- Moria or Khazad-dûm is the grandest of all dwarven kingdoms, and despite the many disputes it has gone through, something about our own humanity may be found within these halls of stone. Thank you all for watching, I really appreciate it! Let me know your thoughts on the video in the comments below!

In the Fellowship of the Ring, Tolkien writes the Watcher hailed from deep under the mountain and was pushed out by a greater evil. It was to foreshadow the Balrog.
Larry Froncek Oh very interesting! Thanks for letting me know!
Ya I just read that part again. Kinda crazy
I would LOVE to have a detailed map of Moria of every level.
+Edwin Potter The supplement "Moria: The Dwarven City" published by Iron Crown Enterprises in 1984 has a LOT of maps of various Levels and Deeps (Levels being those areas above the main thoroughfare of Durin's Way, and Deeps being those areas below it.)
Here you go friend:

start playing mume.org ...its a free mudgame based on tolkiens middle-earth...you can walk in moria there
its an online game that is built up only with text and no graphics...you see a text for each room you move into and actions done in the room rool in real time...its quite advanced when you dig into it but can aslo be enjoyed just scratching the surfice of it...i do recomend that you check it out if you love tolkien
Are you going there for vacation or something? lol I kid I kid
"And they call it a mine...! *A MIIIIIIINE...! RAAAAAAAAAAWGHHHH...!"*
This isn't a mine, its a tomb!
"We should have never came here"
Now get out, GET OUT!!!
"They have a cave troll!"
Fly you fools
"Dark is the water of Kheled-zâram, and cold are the springs of Kibil-nâla, and fair were the many-pillared halls of Khazad-Dûm in Elder Days before the fall of mighty kings beneath the stone." - Galadriel to Gimli
Yes.
I like Dwarfs, happy they got their home back. Wish they would make another movie based around them. Lord of The Rings: The retaking of Moria would be an ideal movie title I'd like to see :D
The War in the North would also make a good movie. I want to see the men/dwarf alliance along with battle of the forest against Orcs and Easterlings.
That would definitely sound like a cool idea, if pulled off properly. I would check it out as well as a War in the North movie as well.
they represent jewish people
@Aung Un'Rama Yes!
@@odin1313That was by coincidence Tolkien said in an interview
I have read and heard the story of Khazad Dum so many times now, and it never gets old.
I dont know why, but i feel at times that the dwarves have had the worst streak of luck, and that they always lose what is most precious to them. It is a sad story, but a very very good one. Love the dwarves!
The Elves have been thru it too, especially the great elves. So much loss.
Legend has it Smaug went in there and saw the balrog and said " oh pardon me I'll be leaving now, goodbye" and then left for erebor
Smaug: "I am Fire! I am Death!"
Balrog, Durin's-Bane: "Hello there."
Smaug: "......understandable. Have a nice day. I'll show myself out."
Get your own dwarven kingdom buddy!
😂
@Kabir Chattopadhyay is it bad I read the Balrogs hello there in obi wans voice
Amazing! Being a Tolkien fan myself, it is not much that I hear the stories for the first time here. It is the manner upon which the stories are presented. I just love the fact that you treat Tolkien's legacy with the level of respect and admiration that it rightly deserves.
I'm glad to see that you guys enjoy the video! I wanted to correct myself on a detail. Pippin throws a bucket while in Balin's Tomb in the movie, but a loose stone in the book during the company's stay in the Chamber of the Crossroads, far from Balin's Tomb. Whether this stone in turn caused the coming of the orcs upon the company is more speculated than I had thought! Sorry about that! Also, just a fun fact for you all, the Two Trees outside on the two sides of the Doors of Durin represent the Two Trees of Valinor and their splendor! Another fact that is pretty interesting, is that Durin's Crown is also made of Seven Stars, just like all the other motifs of seven! As always, thank you all for your support!
Men of the West I have a request, how would Gollum/Smeagol be after the one ring is destruction if they survived?
Also, really enjoy your content, keep up the good work!
Zach Varnadore Thank you! I believe Gollum would've lived the rest of his life in some agony, but died in more peace than he felt in a long time. Eventually old age would catch him. Great question!
Wonder if he elves would have allowed him passage into Valinor, him being perhaps the foremost mortal ringbearer (still with some semblance of his true self). Smeagol surely had some wounds to heal so that he could die peacefully!
Great video and I look forward to your watcher in the water video, ever since I saw the first movie when I was eight, It was out for quite a while by then, I have always wondered abut that creature.
Thank you so much for this video. The Dwarves are my favorite in Tolkien's books . The underground cities hold mystery ,ruins, treasure and stories that became legends and folklore to some. I always dreamed of coming across a cave that lead to an ancient city and I would re-light the torches and clean it up and find treasure and great machines that would use waterfalls and streams to power gates and forges and other old devices ..sometimes I still daydream about it ..silly, I know but its fun and to read about it is the best! Moria and Lonely Mountain are great I wish there were more info and descriptions of the glittering caves after Gimli was done with them and all the other dwarf cities .Someday if you have time could you please do a Video of all the other Dwarf kingdoms? It would be awesome !!! Keep up the great work! :)
Not at all silly. I too imagine myself being an adventurer or explorer in a fantasy setting like Middle-Earth, fighting (and winning) against the Shadow and all it throws at the Free Peoples. That's one of the reasons why I am an RPGer... LOL
The Dwarves are also my favorite race in the Tolkien's books. From what i have learned the dwarves did not die out and that the whole race was based off of the USA during WW2.
LOVE IT. I'm so glad so many people love and appreciate Tolkien s work
Love it :) can you please do a video about the rise and beauty of mirkwood? Before it became dark and sick
so you mean greenwood
mileena Lynn Thank you! I'd love to make that video soon! :)
Men of the West I love reliving the stories on your channel...but its been so long since I read the Silmarrilion...I'd love it if you'd do a rise and fall/destruction of Beleriand. That book is a tough read on a good day and I can't recall much about Beleriand other than it went down like Atlantis. Maestro...tell me more!! 😋😁 Thanks for your work.
Oh yes I'd love to see/hear that story
you really pieced together all threads into a compelling narrative - thank you
I was 13 when i first read the hobbit, and I read it in a day. from there I read the Lord of the Rings two times in a row, and the Silmarillion at least five times in a row. This was around 1996-1998. I have since read all several times in the subsequent 20 years but it has been at least 5 since my last reading and so I thank for I have just started this incredible journey again and am looking forward to all the enjoyment of it, the adventure, the beauty, the danger, the heroics, the bravery and ultimately the sadness that I have always felt upon the completion of the journey. Thank you again.
JPatrick1983 nerd
Have read it more than fifty times in fifty years! I was eight the first time.
My favourite line from the appendices to LOTR comes after the Battle of Nanduhirion: "If this is victory, our hands are too small to hold it." I also love the pride any dwarf has in saying an ancestor was a 'burned dwarf'. Another terrific, cogent video. Keep them coming.
great video! love how they are getting longer and more detailed! thank you so much!
That is clearly the best channel on this topic by far! Thank you for making those videos and in such a good quality aswell👍👍
These videos are fantastic. Clear, concise, entertaining and informative. Thank you.
Man I just binged these videos and I regret nothing. You just gained a subscriber.
This video ended up being my favorite one so far by you man. This was extremely interesting
I love your channel so much. Your passion for the material really shows. Excellent work!
Gary? Gaaary!?
This was good Men of the West, though I want to say this, "Of all the Dwarfs, only Durin's House fought." Durin's House did fight in the War of the Last Alliance. "All living things were divided that day, and some of every kind, even of beasts and birds, were found in either host, save the Elves only. They alone were undivided and followed Gil-Galad. Of the Dwarves few fought upon either side; but the kindred of Durin of Moria fought against Sauron."
Durin's house represented pretty much all the Dwarves in the region of Middle Earth that we know, so it would be safe to say the Dwarves fought on the side of the Last Alliance.
Congrats on 20K subs!! Well done your doing so well!! Keep up the amazing vids !
Great episode man I love seeing your channel grow I remember when you had less than a thousand subs
Great video as always, keep up the good work!
This is so wonderful. Thank you. My first viewing of one of your videos.
currently binge watching all of your content :)
Just discovered your channel last night, but it's amazing! I absolutely love it and want more!
The story of Khazad Dum and its fall would make a fantastic story as the Dwarves awoke, fought and resisted the Balrog and kept trying
The passage through Moria was always a wonderful passage in LOTR
And finally reclaimed their mighty home
and then got eat
Great video! I enjoy watching these and I learn something from every video :) Keep it up!
Hey! Great video man found your channel and have just not stopped watching I've seen all of your uploads please keep going! If you could do more about the numenorians
Damn, you're getting so good at making these vids!
You make great quality videos my man. Very enjoyable to listen to while driving
IDK about GoT.. But Tolkien's work and this channel is dope. Thank you again sir
Regie Florentino As always, thank you Regie!
Regie Florentino GoT is fuckin amazing
Tolkien number 1 dude ^_^ but GoT is good.. but still Tolkien GOAT :)
Claystead you do you. I love it, you don't.
Their both great GRRM is huge fan of Tolkien they're great for different reasons
Sweeeeet!! Moria!! Great vid man, keep them coming :)
Awesome video! I love all of your videos and I think they are all very well done. I would love a video that goes in depth on Durin's line. Thank you for all you do!
Wonderful video, enjoy these so much!!!
I recently rewatched the LotR extended editions and am in the process of rereading the books and plan on reading beyond the trilogy this time. Really enjoying your videos and learning more about this world as I re-read the books for the first time in over a decade. Great work!
Best video yet, felt more fluent. A video on all the named weapons in the works could be an idea, and possibly who wielded them. Great videos, wish you could upload daily!
TheEthanEdge Thank you, and I would really enjoy making videos on the artifacts of Arda like that! I wish I could make more videos too, but each one takes about 6-8 hours to make :D
Thank you for your support!
Great piece! Only recently started loving Lord of the Rings, but channels like these just make me want to go deeper. Thank you for being my guide!
Been reading them repeatedly for more than half a century! Baruk Kahzad!
this video was amazing, can't wait to see more
love your video sir, keep up the great work
Great video! Ive been on a video binge since i discovered your channel! I'd love to see a character Biography on Gil-Galad or on the Army of dead
I just watched your Kings of Rohan video. I want to commend you on your growth as a story teller. Well done.
High Gear Thank you my friend! I'm sure I'll remake that video someday!
A restored Moria would be breathtaking to see and explore. What an adventure for the dwarves that re-entered and began the restoration. Dangerous as well since there were probably still goblins and other monsters in there to clear out. A look at the fate of Sauron's minions after the fall of Sauron would be interesting.
I hate that I did not discover your videos sooner! I love your videos! keep up the good work! I'm still going through all of your older videos just trying to get caught up lol
This guy is so pleasant and sincere it is a breath of fresh air. I love his videos
awesome channel - just discovered it and love it, keep it up :)
As always, great video. I love it when you start them with a song matching the lore, keep it up. I would like to see a video on the Celebrimbor and his life, I forgot that he was a grandson of Fëanor who is one of my favourite characters, but I despise his sons for their low deeds. I know I can find it online, but I like the style that you present it in. Always looking forward to new videos from you.
ChaosToRule Thank you, I'll see a video like that made!
As I understand it after the death of the sons of Feanor and the widespread destruction at the end of the First Age, the elves that remained were filled with remorse over all the pain and suffering that Feanor and his sons (all 7 of them) had brought about in their war with Morgoth. This was their motivation to create the 3 rings. As was stated in the conusil of Elrond, "The makers of the Three did not desire power and dominion over others, but rather healing, making and understanding, to preserve all things unstained".
Also I would like to see a video on the subject of the War of the Dwarfs and Orcs. It seems like that could use more explanation, and it's after affects.
@ChaosToRule Is Erebor mentioned in The Hobbit films?
Congrats on 20k your channel is growing so fast and you desrve each sub and view
Jaco Pgame Thank you very much!
Thank you for all of these wonderful video's! I've read the Silmarillion three times in full, then lost where a was for my fourth read so I'm starting over again. Your vids are great for refreshing my memory and there is also quite a bit of stuff I didn't know about.
Besides the Silmarillion, what would be the best book in terms of lore on Tolkiens world?
Keep up the good work!
Fantastic video man! :D
Bruh I can’t even fathom the courage it’d take to brazenly bust out badass bard bars you just vocally owned. Great video, great(er) intro lol serious props man.
Dam good show my friend. Bloody good Dam good show!
I haven't got the compliment you like this yet. You and I think geek zone and broken sword are unbelievable in your knowledge and research on these subjects. You guys are the absolute pinnacle of what you could be in my opinion.. I love your videos thank you so much
Great video - lots of quality information here for my upcoming The One Ring roleplaying game sessions. Keep up the good work.
Enjoyed this video very much!
one of your best video so far👌
could you please do thranduil
Dr. Entenfuss Thank you! I have an older video about the Elf Lord that you might enjoy!
i know, i have seen it before 10 min😂😂
The battle was one of vengeance, not to retake Moria. When Thrain tried to retake it after the victory, Durin's folk refused, citing their heavy losses and the other kindreds refused. Dain saw Durin's bane and knew it was beyond their power to retake Moria.
Great video as always 😊
Its 11/23; I’ve been a fan of yours for a couple of years now. I’m sorry to say that this is the first time I’ve seen this video. It is wonderful work. You always come up with elements I have not considered and I am a serious Tolkien fan since the late 60’s. This is the first time that I must take issue with one of your points. I really don’t think that Sauron “placed” the watcher of the lake but rather I think that the watcher was one of the nameless things and and has always been around, if not in the lake. Sauron had to have known about the Balrog as a fellow Maiar and senior servant of Melkor. So, the Watcher becomes redundant unless you flew the Watcher as a free agent though seems to be evil thus tainted by Melkor. Your scholarship regarding the Tolkien literature is truly remarkable. Please keep up the good work. Blessed be.
Great channel and great videos. With the new game coming out I'd love to see a video over Celebrimbor or the creation of all the rings
2 years later and back again.....did i just hear you actually beat your fist on the table at one point LOL love it! such passion for the dwarfs. . .
I have watched a bunch of these videos of yours about Tolkein's works and I really like how they explain things that we only have guessed at. I like history, even created history like the Tolkien wold.
I was never a fan of fantasy fiction. But after watching the Hobbit movies, and then the LOTR, it of course, brought to life the characters and made them more relatable, for lack of a better phrase, and interesting.
You make this world Tolkien created even more interesting with your researched facts on what happened and connecting the ages in a manner that gives cohesion, order and fills in the gaps.
Thanks for all your work. I really enjoy your videos.
Elizabeth Salvatore Thank you very much, I'm so glad to see that I could do that for you! :) Thank you for your support!
When you mentioned 7 being a holy or lucky number on this video...it brought great light to the conversation in the hobbit. Where they were initiating negotiation talks with Bilbo.
They referenced 13 being a wholly unlucky number, but 14 was a "fine" number. This makes much more sense now. Thanks!
Love your channel!!
Dude, upvote for the singing. No need to wait to the end, awesome bro.
would love a video on how the dwarves, the elves etc vanished.
In other words how our world came to be.
I love the thought of dwarves living somewhere beneath us never to be seen and for example Bombadil still living his peaceful live somewhere without caring about any of our problems :D
That was a great video, I like how you used pictures from many different games. I think it would be great if you could use some concept art (like from Alan Lee ) more. This is the first video I watched on your channel and you sure got my atention, keep it up!
aleksa ruzicic Thank you, and I'll try to use more of Mr. Lee's work. I really admire his paintings as well!
+Men of the West Where did you found all those pictures?
Denethor II, Steward of Gondor I found a lot of them through different online sources and google images. Thanks for watching!
That WAS you singing at the beginning!! Well done dude!
Not bad singing Yoystin. I just found out that my oldest son who is 25yrs and I 41 yrs old are both members to your channel. I knew that I taught him well he loves really great things just like this channel.
Hello Sir,
Just found your channel. Even though i'm pretty well known with the lore i really enjoy your videos. Subscribed :)
Gimblob Gimblob really me as well
I just finished the chapter when the company makes it thru Moria thanks for your videos they've been making this read easier
Awesome! Loved it!
Just want to say well done on the video's you are making for us to enjoy. Every time you sing with your choir voice i silently laugh ha. keep it up.
So much great information for movies and shows.
I really enjoy all of your videos. Would like to see one on Bree or the Prancing Pony.
Nice work dude thanks
Could you make a video about Tulkas The Strong? Love your vids!
I´m so glad you mentioned the Earth-Eaters!!! Peter Jackson actually didn´t create them just randomly for the Battle of the 5 Armies but actually they exist as they´re mentioned in one of the darkest and uncanny little known passages of The Two Towers as Gandalf recalls slightly them with high fear when he tells about his fight with the Balrog! They with the Watcher of the Water, and some other stuff from Caradhras, the Dark Hunter-Rider at the Awakening of the Elfs, the origin of Ungoliath and some other random stuff over there are quite unnussual for Tolkien style and very cosmic horror stuff as Lovecraft´works. (Even Utumno in ruins in the very far north of Middle Earth, apparently void seems as Kadath from Lovecraftian mytho)
There is something that has bothered me regarding Mria that I have never had answered for me:
When the Fellowship is deciding which path to take, Gimli suggests the Mines, while Gandalf is dead set against that. Gandalf seems to know that the Mines have fallen to dark powers, however Gimli seems completely unaware that the Mines of Moria have fallen. Why doesn't Gandalf come out and say what has happened, and how did Gimli not know what had happened?
+TeganX7 I'm sure Gimli was eager to find out what had happened to the expedition that Balin and Company had made to Moria. They were getting regular reports, and then suddenly silence. Gandalf and Aragorn had both been through Moria before the Dwarves had gone to reclaim it, and had not had an easy time. They knew about the return of the Dwarves to Moria, but the silence of the colony probably made them suspect the worst.
This makes sense. Thanks for this!
But Gandalf never suspected a balrog of morgoth in Moria. It was a complete surprise.
@@abhinavsumesh2549 I agree. Oddly, Sauruman knew what was coming.
Hey man, love your channel! You are definitely gonna soar with the quality content you're putting out. I've seen it with historia civilis and the vaults of terra. Good luck with the future!
Well met! i love your channel
Nice vid keep it up!
You mentioned that Dain saw the Balrog through the East Gate. This is true statement. Tolkien wrote that Dain went moreless fear stricken of the beast. The video was quite enjoyable to watch!!!
Wow great content my friend love it
Beautiful singing voice, like a angel.
Bravo! Love the opera!
I love your singing in the intro!
Love what you do! Very entertaining.
What about Skin-Changers, I find them interesting.
Great video!
I luv LOTR and thought was a hard core fan but man you are awesome and put me to shame. Great channel.
I honestly think you should do the Blue mountains next. It has a very interesting history, as Middle-Earth if I remember correctly used to have more land to the west.
Your work is brilliant! Thank you for expanding this universe for us lazy readers.
Great video,I would love to see a video on if Sam didn't go with frodo. Keep up the great work man 👍
Marries Rosie, they live happily ever after...
Until a great darkness swarms in from Mordor and consumes all over Middle Earth. As the black tide sweeps through the east and consumes the Shire, Sam meets his end as he is slain by a (rather short) wraith...
Grate video I always was interested in Moria
Wonderful 😊👍 video!
I've always liked the scenes including the Dwarven Kingdoms, and the Khazad-Dúm theme is one of my favorites.
Please do an epic character history on gimli. And great vids keep up the good work.
The Watcher was probably one of those nameless things that Gandalf told Frodo about and was likely lured out of the depths of Moria by Sauron not put in the lake. As to the Watcher's fate I imagine the Dwarves would've demolished the dam that formed the lake draining it and thereby stranding creature where it either was left to die or slaughtered by the Dwarves.
