Wow! I'm so used to seeing the built out jeeps and trucks that I almost forgot how cool it is to just toss some basic camping gear into the back of your truck and head out for a good time! Love Grandpa's truck and this type of adventure! Thanks Casey!
It’s hilarious seeing “Overlanding” rigs, it’s more like “overloading”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for cool shit and buying stupid unnecessary stuff but some of these guys go way over board. And the best part is most of them barely get out for more than 48-72 hours. I do more with just a backpack! But it’s all good, most of them probably get out more often than I do, I just find it amusing what people call “camping” these days. I really like seeing minimal gear and even some of the bushcraft type stuff.
If you don’t like watching overland vehicles.... don’t watch! Ever come to think that other people enjoy different things than you? It’s not a competition to see what’s the best way to enjoy the outdoors, or who goes out more often for longer periods of time..... to each their own. Go grab your backpack, and have fun..
When you sleep on a cot you still need insulation between yourself and the cot to stay warm. I use a self inflating roll up air mattress and it makes a world of difference. Great video and yes it is nice to have a large tent for space when circumstances afford it.
Please post pictures of you and your grand dad and dad during your camping trips. I have many great memories of my grandpa taking me and my brothers fishing and letting us run lose on his farm. We never went camping because he was 60 when I was born and had bad hips due to his cowboy days of breaking horses on the various ranches in Runnels county Texas. My dad was not a camper either so I got my start in camping with my HS buddies just going out in the country and sleeping and rabbit hunting. Being young, we could sleep on crushed rock piles and the likes. Always had a great time. Why I mentioned the pine burning, we camped on top of a little mesa that the High Way department dug out to make crushed rock for a new road in the county and we found dead wood, Cedar, and started sleeping around the fire until it starting popping chunks of burning wood into our sleeping bags! Nothing better than camping!
Hey, that was just great. My grandpa was in the Merchant Marines during WWI. I still use some of his old gear; folding shovel, canteen with pot in canvas case, and kerosene cook stove. It's amazing how full filling it is to bring his stuff along with me on trips. I also have his old double barrel 20 gage shot gun that he used on many hunting trips. Having your grandpa's truck brought a smile to my face and I could see how important it was to you. Thanks for sharing your "car camping " (not overland; can you tell I'm old) trip.
Im always entertained and a little jealous of you. There's not much open ground in my part of the country. It's mostly private land fences and gates. When I was younger it wasn't too restricted but anymore its mostly locked out.
The old truck has a lot of character. Love those. I have two Sierras of that generation. A 1/2 ton and a 3/4 ton with Dana 60 front. The engines on these things are fantastic.
This was a nice twist from your usual overlanding trips. It's nice to see an old truck in such good shape. And it shows that anybody can enjoy an overlanding trip without spending a fortune on equipment. Thanks again for putting these great videos out for all of us to enjoy.
I love seeing new parts of Oregon. I've lived and traveled in Oregon for 64 years and still do year-round camping. I also have a Gazelle T4 tent that I love. Thanks for the informative and fun videos.
Thank you. Yeah a lot of people just don’t realize how diverse the areas are in Oregon. We have a bit of almost everything from. Coastal rain forest to dry sand dune deserts. Cheers!

It’s Friday Jan 15 and I just got notification that my Softopper from #lolo will be delivered today! I’m excited, man! Thanks to Josh at Lolo and thanks to you, Casey!
I'm a fulltime nomad traveler/ overlander in a van. I use a Gazelle gazebo screen room with removable covers for the 5 sides. It's about 9.5' across. It pops up like your tent. I follow 70° temps as much as is feasible. I use the Gazelle as a kitchen and shower tent, it works great for my purposes, I use a Camp Chef stove/oven and bought the Gazelle because, being from the east I didn't know how much wind there was in the west.. I use the wall covers to block the wind. I wore out my first one in a little over 2 years of using it about 80 % of the time, set up in the sun and weather, I think that is a good lifetime for what i put it through. I'm now on my second one and am taking better care, with sealer and uv protection. I highly recommend their products. I sleep in my van ,so there is plenty of room in the gazebo for cooking, a shower/ bathroom area and lounging area large enough for 2 to 3 people. It's a great addition to my set-up. I've been following your adventures for quite awhile now , I'd like to meetup with you sometime in the future, in your area. Enjoy your adventures, happy trails.
My only grandpa would have been 120 today, yes 120 years old. He was an avid outdoorsman, but died very young. Never had the chance to hun or fish with him, I really missed out. How lucky you are to have those skills and more importantly the memories.👊👊🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great episode, enjoyed seeing the new setup. It's nice having the space to set up a little bedroom, stand up & move around, etc, but the Gazelle definitely has its downsides as well. Really cool you can roll with one setup or the other depending on what makes the most sense for a given trip.
Cowboy beans and franks next to the campfire, sounds like a Blazing Saddles evening. 😲 LOL! I can't say it enough, LOLO did an amazing job on Grandpa Vern's truck. Nice adventure. 👍🏻
Great video. Glad you got your Grandpa's truck. My Grandpa was a soldier. He started in the Pa. National Guard, chased Pauncho Villa in 1916 during the Mexican Campaign and then off to France with General Pershing in 1917. He was awarded two Silver Stars and other medals. He used to take me fishing and other adventures in the mountains of Pa. He passed right before he turned 92.
That’s great that you know that history about your grandpa. Amazing how much some of our grandfathers experienced in their lives. He sounds a lot like mine. Mine served as well.
@@CoyoteWorks01 You are so blessed to live where you do. Back in 69 when we graduated HS we took a road trip from Fl to Oregon with stops along the way. Spent a day at the Grand Canyon. I have an Oz Tent for several years. Same easy setup but with some tie downs for the wind. It is a Wall tent so you can have a fire out in front. I have they Oz Rv2 and have plenty of head room and cot space. It has a poly rim stop fabric which is water proof, not resistant, and if you are in need of visual space it works very well.
I’ve been looking really hard at those. I wanted to try the Gazelle but I think I may ultimately end up with an Oz Tent. I like the ability to put a fire in front of the tent for sure. Cheers!
I really enjoyed this one, I love to watch all of these episodes. I was born and raised in Lakeview and spent many a day out in the desserts around us. This brings me home.
