    Put in timestamps in case you want to get straight into my thoughts on the stories themselves, but I think it is important to discuss what has ended up being an incredibly confusing and messy release.
    My order for the new comics
    1/ A Change in the Wind
    2/ Cat-Owl's Cradle
    3/ Skyscrapers
    4/ Weaver's Ball
    5/ Wisdom

    I hope next comic book will feature fire nation royal family. I realized we know next to nothing about young Iroh II or Izumi. Katara Aang family has been fleshed out but not fully as well Tophs. But Zuko family is blank. And I hope Sokka Suki had family. Just because it was not shown in Korra does not mean Sokkas family is not there. Korra had no idea that Tophs had another daughter Su Yin with family.
    I hope we get comic featuring young Izumi or Iroh II the way we got young Tenzin. Also I hope we meet Zukos granddaughter.

    Really enjoyed all the new stories we got. I felt they all were relatively strong, particularly compared to the Avatar Tales ones we got. Weaver’s Ball was probably the weakest for me, but still solid getting a Szeto mention and seeing who Korra’s firebending teacher was. The art was interesting. Some of the designs for the kids at the festival felt like they didn’t quite fit in this universe. Particularly the jerky kid with the blonde hair, felt more like a character out of Frozen than Avatar.
    Definitely needed to give other characters moments to shine. Getting Jinora, Bumi, and Yasuko was great but I definitely want more.
    From the cover to the press release, I really hope DarkHorse improves on communicating what’s actually in their comics. Especially with the cover, I hope they don’t start leaning too far into using Korrasami to sell the book, but then not having much Korrasami content inside.

    I would really love to have this comic.
    it's quite sad that it's the only thing about LOK especially in a special anniversary year. but I'm so happy it's finally out. God! long waiting for this comic! for me it was totally worth it, there are many good things that leave me quite happy. I agree that "a change in the wind" is the best story here, I love those little Korrasami moments And of course, I think they gave a good contribution to the characters. I also loved seeing Korra younger, I think there is a lot to talk about at this stage and I have always liked to think more deeply about what her childhood was like.
    I really liked the other stories too, a deep side of Meelo, his parallels with Bumi. Also the story of Yasuko and Asami, they are adorable!

    Even though I don't have the comic yet myself, I was still fine with watching this since they are short stories rather than something very in depth like the comic trilogies or novels (for Dawn of Yangchen, I had to stay completely away from your spoiler review for weeks until I had finally finished the book). Even though I found out from your early review already about the lack of Mako and Bolin, it's still feels very salty and rubs me the wrong way everytime you mention that both of them don't appear at all in the entire comic even though the description says that they do as part of Team Avatar. I do not like false advertising in any capacity so I can't even imagine what other fans are going to experience and react when they discover that themselves picking up the comic and not knowing that piece of information coming in for their first time. That was completely bad on their part.
    It's very cool to have a Szeto reference in Korra's era for the first time I will admit (even if its very minor). Szeto's Theory of Grain Distribution...has a nice ring to it and definitely sounds like something that would be associated with Szeto given how intelligent and diplomatic he was for an avatar. Gotta love book smart avatars and would be cool to see more of them (I suppose Yangchen is also somewhat of a book smart avatar, but Szeto definitely stands out to me in terms of being the most clear example of that). Pretty cute to see 13 year old Korra.🙂
    Even though I'm still bummed that we don't see Guru Laghima's face, it's cool to physically see him on the page for the first time ever. I really want to learn more about him (especially with the fact that he keeps showing up as a reference several times in the novels...and the fact that another Avatar villain like Chaisee also reads his work is really cool...I'm dying for more lore on him!)

      I wholeheartedly agree my friend. For me the young Asami and Guru Laghima were my takeaways. Young Korra and Jinora's one-shot with Korrasami were cute but I still feel these stories were not precisely what most fans would probably want, especially since the delays and advertising left much to be desired.
      Mako and Bolin should've been in them and the cover... my God the cover should've been a story all on its own! Korrasami shouldn't be a cash-grab, it should be touching, romantic love story between these two women❤️💙

    Off topic, but Avatar News put up more live action casting, and included “injured water tribe warrior” and “earth bender prisoner” for episode 7. This definitely implies Bato, with maybe Haru. I definitely they would remove those episodes and expand on the more important ones.

    Wait, I didn't know it was confirmed that a story from *this* book had to be rewritten completely. I thought the info about them unsuccessfully pitching a darker story was not related at all to Patterns in Time and more of a separate thing (or maybe even related to the new Korra one-shot trilogy, by pitching a darker story among the one-shots).

    • @AirspeedPrime
      @AirspeedPrime  2 года назад +5

      I may need to rewatch the panel, but as far as I know that writer has only done Skyscrapers, they said they had to start again. I guess it depends on how they get "assigned" stories, was she always doing a Yasuko story or did she initially pitch a random dark story.
      It feels a bit weird if they pitched a new story, in that that would be sort of revealing a new project we don't know about.

    • @AirspeedPrime
      @AirspeedPrime  2 года назад +5

      I rewatched it again, I definitely took it as her saying her original script for the book she did for Patterns was too dark and she was told by Dark Horse to rewrite it. I would be very surprised if she just openly talked about a random pitch for some other Avatar book, she even asked earlier in the panel if she could talk about Skyscrapers the book she was there to talk about.

    Do they touch Korrasami at all? Or is the cover the only treat for fans! I have pre ordered the book from Amazon. :)

      A Change in the Wind has a few moments, but Korrasami is not the focus of any of the stories. So yeah, the cover is just a random image really.

      @@AirspeedPrime Thank you for replying. That's sad though. I sometimes feel that Korra is the neglected child of the Avatar franchise. 😞 If you look at the release date debacle, they clearly treated the Aang books as priority. I do love Aang. But I love Korra too. And I love Korrasami just as much as I love Kataang. 😀

    @airspeedprime I've been getting increasingly more annoyed with "Avatar News". As of the time that I am writing this commmemt; 3 days ago Avatar News made a RUclips channel. Eventually that channel is going to get very popular and they will begin to start monetizing it and make money of off being "the news" for Avatar. My issue is two things:
    1) in my opinion, your channel is the best source for Avatar News (other than thr fact that you're not an "insider")
    2) .....why doesn't Avatar Studios have an official Instagram or RUclips channel?
    It's beginning to get a little confusing. Avatar News is clearly just a well connected fan. But they are not Avatar Studios

      The stories are set at different times. You get young Korra early in her training you get her a few years before the show starts and some post Book 4 stuff.
