RM will insult you like 3 different ways with wordplay and you'll have no idea. He is literally a genius and he chooses to use his genius to bless us lyrically.
The story behind Rm making this song is that haters kept tellin him that he cant rap fast and he cant flow...so this is kind of his answer to the haters...not only did he rap super fast if u notice some of the lines in the song dont make sense basically he is highlighting the fact that 'rap isnt only about flowing it should have meaning.' And thats why this song is called joke. If im wrong correct me guys but this is what i heard
that’s correct!!! this song is basically a joke and that one part where he was saying pure gibberish was literally to point out how that is how lyrics are for some people that claim to be “rappers”. joon is so cool
And also he says something like 'im not making any sense but listen how good i sound' and that means i can rap fast, it rhymes also im making great music that means something i do it all
It makes complete sense lmao. Its called wordplay he said this track is more about auditory pleasure but wordplay is not absent , ppl made that up on their own
his rap does make sense though. If you look at it, you can tell that its a flex and also a comeback for all the haters, almost everyword make sense, and he using wordplay to make fun of those haters
namjoon uses an insane amount of word play his lyricism is insane, only rm can write lyrics like that, the way he dissects the world is incredible. Everyone thinks they’re just some regular idol group, I did too once upon a time, until u get into it and realize they are simply unmatched, they talk their shit, write their own lyrics and everything. We could get a fun song like butter today but get a philosophical song tomorrow, with bts u just never know. Eight years into their career and army still don’t know what to expect every comeback, that itself says a lot about them.
From Agust D giving us the middle finger to RM making a song sounding so hard and have a fast flow, but then when it's being translated it's just a song full of jokes and RM is just joking about the haters. You can't even tell what would happen when they decide to make a song.

The bibbiby babbiby verse you heard him say is the joke of him dissing the mumble jumble rappers. Joke is not just "fast rap" with no meaning. RM is the KING of wordplays. He focuses a lot on lyricism, double/triple entendre and flow. He gets his inspiration from 90's hip hop if you wanna check out his first mixtape. Masterpiece! BTW he has an IQ of 148 and you'll see why his lyrics always have double meanings. The song is called *JOKE* as a slap - back at the people who said (RM wasn't a good or "real" rapper because his rap didn't have "speed" like some "real" rappers in Korean Hiphop.) RM really focusing on fitting his own rap part and lyrics to the feel of BTS songs rather than just inserting a fast rap part into a song for no reason which is kind of common in Kpop. Here, he shows off his delivery with lyrics that make much sense to mock the rappers who can rap fast but have nonsense lyrics. You could say their rap is a "joke". So he made this to get back at them! His raps got hella speed and it's basically a rap to show them that he can beat them at their own game. Some of the lyrics is just him teasing how they rap, sort of like "Look at me doing that same thing as you but I'm doing it 100x better." 😂
just love it when someone appreciates RM's talent (both his lyricism as well as as his rap). The boy is so underrated and I hope one day he gets all the love and recognition he deserves. Namjoooooon, fighting!!!!!

The fact that he still had deviated nasal septum during that time, he travels around with a device to help him breathe at night and he still raps like that! He underwent operation in 2018 to have it fixed
What’s even crazy is when he was in underground rap scene as runch randa, even the older rappers wouldn’t go against him, they knew his skills and abilities very well, he was very well known to the point suga who was in daegu knew of him lol
Love what u said -" They're not Idols, they're artists" i totally agree with u! They really learned their craft & evolved as an artist. And still wanting to be better along the way that's the true essence of being a true artist.
Just seeing this video but I need to speak on the “bibidi babidi” bar cause oh my god it’s the most intricate and devastating one... so basically before that line he says bastard you can’t rap more than three characters and then the immediate line following that is bibidi babidi (if you notice they’re all words made up of three characters) on top of that these words are made up as far as I’m aware which means he’s also dissing other rappers and their lyrics that they don’t make sense Essentially he’s saying that their raps aren’t complex nor do they make any sense dissing his competitor’s whole discography jeez 🤯 I love this man and his intelligence so much
Yea, you’ll definitely want to check out his song Awakening. In that song he actually addresses when his underground buddies backstabbed him by treating him differently for turning into an “idol.” In that song, he talks about the confusion he had regarding his identity and how he use to hate being called an idol as if being lesser than an artist, but that now he learned to love it because it became a part of him
Educate the children 👏 The reference that i got only recently and that made me flip the table is "in my pocket there's full of monsters" - he threw in a freaking POKEMON REFERENCE 😳 This man is something else istg
There’s an old Korean Hip Hop message board back when RM was active rapping before BTS. A poster asked what rapper would they be most scared of rapping against. One of the rappers posted that no one was SCARED but they wouldn’t want to battle Runch Randa (RM’s former rap name.) He was very young back then. If I find the screen shot and translation I’ll post the link. It was very long ago when I saw it and it’s not talked about much now.
one minute ago. I'm early to something for once. I really really love how you react to these. unlike other people you look into the meaning not just because it sounds cool but because they have meaning and actually understand these things. you are amazing, love this.
RM and Suga were both making names as underground rappers before they became idols. So when they decided to join BTS, those underground rappers questioned them and telling them that make up are for girls. Accusing them that fame and money is they're reason for becoming an idol and many more. Like they got a lot of dissing and hate comments from the underground rappers. these songs and Cypher is their response.
There is a lot of wordplay lost in translation but RM said that (since the song doesn't have a transcendental meaning) he made it just for auditory pleasure, that's why it's called Joke so it's okay just enjoy what you're listening!
i have a big respect to you. you are the first person who understood more in this song than ive ever watched. ragarding changing name, before was a bar: my name is Greatest my surname is Ever - this name he never will change
The fact that makes me laugh is that they criticized him for being an idol but when he was an underground rapper he was hella feared, and there were not a lot of people who dared to confront him
You can also look at he finally freeing himself from underground and stepping out in the end. He exchanged his place with the guard and left the underground scene. 💜💜🇮🇳
I love watching people react to these songs... I personally believe that someone's reaction to Joke says as much about the listener as about RM. Your reaction is beautiful- you can see past the pretty rhythms and see what's happening. I love it, and I can't wait to see more of your reactions!
now you get why armys always say that bts is the genre and caging them into kpop is basically disrespectful bc that doesn't represent who they are in the smallest fraction. and talking about their lyrics, koreans always say that the translations don't do justice to the actual insanity and complexity of their lyricism, and we're here losing our minds /still. if i would explain the difference between RM and SUGA in terms of lyrics, i would say that RM writes speech that he delivers to masses (even his usage of pronouns) and SUGA writes about and for himself. when you listen to yoongi's songs, it feels like you're getting into his head, when you listen to namjoon it feels like he's teaching you about life
im loving this reaction bcs few days ago alot of people were coming for namjoon's lyricism, in the sense that he's not good. Im cackling bcs those haters really are missing out on ART
Hello! I've stumbled upon your channel when I was searching for RUclipsrs reacting to Chanmina, I've already admired your way of sharing your knowledge and philosophy with us but I didn't dive that deep into your content yet, not until hours ago when I saw your reaction video to RM's joke (this piece is a part of my heart). I am a huge fan of BTS since 2016 and I find your commenting therapeutic, I feel like I am listening to my teacher and counselor at the same time (and I never felt so welcome in my life). Your words, really, helped me to sort what is in my head, not only I am being encouraged and inspired but I am also learning how I would properly share my inner thoughts to the people who wanted to listen to me. I just wanted to say I love listening to your comments about these lyrics and I hope you will stay healthy and safe! Thank you ♡!
RM analyses the world. He is so creative with his wordplay that he makes you think about the insult. Suga criticises the world. He hits it hard and is direct about it, he never attacks anyone directly but hey if you're insulted, that's on you. J-Hope visualises the world. He paints a pretty picture for you and he is so charismatic you end up vibing to it. BTS is full of lyrical geniuses. Love hoy you always get them and analyse them on a deeper level, man! Kudos to you, subscribed after this video and can't wait to see you reacting to more BTS! Love to see how you genuinely respect them.
Actually according to Namjoon, 'RM' now means 'Real Me', he purged the name Rap Monster because he said he is not a monster, and has moved on. But it is difficult for rap friendly listeners because the level of his rap is so monstrous (in a fantastic sort of way). I want to say, its wonderful to see a reactor actually understand the layers to this man's lyrics, and wordplay - swirls you in it, and you feel grateful to be a part of interplay. It takes real focus to raise to the level of awareness that comes with RM's bars. Congrats!
Both RM and Suga were in the underground scene, ppl freaking feared em too😭😂😂 Hope was a street dancer Jungkook was into dancing mainly B-boying along his bro so singing wasn't his main thing until BTS Tae was the son of a humble farming fam, they were busy so he was raised by his granny (peace be upon her) though tae really really looks up to his father is so many ways he never fails to mention how much he does oh and boy used to play the saxophone Jimin was into contemporary dancing, was one of the best students when he got into BTS he was very very insecure bout his voice but he's cool now, his development and all hits real hard (plus he's way too hard on himself) Jin was actually an actor lol, he studied that in college and all then was swooped up by BigHit and had to learn everything from scratch add on that raising the boys and being a reliable brother cuz he's the eldest till they grew mature enough nd we started seeing more of Jin's fun, easygoing ,childlike side which we all adore now In short, the way this band was formed was just insane man, it was brought ppl from different cities all over korea, different backgrounds and then they gotta work together, like some members didn't even go to audition (Jin was snatched off the streets lol and tae decided to auditionon a whim , that's a story to tell some other day) but look at them now, 8 years strongly and tightly together
This comment is underrated. You just summarized their entire life. And yes, reading this I re-realised that "Fate" really did some good shit bring these 7 humans together for a million ones like us. And yeah, about Jin, I remember how shy and soft spoken he was during the initial period of Bangatan's life. And look at him now, the most chaotic & confident guy on the planet lol! And Tae, he went to the audition to give his friend company, his friend who was actually there for the audition. But then stuffs happened and now we have V. Never knew fate could be this beautiful.
omg thank you so much for reacting to my suggestion!! I jumped on my seat when I saw the name of my channel on the screen lmao, anyways I'm happy you enjoyed it, it was such a genuine and nice reaction thank you again!!
Me opening this video: *sees the number of sections in the video timestamps* Me: *smiles widely* This.. this is what I came for. There are 4 songs in their solo/group discography that make me want to set fire to things and commit crimes. 1. We On - Where they basically said "don't worry about me because I'm better than you" 2. Joke - Where RM just said "if you can... beat this" 3. Agust D - Where Suga just went off on everyone who thought they could talk ish about BTS because they had a mouth 4. Ugh - Where they said "I don't even have time for you anymore"
Man it took me about 8 years after starting to listen to kpop before I decided to really check BTS out and not gonna lie.... I really thought they were just another idol group too, like I just thought they were the same thing but bigger/more popular and like... I was REALLY wrong. I was kinda mad about it for a while, like why didn't anyone tell me that they were different for real?! LOL
That's why people should understand the difference between idol and artist.. BTS is both idol and artist so don't easily compare them with other K-pop groups.💜
I freaking love this reaction The bit where you talked about them having evolved beyond underground, and idol status, brilliant and ohh so true Thank you for an amazing reaction ❤
What I love about this video is that unlike so many other reactions, you really got the message that The guy he is now, the BTS Idol, he's the cop holding in the Monster that the haters and in underground rap world are taunting and targeting. The idea that he is holding back that monster and let him out for this track so he could watch the madness, that's awesome. You even get the smirk from the guard as the Monster rips these haters down. Then, it ends with him saying "hit me" as the call out to anyone who wants to respond but he's left the monster unchained. It's a threat as much as it is a challenge. the haters speak up again and it won't be RM from Butter firing back because Monster is waiting.
I'm subscribing because of the "this is not my child he's not even my family member but he gotta listen to this too"😂😂😂 RM is my bias by the way and im always biased when it comes to him
I guess you might agree, but I don’t think there’s anything “just” about BTS. And the best - the more you dive, the more respect you get for them. Just think about all the aspects and areas you have yet to discover. I’m telling you, they will keep surprising you.
It took my 5th listen when I first found RM and BTS to realize the "two mouths, one body, the girls call you unnie" alludes to RM calling his haters... er- female genitalia 😂
Suga's diss' is more said in fancy wording while RM's are more just straight forward words, brutal on both sides despite how different their diss' are presented.
PLEASEEEE react to his entire 1st mixtape called 'RM', and 'joke' is one of the b-side tracks. the other tracks in this mixtape will blow your mind too!!!
Your energy was off the charts in this reaction haha. It was great fun watching this video. Does that mean we have j-Hope coming up next? Or did I miss a reaction? So I haven't known anything about rap before bts and I had a skewed idea of what kind of music it is (primarily regarding subjects of drugs and sex), so after getting to know bts, I started listening to some old hip hop and it's been so cool. I especially appreciate RM, as he can take things very intellectually. What was interesting to me is that RM was apparently already known in the underground before joining bts (Suga not so much as a rapper, but he was known as a beat-maker in his region). I think Suga mentioned that adult rappers were hesitant to go against RM when he was like 15 or 16, and I don't know if you are aware, but bts was built AROUND RM. The company had an idea of wanting a hip hop group, but when they encountered RM, they signed him on the spot, and then started looking for others to join him (mind you, the guy was about to quit music since he botched a big audition, but he luckily got recommended by a senior rapper to try out for Bighit). All the bts rappers have super cool audition stories. Suga was a competitive mofo and remixed RM's beat for his audition (he was the only one to do so and got signed as a producer), while J-Hope was given a camera and was supposed to film himself dancing when he was ready - the man freestyled for four hours until they came to take the camera away.
listen i don't know why armys started thinking the lyrics of this song make no sense and much less why they assumed that not only does it not make sense, but that rm did that intentionally to make fun of rappers who can only flow/be fast without meaningful lyrics. like that's a boldly specific thing to affirm for someone who never heard namjoon confirm it lmao. the song does make sense, that so many translations are shitty is a whole different story. the only part of the song where he does make fun of the way other rappers rap is in the "you can only say 3 syllables at a time. bibidi babidi (...)" part. so let's not act like a bunch of sheeps and repeat what everyone says just because. here's a better translation of the song if NOW you wanna fact check ruclips.net/video/blnA4l_f6xw/видео.html

Like they got a lot of dissing and hate comments from the underground rappers. these songs and Cypher is their response.
i totally agree with your comment about them not being idols anymore
Just heard/watched Joke- just frkn WOW INSANE..
Waa I enjoyed this react. It's not often that people understand his purpose with this song. It's a literal joke. I love it.
There is a lot of wordplay lost in translation but RM said that (since the song doesn't have a transcendental meaning) he made it just for auditory pleasure, that's why it's called Joke so it's okay just enjoy what you're listening!
literally my favourite korean rapper
I feel like i have to breath for him
I want rm to see this reaction, absolute gold.
I had to stop listening to RM and Suga solo projects. Their music made me want to break 💩 all the time while listening to their work. 😂😂😂😂😂
😀😀😀😀😀
Please also watch his MV for Awakening!
So many people forget that he released a 3rd MV for his RM Mixtape its so underrated 😭
i have a big respect to you. you are the first person who understood more in this song than ive ever watched.
ragarding changing name, before was a bar: my name is Greatest my surname is Ever - this name he never will change
I feel u 😁😅
The same reaction when I watched joke
It's nooo joke
Like some of the Army's dosent know this master piece Exists
your reviews are so good. this is the kind of critics the music industry really need. you genuinely really know stuffs
there’s a reason why this is one of my favorite solo songs
Love that you just found a random child bc it was that good 😅
Your reaction is one of my all time favorites to this.
The fact that makes me laugh is that they criticized him for being an idol but when he was an underground rapper he was hella feared, and there were not a lot of people who dared to confront him
If I ever study music in the future, one of my dreams will be to be under RM's guidence
I have said that all the time!!!!!! They are NOT IDOLS they are ARTISTS 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️😮💨
Oh yes I’ve been waiting for this one omg
And now you know!! Joke ain’t no Joke! One of my all time favorites! I can’t even count how many times I have listened to this. Pure 🔥
now you get why armys always say that bts is the genre and caging them into kpop is basically disrespectful bc that doesn't represent who they are in the smallest fraction. and talking about their lyrics, koreans always say that the translations don't do justice to the actual insanity and complexity of their lyricism, and we're here losing our minds /still.
if i would explain the difference between RM and SUGA in terms of lyrics, i would say that RM writes speech that he delivers to masses (even his usage of pronouns) and SUGA writes about and for himself. when you listen to yoongi's songs, it feels like you're getting into his head, when you listen to namjoon it feels like he's teaching you about life
AAAAAAH i love it when people reacts to any song from Namjoon’s mixtape. he’s amazing, isn’t he?
im loving this reaction bcs few days ago alot of people were coming for namjoon's lyricism, in the sense that he's not good. Im cackling bcs those haters really are missing out on ART
the quality!!! you definitely deserve more recognition man good job!
His jailer is HIMSELF.
Love to see how you genuinely respect them.
finally i was waiting for this
Rm actually means real me now
New subscriber from Canada.I like what you said...They are not idols they are artists.
Congrats!
Thank uh for watching it 🙂
Hope many ppl recognise the king namjoon Passion n hardwork
I love RM but I miss rap monster so much~
Both RM and Suga were in the underground scene, ppl freaking feared em too😭😂😂
Hope was a street dancer
Jungkook was into dancing mainly B-boying along his bro so singing wasn't his main thing until BTS
Tae was the son of a humble farming fam, they were busy so he was raised by his granny (peace be upon her) though tae really really looks up to his father is so many ways he never fails to mention how much he does
oh and boy used to play the saxophone
Jimin was into contemporary dancing, was one of the best students when he got into BTS he was very very insecure bout his voice but he's cool now, his development and all hits real hard (plus he's way too hard on himself)
Jin was actually an actor lol, he studied that in college and all then was swooped up by BigHit and had to learn everything from scratch add on that raising the boys and being a reliable brother cuz he's the eldest till they grew mature enough nd we started seeing more of Jin's fun, easygoing ,childlike side which we all adore now
In short, the way this band was formed was just insane man, it was brought ppl from different cities all over korea, different backgrounds and then they gotta work together, like some members didn't even go to audition (Jin was snatched off the streets lol and tae decided to auditionon a whim , that's a story to tell some other day) but look at them now, 8 years strongly and tightly together
@@raindrops2892 Fate did them wonders, I'm greatful
omg thank you so much for reacting to my suggestion!! I jumped on my seat when I saw the name of my channel on the screen lmao, anyways I'm happy you enjoyed it, it was such a genuine and nice reaction thank you again!!
I really love his songs, his flow is on fire.
I like all of your reactions but this is one of my favorites.
And yeah, RM is really talented.
Me opening this video: *sees the number of sections in the video timestamps*
Me: *smiles widely*
This.. this is what I came for. There are 4 songs in their solo/group discography that make me want to set fire to things and commit crimes.
1. We On - Where they basically said "don't worry about me because I'm better than you"
2. Joke - Where RM just said "if you can... beat this"
3. Agust D - Where Suga just went off on everyone who thought they could talk ish about BTS because they had a mouth
4. Ugh - Where they said "I don't even have time for you anymore"
" this is not my child" had me cracking up a lot like " before you say anything lets make something clear here thats not my child "
i still comeback to this video.. my favorite reaction.please u are so articulate!!!
i love seeing RM getting the attention he deserves
Man it took me about 8 years after starting to listen to kpop before I decided to really check BTS out and not gonna lie.... I really thought they were just another idol group too, like I just thought they were the same thing but bigger/more popular and like... I was REALLY wrong. I was kinda mad about it for a while, like why didn't anyone tell me that they were different for real?! LOL
Did you even take a breath!!
RM: yesn't
All I gotta say is he warned them “Man, I told you I’m a monster.”
That's why people should understand the difference between idol and artist.. BTS is both idol and artist so don't easily compare them with other K-pop groups.💜
I freaking love this reaction
The bit where you talked about them having evolved beyond underground, and idol status, brilliant and ohh so true
Thank you for an amazing reaction ❤
What I love about this video is that unlike so many other reactions, you really got the message that The guy he is now, the BTS Idol, he's the cop holding in the Monster that the haters and in underground rap world are taunting and targeting. The idea that he is holding back that monster and let him out for this track so he could watch the madness, that's awesome. You even get the smirk from the guard as the Monster rips these haters down. Then, it ends with him saying "hit me" as the call out to anyone who wants to respond but he's left the monster unchained. It's a threat as much as it is a challenge. the haters speak up again and it won't be RM from Butter firing back because Monster is waiting.
right i actually thought they're the same as other idols but they're not. they are artists truly artists that love their art
thank u for this quality reaction!! the timestamps were convenient and i had to click like when u brought the baby, it was too cute :)
I was waiting for this!!!
Yaaaaashhhhhhh !!
Loved this reaction!
PLEASEEEE react to his entire 1st mixtape called 'RM', and 'joke' is one of the b-side tracks. the other tracks in this mixtape will blow your mind too!!!
the timecodes 😮
Joke so underated
Kudos to you! I can never read the subtitles as fast as RM's rap! Haha... cypher 3 next please!!!!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I highly recommend reacting to their cyphers ❤️
💜🇧🇷💜RM is no joke!!! And this song is fire 🔥!!!! Love it!! Thanks 💜💜💜💜💜RM The Rap Monster!!!!
RM took a backseat for Suga to shine. They are both incredible
listen i don't know why armys started thinking the lyrics of this song make no sense and much less why they assumed that not only does it not make sense, but that rm did that intentionally to make fun of rappers who can only flow/be fast without meaningful lyrics. like that's a boldly specific thing to affirm for someone who never heard namjoon confirm it lmao. the song does make sense, that so many translations are shitty is a whole different story. the only part of the song where he does make fun of the way other rappers rap is in the "you can only say 3 syllables at a time. bibidi babidi (...)" part. so let's not act like a bunch of sheeps and repeat what everyone says just because. here's a better translation of the song if NOW you wanna fact check ruclips.net/video/blnA4l_f6xw/видео.html
You making the child witness namjoon spitting fire😭
Youre speaking FACTS i respect you
