First, thanks for watching! Second, this is not a tutorial or a how to play or even something I would recommend you try. This is a fun game to me, however Playing Star Citizen alone can lead to many painful mistakes...learn from my dumbass. Talk to people in chat or friends that have the game and watch some of the newer beginners guides. Third if you do decide to play, use a Referral code to get the extra starter cash. Mine is STAR-NLFV-ZCGM, but if your best friend is teaching you to play use theirs...

you could have grabbed the cargo in the wreck by pressing the yellow button in the cargo holder with your inner thought menu. Also you can go to any medical lab in a space station and set that as your new respawn point so you don't have to respawn at area 18 everytime you die. to avoid ejecting out of seat or to get up off any chair or whatever just press Y and avoid using inner thought menu altogether. never turn off your ship power when you leave your ship on pad or planet. Keeping the power on keeps your shields on and it also makes it harder for your ship to get blown away. just some tips. enjoyed the vid.

General tip for spawning closer to your mission areas - most major ports and cities will have a medical facility in them. If you can find the medical bay/wing, you can set your regeneration in those places, which will change your spawn point in the event you meet your untimely end. If you're the lucky owner of either a Carrack and/or an 890 Jump, you may also set your regeneration point inside those ship's medical bays, which act as a mobile spawn point.
5:40 - There're buttons (yellow light) that'll release the package from its containment. Unfortunately, we just have to know these things sometimes.
7:30 - Your upgrades to your ships (ie. gun changes or shield upgrades) persists through the claim (for now). Your cargo and things on your body however is indeed gone.
8:30 - Bummer. Seems like the missile from the AI damaged your power plant. You can turn off your shields and weapons to try and divert more power back to engines and get away if that happens. (Keyboard shortcut O and P)
9:45 - While trading is very simple/easy and an effective way to make money, trading profit margins have also been significantly nerfed from the early 3.x days. You'll need a large cargo hauling ship to make these runs worthwhile over missions (and you're still risking millions in capital to any unfortunate incidents). Most trading runs will net about 13-20% profit margins depending on the commodity you're hauling.
11:35 - There's actually a neat lootbox at the left corner of that trading hub you were visiting (red rectangular box) - that lootbox in particular would have had some decent free armor which you can now sell for some extra cash (or use) in 3.17.
20:08 - Weather now affects your movement, so if you're running into high winds, your character would brace against it and try to move towards that direction, but with a lot of difficulty (hence the slower movement). Additionally, there is now a default keybind to wipe your helmet visor (Ctrl-X on keyboard I think). Furthermore, yes the high winds can indeed blow away your ship if the engines are unpowered.
General tip - With the reputation system implemented, you'll actually find that there're very high paying missions that are unlocked after you do enough of the lower ones. Even basic box deliveries can pay up to 45k per run at the upper tiers.
27:08 - We've all been there. Good thing the auto-exploding restricted area mechanic is (mostly) gone.
29:02 - Yooooo That's Jumptown. Or at least another version of it. That place is a hotzone when the event is online. Players kill on sight there, so be careful.
30:20 - Security Scans. Hold still if you don't want crimestat until the scan is complete.
30:46 - You can actually wait out the timer on the fine, and it goes away. Can save you some money.
32:50 - Bounty hunting missions are fantastic ways to make money in game right now. No capital risk. Pays very decently for higher end hunts. If you go through the Eckhart mission chain, you'll even have a chance at bringing down an Idris.
34:40 - You can always check your mission history tab in your Contract Manager to double check if the mission was completed or failed.
34:50 - You're not wrong. Mining is where a lot of money is made, BUT only if you're consistently getting full loads of Quantanium (which is volatile and will explode if you don't make it back to the station in time). There is also a major waiting time as you process the Quantanium in the refineries, and your earnings will likely not show up until a day or two later. If you're okay with waiting, then mining is probably the single most profitable activity in the game as of 3.16 and 3.17.
Hand mining on the other hand is a bit slower, but also makes decent money. Alternatively, ROC mining gives the same drops, but has much bigger rewards. The ROC mining vehicle is actually really cheap to buy in-game as well (in Lorville).
41:40 - You can always use the mobiglass galaxy map (F2 default) to Set Destination. This would remove all other Quantum jump markers from your HUD, making it much easier to spot your intended location.
43:10 - She needed either a medical gun or a multi-tool with the medical attachment to revive you. I think there's a way to also right click with the medpen to jab someone else(?), but I've never done that before, so someone else will need to verify that.
    45:45 - That's a Carrack
47:40 - Clovus Darneely. Shady-ish character - will probably get you into some trouble if you're not careful in those missions.
49:40 - Those were Nine Tails criminal org NPCs, so you're free to kill them and not get crimestat.
Other than that, this was a fantastic video - after awhile of being in the 'verse, we tend to forget that the New Player experience in Star Citizen is definitely rough. Hopefully these tips help!

This is by far one of the most accurate depictions of what the first few steps in SC are like. It really shows that having a good guide to help you along is incredibly helpful. For example ROC Mining for now requires you to fly low and fast above the ground and scan a lot and then land to do it efficiently like that you can make 100k very fast. Going only with a pistol into a bunker mission is a bit of a tricky one many people can do it. I myself always just died. Trading is more of a later game money maker. And Bounty hunting you kind of found the progression system in the end there do a bunch of LRTs until you get higher rank certificication and get to the higher level bounties. Those are really lucrative(45.000aUEC). The Gladius is great for Bounty hunting.
In general the game has an incredibly steep learning curve

Yeah, that's one of those things they'll eventually have to improve the UI/Inner Thought system, so hovering off an unusable object with attached functionality on another object (door panel, button, etc) will be "highlighted". Not a high priority for them now given most of the valuable feedback they get to action (bug reports, that is) comes from very experienced players, at this point.

Gotta make sure you shut down engines when you land on planets (keybind i). The way thrusters work in atmo in this game is that they will hold your ship in a hover.
This means that if you leave your ship engines on, and the wind is strong enough to lift any part of the ship up, even for just a second, your underside thrusters will kick in, keeping your ship in the air, and allowing the wind to blow it away more easily.

  • @Keithington249
    @Keithington249 2 года назад +139

When you land on a windy planet, press "i" to kill only your engines and the wind shouldn't carry it away, but your shields will still be up so it will still have a little protection while you are inside buying and selling stuff.

45:10 if your rental expires while you're out using the ship, it won't disappear on you. You can keep it out for hours and hours past the rental, it just won't let you claim it from a terminal next time.
However, there's also a bug that lets you basically use it forever. You just have to store/retrieve it at the same station every time (i.e. don't claim it through insurance at a different location) so it's not quite the same as owning it, obviously.
But I've had the same rented Prospector stored at CRUL1 for about 2 months now, just used it a few days ago. I'm not sure if it works with all rentals... I tried it with a Connie Andromeda at Orison and it didn't work. But so far it has worked with the Prospector, Cutlass, 300i, and Titan.

First: make sure that your weapons system in the Lower Right HUD corner is on AUTO insteed of LOCK or TARG, use Keybing G to cycle between the 3 Modes.
Sencond: look in the direction of your opponent and hit Keybind T to be able to aim for him.
    Bonus:
Default you'll get the LEAD PIP, that shows you where you need to put your nose to hit the Target.
Most ppl. recommend the Second Option LAG PIP instead that shows you wehere your shots will land if you fire them. So you can aim for ciritcal comp. like thrusters.
To change that hit ESC > Options > Scroll down in "Game Settings" little more than half way > search for "Vehicles - Targeting - PIP Reticle" and switch from LEAD to LAG.
I hope yout next Bountie mission will run much Smoother.

I love this video, great job! Unfortunately, it also acts as a prime example of why games need tutorials. Everything started when you tried to travel somewhere and, having failed, ended up needing to change into a new set of cloths. You spent ages trying to then figure it out. That’s not your fault. I’ve seen several people say that this is just realistic because life doesn’t hold your hand but it’s not. In real life you would just put your suit on. The first time you ever put on clothes you had to be taught how to do it by your parents. You couldn’t put your clothes on precisely because this game isn’t a reflection of real life but instead of acknowledging that fact with a tutorial, you were told nothing and are expected to try to just “figure it out.”
    That’s not realistic, that’s lazy.

I played a bit way back when, when there WAS a tutorial 'mission'. If you couldn't figure something out, you couldn't finish the tutorial. As I understand it now, they don't make tutorials because things change so much. Probably they will make one again once everything settles down a bit. But I agree, they could make very simple tutorials attached to specific tasks, such as a button in the inventory screen of your stuff that lists how to do things, such as equip gear, etc.

Engaging commentary, love hearing your random out-loud thoughts in game every now and then (face to ass man I laughed so hard :D ), great footage captured to show the gameplay from an honest perspective. One thing I never considered (having been playing the game for a long time now) CIG are going to have to be very generous on the number of times you can die before your character actually starts taking "permanent damage" (see Death of a Spaceman if you want more info on that aspect) because.. wow.. you sure die a lot haha. Brilliant that you keep on going though. Props to you and hope to see more videos of your journey. And I know you said you are a solo player, but .. • @stationbobofficial
      @stationbobofficial 2 года назад +1

@@luichinplaystation610 Yes, I agree - it is far too easy to die for no good reason right now which means that any negative effects for dying might feel unfair. However, do remember that Star Citizen is still only in public Alpha as a product, so there is still a long way to go until it feels balanced and is (relatively) bug free. And yes, "fly dangerous" does sound like an Elite saying, however I said it as a joke, because almost everyone else says "fly safe". ;)

Yeah I have seen many content creator's first time playing videos. But they always have veteran friends or viewers who help them around, give them the needed tips and instantly tell them if they mess up.
It's really interesting to see someone really trying to grasp it all without the help of someone.
Even I personally just asked a lot in global chat. And at some point like on day 2, some bored veteran tester hang around with me, toured me around, and added me. Then I played with him/her for a couple of weeks, while that player was teaching me how to do stuff.
On a complete tangent, this seems really common in SC. There's often not that much new stuff to do in every patch, and for many old testers/backers the greatest joy is to see someone new being all excited and giddy about all the insanely cool shit you take for granted after years of involvement.

The whole "your ship can blow the hell away" mechanic really surprised me when it was first added. The Cutlass being VTOL depends on RCS thrusters and tilting for forward movement, but when you're landing you have to level out, and when it's windy, the RCS thrusters are NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO STOP YOU FROM BLOWING AWAY!

  • @tgsphantom
    @tgsphantom 2 года назад +16

For future reference. When you keep your ships engines on, the ship is trying to stabilize itself against the ground even when landed. Because of this, things like the wind can send the ship flying because it gets into an equal liberum of G force and engine thrust than the wind is adding a new external force. Its good practice to turn off your engines (not the ship, just the engines) every time you land. It will stop your ship from flying away. You definitely kept me entertained through the video. The waiting is definitely VERY annoying early on, but after a while I think you start to appreciate just how giant the scale is of this game and seems to "embrace the suck" so to speak.

Honestly, for playing this game your experience, especially in the biginning will be far better if you join an org.
Orgs tend to know most the workaround for any bugs and can help you learn a lot of the easy mistakes to make in the game.
Orgs also make for more entertainment long term as having community run events and the social aspect really helps keep people interested.
I'm definitely biased but I'd personally reccommend Odyssey Interstellar.

Started playing a couple days ago, met some awesome people and one of them gifted me a million aUEC! Best game I've ever played, so ambitious! Every time I think I know most things about the game I'll get a jaw dropping moment! Truly Badass

This was hilarious m8. From the accidental ejections to being scared of red ai markers, this video really captured the experience of a new player. I remember when I myself made these mistakes and seeing a new player enjoy or fight through these experiences was very entertaining. Thanks for the vid Bob!

Watched your video, with a small jump closer to the end, and was surprised to see it actually playable. I never looked into SC before and have been wanting something new to play for a while. I am waiting on Blood Bowl 3 and The Gunk on steam. I have the download going now and it will be interesting to see how it goes. Sorry, I messed up though, I didn't add your referral code. I tried to see if I could add it afterwards but no dice.

This game is far more enjoyable when you remember that it's still an alpha. If you ever have questions, the player base is generally overly helpful. Just ask in game and someone will likely answer your questions.

@@dusty052187 I am a programmer myself, so am well aware of bugs :) Actually I am having a lot of fun. I died a few times, usually because I didn't get something. For example, I thought I was heading into the sun and couldn't see where I was going and crashed and burned. As it turned out I had my flashlight on and it was reflecting off the HUD. I'm now an ex-con after being incarcerated for trespassing. I've been fined for landing without proper permissions. I was down to 1000 credits, then started making money doing deliveries, which became profitable once I figured my way around a bug. Now I've rented a ROC and trying to mine a bit, but the first time I was attacked and needed to fend off a hostile, then I found a good load only to be unable to mine, I think I may have been in an armistis zone but not sure I didn't have a gun on. I think I will be happy if I can get back to my starting currency :)

@@slipperson5608 Hi, Roc mining is quite buggy atm, once you have the money it'll be far more profitable to rent a Prospector and mine quantainium in the Iron Halo. Also, to avoid pirates it's a good idea to farm quite far away from outposts, it'll make it quite harder for them scanning the area to look for preys.

@@davidhonnay1540 Thank you for the tip. I finally mined a bit and paid for the rental, plus now have about 50k. I am thrilled. When I started I got the Nomad starter because it mentioned mining and defense. Happily I discovered it can carry a ROC (although at the time I didn't know what a ROC was). I may back up and try hand mining before moving onto ship mining. I can now afford a mining suit. I don't want to spend too much time earning money in case they do a reset with 3.17 which seems to be coming soon.

@@CramcrumBrewbringer I never said it was as good as Sea of Thieves.. this game is far buggier and toxic than sea of thieves, just that it's similar in the fact that it's frustrating and overwhelming to get in to, but when you play it alot it becomes more fun and interesting. Sea of Thieves is one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played with a super friendly community. Even when you get attacked and sunk by "toxics" it's genuinely funny to watch people play music and snipe you from the water as their ship sails into the horizon.
