Joke is basically a comeback to all of those who said he wasn’t a good rapper because he couldn’t rap fast, in this video he obviously proves them wrong but while he is making a lot of disses there is really no meaning behind all of them and he did that on purpose because he wanted to prove that rapping fast doesn’t even mean anything if you don’t have a good flow. People would try to shade his rap skills, saying that he had no flow and no speed. So he made this track as a “joke” to show off his speed and in it he also shades back that criticism by pointing out that you can’t rap as fast as you want but if you’re just saying nonsense, what’s the point. Hence some verses like ‘bibbidy bobbedy’ he was mocking the rappers. Not only RM’s rap is not only nice, it’s intelligent and in ways I don’t even fully understand because you kind of have to get Korean culture and sayings to fully grasp the wordplay. Personally, I think he’s in the hospital in the MV because he’s a “Rap Monster” so they have to contain him, if that even makes any sense.
I feel you, I miss Rap Monster too. His Monster solo album was amazing. But the RM of today created Mono which is a masterpiece in and of itself so I can’t complain.
I need an album with both like an RM vs Rap Monster type of deal. Best of both worlds

For me Rap monster and RM are the same just that RM is more mature. Namjoon grown up as an artist and a person, he is a versatile artist and i think that the RM mixtape was just a way of Namjoon express his anger, meanwhile mono is a view more realistic of life, i feel proud of him.

It was very different very different now they are treated like kings but I remember when they won their first Daesang and I had to fight with exo-l because they would say that exo were the kings of kpop and that only exo deserves it and that bts didn’t have enough fans to win and that they weren’t famous enough, fake album sales etc and honestly it was exhausting being a fan back then because I know we flex about the coming from a small company and getting big but back then that was an insult.But there were a lot of positives I went through in my opinion some of the best eras bts have had and watched them grow to success but I will say I felt a lot more connected back then. 100 mill would have been a huge thing yet now it’s an expectation it’s great how far they have come but those times I do miss them. And I say I stanned in 2015 because I remember when the first episode of run aired.

I see people saying "I miss Rap Monster". Honestly, I do too at times. The savage way he could tear you down and spin words around you was unreal.
But I also love the RM of now.
Not just because Mono was a masterpiece and his way of creating music now is breathtaking in a different way.
But because you know, that while RM has you bopping and jamming out to "Trivia: Love" and "Seoul", he could turn around, at any moment he chooses, and spit mad fire at you and completely mess you up in the best of ways. That he still has the absolute capability of doing it.
Some people are under the impression that just because he's 'RM' now, that he no longer has the ability to flow like he did before.

I really do love the Namjoon/RM of now. I love that he's expressing himself the way he wants. Moonchild has really helped me personally. I love that he's stepped out of the rapper box and is experimenting with all genres. He's even singing! I love my bias so so much. I hope he continues to create and bring happiness to our lives! 💜

I hope you guys react to all of the songs from Mono. They are all so amazing. A couple literally make me cry and give me the chills when I hear them. They've really helped me during the times my mental state has been at an all time low.
SO READY FOR THIS REACTION. Honestly one of his best songs and his whole first mixtape tape is soo underrated and the whole thing is just a masterpiece. And I highly recommend the whole thing. It’s such a contrast to Mono and to see that growth between the two mixtapes is really cool. He’s grown a lot and the way he does word play and how he raps and his lyrics it’s just soo raw. Plus this mixtape is what made me see more of what BTS was about. And it’s what really pulled me in and this mixtape opened my mind to a lot and it helped me through a dark time. This was when Namjoon was my first bias... before Yoongi stole my soul. But I can’t hype this mixtape enough. It’s soo good.

Rm is a sentimental rapper, he said back then he has a lot of angry inside, he resented a lot (people who look down at him mostly), like he need to proof something, proof himself, he said that he wanted to do a lot, show a lot and flow with the misconception of "rapper", but now he said he found himself, he doesn't have to push to much, he's doing the music he likes and rapping how he likes and feel comfortable, it's not that he can't go back to Rap Monster, he just doesn't want to be like that anymore, he's fine. The thing is Rap Monster was fueled by rage at an industry that rejected him and called him a sold out, in his eyes he had something to prove, he was angry and hurting, he wasn’t sure on what side he was standing. The RM we have now has learned to accept and love every part of himself and doesn’t care what others say because he knows who he is, he is no longer hurting like that and he has said he is not angry anymore and is happy now.
I think he doesn’t rap like this anymore because of that, he was hurting now he’s healed and found his one sound and voice.

I don't think this will be the last type of rap we'll see from Joonie. I know for MONO he said something about not always having to rap fast to be a good rapper and thats why he had a slower melodic flow going on for that mixtape. Something I love about Joonie and BTS in general is that they never get comfortable in one music style or genre, they always go out of their comfort zone and they put their own twist on things to make it theirs. Joon has many sides to his rap and is versatile with his flow and it usually goes with the intent he has for his current work. Back then he was proving something and on the offense so his flow and style were heavy and intense and never gave you a time to breath as it kept going up in scale. I love your reactions and your intake on BTS's music so much that I even watch non-BTS content! YOU NICE KEEP GOING!
Some say that the song makes no sense but I had a different take on this. His lyrics DO make sense in a way especially close to the end. Because in the beginning he raps fast and changes his flow multiple times throughout the song, sounding like he practically isn’t breathing to flex his combo of flow+fast rap for those rappers who say RM cant rap fast and focuses too much on lyrics. By midpoint he makes random rhymes stylistically on purpose as if to mock those who accused him of focusing only on lyrics when they themselves cant make raps with decent lyrics. But close to the end of his rap the lyrics get straight to the point for antis to realize that they’re actually getting dissed and THAT’S the joke. Rappers that say RM’s just good at lyrics and yet here he’s mimicking the rappers that can only do speed+flow and speed only + barely any lyrical content with his own version of those in this song and then surprising them in the end when he reveals he has the complete package as a rapper. RM says I TOLD YOU THAT I’M A MONSTER since he not only proves others wrong that he can write good lyrics (since they’re getting dissed right under their noses) and he can do that while rapping fast and having a variety of flow too, basically he is a RAP MONSTER BECAUSE HE HAS ALL THE SKILLS OF A RAPPER - RHYTHM, POETRY, SPEED
if you don't quit playing and check out his first mixtape, "RM" 🤧💕 the energy he had in this equates to the energy he had in "Joke" and for some songs of "Mono" also. His predebut stuff is something I hope you guys check out too. He's still Kim Namjoon, RM never left he just evolved.
