    Fair call and review, highlighting the strong points of both watches. For me, the Oris 65 has the more beautiful dial and boxed crystal, the Aquis is the better tool watch. I chose the Oris 65 over the Aquis when I tried on these two 8 months ago, as I thought the 65 wore on my wrist (7 1/4") just a little better. You can't go wrong choosing either watch though, your choice coming down solely to personal and stylistic preference. I am currently eyeing the Aquis, the green dial though, for variety :)

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 года назад

      Thanks for the thoughts there... pretty much agree with all you said, it does come down to some personal preferences. Honestly if choosing a day-to-day wearer, I think the 65 is the better choice. For tool watch credentials however the Aquis definitely has it in droves.

      The 65 is indeed a better overall size but I would say the Aquis is just as (if not more) unique. Nothing else has those crown guards and lugs, nor that bracelet.

    Love both watches and I also 99% completely agree with you on your evaluations and scoring. If you ask me, I would prefer to have the 65 only because I am a sucker for a good vintage looking watch. When 65 came out, I almost bought one immediately, but strangely, more I look at it, more of youtube reviews I see, the look was getting old quite fast, so I decided not to buy. however, the biggest factor that made me not to reach into my pocket was the bracelet. it just seems too...mmm... incomplete?! I mean.. it kind of goes with the look of the watch, but the way 14" last links fall radically off from the other top links and push pins, and another very generic clasp...etc. if they would had better looking, functioning with bit more inventiveness, certainly I would have bought one without any consideration. As for Aquis, yes, very solid looking watch that scores all the marks, but again, I just have too many of similar types of submainer type watches....(mostly micro brands).
    in my opinion, if Oris can expand that 65 line up bit more with better bracelet, more functional and inventive clasp and if they can turn down the lugs, just a coupe of mm down, that would fit much better and it would look more vintage and better, IMHO.
    also, if they can make 12/3/6/9 to applied indices, that also would look very different along with big stronger and fatter looking hour hand. but again, this is only my subjective point of views, so I am sure many would disagree....
    anyway, 65 was a great concept and very well done. just if they could continue to expand and modify it in a very innovative and unique ways, then, I believe they will continue to be successful with this 65 line up.
    thanks Ivan. hope to get something more interesting in next review.

    Excellent comparison, as usual!
    I have owned two Aquises (Aquii?) and just couldn't get in tune with the bracelet's proprietary lug attachment system. I like switching straps as the mood strikes me and I find the Aquis' non-standard lugs to be a royal pain in the butt. I had a tri-lobe screwdriver for the Gen 2 Aquis (why Oris? why?!) and it just made things unnecessarily complicated when I wanted to switch over to the excellent rubber strap. The Gen 1 was a little easier due to the standard slotted screw head. I haven't had the pleasure of owning a Sixty Five but the time I had one on my wrist at a local dealer, I liked it a lot. It's got an elegant design and it fit my wrist very nicely. But what I am not fond of is the Old Radium luminous paint that comes with almost every Sixty Five. I've had several watches with that faux patina and I can't say that I ever warmed to it. Maybe one day Oris will release a C3 or BGW9 lume variant of the Sixty Five, and then I will be more interested. Of course, I'm faced with the prospect of a 21 mm strap for the 42 mm variants of the watch, another minor irritation. It's always something with Oris, isn't it?

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 года назад

      Thanks for that... haha I totally get what you mean about often something being "off" with Oris! :)
      I love the bracelet and don't feel the need to change it on my Aquis, but for people who like to swap out bracelets this watch would be a strong not-recommend from me. The Diver 65 is lovely, but yeah it would be nice if they put out some more modern looking ones with white lume :)

    Thanks, another excellent review. Considering your results, I would agree the value prop seems in the Aquis camp yet the 65 is priced somewhat higher. Surely that wonderful domed crystal does not represent all of that discrepancy, otherwise it seems like apples and apples. What am I missing?

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 года назад

      Thanks for that Jeffrey... yeah I am not sure myself why there is a price discrepancy here, especially since this 65 model also has a printed dial, albeit it is a convex dial. I also think the bracelet on the Aquis *must* cost more to make. So go figure... maybe they had to splurge out quite a bit more when marketing the Diver 65.

    Great and fair review! I looked at both but the 65 stole my heart, it's a case of sheer chutzpah I think and that's hard to define in a head-to-head review. In the 'heritage' stakes I think Oris achieved something really special in the 65, something that though harking back is actually far more versatile as I've worn it at the beach, in a fancy reataurant and in a boardroom and it carries it off so well. Thanks again, great review :)

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for that Cameron - yeah if there was a versatility mark in the comparison there is no doubt that the 65 would have taken that. As for "chutzpah" haha that would be more challenging to include as a mark! :)

    Yes, as others have said a very honest and frank appraisal of two really great watches, however the heart tends to win over the head, the one category you didn't have was the 'X Factor' or feel good factor or what ever you want to call it and the '65 Heritage would win that hands down. So much so that I've purchased a '65 Heritage with the wonderful 3, 6, 9, 12 dial. Thanks again for a great review.

    I don’t own an aquis but I do own previous gen small sec diver 47mm and D65 here. Bravo to you for this video, cuz judging both is a tough task. One is true tool diver and D65 is more of a desk diver by depth rate. Aquis style is iconic and Original to Oris modern diver today but all steel it is a hefty watch by weight. D65 is joy to wear daily. This initial release design is far better than current offering of diver 65. Personally I think Oris made a mistake tone down D65 with less unique design.

      Perth WAtch Retro font dial on D65 is just “original” notable too. It is an incident recognition. Pure Oris and not homage of other divers. Current offering is similar to other diver watches on market today. This version is great.

      @@PerthWAtch No personal experience with Oris. However...
      I had to look a little deeper into the 'Why' of the proprietary band, after becoming aware of the Aquis. So a quick review of Oris offerings on Jomashop showed that Oris makes plenty of on non-integrated bracelet watches including the Oris Diver and Diver 65. Both with 100 meter wr. What jumped out at me was how differentiated the Aquis is from the two 100 M desk divers, as a well as, the brass the company has to call both snorkeling watches, 'Diver' by model name.
      With this little snapshot into Oris, I've seen enough. The ruling is- Oris used band integration to avoid cannibalization of their other so-called divers, given their similar price and shared off-the-shelf movement.
      Additionally, it should be a watch world crime to make changes between their proprietary Aquis bracelet and rubber strap so bloody involved. Thank you, Seiko!

Whereas in the diver 65 Heritage model that domed crystal is such a beauty (the refraction it creates, the dial with that font is unlike most other watches. The case, hands are nothing unique but nice retro, but in combination with that crystal and dial really stands out and ups the game.

      @@PerthWAtch I agree the lugs and crown guards are a unique design element. But those integrated lugs with those tri head screws were actually a put off as it restricts options of regular straps. As for the crown guards it really isn't a major design element for me, it's rather a small design element for any watch. The diver 65 with the tropical rubber is such a nice summer and beach vibe weekend watch and on weekdays with a nice leather strap also is awesome at work. It's unique and versatile and after seeing the font style and domed crystal... I just couldn't settle with any other Oris watch. The Aquis compared to the diver 65 with the regular circular indices might have come up on top.
