This should make it easier to move up and down as well as having a slightly better precision. this is amazing, I would advise at least trying to get a patent for it ASAP since it might become a pretty famous alternative to controllers in the future.
@@leophan2198 true but name one big company thats pushing the limits and trying to optimized controllers for play like this guy regardless of how you see it this is patent worthy cause if he can make it work properly and it becomes the standard he basically made himself a millionaire just by following his hobby
Although some of these ideas are out there already but I just want to add some : - Use matte paint to make your controller looks more professional - Use infrared mouse sensor so it won't illuminate - Mouse sensor quality plays a big role in accuracy, a basic gaming mouse sensor (ex: Logitech G102) is 100x better than an office mouse
Yeah this hopefully will be in the finall version because no touch pad or gyro technology can beat even a basic 3360 with 1000hz polling rate so if he puts a good sensor this could be insane
Problem is, hacking a part a more expensive mouse isn't an easy decision just to test things out. Though good gaming mice are definitely coming down in price. $35 on sale for a good Logitech
this is legit badass, nice job dude. impressive solutions. one thing i thought in the previous version where u have the mouse sensor tethered to the controller and the sensor moved by the thumb where the friction was too high did u consider high polish ceramic mouse skates? don't get me wrong i think ur solution is better just wondering if u considered it....i use high polish ceramic skates on all my mice and it's definitely a 20-40% friction reduction. i find it hard switching back to a standard set of teflon skates as i'm so used to the lower friction now. i'm a mouse kb player but i find what you've done here super interesting and clever as i love gaming and am an engineer by profession
also back thumbstick is a pretty clever solution but have u also considered momentary dpi shift button? some higher end mice like the logitech g series have this as a feature.
Just adding here, you should probably patent the general idea of these controllers. Seriously, this can be a great product one day, and you basically made it real, even if you don't make it a commercial product it would be great to register it.
@@techyesterday4960 I have a bit of experience modding controllers and seeing your work is not only an inspiration, it's mind-blowing, i can't imagine the hard work and dedication behind these projects, respect man!
Nice! I do want to add something that maybe you already thought of but didn’t mention. If you could instead of using the back analog for larger movements, you could just use pressure sensitive buttons( or tension plates) under the bearings. This would be in the effect of if you wanted to turn around quickly you could just press down and turn with one finger. So you could press down for large movement and not for micro movement(precision aiming). I have been thinking about something like this off and on for a while lol
steam controller vibes here. the steam controller also had something big. gyro support. this made a big improvement in aiming within FPS. it provides the fine tuning aiming needed. in idea the concept was to use the touch pads on the steam controller (like how you are using your thumb controls) to get on point or very close.. than the gyro to pull quick fine tune shot controls. maybe you should take a look at concept once you believe your have perfected the thumb control to add on top of that.
Just wanted to drop some encouragement. 🔥 Please please please continue working on THIS controller man. I think there is a reason why it has resonated with so many. I love the idea of sitting back, and not being restricted to a desk. I love gaming from my bed with my steam controller. I’ve been desperately looking for something like this for a long time. Waiting for the next versions! Please don’t give up on it! People would pay good money for this! 💰
I love this project and how it's evolving. It might actually make me try joystick FPSing again if I get one when it's finished. My two cents: When you're ready to go with a consumer product, please remember to make some system to keep the thumb mouse captive. People iz dum and will 100% lose it. Alternatively, make the base controller cheap and sell the spares separately and make it the main source of revenue.
Hey Tech Yesterday, if you plan on selling this project I would recommend working on drivers that are automatically installed when you plug the Mouse Controller into your computer for the first time.
I’m very happy to tell you, that it is indeed possible so convert the signal of the mouse sensor properly with very low costs. I was able to build a prototyp which works fine on PS4. The methode I used in my build could be used in any kind of controller (Ps4, Ps5, xBox…) Sadly you didn’t answer my email I send you a few months ago but maybe you are now interested?
Love this concept and wish more companies would experiment with input. We've been stuck on analog sticks for two decades with no real progress in replacing or augmenting them.
Most game developers even have trouble of implementing new control scemes like gyro or flickstick. They mostly get gyro wrong because they use rightstick value''s instead of mouse valaue''s. On the hardware front developers dont even seem to get that things like hall effect sensors are better then potentiometers. I still dont get why the steamcontroller failed. If you are willing to put in the time to learn steaminput the steamcontroller is greate. But i hated the form factor of the controller and the face buttons where hard to reach and to small. Thhe steamdeck has a greate layout but that only works because of the way you hold the device. I just wish more companies would try to make a gamepad like this with a mouse optical sensor and mouse accuracy.
I’m honestly more excited for single player capabilities as more K&M games could be played leaning back all comfy, but this is gonna change the multiplayer landscape for sure.
We've already had mouse accuracy in controllers since 2015 with gyro and there are videos out there of people nearly reaching up to 90,000 on aim lab using it. Even I reached a similar score to what you did on my FIRST TRY with the Dualsense, a controller which is readily available now. The steam deck is even using gyro as a selling point cos of it's accuracy and gyro is a simple non intrusive addition to a controller set-up that people are already use to. You're offering a thumb mouse controller with a back stick, I'm happy to be proven wrong but I just can't see your controller taking off.
@@Vinnay94 Gyro has been around that long but didn't gain real popularity with shooters til Splatoon came out in 2015. That same year some PC users started using the same implementation with the steam controller and Dualshock 4 on PC. The switch further boosted the idea with Splatoon 2, now nearly all shooters on switch have gyro due to large demand. You're right though, that gyro is not popular with playstation/xbox users. They just have no idea what they're missing
@@Vinnay94 Out of topic but an interesting thing to point out is, gyro is widely used and implemented on mobile shooters. In my time studying in south east asia where mobile gaming is more prominent among the youth. These guys can achieve really good aim on their mobile phones. One thing to consider is that most mobile games have little to no aim assist whereas consoles have more. Mobile gyro gaming has been a new feature since pubg mobile's release in 2018, then every game started implementing that as an optional setting, so it began to have widespread use bit by bit. I believe this will have a similar effect on controllers if Devs add an option for it. And one day, aim assist will be reduced just like what it did on mobile. But to do that, I agree with you that the controller needs a touchpad and gyro implemented so the player can make a choice
Serious question: wouldn't it be easier and more convenient (no thumb addon) to find the most accurate trackpad? The usual sides in the internet has a lot of round touch displays (original from smartwatches). With an arduino leonardo this should made a fine controller. Edit: it don't even has to be a round display, there are plenty small form factor (between 2 and 4 inches) screens out there, I bet at least some with a high quality glass like surface.
I would absolutely love to see this on the market for pro controllers. For me it hits just the right amount of portability vs. performance for use by professional players. I would love to see if you somehow got a professional FPS player to use it for a little and see how their aim labs scores compare to their normal kbm/controller scores.
I want to see your comparison in Aimlabs to a PS4 controller or a Steam Controller, that uses the Gyro in combination with the joystick/trackpad. Use the stick/trackpad for large movements, and the gyro for precise aiming. I appreciate the attempt to merge mouse technology with controller technology. Unfortunately I think that the Steam Controller actually almost nailed this down when it included gyro control with the trackpad. Now with the Steam Deck including everything a normal PS5 controller would have, along with the track pads, and extra back buttons that the Steam controller had, I think they've basically done everything that the mouse Controller could have hoped to achieve. The only thing that your controller does uniquely is the back joystick, and I'm really not sure if that's something that's needed or not. Maybe it's really useful, maybe not, I really don't know without trying it myself. I do know that once I realized how effective gyro+stick/trackpad was, my whole view of the steam controller, and gyro aiming/motion controls in general, was completely changed.
Why I would like to have this controller: I would like to have this controller to change my gameplay completery. rn I'm using a cheap mk and I don't like how my movement aren't very fluid and imprecise. Thats why I want this, I need this. Great video btw
I have an idea the best way to sello this to the industry is make It open source for 3d printing amd if you don't know how to properly 3d that I know is hard you can try to 3d scan It with you movile phone also if you wanna make a little money you can put the STL (the format of archive of a 3d model) and the instructions, the list of components, etc... For one dolar
Love the progress! I didn't think it could get better and honestly I was a little skeptical when I saw the thumbnail but damn you managed to do it! I personally find traditional keyboard and mouse pretty uncomfortable to use in longer sessions and this would be an amazing solution! As for changes I would make: - maybe some sort of lever that pivots inorder to hit the q and e keys on top of the controller with maybe your ring, middle, or pinky finger (could also be detachable so the controller could be adjusted according to personal preference) - a limiting slot for that back analog stick. Limiting it to only horizontal movement. I can see how in a firefight you might go for a quick turn and accidently tilt your camera up or down too far in a direction and disorient you and increase the amount of time you need to get on target. I wish I could help you on this project, but I'm furiously applying to jobs so that maybe I could land one in my major (comp sci). When you do finish it though definitely put it on your resumes for all the contributers! It will absolutely make you stand out! Good luck guys! Can't wait for v6!
Nice improvements! Some thoughts; Finally mentioned gyro, no mention of how good gyro is. For those wondering. 92k. ruclips.net/video/mGxRxn6IlMA/видео.html Thumb sock on touch pad eliminates the friction issue with touch pads, will weigh a lot less than having the disc. Steam Controller touch pad serves as the "fast turn" input that the rear stick does, gyro handles the precision. The benefit the thumb disc has over touch pad is more surface area, and this demonstrates my complaint with the steam decks touch pads; they shrunk the size of the touch pads on the deck a bit, which is not good. Even on the steam controllers touch pads I'd probably struggle to hit 50k, simply because of the lack of surface area needed to be both fast and precise.
I think the steam deck has touch sensitive joysticks that let you use gyro aiming when your thumb is placed on the stick. I could be wrong on that but that might solve the issue you have with it. I hope I’m right on it because I agree with you that touch pads seem way too small.
I use dualsense with flick stick and I think I have a similar level of accuracy to using MKB. what they've done here is super cool but IMO kind of unnecessary because gyro is just as capable, easier to implement, and way less cumbersome for the player.
I love the idea dude. I really hope you keep making new versions or even try to sell them widespread. I'd even buy one of the prototypes. I grew up using a KBM setup but I have back problems now, using a controller for FPS games is difficult and takes a lot of the fun out of it. Hope to see these on shelves someday!
I just love this guy, he's fighting our dream... To fight for better And against being lazy and confortable with the same. Keep it going... You're the greatest
Love it mate, can't wait to buy my own or make one. The Gyro thing seems like a logical next step. If the joystick on the back is designed for horizontal movement, could you limit the joystick gate to just left and right? If this is going to be a commercial project, time to hire a patent lawyer if not done so already.

Awesome as always. Just in time for the community showcase video I'm working on. Just a thought, could some type of threshold be added to the rim of the thumb mouse pad, so when you're at the rim it would act just like pushing a thumbstick all the way. That would eliminate the need for the extra thumbstick. Talking as someone who has never used the controller :)
@@techyesterday4960 Email sent. I was thinking that if can't get the mouse pad to act like a thumbstick, maybe you could cheat it by getting it to read different dpi settings on different parts of the pad. Maybe changing the geometry or colored rings could work to trigger it. I'll look into it more. It's soo close.
I think a Controller like this would be really useful in re2 so you can walk slowly to avoid clickers, but also have a higher prescion with the thumb mouse

Very interesting, great job! While I believe we can already get near-mouse accuracy with a controller with gyro + flick stick, this is a cool option for people who, for whatever reason, can't work with gyro. And of course, maybe a gyro sensor on this project could add even more for the experience.
Dude, I'm in love with the project. I know 2 guys with some of the skills you've asked for. I hope to see this on a kickstarter so that I can somehow contribute! Amazing work. Are you from USA?
It's awesome to see new developments like this, but I do think that gyro aiming combined with 'flick stick' large scale rotations using an analog stick has mostly made this a solved problem. Hopefully all this will see wide adaption in games moving forward and gaming will evolve fowards from just using a tiny analog stick
Hey, it's been a minute but i'm looking forward to your next improvement on that controller, do you have maybe a discord or a twitter where we can get some updates?
All I can think about when coming up with ideas to overcome large movement needs in a small form factor is the legendary trackball flick. This sounds like a recipe for complexity but maybe put a teeny trackball over the optical sensor, reverse the input direction and considering you get the friction low and the weight of the ball right, it may work?
Having two of these sensors on the back grip where you can roll back and forth sideways makes sense, your fingers is occupied, your thumbs are occupied, but you have your palm which is gripping the surface of the controller. What if you make the controller flexible in itself and can 'flick' by twisting or bending it? Or better yet, what if it's two controller joined with a sort of stiff cable attachment that is durable, but it's loose enough to 'twist and turn' both halves like motion controllers? This way you control your aim by 'twisting and bending' and aiming the right controller, almost at a joystick sort of level? You can get precise movements with slight motions, and fast turns with flicking motions. Think VR haptic feedback gloves but imagine a invisible tether between your left and right hand as your hands are forced to be together.
would choose this over Xim apex or Chronus max any day, nothing can beat couch gameplay with a controller instead of sitting in a chair with mouse and keyboard/ arms tired from being stretched out, i got a bad habit of rocking in my chair and it fuks my aim up completely with using mouse/ keyboard, I Need This!
random thought that just occurred: does having the joystick underneath make it harder to do quick vertical adjustments? It seems great for horizontal but less so for vertical
Hello Tech Yesterday!! I’m a mobile gamer and grew up with controller as well. I see that there really is a gap between utilizing a mouse and a a keyboard. Now with mobile gaming on the rise, there are more or less pros and cons. If you’re open, I’d like to chat to see we can come up with a solution for the future of gaming. Great work for just being a bro!! Super Impressive!!!!
I feel like the biggest drawback of this design is the thumb sock. Clearly, it works, but thinking in the average consumer's mind, how many people would find that acceptable? Of course, based on what we've seen from trackpads a sockless design just isn't accurate enough. You should have a look at the new steam decks' trackpads. It isn't out yet so it's hard to tell, but they are supposed to be much more accurate. Anyway, I love every single one of these videos and am so glad someone is trying to shake up the controller hellscape with viable designs and not some stupid gimmick.
i agree 1000%. v6 gets rid of thumb sock and has a self centering optical sensor. spring loaded. it makes a MASSIVE difference but took awhile to engineer so i didnt include it in v5.
I want this because my controller broke and I'm getting a new one in 1 day, but I wanna try the mouse controller because I've been wanting to switch to kb&m but I don't have a computer :( Also on aim labs I got a score of around 35k. I wanna get this mouse do I can get as good as you lol. If no, can you show us how to make it? Also I will use this to play R6S. Also can you make a ps4 one? And please sell ot on Amazon or something when you make more.
The back analog stick is such a great idea. I feel like it could be turned into two buttons though. The only thing you need it for is left/right movement so I feel that two buttons on either side of the grips would fulfill the same role without adding a huge thumbstick. Also Destiny 2 gameplay!
This looks very promising. Be sure and really consider the button layout. With the ADS being inherently off the R analog stick and your right thumb being dedicated to the mouse component, you are going to need adequate, well thought-out buttons exclusively on the top or back of the controller. Today’s shooters have a lot of inputs needed.
do you ever plan on selling a controller like this. I own two trackpad controllers that i have used on xbox. one is the original shotpad. Wich has a very bad tracpad that can does not have any way of making it more sensible. The second is the shorpad with added gyro. Iy has the same trackpad, but now you can adjust the settings. it has 3 normal settings with raw mouse input, and 3 with acceleration. The gyro has few good options. you can turn it of or on. you have the option of only activating when you press a button. It also ffers yaw, roll, and combine yaw and roll. The problem is that it is just a keyboard and mouse into a controller format. The steamcontroller was great because it is a gamepad with a trackpad. you could use steaminput to cusotmise everything. And now it is even supported by rewasd. The steamdeck is a massive improvement over the steamcontroller. But i dont know if the layout of the deck would work in a controller shape. you grip the deck higher then you would a normal sized controller. But your mouse pro controller would be perfect to use on xbox, playstation and on pc. But for pc a good software package that allows for different game configs would be great. And trigger stop the lets you choose analog triggers or short triggers wit a mouse lickk. For an axample of what i mean you could look at the flydigi vader 3. It has trigger stops that slide in a mouse switch on the shorter digital range.
Love the idea man, this is something more gaming and Accessories need to look at. Instead over adding more onto the game to level the playing field and change up the equipment. Like Nintendo has some of the same layout but different designs.
I'm a HUGE fan of gyro aim, but gyro does have its limitations. This controller is SUPER exiting to me as it subverts those limitations by going an entirely different route. Please manufacture and sell these things when you're satisfied with the design. I would happily spend 60$ on a finished controller like this possibly even more
The effect of large round turns can be easily obtained by software, just adding a progressive movement acceleration on the edges to the sensor. No need for a extra stick. Ps: I love this project, it's just amazing.
@@THYCR3AT0R this is a good solution too, but by software is possible to make the standard aim button be that button when pressed, so, there is no really need to a exclusive button to do that. There are several ways to solve it, I'm a programmer but, sadly, have zero experience with hardware interaction.
The rear analog could be replaced with a mini trigger perhaps. You don’t want to sell a product that needs a lot of setup with additional software, the controller will be dead in the water. You want this controller to be ready to use out of the box with very little tweaking. Consumers expect products to work out of the box without a large setup guide or additional steps.
Interesting, but I think you're over thinking it. Simply making a left hand controller that feels good would be enough in my opinion. I've been using a controller on left hand and mouse on right hand combo for a few years now, but something is still missing. I've looked everywhere and found nothing that will work. The closes thing is the splitfish fragchuck, but that thing looks off as well. My thought is a ps4 controller (That's what I have, so that's what I use) cut in half. Keep the share button and add another button to where the touch pad would be. Or maybe a smaller dpad instead of the two buttons. Also, an extra button where your middle finger rests.
I love this project and I would love to see this progress into the mainstream, also gyroscope aiming is just as comparable, I want both method to be the norm.

You might need to do it other way around, like smooth on the thumb pad and sticky on the controller...
Although some of these ideas are out there already but I just want to add some :
- Use matte paint to make your controller looks more professional
- Use infrared mouse sensor so it won't illuminate
- Mouse sensor quality plays a big role in accuracy, a basic gaming mouse sensor (ex: Logitech G102) is 100x better than an office mouse
Just by seeing the intro i can not put into words how amazing this is. Dude you are a genius.
Just adding here, you should probably patent the general idea of these controllers. Seriously, this can be a great product one day, and you basically made it real, even if you don't make it a commercial product it would be great to register it.
that means alot to me
@@techyesterday4960 I have a bit of experience modding controllers and seeing your work is not only an inspiration, it's mind-blowing, i can't imagine the hard work and dedication behind these projects, respect man!
I have been thinking about something like this off and on for a while lol
yo get this shit to the top
steam controller vibes here.
the steam controller also had something big. gyro support. this made a big improvement in aiming within FPS. it provides the fine tuning aiming needed.
in idea the concept was to use the touch pads on the steam controller (like how you are using your thumb controls) to get on point or very close.. than the gyro to pull quick fine tune shot controls. maybe you should take a look at concept once you believe your have perfected the thumb control to add on top of that.
Just wanted to drop some encouragement. 🔥 Please please please continue working on THIS controller man. I think there is a reason why it has resonated with so many. I love the idea of sitting back, and not being restricted to a desk.

I love this project and how it's evolving. It might actually make me try joystick FPSing again if I get one when it's finished.
My two cents:
When you're ready to go with a consumer product, please remember to make some system to keep the thumb mouse captive. People iz dum and will 100% lose it.
Alternatively, make the base controller cheap and sell the spares separately and make it the main source of revenue.

Gyro's been around since Wii Motion Plus and 3DS around 10 years ago.
Gyro hasn't taken off either. I want both to be Mainstream. Potentiometer Stick Aiming needs to leave.
Would love to see this become a retail product 🔥🔥🔥
Why I would like to have this controller:
I would like to have this controller to change my gameplay completery.
rn I'm using a cheap mk and I don't like how my movement aren't very fluid and imprecise.
Thats why I want this, I need this.

As for changes I would make:
- maybe some sort of lever that pivots inorder to hit the q and e keys on top of the controller with maybe your ring, middle, or pinky finger (could also be detachable so the controller could be adjusted according to personal preference)
- a limiting slot for that back analog stick.
Hey man...how's this awesome product progressing?
Nice improvements! Some thoughts;
Finally mentioned gyro, no mention of how good gyro is. For those wondering. 92k. ruclips.net/video/mGxRxn6IlMA/видео.html
Thumb sock on touch pad eliminates the friction issue with touch pads, will weigh a lot less than having the disc.

@@meep8026 gyro is amazing and all the issues he mentions are iradicated just using gyro aim his thing seems far more gimicy than gyro aim
Sad to see this project die, but maybe someone picks it up and does a better job
What happend to this awsome Project?
Any update ?
would choose this over Xim apex or Chronus max any day, nothing can beat couch gameplay with a controller instead of sitting in a chair with mouse and keyboard/ arms tired from being stretched out, i got a bad habit of rocking in my chair and it fuks my aim up completely with using mouse/ keyboard, I Need This!
random thought that just occurred: does having the joystick underneath make it harder to do quick vertical adjustments? It seems great for horizontal but less so for vertical
Unless you are doing backflips, I would think the range of motion with the mouse side of things will suffice for vertical aiming.
its designed for horizontal movement. the thumb mouse pad provides more than enough space for vertical movement.

Really usefull additions there, i love where this is going. Hopefully you can find some people for the next Version.
do you ever plan on selling a controller like this.
Or maybe just make a little button you hold, and while holding aim sens goes up
@@THYCR3AT0R this is a good solution too, but by software is possible to make the standard aim button be that button when pressed, so, there is no really need to a exclusive button to do that.
There are several ways to solve it, I'm a programmer but, sadly, have zero experience with hardware interaction.
@@THYCR3AT0R oh so like a dpi multiplier? Great Idea!
we have tried a software solution which worked, but worked ALOT better when combined with a physical button.
I have a feeling this is going to be revolutionary. No joke the creativity this guy has is insane.
