I love how the MK fatalities showed the fighters had multiple rib cages and several complete sets of organs.
Maybe all characters in the game were supposed to be very creative organ smugglers?

Hyan36 Get rev 5, then get rev 3, if you want to see Ermacs on the original MK on Mame. Weird, huh? I have no idea how you need a later revision to run an earlier revision. If there's something behind this, please reply.
+asher collier Mame builds make one version the "base", and to run variants you need the files that are replaced by the variant.
For example, Mortal Kombat Rev 5 might have files called mk.bin, mk.chara.bin, mk.stage.bin and the rev 3 zip would only have mk.chara.bin if that is the only difference between the two, but it is still dependent on mk.bin and mk.stage so if you tried to run it by itself you'd be missing files and it wouldn't work.
Note that this is a very simplistic explanation.

The "red-clad woman" at 5:30 is actually Kira, not Skarlet. You can tell by the outfit.
I believe fatalities also came about because ed boon noted the dizzy effect in sf2 made people feel terrible because they couldn't do anything, so rather than have that he'd put the dizzy at the end of the round

Funny thing, is that the Clad woman in Kahn's Arena was Kira, from Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. A Black Dragon thug who was playable in those two games.

wrong kano was removed from mk2 because of a special glitch found in the origional arcade machine for mortal kombat where if you rotated the joystick a few times his now classsic barrel roll move could be spammed, he was removed because of the mk2 tornament so all fights would be fair
.........They never gave a reason for why Kano wasn't in MK2 they just talked about a joke.....

MKX is my sh*t, but damn Skarlet sure did spend a lot of time in the darkness before finally appearing. Another thing that made MK special is the game's sexuality as expressed in MK9. Sadly that was deducted from MKX but I'm straight so you nerds can't possibly expect me to be cool with that.

The movie "Bloodsport" may have possibly inspired or influenced Mortal Kombat. Both contain death tournaments where the best fighters compete and fatalities are permitted. Another coincidence is that one of the suggested name titles for Mortal Kombat was "Kumite", which was the name for the martial art tournament in Bloodsport. What do you think?
I can remember seeing an article in EGM that stated that Jax was a playable character hidden in the PC version of MK1. They showed a screen grab of him fighting Lui Kang in the Pit stage and performing his fatality (he would tear his opponents arms off.) They also included an image of him breaking the blocks in the bonus stage.

My favorite fighting series of all time. I can't describe the countless hours I spent plopped down in the floor with my SNES controller in hand as a young child trying mercilessly to defeat my older brother and perform a fatality.
My efforts were futile as he knew special moves such as Strykers gun, and well, all I could do was spam buttons and of course this was before AOL managed to sneak into my home (we didn't even have a PC) and then when we did I had absolutely no idea what HK (etc) was.
That was probably the most calming Mat & Pat vid on RUclips.

I love how the official Mortal Kombat theme comes from a half-decent movie adaptation and not any of the games.
They also have a bit of fun with Ermac in MK9. During the MK1 Storyline you actually fight Ermac.

In UMK3 for iOS,Ermac's bio describes him as a warrior from the first tournament but absent from the 2nd,returning to the 3rd

lets say - ermac was just bug on some arcade cabins where scorpion palette was red
same for scarlet. rain was hoax character showed in ultimate mortal kombat 3 intro but never apeared in game, until mk trilogy and some umk ports. blaze was also character based on myth he is shown on mk2 bridge as human-torch.

There's actually a very simple explanation as to where the "red ninjas" came from. The original sprites for Scorpion, Sub-Zero, etc., were actually all based on the same digitized actor, they just swapped out the colors. Same for the female ninjas. And when they were recorded, the ninja costume was red. So basically, the character that became Ermac was really just the default color for the ninja characters, before the red had been swapped out for the appropriate palette. Same for Scarlet.

I remember back in the day when Mortal Kombat 3 was in development; my friends and I made up new characters for the game, their moves, and themes. We made up ErMac as meaning "Air Machine" and his moves were based around that principle. Personally I thought it would have been better.

I had no idea that Mortal Kombat was the reason that the ESRB Ratings were created. And 5:31 was Kira.
Another character that was created over a myth in MK what in the background of the stage "the pit II" in MK:2 was a fight between two people and the guy on the right was on fire. People believed that their was a way to play as the burning man and was later showed up in MK: Armageddon.
