  • I see so many posts, videos, and all that talking about how you can’t travel on new bikes unless they are baggers, and blah blah. It’s crazy town, and that’s not the only perspective.
You can travel comfortably on any bike that you set up to be comfy for you! Don’t let anyone say you should ride this, you should do that, you cant ride that.
Ride free and ride what you love! Regardless of what anyone says, just enjoy your ride! 💚

Who the hell is Ironhead Sally? Well here's my channel description:
Old School Bikes and Old School Ways! Ride hard, wrench a lot, and always having a blast.
Bike camping, wrenching, and shenanigans. My husband and I create motorcycle content for people that are tired of seeing all of the fake insta accounts of sponsored boring yuppies. Here's some realness, we are just broke bikers living the low life and getting by. I ride a 1985 Ironhead Chopper as my daily, my touring bike is a 1984 FXR. We have lots of Ironheads and FXRs and are constantly building more, trying to keep these old neglected scoots on the road instead of rotting away in a garage.
Appreciate all the love & support

I rode a shovel for 20 years everywhere, then an evo for awhile, then a twincam for 13 years. I am old now, so I like the comfort of a newer bike, I put 98 thousand miles on my 2016 ultra. It gets harder as you get older. 64 and still doing it. Love your channel.

I travel to hell and back on my 05 Sporty. No shocks, no gauges, lots of dirt roads.
On one particularly good 3800 mile backroad ride I spent a couple days just navigating by the sun. I knew I needed to go south and west what more do you need. Went thru State forests on dirt paths over mountains, tried the the Trail of the Dragon, caught the old Smokeout, even ended up fording a creek. It was awsome.
The Sporty is up to the challenge, riders nowadays aren't.

One of my dear old pals rode his rigid frame '47 Knuckle Head solo from the west coast, to the east coast back in the late 1960's. All he had for storage was a pair of throw over leather horse bags tied on with bungees to keep them out of the spokes and a sleeping bag strapped to the sissy. And a tool roll of course. So, it's been done many times and can be done again if need be. I have always had great respect for him.

Dam right. The most fun to be had riding the frame on a hardtail. Lots of fuel and food stops. But there is a reason people call them Easy Riders!!! You are also right about lifestyle. I am the 66 year old guy with lots of choppers who just can’t give them up.

Hi 👋, Sally and Husband, In 1994/5 I purchased a 92 sportster, 1200. Then over the week I purchased a larger fuel tank, had it painted, While waiting for that, I fitted a Mikuni HSR 42 Rejected it, service the bike changing all fluids, Pick the tank up on a Friday night?, By Sunday, I was completely loaded., and rode down to Lake Garda, from the UK, Just over 1200 miles, took me nearly 4 days, I had a puncher, on the motorway, Luckily, I got Harley assistance, even that I must admit, was an adventure, Though it did take a day and a bit to get my new rear tire fitted, if you look after your bike, your bike will look after you, and give you many thousands of miles of enjoyment,
Ride Safe, and in 2 weeks time I will be back on the road,

All the RUB's are alive and well as they ride their new baggers, blasting music, on their one or two hour ride on the weekend. Heck I live in the south and some will tell me it's to hot to ride!! I carry half my tool box dispersed between my la rosa saddle bags and my decades old USA made leather tool bag that's seen more bikes('71 XS650, '81 XLH, '95 XLH, '06 FXDLI, '13 "48", '17 FXDF) in case I have to pull over and trouble shoot. I put a memphis shades 1/4 fairing unique to the Fat Bob without the windshield because I was commuting to work and back at 80+ mph on our local Interstate. I still get about 80% of the wind in my face, but I don't have to worry about my eye glasses with clipons getting ripped off my head. Like I said before, I loved my old iron head and my '95 evo 1200 because they had carbs and they were light and nimble. Fuck all that bagger weight and $$$!!

I put a tall sissy bar on it and everything went in a duffle bag I leaned on all those trips. No fairing. Far from a road bike. But it’s what I had back in 71. 👍

You know, I have watched a lot of the Roadkill show (and Roadkill Garage), which had inspired me to learn about all this mechanics stuff. It helped put into perspective that I can do this stuff. I am an artist, and I don't make much money in this economy doing that to support my lifestyle. I make it work though, and I am learning as much as I can to fix my motorcycle myself. Wanting to learn is how I found this channel, and I am glad I had.

They can't even buy a new Road Glide and ride it without spending another $1,000 for two shocks for the back of it. And then they're upset if a little air hits him in the face, honestly I wonder sometimes why some of them even ride motorcycles they ought just get a Cadillac or Lincoln and everything will be perfect.
You can cross the country on anything if you're tough enough to do it. I read this story in a magazine years ago about a guy that started out in South Florida on a Honda 250 Rebel, rode it to Las Vegas.

Really shouldn't be using silicone on your xl primary.

On sporties, the motor oil and primary oil can get mixed. Don't want silicone in motor, it can clog oil passages.

If my primary and motor oil is mixing, i have bigger issues lol. Thanks tho, not gooping gobs of it on, just dont want it to leak, these older original primaries have gouges that gaskets alone wont seal.

I don't remember if your sporty is an ironhead, mine is, and ironheads can have mixing between primary and motor oil. One reason to use same oil in both. When using silicone just use "fingerprint" amount to avoid excess floating around.

Speaking as her husband shes forget more about wrenching then you probably know, and if you've never owned an ironhead dont try to pretend you know anything about them. Take your negativity to someone else's channel
