it had a 7 on the front of the bottle would you buy it then? If it had a 21 on the bottle would you buy it? Cause thats the range of age. Age statements dont matter. Is the whisky good? Is it worth the price? Yes or no.
whisky, transparency, maturation and money ... you don't seem to mind placing your money on a price tag and a name without an age statement. I prefer to spend my money on a whisky with an age statement.
"full, and really Laphroaig". That one line said it all.
llamawizard pretty sure he meant euphoric tho
Sounded like he said euphoric
I liked how he looked in ecstasy during his second taste and said "Wonderful!" For Horst to say that after tasting so many scotches tells me this is definitely one to buy! Thank you Horst, I am now a subscriber :-)

😂😂😂
Wow, a three-sipper! Must be good indeed.

Horst, love your videos/reviews. I am new to single malts and the Laphroig10 was one of my first purchases. Love it.
Wow! You started with one of the top ten whiskeys in the world.
My absolute favorite whisky!

Thank you Horst! Really enjoy watching these reviews! Best in RUclips! Thank you and sláinte!

It's the best whisky I've ever tasted. Buy it if you ever see it.

This scotch is the first I've ever tasted and then immediately thought of mezcal.
I love the Cragganmore 12 yrs in Japan about jus over 3000 yen its a good drop for the price thanks again for showing me this whiskey
Sounds like this is a scotch I need to buy.
youre the best Horst
I could buy 3 bottles of 10yo to one Lore. But I must buy every version of Laphroaig, magic!
Non chill filtered. Do they all so state on the label natural color???
+koeliejoelie2 Alot of the time it will state on the label if its un-chill filtered as well as being natural color but it depends on the distillery.
+HillaToppa 90'z If they don't state on the label natural color, then it's artificial colored in my opinion. Why bother to say 'non chill filtered ' and don't mention natural color? It's a marketing trick !

keep it real and honest and don't colour it.
my #1 whiskyguy!
Horst is proof you don't need to be an alcoholic to enjoy whisky.
+Wade Hartley Alcoholics dont enjoy whisky anyway, they just abuse it
You listen here, bud. I enjoy it and abuse it ya fuckin' dingo.
get real you noob. Horst gets hammered off cam and he has been hungover for 10 years straight. Horst is 34 years old.
Alcoholics can't afford this whisky ;)
Must be hard to be an alcoholic and enjoy whiskey to its fullest..
Do all bottles of Laphroaig come with the square foot of land or is it just the 10 year and this bottle?
Every bottle does. Enjoy ur day
how much does this usually cost?
Wunderbar
How can anyone trust that different batches of NAS whisky will remain consistent? The first batch of this had 21 YO whisky in it. Will this continue?
i really get turned off by the NAS bottles, if they have a sexy name and modern looking graphics i run for the hills
@@andrewescocia2707 You're missing out.
Im buying a bottle tomorrow.

Ignore the age of whisky, just try it, you like it or dislike it depends on your taste.

I wish I could get over the smoke but I cant ..still like it though
Is it me ors its Raisiny, Grape , Apricot. And Pipe Tabacco

some of the NAS bottles really set my alarm bells ringing, the ones with really modern looking graphics and sexy names on them doubly so

indeedy
Ah yes I’m an expat in Japan we can get a good selection at a reasonable price I’m lucky ☺️
Seems young
i really hate your microphone, man. Prevents me from watching your videos.
what's so bad about it?
Agree, Horst knows how to taste a dram.
Embrace the swish. He's worth it.

I think it's foolish to blindly boycott a good whisky just because there isn't an age statement.
