I find it funny, my career was as a correctional officer. Years of walking cement floors and unfortunately a fair amount of standing in body fluids. 🙊
We were issued traditional aggressive "tactical boots" with a small heal.
We would have been better with a wedge sole, actually a completely different boot then any of us were wearing. The things you learn after the fact 🤷‍♂️🤠

Mike and Jeff, I really appreciate all the info. The podcast from the consumer point of view is amazing!
I'm a Fuel Tech, (Which is a IT guy that gets dirty, Lol) I get a small splash of diesel or gasoline on the vamp area, I'm on my knees on outdoor concrete, and I hang out on a ladder for a few hours when programming in a rack. All of these activities are from time to time; nothing really constantly, all day every day.
I walk mostly on outdoor concrete and various hard flooring in convenience stores.
I live in a dusty area of the Texas Panhandle. The temperature swing here is ridiculous, this week alone it was snowing Tuesday and 78° Saturday.
I'm thinking of having Frank's build me a T1 with a toe cap, in all smooth. With the addition on toe cap, I feel I could use most leathers from a company like Frank's. I'm contemplating on which sole to use as well; Honey, White X, or V-100?
I'll be getting some over boots for when things get really dirty; or just switching to my rubber boots.
Would you mind giving some thoughts and recommendations, gentleman? Maybe there's something I might better consider?
    Thanks!

I would look at not LTT model with a whitex or honey. Stick with darker leathers to hide stains and I think you would be pretty good with a oiled latigo or Seidel work leather. Height is a personal question but this looks like a 6/8 inch to me and I would avoid a safety toe unless required and you feel you need it.

      I agree with Mike.
T1 might be overkill for you. T2 is probably more than thick enough and will give more flexibility. You might consider what they call a "lineman's shank" because of the ladders. It essentially makes the bottom waist area flat for the rungs, instead of the normal rounded bottom waist area. Also for flexibility I suggest ordering that leather toe cap a half inch shorter than normal so the leather toe cap is definitely not in the area your foot bends.

I was told the honey sole is not rated for oil resistance so I don't think it would be a smart choice. The white x and standard v100 are oil resistant. I'd probably choose a standard v100 just because texas doesn't see prolonged cold temps like the northern states.

@@polar330 I don't think any of the Lug options are really oil/slip rated compared to the mass market junk out there. I don't think it will matter as much as the surface I'm always on.
As well, most of Texas doesn't even get cold, especially compared to some the Northern, Midwest, and North East states. Although it really surprises most people that it gets down to zero with a 50 mph wind and that sucks to be in no matter where you live, lol.

😔 😔 I'm so sad this is still happening. We remastered this video b4 posting to help with audio. I listed to it on my computer and phone and I hear no difference. The next one will have settings tweaked b4 recording. (we have already tweaked and experimented). But we didn't hear issues here either. Dang-it!
There is supposed to be a setting in YT now to compress sound on your end to equalize what you hear. I'm not sure where that setting is, but maybe I'm already using it is why my sound is better than yours? 🤔

Still a few spots where I couldn't hear what he said or where he was saying "don't use leather soles for..." and then didn't say what exactly, but I guess I get the point. Um, some people may KNOW what to expect they might encounter at work but then I guess the other people who encounter something unexpected might consider their boots ruined if they are NOT work boots but get hydro fluid on them or encounter rocks like scissors on a hike when they wore something more casual, etc., but then we're not so much in a cleaning situation necessarily. Um....... I guess I would feel confident getting some bison LTT hiking boots even if they don't get used as much elsewhere?

Some the PNW companies seem to only want to offer roughout for pretty much everything, so I guess that might be part of the reason you don't buy from them?

    • @Mike-BiB
      @Mike-BiB 5 месяцев назад +1

Rough out has its place but it's not a first choice for me. Hiking wise I think bison boots would work pretty well I think sole is gonna be your harder choice based on where you are hiking. In terms of leather sole I am a big fan but I am well aware of the limitations based on what I am doing. If you have questions drop them here we will try and answer them.

As for when to not use leather soles wet/water, chemical, super cold, super hot, mud, super dusty or very fine particles, and uneven or rocky terrain.

@@Mike-BiB I've mostly already decided to go with the honey soles on PNW for all-around use. Maybe in the future I'll try the white X, but otherwise most of my boots came with some version of the studdy Dainite or mini-lug.
I was trying to refer to that specific spot or two in the vid about the leather, but overall I think most of us avoid the leather already, anyway just on principle, etc.

@@Mike-BiB I had asked a bunch of other questions about kilties and fit and such in the previous installment regarding 55 lasts and such.
