DAECHWITA is a Korean traditional marching band type of a song that is used to welcome or celebrate kings, loyalties and other important national events. Suga's real name is Min Yoongi his surname is Min. He is a descendant of Min clan, who belongs to the Joseon dynasty. Making him a decent of royalty. So that makes this song all the more accurate for him
That is actually a good observation to the scar. Kings, emperors, or those who are in the line of the throne are STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE SCARS because of the reason that they will be or they are in the public's eye and will serve as role models who should be pleasing to look at. Meanwhile, Suga in the video has scars which actually represent like "fk standards because I'm the king so who is who" that kind of thing.
Well actually he said in an interview that he wanted to have a scar just to make an impression when he lifted his head at the beginning of the MV, so no big meaning even if yours is good :) ♡
the function of having no visible flaws/no scars isn't purely "role models who should be pleasing to look at", but because most kings, emperors, pharaohs and so on - any type of rule often cemented their right to rule through either being a god on earth or being a god or goddess' representative/son/daughter and so on. And those ruling gods cannot have scars, it would disprove their divinity and divine right to rule. (Even if they weren't a god or related to a god, there would always be religious systems in place and woven into the systems of power to support their rule.)
You caught the meaning faster than most reactors I’ve seen do this song. Well done. I think the scar could represent the fact that he may have risen to be a king but he didn’t get there unscathed. He has definitely been scarred by his experiences, but he’s become so strong even his scars can’t stop him from becoming the king. Or he just did it because it looks cool and I’m over thinking. The rice chest thing refers to crown prince Sado who was executed by being locked in a rice chest until he starved to death. If you want to see a Jimin solo you should check out his song Filter.
That peasant is actually the modern day version of himself who in the end killed the king who he felt he has become or fears to become. A king with all the money, fame and glory that he once wanted. He dont want to be in that high pedestal, he wants to come back down to the ground. That king has his scar cause he did rise from street to this position. And, yes, it would be impossible really to become king if you are scarred.
He is producer, songwriter, composer of this song, credited for keyboard and synthesizer. He was also behind the concept of this MV, everything was his idea

Can I just say I love your reaction! Just a bit of a trivia on the lyrics: there are a lot of historical references in them! In the first verse, the lyrics went, "Berserk tiger, Gwanghae flow" is a reference to Gwanghaegun, a leader from the Joseon era. He wasn't originally a successor to the throne. However, by proving his leadership abilities, he rose up the ranks and was given the title crown prince. I'm not exactly sure what happened along the way, though, but Gwanghaegun wasn't crowned king in the end. Keeping with the historical theme, when Yoongi rapped about shoving "the past into a rice chest," he was referencing the story of another crown prince, Crown Prince Sado. He was sentence to die by his father (the king, of course) because of attempted murder. He was literally tied up and shoved into a rice chest :') This is of course like surface level meaning. I'm sure Yoongi had other things in mind too :) Also, Bang PD is the CEO of BigHit ^^; The boys are really close to him. The drawing i the scroll is actually Jungkook's drawing of Bang PD form one episode of their show Run BTS!
that drawing of Bang PD even became like his signature icon and ARMYs could recognize that drawing, I was even surprised and laguhed when I noticed..and thought "Agust D brought some humor on the MV"
In terms of storyline Suga said that the Mad King represents his old self and his ambition to be the king, and also the corruption that happens. Modern gangster suga is the him now, killing his old self (the Mad King) and bringing his era of rule into something new. Also if you look at the lines said by the Mad King Suga and Gangster Suga their lines come across as the two of them talking to each other.
This video was Suga's idea, as every professional who respects himself was aware of every detail, meeting with the production team, he even learned the sword dance in just 2 days. Thank you for appreciating our Min Yoongi, Suga, Agust D. Try to listen to his mixtape to know deeper of him. He tackles about his hardships, his own struggles, his depression, which made him who he is today. Not every artist can put their own battles in to their songs.
FUN FACT: Suga (agust d) is actually of royal blood. His real name is Min Yoongi and is a grandson of Korea's Last Empress. Also Kim Seokjin (jin) and Kim Taehyung (V) came from the "Gwangsan Kim Clan", which was like one of the most prominent clans during the "Joseon Dynasty". Their clan was basically the descendants of "Heung Gwang", who was the third prince of "Sinmu" of "Silla", in it's 45th monarch. So Jin and Tae are whole royal blood straight up from a prince.
I’m korean and not really good at english, so I’m not sure if I understand every words you said. But your review was incredible!!! No one really understood the deep meaning of his song but you did! It was really good to see your reaction video☺️
I really appreciate that you looked up what daechwita means to understand bc I've watched so many people ask and then never look it up. then they never fully understand what the song is about
He showed up in a modern car you didn't think he'd bring a gun? The king was crazy and beheading people, he had to go, new boss in town for the people.🤔🙄💜🤗
I love your BRAIN. And the fact that you USE IT. The commentary is absolutely golden sir, thank fuck that someone actually stops to think and appreciate the art that this is.
whoever is not subscribed to this man hit that button right now, he truly deserves to be followed. i binge watch a lot of reaction videos because i like to see others people perspective and maybe i could understand the song and mv meaning even more. he breaks down so well and you could truly see from he’s content that he actually enjoys kpop and discovering this genre not just all about the views. also i would love to see you reacting to ugh by bts that song is soo hype it’s a song about the haters/ doubters and the toxicity/ anger that could affect they well-being, it’s a masterpiece✨
This gentleman is possibly in my opinion, one of the most articulate, best reactors on RUclips. Suga is my bias so the pleasure of Mr. Wilson is my pleasure
Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/JayEtmyXVpo/видео.html You basically nailed the whole meaning if the video, but there are a few subtle things that you might find interesting so definitely check out the DKDKTV explanation.
The amount of Korean wordplays here and historical references? It is crazy! Plus, Yoongi himself thought of the concept of the music video and produced the song!
I see you, I hear you and I'm here enjoying the reaction, enjoying the journey with you. You were right that many people out there just can't cross the language barrier. Music transcends language, you hear, you feel and vibe with music; no words actually needed but in BTS' case, their lyricism is a BONUS for us all who appreciates their sincerity. Your decision to explore more BTS will be the BEST decision in life ever. Borahae
My ultimate bias! 💜 This bust my students' heads when I used it for lyrical poetry analysis class. Turned some of them to Armys. I suggest you listen to Shadow, The Last, Agust D. They're all by Suga/Agust D. Better yet, check his mixtapes, you'll love them. And Cypher 1-4 😄💜
Since you dont watch much BTS you won't realise that right from their first song they have been talking about their thoughts. Their Map of the Soul 7 album is ALL about this state of being on top but wanting to be grounded. Not inspired by Rose. Believe me.
@@histfictfan4460 Ok. My bad for not noticing it was a recurrent theme in kpop. I thought groups from Big companies were famous to start with when launched.
I think the scars kings aren't allowed to have refers to how idols are supposed to have this clean image and history, but now Suga is on top despite his troubled past 🙌
I also want to say that I've never seen a reactor who search up the meaning of Daechwita (in general just being so interested in meaning). Most of all I'm happy about your genuine non-judgemental and insightful reactions. You are awesome!
I just started your reaction and I'm already in love with it. I was happy that you pointed out that he is a king in the beginning. Since most people don't know what Korean royalty looks like, they just brush over that, but it plays such an important role in the story
Omg your perspective and they way you analized it was really good! I really loved how you dive in the lyrics and enjoy everything!!! The only thing i would clarify is the story the mv is telling us is that the old version of himself wanted to be king and famous and was full of anger, this is represented by the old style clothes, the sword as weapon, the blond hair, like the hair he had in his first mixtape, and the fresh scar on his face. But now a mature version of himself who has his feet on the ground comes to challenge that, its the Yoongi with black hair, his natural color, modern clothes, who uses a car and a gun, and the scar in his face is more healed. His old self used repress the more calm and loving side of him a lot, thats why the king tells to cut black haired Yoongi's head, but the tables turn cause his mature version who is able to control his anger is stronger and manages to kill that angry version of himself and become and more fair king who dosent just cuts peoples head over nothing.
This song is so damn deep, there are some historical reference in the lyrics and video, if you want to know more, plz watch Daechwita explained by a korean!!! Fun fact(?): Jin and JK are acting in the video, try to find them out :) and I think the man chopping meat is the same who want to cut the head at the last scene
Every time I see your reactions I just get so shocked 😳 you get sooo many ideas and the meanings bts imply in their lyrics or mvs without explanations and it’s so lit Absolutely love it!!!
Some people may not know this but when filming some of these scenes. Mainly the king ones. He had been drinking to give a different feel to his movements. He wasn’t drunk but he wasn’t sober either
It's funny cos before the behind the scenes and his interview reg daechwita came, a lot of Armys where theorising that the scar was a metaphor of him defying the odds.. as you said, Kings cannot have scars or any facial blemishes. So yoongi having one and still being king was achieving the 'impossible', symbolizing his (or bts's) rise to the top as the ultimate underdogs of the industry. But then, when yoongi was finally asked what the scar was for, he said he got it just 'because it looked cool' 😂😂 so much for theories 😅
I really love/enjoy your reactions to BTS and other Kpop artists especially since you are so genuine when talking about how you feel. And I love that you appreciate the music for what it is and the art that is the mv. Please never change!
Genuinely one the best reactors I've seen in a sea of reactors. The mere fact that you're spacing out the bts reactions so it doesn't seem like you're hopping on a hype train and to appreciate them properly is the bare minimum but it's so praise worthy! Thank you much for this!! Keep up your amazing support and respect!
Your grasp of their art amazes me, for real. You are one of the few that actually appreciates them. Thank you💜 so proud of him, this song was #1 on the Rap/Hip Hop Charts! The name of that gun is army lol 😆
I love that you pay attention to and analyze the lyrics. So many reactors just comment on how good the song sounds which is nice but like, come on! Suga's lyricism is incredible!
Dude you're such a unique voice and I'm enjoying all your reactions. Thanks for being so thoughtful and insightful while still vibing hard with bops and good flows 😌
It took some people couple of watching and listening to actually grasp the meaning behind the mv and song but you got it at first time watching/listening… idk.. but you are awesome.. One of the best reaction i’ve seen so far..
What my favorite thing about this is that, Yoongi is from the royal Yeoheung Min clan. He wasn’t just saying “i’m a king” figuratively. He’s literally a king (descendant of royalty)!! Love the reaction!! edit: Just wanted to add that explains why he repeats Daechwita! :)
I really appreciate that you’re not listening to people about BTS, whether people say they or the best or haters say they are overrated, you are seeing them for who they are and their level of artistry and I really appreciate you not listening to other about them because I got into BTS without knowing anything about Kpop and it made me appreciate them on my own instead of trying to get into the because of the hype. Can’t wait for you to react to each individual in the group :)
Fun fact: Yoongi actually has royal blood in him, he's apart of the Yeoheung Min clan which was a very powerful clan Clan during Joseon dynasty. Yoongi himself confirmed it and also added that his family belonged to a high ranking within the clan, so its pretty cool that he kinda used that in this MV where he's a king especially since he's a descended of the last queen in the Joseon Dynasty.
Agust D_The Last. Another outstanding example of this mans genuis songwriting and delivery. Love your tone and intellectual beeakdown of BTs music. Peace ✌🏼
Min Yoongi is also a producer and has his hands in producing a bunch of the works of BTS and his own work. Not only that he also writes and produces for others artists as well.
I just got into BTS, their song Dynamite got me into them, but never knew who sang it till now, and I started searching BTS and just found more songs I liked of them, even learned that they all did solo stuff, but out of all their solo stuff I got drawn into Suga/Agust D, he goes hard, and is such a genius so much talent
Only Suga would bring a gun to a swordfight... love your reactions, your critical analysis of his lyricism gives justice to the artist and his art. Love it for you! New sub 💜
You are the first reactor I've ever watched who actually understood the purpose of that ending, his old/true self shooting the tyrant king he had become.
i’m so picky when it comes to reaction channels since they say a lot of stuff that is a bit 😬 but YOU are literally amazing and i was so shocked how much i actually adored u in the first video i saw from u
wow, i’ve never seen a good reaction video. tbh, clicked for the laugh and ended up speechless. you’re totally invested in the lyrics and the culture - you noticed the scar and went straight to search the meaning of the world. it’s really important that you actually appreciate the art they make and where they’re from, not seeking only views. i mean thank you for being sick man !!!!
I felt the same way when I started supporting them in 2013. They’re just different. Visuals didn’t matter. I can’t simp for any BTS member 😂 I just love them as artists and individuals. They’re talented.
The "no scars" things for King, have another interpretation. Most of the Asia people believe that, their King is "the chosen one". The chosen one will have protection from the god. If the King have a scars, it mean he's not the chosen one, or will bring bad luck to the country.
i can't believe im actually streaming agust d more than twice before i knew bts just bcs i felt like i like it eventho i don't understand the meaning at that time and i literally shocked when i found out that agust d actually suga from bts 😂 oh silly me btw pardon for my english since it's not my first language.
I’m this song, Min Yoongi, aka Suga, aka Agust D, is talking about how he grew up. He started out poor. He describes himself as a slave (a surf). He describes how he grew up and made something of himself in the rap/r&b community (a king).
The moment he said " scar on king " my head straight goes to " scarlet heart reyo" If you think about it,- the whole drama was around 4th prince having scar on his face ... Such a good show
For those who do not understand the meaning of the word "daechwita". Daechwita is the instrumental song with a voice that sounds at the beginning of the video, it is a military song that was played when the king of Joseon (present-day Korea) was going somewhere. Agust D (SUGA) asks them to play daechwita because he is the king. Also, the scar on his face represents how powerful he is. The people dressed in black are the ministers, who are on their knees because the king has dominated them. You also see a contrast between old and new things, this has to do with the two versions, the old and the new king. Also, the person who dances with the sword is the beheader; Butcher. The dance is part of the performance ritual.
When they unroll the artwork by the car and he talks about Bang PD dancing on and on, the artwork is a reference to an inside joke between BTS and BangPD, the CEO of their entertainment company. I don't remember the exact reason they were drawing him, but that was how Jungkook drew him, and ever since, it pops up in the most unexpected places. Most recently, during the press release of the design for the HYBE Labels building, BangPD used it as his avatar. XD
Suga explained this in a behind the scene making of the MV; he said the King version of him was his former greedy and selfish self while the peasant version is his current more humble and grateful self. Jin and Jungkook had cameos.. they were the two that started fighting behing Suga in the marketplace. Suga learned how to do that sword dance in two days. Fun Facts, Yoongi is really descended from royalty and the antique gun he used to kill his former Kingly self, it actually called "Army" :)
This car was a very popular car in Korea back in the day, people have complained about why not using a better car but this is a historic kind of video.
This is really cool, you actually understand and get really close to the meaning on these reactions most ppl are so far off ok BTS reactions cause they don’t have the background info. But yeah I think blonde king Yoongi is his persona from the previous mix tape with AgustD and the last, and the black hair personality is his current self. I think he is saying that version of him was a bit of a tyrant. Beheading everyone very angry and he was king so he has grown since then personality wise and kind of kills his old angry self? So same thing as what your saying one of his personalities kills his other personality but that’s my thoughts on it just personally

I want to tell, Linton Wilson, that Suga is the last great-grandson of the Korean Empire🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
@@jesin0005 who cares idiot. It’s not false. We are not sure if he is. Either way he’s related or somewhere in the line. Stop being a douchebag.
@@jesin0005 First, I am not lying and the information is true
he's related but not the last lol, the whole yeoheung min clan is related to the queen's side
@@aktivmusic5517 There is the imperial family series and in the last Suga Huo family series
@@youvk4434 nah, suga's from the yeoheung min clan as i mentioned before and Korea's got like thousands of them which means he's not the last
your voice is so pleasing to the ear
I’m korean and not really good at english, so I’m not sure if I understand every words you said. But your review was incredible!!! No one really understood the deep meaning of his song but you did! It was really good to see your reaction video☺️
I really appreciate that you looked up what daechwita means to understand bc I've watched so many people ask and then never look it up. then they never fully understand what the song is about
Just imagine, this MV is for a free mixtape.
thats me when i read a lil hangul lol
Tonyyyyyy,ur one of my favourite reactors
He showed up in a modern car you didn't think he'd bring a gun? The king was crazy and beheading people, he had to go, new boss in town for the people.🤔🙄💜🤗
I love your BRAIN. And the fact that you USE IT.
The commentary is absolutely golden sir, thank fuck that someone actually stops to think and appreciate the art that this is.
whoever is not subscribed to this man hit that button right now, he truly deserves to be followed. i binge watch a lot of reaction videos because i like to see others people perspective and maybe i could understand the song and mv meaning even more. he breaks down so well and you could truly see from he’s content that he actually enjoys kpop and discovering this genre not just all about the views.
also i would love to see you reacting to ugh by bts
that song is soo hype it’s a song about the haters/ doubters and the toxicity/ anger that could affect they well-being, it’s a masterpiece✨
This gentleman is possibly in my opinion, one of the most articulate, best reactors on RUclips. Suga is my bias so the pleasure of Mr. Wilson is my pleasure
DKDK TV gives an in depth view of this song.....so much symbolism and lots of historical references 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
"Daechwita explained by a korean" is deeply informative as much emotional
So worth a watch!!!!
Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/JayEtmyXVpo/видео.html
You basically nailed the whole meaning if the video, but there are a few subtle things that you might find interesting so definitely check out the DKDKTV explanation.
DKDK TV is a bts anti btw, ik its hard 2 believe, but its proven, just to let u guys know.
@@brobro2927 are you mad?!?
yeah.....the flow.....
me before: I don't like rap
me after Yoongi: I was stupid not to like rap
The Kdrama he was referring to is The King: Eternal Monarch ♥️☺️
Thank you! I was looking for the title in the comments for awhile.
The amount of Korean wordplays here and historical references? It is crazy! Plus, Yoongi himself thought of the concept of the music video and produced the song!
8:36 Everyone makes the same reaction at this point of the song when Suga switches it up I love it XD
I'm so proud of you girl 😍
Borahae 💜💜💜
@@nevermindminyoongi5271 Kamsa. Borahae too. 💜💜💜
"there never has been a bts song where there hasn´t really been a meaning."
- cries in Dynamite and Butter
- both are still a bop
Since you dont watch much BTS you won't realise that right from their first song they have been talking about their thoughts.
Their Map of the Soul 7 album is ALL about this state of being on top but wanting to be grounded.
Not inspired by Rose. Believe me.
@@histfictfan4460 Ok. My bad for not noticing it was a recurrent theme in kpop.
I thought groups from Big companies were famous to start with when launched.
@@histfictfan4460 hahaha. It is bright and sunny here where I am. 💜
Good night.
I'm so proud and honored to read this comment.... Thank you for a wonderful conversation....
I'm so glad 😇💜
This is title track of his second self-produced mixtape D-2. It has 10 songs and all of them are fire, you should check them out
Omg your perspective and they way you analized it was really good!
What makes this concept even more sick is the fact that Yoongi is actually of royal blood. He is related to the Korean Royal family.
Yes finally Agust D always spitting bars
Every time I see your reactions I just get so shocked 😳 you get sooo many ideas and the meanings bts imply in their lyrics or mvs without explanations and it’s so lit
Absolutely love it!!!
The level of how you appreciate music and bts is fresh air my man! Its great to see intellectuals finding out how great bts is
I just love this reaction ‘cause u got the message perfectly, well done!! and one more time SUGA nails it ❤️
Some people may not know this but when filming some of these scenes.
Please never change!
this hit harder when u know yoongi really is royal blood
I love this man and how he doesn’t just judge right away!! He actually try’s to understand ‼️💜
You are literally the first reactor I’ve seen that has dug deeper to fully understand what he was saying in this video!! Thank you!
Dude you're such a unique voice and I'm enjoying all your reactions. Thanks for being so thoughtful and insightful while still vibing hard with bops and good flows 😌
OUR KING SUGA IS OF ROYAL BLOODLINE FROM THE LAST EMPRESS OF KOREA.
It took some people couple of watching and listening to actually grasp the meaning behind the mv and song but you got it at first time watching/listening… idk.. but you are awesome..
One of the best reaction i’ve seen so far..
His cadence in the mid ending so clean smooth 🔥 his voice tone melody singing
Peace ✌🏼
like your analysis so much
you pay attention to thing in the mv or in the lyrics and this is so good to see
Min Yoongi is also a producer and has his hands in producing a bunch of the works of BTS and his own work.
You the 1st reactor that appreciated his story with sincerity and in truth and for that will subscribe. Loved your input.
8:36, yes that was my reaction too, that part hit different, love your reaction, thanks for the video
i can see why 🤣 thank you for such kind words Maria 💜
i’m so picky when it comes to reaction channels since they say a lot of stuff that is a bit 😬 but YOU are literally amazing and i was so shocked how much i actually adored u in the first video i saw from u
wow, i’ve never seen a good reaction video. tbh, clicked for the laugh and ended up speechless. you’re totally invested in the lyrics and the culture - you noticed the scar and went straight to search the meaning of the world. it’s really important that you actually appreciate the art they make and where they’re from, not seeking only views. i mean thank you for being sick man !!!!
guess i gotta binge watch every single one of your reactions for good skin
I felt the same way when I started supporting them in 2013. They’re just different. Visuals didn’t matter. I can’t simp for any BTS member 😂 I just love them as artists and individuals. They’re talented.
The "no scars" things for King, have another interpretation.
Most of the Asia people believe that, their King is "the chosen one". The chosen one will have protection from the god.
If the King have a scars, it mean he's not the chosen one, or will bring bad luck to the country.
theres an explained video. please check it out! black haired yoongi is of the people, why they bobbed their heads with him.
i can't believe im actually streaming agust d more than twice before i knew bts just bcs i felt like i like it eventho i don't understand the meaning at that time and i literally shocked when i found out that agust d actually suga from bts 😂 oh silly me btw pardon for my english since it's not my first language.

thank you so much for genuinely appreciating them, for taking time. means a lot to all of us
you have great observation skills! i like how you think through every detail in the mv and assume it's hidden meaning!
FYI - that TV series is called The King: Eternal Monarch with Lee-Min Ho, soooo good.
I’m this song, Min Yoongi, aka Suga, aka Agust D, is talking about how he grew up. He started out poor. He describes himself as a slave (a surf). He describes how he grew up and made something of himself in the rap/r&b community (a king).
Ooooooo I was going to request this 😂😂😂😂😂😂 thanksss
The moment he said " scar on king " my head straight goes to " scarlet heart reyo"
If you think about it,- the whole drama was around 4th prince having scar on his face ...
Finally, a smart and genuine reaction!!!
Yey! Thanks for your nice words about the video, SUGA is genius, and soft hearted person 😉borahae💜💜
3:45 Jin and Jungkook
I CLICKED ON THIS VIDEO SO FAST
wow, you're actually pretty well informed about korean king's history. impressive, learning from kdramas really come a long way lol
Your reactions are my favourite ones! Thank you for making these reactions and always, *always* being respectful!
This car was a very popular car in Korea back in the day, people have complained about why not using a better car but this is a historic kind of video.
I'm a 56 years old Mexican ARMY. I have seen a lot of reactions to Daechwita. First time someone really understand the meaning. Thanks.
Especially when you take a look into Sugas childhood and before he became an idol, you can tell where the inspiration for his lyrics come from
This is really cool, you actually understand and get really close to the meaning on these reactions most ppl are so far off ok BTS reactions cause they don’t have the background info.
