I always struggle to build up a good pub bike, it has to be sturdy enough that you trust it to get you home safely but at the same time cheap enough that you're not bothered if it gets nicked.(often after forgetting you rode it to the pub in the first place). I do like a pub bike to be closer to the ground though, it helps when you encounter those inevitable perpendicular incidences with the ground.
I had anti theft skewers and forgot the key on my solo bikepacking trip and fought flats the whole way! Very thankful for tubeless and plugs to keep me rolling. Even used my tape from my first aid to tape in the last plug which held like dream! Trashed the skewers as soon as I got home!
From the shape of the frame lugs it's probably a Falcon Black Diamond, and the foil head badge dates it from the late 70s to mid-80s (depending on whether it says "Falcon" or "Designed by Ernie Clements" at the bottom). Nice bike, not fancy, but nice.
Glorious build. I greased my square taper before my 50km charity ride and guess what, it worked loose 5km from the end and the only tool I wasn’t carrying was the crank bolt spanner. Switched to clean and an Allen bolt now. Love the ride footage.
I'm planing a build in my head. I want to go get a Fram from the local bike charity and put some sort of cruiser bars on. To keep thing clean and simple I a 3 speed hub with coaster brake and as little clutter as possible. I live in a bit of a valley so I feel I need to gears to get up and out of my neighborhood
I would have got rid of the frame rust and then lacquered it, sprayed the pedals black, used a black cable outer, black grips and used a matching set of brakes - guess which colour. I like what you did though.
Love love love these Fixed/SS vintage builds. Keep it coming, man. How do you know which bottom bracket and crankset to use? I tried building one once and ended up using multiple spacers to get the chainring lined up😂 -not the best, but it worked!
Cool bike! I've got an 80's Schwinn Traveller (huge, not aesthetically pleasing frame) that I want to convert to something similar. Though I think I will try and do a 1x drivetrain just because there's some longer stretches on the commute that it'd be nice to get a bit of speed. Love this bike 🤌
Hey man, that was my first road bike, 86 schwinn traveler, 8 years older than myself! I’m sure you’ve already tinkered with it, but if you are interested in single speed conversion, the 80s era traveler is a damn fine frame to do so. I swapped out the old 27s for 700c wheels with no problems whatsoever and threw on some 35c (37-622) tires and I couldn’t have been more happy with how well it worked. Unfortunately I was too tickery in my time with it and cold set the rear triangle too much and separated the brake bridge, yes I rode it like that for a bit but man, it was a squirmy ride.
Hey, I’m starting a build like this and I’ve been told I should put a chain tensioner on to prevent the wheel moving in the drop outs, mine will be a single speed not a fixed gear, do you think it’s necessary? I noticed this build doesn’t have a tensioner!
Is it true that almost everything on someone's bicycle can be modified? Like you can turn a single-speed bicycle perhaps to a mountain bike or racing multi-geared bike?
This bike was really easy to assemble ruclips.net/user/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
Just found your channel brother Rad Stache!!! ***Do you know if your mate ever crashed on it? I don't know if its just the camera angle but the top and downtube looked slightly tweaked right at the headtube.
Wow just seeing this out of the box ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.
I don't like single speed bikes. It makes no sense for me. I want to have some gears to go up and down hill. I guess people just want to look cool on singles.
I look cool without the single speed 😉 but in all seriousness like T66 says it’s the simplicity. That and I’m using it in a pretty flat city. My geared bikes stay in one gear for my commute so single speed in my case makes so much sense.
Looks like the perfect pub bike. No gears to worry about when you are pished
Cycling half cut is my favourite extreme sport

Stache and Buzzed hair looks great! I love when people take old bicycles and give them new life.
Love bringing old bikes back to life! Got a couple I’ve done, it’s great! Thanks for sharing
I like the lugs on the older steel frames.
Great bike build, simple, does the job. The all black rims and tyres look the part and I like the aged patina and buffed out bare metal.
Dawn power wash works good and you can refill it cheaply using any dish soap water and rubbing alcohol
Sweet man love the bike! Gets me every time rear brake lever on the left 😅😊
Just did one up like this. A BSA Champion. Love that center-pull Weinman. It cleaned up nice. I'd steal that bike.

Its better to have a front brake, if you ride only with one brake. Much better braking power and the rim lasts longer, because it stays cleaner.
Try breaking mid turn with front brake only see how fun it is.
This is like spindatt in london. I am south london born and bred and love old bikes. Good stuff keep it rollin'a

I really enjoyed this film, loved the fact you used all the old suff, and made such a a great job of this bike.
1 year ago you had 10k followers on IG and now you are at nearly 40k... GOOD JOB!

Very nice! I’ve got an old Dawes touring bike from the 60’s I should do that with.
It’s so much fun!
Great project! Nice editing - and I really like your choice of music.
I would polish and try to bring out what's left of the paint job. Nice video!
Thanks man. I like the crust on this bike but I definitely think I might try.
I love your channel and vintage bikes. Wish I could fix a puncture lol

You measure, and you choose the right spindle length. It’s sometimes easier said than done though!
It's weird, they didn't come with them, but my falcon also had that seat when I got it
i love the bike but im confused as to why you forgot the seat

Sounds great, it’s the only problem with this build. It’s perfect nipping around the city but on my commute (a straight line) it’s less fun.

I’m dying to see it fixed gear 😮💨

Beautiful.
Why use the frame at this point? The rust seems a problem
Looks great!
Cheers 🍻
Cool bike great video sorry what bars/stem is that am looking for similar to tidy up my no logo!
Nice work!
What grips did you use
you should make this one a fixed gear
freewheel with one brake? why not fixed?

Awesome build! What are your sunglasses in the ride sequence?
Awesome video mate. Tell me about the wheels. also how much did this cost you?
love it before ive seen it!!
I like it.
🙏🏼
Spot on
Not a single speed fan but dope build you did there. Keep it up!
Excellent! Is this beast still rolling?
what did you film the ride footage with?
Just found your channel brother Rad Stache!!! ***Do you know if your mate ever crashed on it? I don't know if its just the camera angle but the top and downtube looked slightly tweaked right at the headtube.
Hello! I have a question - can you put a front shock absorber on such a build?
No need to grease a square taper spindle - they’re friction fit so adding that grease reduces that friction. Not good.
Always grease any steel+aluminium contact surfaces to avoid galvanic corrosion. The screw is what keeps them toguether anyways.
Banger - as always 💪 Only one question tho, when’s the specialized build coming! 😂
I’ve been waiting on parts and then I changed my mind on the parts and waited again but! It’s coming! 🤣
@@2NDLIFEBIKES you weren’t kidding!
When you going to do some fixed gear conversions?
Good question. I have a couple frames that may work so watch this space 🙌🏼
Linda bike saludos desde Argentina!0
What is the name of the track at the end of the video?
Purchased for family member.
Love the channel. The rear seat reflector we’re did you find it or do you sell them ?
Thanks Chris! I got the reflector from this account instagram.com/nekocycles_?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Thanks
Thank you so much! 🫶🏼
can someone help me ? What is a Pub Bike ?
Which wheels are these?
how did you put that stem with that fork?
I used a stem converter like this one amzn.to/3UrHHDQ
Maybe i missed it, but what wheelset did you go with?
Don’t think I mentioned it. Gipiemme Pista Clincher Track Wheelset - 700c
@@2NDLIFEBIKES Thanks!
The name of a headset ?
What’s the adapter called
Did you figure it out?
If you ride a bike to get drunk in a pub, then it is better to choose a three-wheeled model! Ha-ha🙂
Nice looking bike! Where did you ride it after the build?
It was my home town. Weston Super Mare. It looks great in the summer. Shit the rest of the year hahaha
@@2NDLIFEBIKES did look nice, the bike looked better! 👌
Bloody awesome, yes :-)
Thank you!! 🙌🏼
