Just discovered your channel after searching "pixel 5" and absolutely loved your originality and fresh take. But 8 mins in, I saw your t shirt and realized you're a fellow Coog!!! With more reason you'll be my go to tech reviewer now. Pre oredered the Pixel 5 and my only concern was a report of the plastic finish rubbing off the corners after a couple of weeks only. Hope its an isolated case. Thanks and Go Coogs!
Honestly the longest part of setting up my Pixel 5 was disabling all the suggestions, "nor playing", and turning 3 button navigation back on. I was getting ads disguised as suggestions, and a super intrusive google assistant, making the phone nearly unusable. I also had to install Nova launcher just so I could get the search bar off of the home screen, and change the clock widget.
There was always this talk about how stock Android is so superior to the other reskins but how different is the experience really? Do I just get a different look for my control center and settings menu? For the home screen and app drawer, you can always use a launcher anyways. I never have used a Google phone in my life but from what I can tell, other Android phones are fast especially these days so I don't know how good the stock OS vs that practically speeaking.
I had the S20 FE and returned it to get the Pixel 5, and honestly, I'm so happy I did. The Pixel 5 is so simplistic. You cannot beat stock android. Ive always used Samsung phones, then I went to the Pixel 2 XL and that was my favorite phone Ive ever used. Then I went back to Samsung and I really missed the Pixel. So here I am back to the Pixel and I couldn't be happier. Don't let specs on paper make your decision. Go to best buy and play around with the demo's then make a decision. The Pixel 5 is amazing. I hope this helped anyone that's on the fence about purchasing a new android device!
I agree it is a better deal for someone who wants a reliable and takes good pictures Android phone. Just wish the 4a had another camera. The 4a 5G has it but it's more.
I just picked up the Pixel 5 Thursday, and loving it already. This is my 3rd Pixel (Pixel 2 and 4XL) and at this point am pretty loyal to their team. I have been very disappointed in the face unlock on the 4XL, so that's the main thing that drove me to the P5 this year. Also, I don't mind the "lower end" processor, as I don't usually do super heavy CPU tasks. Although the lack of the dedicated photo processing chip will suck.
Just want to say that I am so glad to have found this channel. You make great honest and actually helpful reviews and come across as really authentic, while also being super professional. Hats off good sir.
Great review Jimmy. The only things I seem to feel uneasy about is the lack of active edge. That was one of my favourite features on my 2XL. I wonder how the screen resolution compares to the 2XL too.
Great review. I just happen on this video searching pixel 5 reviews. Never do you hear a reviewer say go elsewhere to see a camera review. I like your truthfulness and not trying to be something your not. New sub here.
Every Pixel phones does the processing once you take photos I don’t get why people are addressing this now all of a sudden.. It did this since the very first Pixel.. in fact Both my Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 takes longer to process photos than 5 lmao
People are addressing this because the Pixel 4 and 4XL had a special image processing chip that made it much faster, which has been removed on the Pixel 5.
@@TechArtAlex No people who switched from even the Pixel 2 or Pixel 3 are addressing this as well, I have both of them myself and the difference isn’t even noticeable with Pixel 5 actually processing them faster than both. No one really talked about this processing time with previous Pixel phones now they just knit picking just cos it has a SD 765G chip.
while i agree with you, to be fair its comparing a 2018 phone to a 2020 phone so really any 2020 phone will be better than the xs max. Im not trying to take away from the p5 quality though, it really is amazing, just probably not the best comparison he used here
@@Nexifyy Okay I understand your thought process here, but consider that the pixel is using the same sensor for 4 generations and is also retailing for around half the price of what the iPhone XS max did at launch. Thats pretty damn good if you ask me. And if it isn't for you, buy the iPhone.
I went from iphone 7 to 11 pro and lol the camera looks artificial 😩 I have a proper mirrorless camera and it looks more smooth... it looks artificially sharp on the 11 pro lmao... I haven’t tried it properly though, when I go in photographer mode it usually only happens outside. yeah I haven’t been outside 👀
@@Nexifyy I just upgrade my 2XL to the Pixel 5 and my 2XL never took crappy pictures like the Max he used. Never. I'll say it again so you understand. Never.
I'm italian, so i had to buy the pixel 5 from France. It will arrive somwhere nead the end of november/early decembre... And i can't wait to use it, coming from a oneplus 5 i sincerely look forward to its battery and cameras!
Houston eh? HELLO from Central Texas! This was a solid review. Bought a Pixel 5 about a week ago and just waiting on the case to arrive before rolling it out. 😀
@@Heelfan71 Hi Michael, yes 100% happy with it! Love that I can charge my pixelbuds on the back and links with Pixelbook too (probably would with any chromebook). Took me a little while to get used to the size because it is a little bit smaller than 2XL but I don't even notice that now! Great battery life, I haven't been stuck with low battery at all!
@@seankeogh6186 Digging mine....only thing I miss from the Pixel 2 XL is squeezing the sides to get to google assistant.....And I keep missing the finger print reader due to the slightly smaller size......I did find a app that may make the side squeeze work....gonna try that and see. android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/bring-back-squeeze-gesture-for-google-assistant-your-pixel-5-no-root-needed-0384110/
In my opinion one of the best reviews out there of the Pixel 5. Other videos are putting it up against other flagships and comparing a few percentages in battery difference, a couple milliseconds of app opening time, etc...etc...etc... Honestly, stuff 90% of phone users worldwide don't care about. You hit the nail on the head by just explaining that this is a good android phone, easy and fun to use, great camera for everyday use and even though has a smaller chip, does the job just fine for the upcoming years. I switched from Iphone to Pixel 3 xl a couple years back and loved the pixel phones ever since, Pixel 5 is on their way to my house in a few days!
@Swagitupson Yeah mate I was sceptical about the speakers, because of the reviews & because I binge watch alot of content. Not as good as px3 speakers but it's decent enough. The slow processor when taking pics don't really bother me & the battery life is really good. My px3 had horrible battery life. I don't really care about high end specs etc this smartphone works in perfect for me
I happened upon this video while considering what I am going to upgrade to (Pixel 4a 5G or Pixel 5) from my Pixel 2. This was probably the most honest review I have seen so far, and it was without someone yelling at me over camera like a lot of tech reviewers. Instantly subbed. Very good work, thank ya!
I'm currently using a Pixel 3 XL ,I'm enjoying my experience with the phone a lot but since Android 11 update The phone got a lot slower and buggy. I don't want to upgrade because I'm enjoying the phone but I just might if future software updates don't addresses my issue! Btw your videos are logical and enjoyable to watch keep the great work man!
I've also got the OnePlus 7T, but was thinking of upgrading as well, but do I really need to. Apart for the wireless charging and 5G, the 7T, has better spec.
I have the OnePlus 7 pro and still got the pixel 5. I traded in one of my older Pixels and got $350 off through Verizon. This phone is awesome...if you can get it for the right price I would say go for it.
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy s10 and I'm seriously thinking about going for a Google Pixel 5 just for something different and it's nice to support other phone companies that are not Samsung and iPhone
I didn't think I would subscribing to any channels while looking for reviews of the Pixel 5 but you changed that. Looking forward to future reviews. For what it's worth, I got the phone for $480 CAD plus tax (15%) and the Pixel 5 here in Canada is being sold by carriers at $900 plus tax. Can't complain. They way it's set up it would be the same price for a Pixel 4A with my carrier (monthly cost instead of upfront). There's a lot of people trashing the utility of of wireless charging and I suspect that for the average consumer it makes no difference, but for those with health conditions that affect fine motor skills - this is a feature that makes a world of difference. Same with the recent accessibility updates.
That was a really honest review. I was thinking about switching from Samsung to google because I basically use my google account for everything and since I also use my google account on my android phone both samsung and google are farming my data. I wanted to switch to a google phone because they have my data anyways no matter what so in my opinion there's no need in getting another company like apple or Samsung and especially not Huawei involved when it comes to data. I think this phone might be exactly the phone for me. All I need is Spotify and RUclips and I'm happy so I definitely don't need the latest and greatest processor
i'm upgrading from a Pixel 3 to a Pixel 5 :) looking forward to getting the new phone! Also, nice review! easy to follow and didn't boggle my head with useless information :).
just got pixel 5 and I love it! Perfect for me! Had pixels before but took a brief hiatus with galaxy 10 but was reminded of how much I hate the software experience. Glad to be back home with Google. Never leaving again.
Going from a pixel 2 to the 5 it's a great evolution of the line. Familiar experience, and fun fact, the 5 it's the same physical size as the 2, just more rounded corners. Enjoyed the review. Thank you for correcting your chip comment 👍👍 I'll sub for sure
I have a Redmi note 7 pro and installed Pixel experience custom-rom in it. Now I have a Stock-Android experience at a very cheap price. And it works flawlessly.
Have a pixel 3 Xl. Love it. This will be my next phone! I am a non nonsense user. Loved my Pixel 3 and this 5 will be perfect for me. Thanks for the review.
I upgraded from a Pixel 2 XL since my updates had just stopped and at least waited for the Black Friday sale to get it for $650. I had watched countless reviews on how amazing the battery on this phone was, and I was losing 30% overnight on standby in 6 hours' time. After the fifth day of this, I was able to call and get it replaced under warranty and I couldn't be happier with this second device. This phone is definitely worth the price since I plan to keep it for 3 years.
@@MorganWalser yeah in canada its 800 CAD (about 599 USD) and with the black Friday deal its prob going to be around 600 - 700 CAD (about 450 - 525 USD) with koodo
As an owner of the Pixel 5 I can say that this review is spot on. Its a really great user experience. Great battery. I love the look and feel. I feel like a lot of reviewers get caught up on the specs and price and forget that it's one of the best phones to use and has performance that 99% of users would be happy with.
Great video, I have had the Pixel 4a rooted for almost 3 months now and it's a fabulous phone, I made the switch from the 11 pro and do not regret it! I recommend any of the Pixels....for the price the 4a is a no brainier!
Looking forward to seeing how it holds up for my girlfriend, she ordered a Pixel 5 just recently from Verizon. I've had a Pixel 4 XL for just over a year now and I've loved the experience as a former Samsung user.
Had this phone for a week, Great Battery, Great Camera, Great Software, Mediocre Screen, Trash speakers - UK gave a free pair of Bose QC 35's though so that removed the cost issue here.
Did you get them yet. I've heard you have to wait 2 weeks before you can apply and then it can take up to two months to get them. That is if there are any left.
@@AlexMoscow9mmpr Just apply as soon as you take delivery, they approved mine but still said it would take ages for them to arrive. Their wording seems to vary from two weeks from point of order to two weeks from delivery so I just applied anyway. They text you confirmation.
Thanks for the great honest review! I'm going to upgrade from my Pixel 2 XL to the 4a 5G here in the UK as Google was offering a free Bose QC 35 II headphone with it. If not for that, I would go for the 4a as it's incredibly cheap at only £349 at the moment.
Just bought one of these recently and it stands up well today. So small and good looking. Camera is still decent and the performance is just fine and dandy. I think at the price it is now.. it has finally become worth buying.
I bought a new phone last week to replace my Sony XA2 Ultra 6" that was two years old. I am not a flagship type of guy. $400 would be my price cap on any cell phone. Came down to Moto Power ($220) or the Pixel 4a ($350). After much deliberation, I spent the extra money and went with the 4a. Clean. Simple. Feels good in the hand. Couldn't be happier. I just realized that I don't need all the bells and whistles with a cell phone. I don't care about gaming on phone. I also don't need a huge screen anymore. Pixel 4a does everything I want it to do for me. Love it.
I have the pixel 5 in my hands right now just arrived today. My personal opinion the quality of the speakers is fine but there is a noticeable imbalance when using your phone in landscape for watching videos or playing games. It's really a volume imbalance issue and not a quality issue. If just listening to music it's not an issue. I should add if the types of games you play are games like among us, it would not negatively affect you.
@Phillip Conroy i had this phone for a week but had to return due to some nasty stuttering that I didn’t expect from a brand new £600 phone. Screen sometimes became almost unresponsive to the touch at times. The under display speaker is noticeably worse during an actual phone call compared to when its playing in sync with the bottom firing speaker. I wasnt a fan of the speaker tbh but its not a deal breaker
Still using a Pixel 1 XL, the battery is the real troublemaker now. It tends to switch off around 40-50% sometimes. The coating on the back is really messed up, but it gives it a post-apocalyptic look if you like Fallout... A little slow now, HDR image processing takes around 5 seconds after you take a picture. So 1 second is a great improvement. Otherwise, still a good phone for a 5 years old piece of tech.
I already own the pixel 4a, which I absolutely love to use, but I confess that I've had the pixel 5 in the online shopping basket so many times. I love that sorta sage...
Nice video. Just a heads up. You kept saying that the 4a has the same soc chip when in fact, the 4a the snapdragon 730g, while the pixel 5 has the snapdragon 765g . Don't wanna mislead anyone. Thank you again for a good video sir..
I'm coming from a Pixel 2XL and honestly the only reason I'm upgrading to the 5 is because of the lack of support with updates in the future. Love the Pixel line and I'm excited to try out the latest and greatest. Edit: it's fantastic.
Best Buy offered this to me at $599 when I went in. This was without a trade-in. I am happy with this at that price. That said, the phone over heats a little from super prolonged use, so we will see how longevity goes.
I received my Pixel 5 about ten days ago and I can say that I am very pleased. Here in the United Kingdom, I also received Bose headphones worth around £ 200 as a gift. Good phone and good deal 👍
@@yoragamihatsu8057 there is a very small difference in battery and I have seen that it can actually get worse screen on time then the 4a5g because if lower screen refresh rate
Plain and simple , highlighted aspects of the phone as well as providing an HONEST opinion that makes sense. Pixel 4a seems no different that the 5 other than hertz . Great video sir
As a Pixel 5 user just wanna say I'm soo happy with my Pixel 5, it's a 5G handset, great build quality, great screen, great software, amazing camera, the video capture is amazing and the battery is soo sick, check it out! Also people keep moaning about the price, well for me I got it essentially for £399, in UK for limited time offer you get free Bose overhead wireless headphones which I've sold for £200 so I've essentially got my Pixel 5 for £399! £399 for a Pixel 5! How much of a bargain is that! Buy of the year for me! Best phone I've ever had by miles
Yes, I did not even need a new phone but bought it as I also had £140 of Google credit and £60 off (cashback for having 2tb ONE). So, net £200 (or less). I do not even have a SIM card in, just use for photos and as a satnav!
Appreciate the honesty! I decided to go with the 5 over the 4a (usually not the type to spend so much on a phone) because looking long term, if the phone lasts me 3 years, that extra battery life will be very appreciated and the slightly better specs will help it age better
Waiting for my Pixel 5 atm. Getting it next week! Was thinking of getting the 4a 5G but I need the water resistance to keep my mind at ease(Allot of rain and snow). And the wireless charging is a plus. Love the pixel series, still have my pixel 1 after 4 years. Only problem with it is the battery life (6hours max) atm. With careful use of the pixel 5 you can easily have it over a 5 year period. Don't think the price is to high, when this phone can easily outrank the other phones in 3 years when it still get updates for the android. My older phones I had to switch after 2-3 years period because of android problems(Usually only 1 year of updates). So if a pixel last 5-6 years, you do save that amount over the long term.
Really good review. So many are missing the point on this phone. I think everyone can agree that $600 would have been perfect, but you're still getting a lot for your money. I like a smaller phone and a great camera. I like the finger print reader on the back where I naturally grip the phone. I like symmetrical bezels and no notch. I don't need all the extras that Samsung packs in, and I don't like the size and design of OnePlus. Also, getting a free pair of Bose QC35ii headphones made this a no-brainer for me.
@@Lekigamingtelugu no... I live in Canada where the prices of the phones are insane while the phone plans are normal. I use koodo mobile not bell not rogers. Best take on this phone I've watched. "Main" pixels are not worth it anymore imho. Since the 3A, you're better off going for the "a-pixel" line. Great value, great performance, great support.
At 4:40 you mention that the photo gets processed. How did you find taking front facing photos of yourself? Currently on my pixel this processing distorts my photos and make it look like its been taken with a fish eye lens. Makes my cheeks look way bigger than they already are lol. I'm hoping newer phones avoid this distortion.
I have the Pixel 3XL and I looove it!!! Don't think I'll be upgrading until they come out with an actual crazy amazing new phone! Idk what that would be =P but I'll wait!😁
My Pixel 5 came in on Halloween. The transition is super smooth coming from the 3. I have to get used to the bigger screen when watching videos as I always seem to tap the video. The bottom "single" speaker is kind of a disappointment but maybe it shouldn't matter too much; I catch myself covering it up on accident. I'm just going to have to keep my Buds at my person more often. The battery life is actually insane at how normal or at ease I feel when I look at the battery life throughout the day. The price is a no from me, but like you said I did want the best Pixel. The Pixel 3 has been my best/favorite phone ever. Since these are so similar I think I made a good choice.
Go Coogs! I've had a Pixel 3XL for the last 2 years and I'm looking to upgrade. It's between the Pixel 5 and the OnePlus 8 lineup, perhaps Pro or 8T. 🤷🏼♂️
The pixel 5 is really surprising me. So far I'm loving this device more and more each day I have it. It's only been a few days but so far the battery life has been amazing and performance has been great. All of the features I want to complain about not having are still an issue but the performance so far makes me miss those complaints less and less. I'm coming from a pixel 3xl and loves it but I don't miss glass back phones. I love the back of this phone and the lack of finger prints.
I Agree I've had this phone for 24hrs. Before I had a One plus 6t, but the battery was starting to play up.. So I bought the Pixel 5. My wife has a 3A and she still loves it after 2 years. The Pixel 5 is a cinch to use, and the chip is not slow in fact if someone told you it was a higher end chip you would not argue with fhem. 👍

Really good fair review! I bought one because I love the minimal style, specs and pixel experience. Saying that I still have the xperia 1ii which fulfills the spec junky side of me.
I got the pixel 5 some days ago. the only thing that bothers me is the speaker. the sound of this phone really is not that nice but everything else is awesome. I never have used a Google phone in my life but from what I can tell, other Android phones are fast especially these days so I don't know how good the stock OS vs that practically speeaking.
Dude this is by far the most pleasant and honest review of this phone, thank you so much! You are awesome!
I'm upgrading from a Pixel 2 XL. I'm with you on the price tag gripe, so I'll just wait for the Black Friday sale!
i bought a pixel 5 a few days ago. Totally agree with you on everything..$600 would have been more reasonable but i love it.
Pixel 4a seems to be a better deal for the price, even if it lacks a lot of things...
I agree it is a better deal for someone who wants a reliable and takes good pictures Android phone. Just wish the 4a had another camera. The 4a 5G has it but it's more.
@@AppleReviews yes but what about the battery? It's starts from 64 gb which isn't enough

no screen gap issue?
None, had mine since 15 of October
How do you feel losing face unlock? Is it I huge deal?
I just picked up the Pixel 5 Thursday, and loving it already.
This is my 3rd Pixel (Pixel 2 and 4XL) and at this point am pretty loyal to their team.
I have been very disappointed in the face unlock on the 4XL, so that's the main thing that drove me to the P5 this year.
Also, I don't mind the "lower end" processor, as I don't usually do super heavy CPU tasks. Although the lack of the dedicated photo processing chip will suck.
I love face unlock on the 4 xl.... and this is why I didn't get the 5...
I was starting to think my p2xl had a problem
People are addressing this because the Pixel 4 and 4XL had a special image processing chip that made it much faster, which has been removed on the Pixel 5.
@@TechArtAlex No people who switched from even the Pixel 2 or Pixel 3 are addressing this as well, I have both of them myself and the difference isn’t even noticeable with Pixel 5 actually processing them faster than both. No one really talked about this processing time with previous Pixel phones now they just knit picking just cos it has a SD 765G chip.
@@androguyy yeah anyone who owned anything older than a Pixel 4 has nothing to complain about. Its fine and standard.

Loving the Snorlax. Really nice take on the review!
8:35 Look at how beautified the selfie is in the iPhone. And some tech reviewers still say the iPhone takes "natural-looking" photos.
while i agree with you, to be fair its comparing a 2018 phone to a 2020 phone so really any 2020 phone will be better than the xs max. Im not trying to take away from the p5 quality though, it really is amazing, just probably not the best comparison he used here
IMX 363 from the Pixel 3.

I have pixel 3 and am upgrading tomorrow to the 5. Currently Verizon is $350 off! Can't beat that.

Great job on the disclosures/disclaimers at the intro.
Upgraded from pixel 3 to 5. Such a good simple smartphone
I did the same thing
@@jacobfiggins Is your upgrade worth it?
@Swagitupson Yeah mate I was sceptical about the speakers, because of the reviews & because I binge watch alot of content. Not as good as px3 speakers but it's decent enough. The slow processor when taking pics don't really bother me & the battery life is really good. My px3 had horrible battery life.
I want this phone. I don't NEED it, already have a OnePlus 7T; but man, I want this phone.
I've also got the OnePlus 7T, but was thinking of upgrading as well, but do I really need to. Apart for the wireless charging and 5G, the 7T, has better spec.
Then ask yourself what else in your life could use that $700 for?!
I have the OnePlus 7 pro and still got the pixel 5. I traded in one of my older Pixels and got $350 off through Verizon. This phone is awesome...if you can get it for the right price I would say go for it.
Same here. I got OnePlus 7pro but I just like Google pixel phone better. Especially the Screen calling and camera

I recommend waiting for Black Friday, these phones are notorious for Black Friday sales. That's what I'm doing.

Reaaalllyyy tempting to buy this one... Smaller footprint makes it really stands out in my opinion..

As an owner of the Pixel 5 I can say that this review is spot on. Its a really great user experience. Great battery. I love the look and feel. Just bought one of these recently and it stands up well today. So small and good looking. Camera is still decent and the performance is just fine and dandy.
I think at the price it is now.. it has finally become worth buying.
Mine just came in and just finished the setup. Got the sorta sage model. So far so good!
First time I watch your video, you are a very honest guy, you have a new subscriber. Keep up the good work 👍👍
I bought a new phone last week to replace my Sony XA2 Ultra 6" that was two years old.

I honestly prefer this review compared to those from the bigger you tubers, this is just more honest and realistic. Love it.
I'm coming from a Pixel 2XL and honestly the only reason I'm upgrading to the 5 is because of the lack of support with updates in the future.
Love the Pixel line and I'm excited to try out the latest and greatest.

Best Buy offered this to me at $599 when I went in. This was without a trade-in. I am happy with this at that price. That said, the phone over heats a little from super prolonged use, so we will see how longevity goes.

Jimmy, I'm picking up what you are putting down. I really like your presentation. Think I'll subscribe. I'm also upgrading to the Pixel 5.

Great review and I like your sense of humor.

I have the Pixel 3 and I was considering upgrading to the Pixel 5. However, after much consideration I believe my Pixel 3 will do just fine for another year or so.

Sure some brands launchs a little late from Pixels but they usually run in beta with a lot of heavy cosmetics.
In addition of a lot of 3rd party custom mod for Pixel lineup
