    Whilst this video is not a panacea for depression, lockdown blues, not getting laid since November and tinnitus, it certainly made me feel a fuckton better. Very hypnotic and soothing and has inspired me to build my own bike so, you know, thanks very much.

    Metal on metal always needs grease. Whoever restores that bike in ten years time will never get the parts apart again. Think about the future when you restore! Very nice bike.

    You made it look so easy to brush the paint off :O!
    It took us days! The metal wires would fly off the brush and sting us and get stuck in our clothes (kinda painful actually :D)
    To get the paint off of two bikes, we went through a number of these grinder's brushes... We also used sand blasting with air compressors for the small corners, but that was slooow. The sand would regularly form blocks in the 'gun' and we had to reload the 'sand gun' for every couple of square centimeters of paint it took off the frame...

    • @Raphson
      @Raphson  4 года назад +4

      Hey! Yeah I have to confess that I did not do justice to the process of removing the paint. It is for a reason that the small corners were spraypainted black by us hahaha. I have done sandblasting in the past which worked pretty neat but indeed, it is a pain to do this properly. My cameraman has done an entire frame by hand though. And by hand I mean with sanding paper, no powertools!!!

    Awesome video, thanks for posting! This bike looks a lot like my 1970's Raleigh 10-speed. I recently stripped it down, meaning to rebuild it in its original form, but after watching your video, I'm thinking of turning it into a fixed-gear bike. That would be so much fun! One question: where do you get a wheel that has a fixed cog on one side and freewheel on the other? And do you have to do anything special to get the chain to align correctly when replacing a gear cluster with a fixed/free cog?

    • @Raphson
      @Raphson  4 года назад +1

      Hey! Awesome that you have been inspired by the video! That kind of wheels are called flip flop wheels, or wheels with a flip flop hub. I got mine online second hand for like 10 euros, since the paint was really crappy. But it works and that is what is important for me. The alignment of the chain is important yes, I did not have to do anything for this one, but sometimes you do want to play around with spacers or the wheel bearings to make it align more properly.
