      @7878 stew wrong fiction man, we're talking about Tolkien's legendarium. There are plenty of other videos on RUclips addressing your fictional books about heaven, hell, talking snakes, possessed pigs, and water based magic tricks.

    • @michaeldriggers7681
      @michaeldriggers7681 5 лет назад +14

      @7878 stew yeah people claim that kind of experience all over the world, from all kinds of religious backgrounds. Muslims claim to witness the works of Allah, Catholics claim it with the Virgin Mary, Hindus claim to witness or experience their various gods, Mormons claim it, Protestants claim it. All religions claim some sort of supernatural experience. Scientists have reproduced similar experiences by attaching electrodes to people's heads. For me, faith requires more than old writings, warm fuzzy feelings, and coincidence. If you aren't here to discuss Tolkien's amazing fictional world and want to discuss a far less entertaining fictional book that you inexplicably think is real, please go elsewhere. I think there are some Harry Potter videos that are in need of some superstitious bullshit in their comments section. Remember the popularity of an idea has no influence on the credibility of an idea, just because you want something to be true doesn't mean it is.

    Tree Beard gave the best description of Lothlorien and hinted how it was fading. It's interesting that the Ents had knowledge of the Land of singing gold.
    Also, I always thought the water of Galadriel reminded me of the Palantiri and how those looking in could see the past and long distance and even a little of the future.

      There is a life to the Olvar (flora) that is often not so apparent to we members of the second children of Eru Iluvatar. The first children understood this better. The trees talk, in their way, to each other, perhaps even over great distances. And, of course, the trees talk to the Ents. Just a hypothesis.

    • @vixendoe2545

    Ahh lothlorien, the scary more beautiful older sister of Rivendell
    Definitely would have wanted to visit this place and see the mirror for myself and hear the lament the Gandalf being sung through the trees

      Scary? No. Exotic, certainly, by comparison to our everyday experience, but not scary. People (including dwarfs) have the unfortunate habit of fearing what they do not understand, but that does not mean that it must be so. Look at how Gimli's mind and heart changed when he actually experienced Lothlorien and it's Lady.

    I always thought that through the ring's power Galadriel kept an echo of the light of the two trees of Valinor in Lothlorien. Or that maybe that Lothlorien was somehow linked to the older days and that's why the stars seem different to Sam and Frodo and they lose their sense of time during their stay.
    And when, after the destruction of the one ring, the power of Galdriel's is lost she remarks that this is truly the end of the times of the elves in middle earth.

    Once there was the great Golden Wood as bright as the sun.
    Alive it was with the golden hair of its Fair Lady.
    But one day the great evil ring passed through its shadows.
    The great lady refused its temptation and left to diminish.
    And thus the golden light began to fade like evening had come.
    Sleep.... The Golden Wood slowly went to sleep.
    But not all its beauty was gone forever.
    Because there's yet still a green hill covered in flowers.
    The great fair lady's granddaughter sleeps there forever.
    A testament to the ages of long long ago.
    Before the day comes when the world is wrought asunder,
    Lothlórien, the great Golden Wood, shall death never truly plunder!

    I think I like the LotR version of events whereby it is heavily implied Galadriel actually *created* the Mallorn herself. "I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew.." I think the nuts being brought from the West is a later clarification (or re-considering) on Tolkien's part, maybe not comfortable with having granted that Power to one of the Firstborn--for according to the mythology/metaphysics of Middle Earth etc it should really be reserved to the One. I guess it can be made to work either way, and is sadly beautiful regardless. Great vid, as always. Thanks.

I loved the three movies but wish that peter Jackson had not chosen to change the story, especially Faramir's story. Faramir was never tempted to take the ring to his father and changing the story like that is a total perversion of his character. It was NOT necessary to advance his story but totally changed Tolkien's story of Faramir.

    Yoystan, I'm afraid I must correct you on something in this video. At 12:01:
    "Thranduil held the forest north of the Narrows and to the mountains, and Celeborn took what was south of the Narrows and called it 'East Lórien'."
    You have described Celeborn's portion correctly; but Thranduil's Woodland Realm became the portion _North_ of the Mountains.
    The portion in the middle -- from the Mountains in the North to the Narrows in the South -- was given to the Wood-men.
    (It was mighty kingly of Thranduil to hook up his human friends like that. I always wondered what name the Wood-men gave to their portion.)

      @donweatherwax9318 3 года назад

      Incidentally, in the unlikely event you end up re-doing that portion of the video, I think you should update Amdír's picture.
      I prefer the one Tolkien Gateway uses for Amdír, by the artist "ElfinFen":
      tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Amdir
      I wish I could recommend a better image of Amroth. IMO, no one has really captured him yet. The only halfway decent pic of Amroth I've ever seen is the one used on Italian Tolkienpedia:
      lotr.fandom.com/it/wiki/Amroth

    I get the feeling that Lothlorien was meant to the “true” home of the Elves in ME, and Rivendell an outpost in contrast, but the films made them look the opposite with Rivendell being so much grander and larger and more majestic that I can’t help feel that should be the more exclusive and more revered by the Elves.
    Or maybe you have to be one of the Eldar to properly appreciate it. :P

      You apparently didn't understand that you can't see the city, through the trees in Lorien.
      Rivendell most definitely showed provincial life, rivendell did not build homes in trees. Like the Elves of Lothlorian.

      Films missed the mark with Lothlorian in my opinion, but the extended edition felt a little more like the book

    • @michaeldriggers7681
      @michaeldriggers7681 5 лет назад +4

      I think Rivendell was grand in the movies yes, but lothlorien had a different look and feel. Lothlorien felt ethereal and Elven in a unique way. The lighting, the trees and the architecture being one thing and not separate, it felt and looked like a magical place, a place that was not and could not be made by men or dwarves. A place protected and preserved by Elven magic akin to the Girdle of Melian in the first age.

      In the movies lorien felt much more magical and ethereal that rivendell. You cant even compare. Sure rivendell is beautiful, but lorien is something else entirely

    At 8:55 you mention that Gandalf received a new staff. I was not aware of that and can think of no reference to base that on. I can see how he might have lost it battling Durin's Bane. But he did keep Glamdring. Good thing the Eagle had the good sense to bring it with when he picked up Gandalf and brought him to Lothlorien.

    “Came there never again as living man”. Such a peculiar turn of phrase. Was Tolkien suggesting that Aragorn came back after death for Arwen when she laid herself down on Cerin Amroth? Always thought it would be lovely if he did come back to guide her to wherever humans go to...

    You should make a video on the speculation of which charectors from the second age do you think will and might make it into the Amazon Middle Earth tv show . And guess who do you think that these photos of the newer actors that Amazon released that you think they can play as . It would be very interesting . Since you know alot of the charectors and what they might look like the most .

    Does anyone ever think about Lorien after the Elves had left (around the time of Arwen’s journey back). If I were in Middle Earth.. I’d love to go there and setup home - knowing that it may not be as beautiful as it once was.. just to be a man seeing a place that in my head still held majesty ☺️

    Hi... I’ve read all of Tolkien works dozens of times..... One of the things that is barely mentioned are Giants - in fact I think they were only directly mentioned by Gandalf in the Hobbit (Peter Jackson took that to a ridiculous cartoon level) - I always assumed that it was allegorical. I understood Trolls to have been perverted from Ents. Maybe Giants did exist at one point... maybe used by the Valar in the initial construction of Arda? Would this be a good idea for a future video?

    All these vids that I'm watching learning about this information and of course hearing about Christopher Tolkiens death made me finally want to get Beren and Luthien and Fall of Gondolin AND The Children of Hurin . All hardcovers that I ordered from Amazon . It may have cost 100 dollars ( Canadian ) but can't wait for it . Just ordered them yesterday and 2 are coming tommarow and Beren and Luthien are coming around Thursday or Friday . Since I have the Silmarillion , all three lord of the rings books and the hobbit book and book of Unfinished Tales and even got the Atlas of Middle Earth . I'm trying to get as much information as I can . And getting ready for the future of middle earth . Like the new tv show coming possibly late 2020 or 2021 . Also do you own the 2012 copy of The Complete Tolkien companion ? If so can you tell what's different in that book ? Does it have like more in depth maps or different alphabet systems of the languages ? I'm thinking of getting it . But not sure if it's worth like 30 to 40 bucks . Love your content .

    Lothororien or Imladris? I become weary of all this either/or noise when there is AND. Both are wonderful (that is, inspiring a sense of wonder) in their unique ways: Imladris is the last homey house east of the Sea and Lothlorien is the Golden Wood. Different, perhaps, but that does not require some ill conceived ranking of importance. Rejoice in both.
