When I actually watched your videos though, I started to appreciate them, but I still never thought of them as singular. This video really changes my mind about you. About the minecraft marketplace section, it is sadly notoriously known (at least in the modded scene) for often completely enabling people to profit off work or ideas that are not theirs and never done with permission from the original creators of said projects while microsoft, mojang or whoever the team handling the marketplace side are, typically do absolutely nothing about it
A friend that is doing marketplace textures told me how she takes skins from namemc, merges them together, and sells for thousands of dollars without stress. Without going into much detail, the marketplace degenerated severely as more and more "profit before ethics" teams popped on. Edit: Wanted to mention that Mojang does care about this but they are powerless since this is a community wide trend
@@StefanDeleanu The multi-billion dollar corporation is powerless to control what goes on their digital store front? With all due respect, that's ridiculous. It's more than possible for them to more strictly scrutinize what goes on the Marketplace. They just don't care because they get a cut of the profits as well.
@@lancelikessause they can't scan the whole internet for free textures or skins and make sure thst skins or textures are original. They can ban direct copies, but if you just put a smart filter on top of it most times it will be enough to trick that. Also, the huge amount of content pushed on the market in regards to textures is difficult to deal with. I feel they can do way more than they do right now, but it's best to look for solutions, not blame.
As someone who's hobby is in a creative field, I can confirm that *proper crediting and ownership is EVERYTHING* to someone who works in said creative fields. It's the lifeblood that draws in more people who might want to work with you, and spread your name further in a good light. Don't try and take credit and sell something you don't own, people. Because whether you like it or not, a DMCA or a legal lawsuit aimed right at you might just be how it ends.
Some people take advantage of this though. Some sue people for playing two notes in their own original music, claiming that that note progression is their intellectual property. In summary, just dont be an asshole and respect the intellectual properties of others. And dont be unreasonable trying to claim absolutely every little thing that might just be due to coincidence
If anyone would ask me for resource packs or skins, I would flood his chat of sources and informations. Maybe it's excessive, but I think it's better than not crediting. Because I know the sufference of getting your credits stolen and I don't want anyone to feel it.
You know for all your talk about proper crediting and ownership you're missing an important realization. Faithful doesn't have intellectual property rights. It's just a resolution change of Mojang's default texture pack. There is no way it's different enough to even warrant a claim of ownership. You can't claim something as yours just because you touched up the visual qualify. It's still the same texture pack as what Mojang made, just with a slightly different resolution. The fact that Faithful is just a resolution change of the base game's texture renders this entire video pointless.
I knew a moderator on faithful and he told me he was always suspicious of Vizzy. He never gave proof that he had permission to update the pack and I'm very happy that he got caught. I hope legal action is taken against him for these last couple years.
@@BlackDragonDCR Ant mainly calls him Vizzy as that's what he has gone by for years, but now his Vizzy username is gone from every Faithful related site/post he has and officially changed to Kraineff or his real name.

Had to revisit this video while looking for a copy of Faithful to try out since I could remember that the pack had been stolen, but couldn't remember any more details than that. It's nice to have access to a resource like this at times.
Wow, great work! That was very thorough. The whole situation is much clearer now, thanks for making an explanation for it. I was working on keeping Faithful 32x up to date with modern Bedrock versions (I mostly worked on missing UI textures), back before it had to be taken down in early 2019. I was sharing it on MCPEDL so other players could use it also, and the team at MCPEDL let me know that xMrVizzy required all Faithful packs had to be taken down, because of the new copyright. It's a shame that's what happened, but I am relieved that the right things are happening now! 😎

i was in the faithful discord when this stuff happened with mrvizzy coming back and kicking people out a year ago and i proceeded to download compliance’s packs, join their discords, and vote on some of their textures, however after getting more into the minecraft speedrunning community, where texture packs have rules and faithful is a gray area (not to mention optimal game performance is key and increasing texture resolution is not good for this), i sort of lost track of it all. i’m in the compliance discord still but have never checked it. i knew vizzy was a bad person from his response to the “democratic” work on the pack but had no idea that he blatantly stole it. wow. this does just make me even more impressed with what compliance did though, rebuilding the pack over time from the ground up for every single texture in minecraft. thank you for covering this from someone who used to be a massive texture pack nerd and still sometimes dabbles in them. i’m really glad to see an update on this situation as well as a happy ending and i will definitely update my resource packs for when i play minecraft more casually

Ugh, Vizzy being Russian explains a lot. Trademarks are granted on first claiming in Russia, even if there's proof someone else made the IP. If he's filed a trademark there is an extremely long and one sided legal battle ahead. SCP Russia is currently going through the same thing. Markiplier made a good summary video on this event as well.
Trademarks are not generally international, they are country specific (there are international variations of the process, but those also would not be impacted by Russian specific issues).
@@error.418 Well, firstly, you must be real fun parties. Secondly, if you want to go the route of Ackchyually, then I should point out that the joke in the SeriousNorbo's comment was made on my/our meme template, which originally features USSR flag and thus associated with communism. And thirdly, the definition of Russia's current political system (good job copying it from Wikipedia btw) has indeed nothing to do with the joke, the only reason it's connected with the situation in any way, is their shitty copyright laws, which allow things like the one in the video and the other with scp foundation to happen.
Speaking for the Russian community, I am so sorry this hideous incident happened. I am utterly disappointed that our community is portrayed in such a terrible light ... again. I fully support Vattic and the people who contributed to this journey. I hope the action will be taken and Vizzy will get what he deserves!
Agreed. I am sad to say this isn't the first time outliers in the Russian community have done this. Mostly the SCP vs SCP Russia dispute comes to mind. As an American, we have had our fair share of Intellectual thief, but sadly the Russians get a bad rap, because of how the legal framework in Russia actually works in reality I wish you well comrade, and wish you good luck.
As a member of Russian community, I've got a theory... Nobody does something just to be bad, every time - there is a reason. Russia as a country is awful, from economy side and life here in general. If you're not living in Moscow or other big central city, you're destined to work slave hours and get paid lowest amount possible. And the worst is that it's very hard to get off that loop. It's hard to get a life if you're in this situation. I am myself in that loop right now and pesperately trying to fand a way to leave this place. So it might be something that is going on with them too and they decided to go that way, but I can't tell if it's true or not, it's just something that came into my mind. And I also can't stay silent about the problem itself. Anyways, have a great day, ya'll.
@@Night_Stary I'm not Russian myself, but, is it true that the legal system (as in, copy rights and stuff) in Russia works in "odd ways"? I've heard about it so many times, and I've always been curious.

It’s interesting. Everyone always says “It’s not worth it” or “Don’t bother”. But for an event of this scale, all I can really say is, “How can one know it’s not worth it? Has someone tried?”
@@Junniebug Sadly this is true. But RUclips has their reasons but personally I only hope Vizzy at least has to refund everyone their money and compensate the original creator for damages.
Stealing from a homeless guy to sell his stuff for a quick buck is one of the most depressing things I've heard in a while. Makes that insanely high price even more scummy. And it's not like these things ever make a ton of money, but it could be the difference between _having food_ or not.
Sounds like Capitalism, steal from the poor to make the rich richer, and it being taken by a Russian of all people from a British man adds to the irony. Miss the age of Mojang where they were strict on people not being allowed to sell game aspects such as textures/mods or in-game items.
Well, it's still not been purged off marketplace, which is surprising. Stolen pack even has 4+ stars reviews. I'm surprised at least DMCA was not issued.
@@LayJD_ it takes 20 minutes to find "report copyright infringement" for Minecraft marketplace. It takes nothing to do with legal actions that can be done in parallel. So... Was the complaint filed and Microsoft/mohjang response varied from none to "we want legal papers from the court pl0x" or лох это судьба and complaint was not filed at all? Because if it the latter then it is hilarious.
Even if this story is kinda sad, I'm very happy because I finally have an answer to a question that I had almost 6 years ago when 1.9 released: where's the Faithful texture pack? If it wasn't for this video I would still have absolutely no idea. Thank you for covering this Venom
This video is important not just to those involved with Faithful, but to all Minecraft texture artists. Hell, I would even say it goes further than that--that it is important to all Minecraft content creators and those creators outside of Minecraft as well.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I know it is not known or technically released but as someone who has worked on a resource pack for 2 years now mainly for personal use I could not possibly imagine having my entire pack stolen. I am completely disgusted that my resource pack used vizzys faithful as a foundation, mainly being the file names for textures. I look forward to a future where vattics faithful rules supreme!
The thing about Russian copyright/trademark is it isn’t apart of the global market, that’s why there is a Starbucks chain not owned by Starbucks in Russia and why someone put a request for a Copyright on all SCP related stories/images
@@abj136 yes, but also not really, you can't tell for sure. Many places actually acknowledge Russian trademark registration as legitimate without any doubt, it's only Russians who actually know how badly the system is broken here will question it. Google, for example, will happily follow a takedown request based on trademark infringement, they won't check if it was legitimate or not: was approved in Russia? Must be legit. This was abused so many times already. So if Microsoft does acknowledge Russian trademarks and such, welp, here's your answer to how fake Faithful got to the Store.

Well, this is the first I've heard of it. But, Vizzy's response to his own team makes it very easy to hate on the guy. Ant, thanks for investigating and going through all the due diligence of a professional journalist to make this announcement as detailed and accurate as possible.
Also Vizzy messed up the last message because "пак" in russian that meant to sound like "pack" got messed up by Google translate so it became "пакет" or "packet"/"package"
I always thought that faithful is just a successful pack, but I never knew that there is such a big story behind it. It would have been interesting to know why Vaticc Disappeared, but I respect his privacy
whenever I needed a version of Faithful, I always use FaithfulVenom as I felt that the original Faithful was stolen and reprinted endlessly after having a hard time finding an updated source from the original upload page. Hearing all of this, I am so glad I stuck with your version when it comes to Faithful, as I felt like I avoided supporting someone who took the opportunity to steal the most recognized texturepack and selfishly used it for fame and profit.
Great vid and so nostalgic too, Vizzy saying “NO DEMOCRACY” is such a hilariously stereotypical Russian thing to do. (also compliAnt made me laugh too)
I feel like Vizzy continued the project without malintent at first (maybe for a bit of internet fame) but when money got involved things change very quickly :/
Probably felt entitled to profits precisely because he felt he was the reason it survived through the updates. Also likely why he lost it when it was demonstrated that he wasn’t needed to keep updating the pack. I think faithful was popular enough that someone else would’ve stepped up to keep it updated even if he hadn’t (I’ve just started dabbling in resource packs for the first time in the last month and I’d still heard of faithful back in the day). They may have made more of an effort to try and reach out to vassic, been more communicative and collaborative with the team working to create new textures, and honest with the community who had to put some faith in their word b/c the og creator was mia. The what if’s are endless, but the point is that he overvalued his contributions by quite a bit.
I'm shocked and disheartened to hear how this turned out, especially having recently gotten back into Minecraft and had come looking for texture packs from old times...I just wow... Also holy hell...Malluk coming out and being an absolute team player

An Antvenom video on my birthday? What more could I ask for! I remember back in 2012, everyone used faithful. Every youtuber you saw would use faithful. I truly was Minecraft's "Default 2" pack
I have one thing to say: Lmao. "Okay. Now this pack is yours!", this sounds like an AI generated quote I never really like Faithful (not so big on upscaling Minecraft's textures, I feel 16x16 has it's charm) but I may support the alternatives however I can now lol
Honestly it was hella suspicious that it was removed from mcpedl then added to the marketplace despite having been free on bedrock and Java prior, it was a really nice pack so it was a shame to see it wasn’t free on BR anymore, I couldn’t get the free Java version to port to bedrock back in those days either since I didn’t know how, hope these MP scammers who didn’t even use the 64x or 128x when charging 8 dollars get what’s comming
I hope that the original packs of Compliance and Emulated Vattic continue after merging. Having more options are always nice. They could get away with it via creating addon packs, though.
AntVenom! Holy crap dude. To be honest I haven't been subbed for a few years because I lost interest in Minecraft, but this content is incredible. The production quality is immaculate - it's always great to re-discover a channel and see how it has evolved over the years. Definitely re-subbing for more of this content and because of fond memories hunting the golden apple! Happy hunting!
I kinda feel bad for Vissy, because the only thing he had to do to not be in this mess is to not pretend that he owned Faithful. Yet, he became greedy and took and sold it for himself.

About the minecraft marketplace section, it is sadly notoriously known (at least in the modded scene) for often completely enabling people to profit off work or ideas that are not theirs and never done with permission from the original creators of said projects while microsoft, mojang or whoever the team handling the marketplace side are, typically do absolutely nothing about it
This was obvious the moment the Marketplace was announced.
@@StefanDeleanu Powerless? All it would take the Marketplace team would be to not greenlight hot garbage onto the store.

Welcome back vattic. Your pack is legendary and can't wait to see what you will do

I kinda feel bad for Vissy, because the only thing he had to do to not be in this mess is to not pretend that he owned Faithful. Yet, he became greedy and took and sold it for himself.
Exactly. When he crossed the line into profiting off somebody else’s project name and textures WITHOUT their permission is when I called foul.
revisiting this video is weird. As an original user of the "Faithful" texture, I hope that the proper legal action was taken. I had made a reply here a year ago, but that was on an old account. Still glad Vattic is around
Glad I was able to talk to you before you left Faithful
And yes, I 100% support community projects. I am only mod there because I applied, thinking they had a shortage! I have known about this for about a month and I'm glad it's finally released!
After AntVenom mention Vizzy getting crazy with power in discord...
it's a Certified Bruh Moment
Dude, I remember watching so many Minecraft RUclipsrs use the Faithful texture pack, but I never realized how deep the story was.
_Faithful texture pack lore:_
It was kind of funny how you said "The story would take a turn for the worst..." followed immediately by the text "The Minecraft Marketplace", lol
