I also like pixel 5 overall but for the price, the spec is just ok. Without the camera, I wonder whether it's worth for the money compare to other android phones
Also lastly, I know this is NOT the most popular opinion, but I wish the pixel line would adopt the front facing stereo speakers again. I'm still using my 2xl and I still love it. Sadly I'm gonna have to invest in a newer model soon as the security updates are going away after December, or I would just continue to use it as my daily. I don't mind forehead and chin bezels as long as it is needed for speakers for example, but again that's just my opinion on the matter
I love my Pixel 5 - 5G! I’ve had it about a month now and find it very easy to adapt to and use; My “old” phone was a refurbished Samsung Note S7 that Verizon gave me to replace a dead S7. It was a POS, I had to delete and rebuild the network stack every couple of days to even get online with the darned thing! I started to think Verizon gave me a junker so I’d just upgrade and enter the modern world! If that’s what they did, it worked. Moving data and reinstalling apps was a cinch but I’m still working on getting everything where I want it to be. I expected that but someone could make a mint if they made an app for that. Cloud integration is better than I’ve seen before in any of the worlds I wander in between (Windows, IOS, Android). The 5g where I am at isn’t real 5g, it is some sort of enhancement to 4g LTE pretending to be a 5g kind of connection. It is very fast in comparison to WiFi or regular old 4g LTE. Put me in the I’m satisfied camp. It is still early spring here in Minnesota, I’m in a nursing home and can’t go outside quite yet; HIPPA says I can’t take pictures inside; Covid rules say I can’t interact with people outside. The garden (a beautiful place) is still dormant. I can’t wait to get outside and play with the camera; it seems to work fine on FaceBook Video though. I have to be fair so I’ll wait before rendering real judgment on the camera. I have an iPhone 7 as my emergency backup phone, it has plenty of phone time, unlimited messages, but only 2GB of data. I really like that phone but the Pixel 5 seems to out perform it in every single aspect! For now the iPhone will continue to perform as a backup (SHTF) phone. I don’t pay much attention to size/weight/durability of my phones. They all live in cases and they all fit in my pocket. I don’t care if one is an ounce or two lighter than the other. I don’t use screen protectors cuz the case protects the screen and I don’t like air bubbles. Having said that there is a noticeable difference between to old Gorilla glass and the new stuff on the Pixel 5. It is thinner (I think) which improves touch responsiveness and I like that. It is very smooth if you keep it clean and that improves the experience. If I had to pick a weak spot, I’d say it is the speakers (which I use a lot). The bottom speaker (there are two ports but I think only one speaker there) is okay sounding and the volume is comparable to a lot of other phones (almost loud enough). It is the behind the glass speaker where things begin to show the weakness. It can sometimes muddle the sound and volume and tone-wise doesn’t bring much to the party. Frankly, I was expecting a lot more and was excited to try it.
I just want a fully decked out pixel with all the bells and whistles; a full screen (no notch/giant bezel) and a solid battery size. Is that to much to ask for google...
How are you going to compare the Pixel 5 screen with the Pixel 2XL, and neglect to mention the Pixel 5 has a significantly lower resolution, and lower PPI than the Pixel 2XL? The Pixel 5 is a budget phone made with old parts, and it's embarrassing.
The software, Google assistant integration, and Google specific features are by far the reasons to get this over any other android phone. But it is hard to look across the aisle at the iPhone 12 with it's high level of video recording capability and not consider it...
I think Google is into something here , I had a 3a and it was a great phone , heard the same about 4a and 5 now. They seem to have found a niche where they can excel. Pity 5 is not launching in India , I wanted to shift back to Android for my daily driver from iPhone XR , but 4a does not have an IP rating which is quite important for me. Maybe Pixel 6 may launch here
I don't understand why Google makes phones so expensive. The pixel5 is very expensive, more than € 600. Google should sell the cheapest mobiles since they obtain from us all the information that we give them without charging anything. the Pixel 4a is missing a wide angle lens
Liked the review here Durvid. For me, this version is Pixel perfect. And I'm fine with the price, considering I've paid much much more for more compromised Pixels in the past.
This is the best pixel review that I've seen. Every other says it uses a downgraded chip. There are people who use most inferior chips like I've using Kirin 659 from years and people like me upgrading to SD feel whole lot better.
Lmao. My phone has Kirin 659. 500% slower than 730g. Still i had no issues with any speed. I don't understand what's the deal breaker between 700 series and 800 series. It's exaggeration.
Whoa, a Kirin 659. Haven't heard that processor in a long time. Do you have a Honor 7x by chance? While not fast at all I found that phone adequate for my needs.
The only thing I like about Google phones is the camera, although you can get it to work on other android phones. My first Google phone that I got stopped working just randomly. Also the last thing I want is more tracking and surveillance from Google. This is not a criticism of the video. Just my opinion of Google phones in general.
Google's older phones were shit so that doesn't surprise me, but the Google pixel doesn't track you any more or less than any other Android phone does. The operating system is still Google although the operating system is open source and if you want you can install LineageOS, basically an Android installation that is open source and you could look at the source code to see it's not tracking if it makes you feel better.
Love the camera part, you nailed it. Hope Google hear it. We need bigger sensor, not as big as the competition right now but big enough to compensate computational fail.
I think you are adorable, David. I love your reviews, photography, and cinematic art. Keep up the awesome work! Hopefully, Google has worked out the basics for the Pixel 5. Google needed to stop, get the basis right, then build on those before they can move on. They also need to retain what they get right in newer models. It seems like every Pixel phone they made they started completely from scratch each time and forgot what they got right on previous models. The camera and related photography software has been the only features they have improved on. Google's problem with previous phones that hopefully they solved with this model is that they needed to get the basics right. People are not satisfied with a device that does not at least meet the basics: 1. a long lasting battery (if the device does not last but a few hours when you need it to last your whole day, then that is a fail no matter how good the screen, the camera, or other features) 2. a good screen (the screen is the most used of the entire device; it is how you interact with the device; you read it and touch it for hours; if it is discolored or crapy you will not want to look at it) 3. security and access (the physical button on the back is more reliable than most in-screen buttons these days; face unlock no longer is a reliable option because most people are required to wear masks now) 4. good wireless connections (Bluetooth and WiFi have to be reliable; connect and stay connected when you need them to) 5. wireless charging is a super bonus to me (I prefer wireless charging because I can just place my phone on a stand or pad and go to sleep instead of getting frustrated trying to find the hole with the plug in the dark) 6. water resistance should be on all phones nowadays To me, these are the basics Google needed get right, and have failed to get right in the past that upset so many fans. My favorite design of all time is the Pixel 2 XL, and if I can remember correctly had many complaints about the screen discoloration and worse at certain angles, wireless connection problems with Bluetooth and WiFi, and no wireless charging. Hopefully Google got it right this time; not gimmicky tricks, just the basics done right.
As a pixel 3 XL owner who's had nothing but issues with their phone. I'm not touching another google phone. From my Bluetooth saying it's stopped running when I've had it off all day to my wifi discounting randomly to the point of having to restart my phone to the 5 times a day where my phone randomly restarts itself. I'm not a rough person on my phone's all of them get super protective cases and are for the most part babied. I think I paid $800 for it and it feels like a cheap boost mobile phone. So the pixel 5 no matter how cool it may or may not be just a heads up for people thinking about buying a google phone.
I had the Pixel 3XL and it sucked, a very bad year for the Pixel. I upgraded to the Pixel 4XL as I could not stand the 3 anymore and that has been good. I was not going to upgrade to the Pixel 5 but I had £130 credit and there were free headphones (BOSE) plus 10% cashback, so I went with it. So far so good but the speakers are not great, but as I got it for a song (net £250) I cannot really complain!
@@andyH_England I think even if I were to get a discount or headphones like you I still wouldn't want it. I'm going on like a year and 3 months with mine and man... I'm about ready to throw this thing at a wall. The random restarts are annoying which this last update was suppose to fix and it didn't. I hate to say it I might just go back to iphone. Maybe next month I'll pick up a 11 pro and rock that for a while. Paying all this money for phones and you get a pile of garbage doesn't sit well with me.
@@GomerPyleM14 Yes, the RAM management was one of my main bugbears, it rarely kept more than 6 apps in memory and slowed down with age, 4gb RAM was a joke. The Pixel 5 with 8gb keeps 18+ apps in memory and makes for a v.good experience. Good luck whatever you choose!
That's the problem with the Pixel.. "It doesn't have to" is why its failing. I mean for now you can argue with what you'd pick in that price range but what if the pixel had a larger battery and a better sensor. All Pixel reviews feel like they are justifying the cuts just because of its great camera. Well.. that's whats been happening to the pixel for years. and that's why you see this phone on a 200 dollar off sale in a few months.
Yeah and I think camera and photography enthusiasts however will use gcam on any phone and also edit them it really doesn't make much sense to spend money for just the camera software IMO
@@techmad8204 I've been looking at the pixel for years, i had the nexus 6p so transitioning to a pixel was a normal choice but year after year its been lacking hardware wise for me. Jumped on the OP 7 pro when it launched and just installed a gcam, like what you said.
I think that this year, the Pixel 5 is there to make the 4A 5g look like the better option. Google themselves stated they were expecting the 5 to have low sales. Kinda why in the event they specifically stated that the camera system of the 5 and the 4A 5g were the same.
Explain to me why this reviewer is comparing a $700 Pixel 5's camera to a $1300 Samsung Galaxy Note Ultra 20's camera? You are talking about a phone that is almost twice as expensive. It is ridiculous to compare 2 phones with drastically different prices. It would make more sense to compare the cameras to the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, OnePlus 8T and iPhone 11. Rule #1 is you compare products within the same price range.
What is love to see from android authority is like a top 5 Android phones that while have great processing ram, ect, have meh cameras for people like me that could care less about camera specs. It's just not my thing personally
Do I buy the pixel 5 or is it better to wait for the pixel 6? I'm worried about how the phone is going to age, I would be using it for a good few years so I'm afraid the computational photography just won't be enough and SD 765G might not be the best. I'm predicting the pixel 6 will have better cameras cause it's about time and the processor is def going to be better. So is it worth the wait? To anyone who's going to recommend other phones, I want a pixel cause I want the pixel software.
Price is fine but if the reason for removing neural core was to lower the cost which was google's own chip, what would happen when google starts using their custom SOC? How well would they be able to price the device? I believe the reason why iPhone SE is priced lower is because it has Apple's A13 processor and they can play with it by using in any device. Google should also take the same approach.
Do you think the camera features like the cinematic pan locked/active/standard stabilization portrait nightsight and exposure bracketing come to the small pixel 4a ?
I'm not in the market for a new phone this year, but this is the first Pixel since the OG unit that has caught my attention. For years I was all about the Nexus and then the OG Pixel (I had the 5" model), but the RAM and battery issues were just too much of a turn off. I have the P30 Pro and love. It's nearly two years old right now, but I can realistically see myself holding onto it for another two years barring any catastrophic damage. That said, if Google keeps this up I could see myself going back to the Pixel lineup.
Any thoughts on losing the 45mm lens that was on the 4? I learned from my camera enthusiast friends that a nifty-50 is the standard to shoot with, so I've used the telephoto lens on my 4 whenever possible. Or does the computational photography make it a non-issue?
Pixels have "Super res zoom" which makes zoom at 2x pretty indistinguishable from an optical lens. You can't do wide without the hardware, so I think this was a good swap.
@@AndroidAuthority I was more curious from a photographer's standpoint, how a 50mm prime lens is the baseline, because it's closest to the human eye. I always used my Pixel 4's telephoto lens because it's 46mm, but maybe computational photography nowadays makes that irrelevant.
Does your phone got hot with normal usage (example browsing, paging thorough photos etc). I've had my phone for three days now and I find that it heats up very quickly.
Will I make a mistake if I switch from my Huawei P30 pro?I'm not a gamer, but I like taking close range photos of objects. This Google-Huawei thing is concerning me, and yea, accidental touches are starting to really piss me off
One mistake from Google, is not to put Sd768 from 5/2020,he is overclocked 765g and the highest midrange chipset untill 775 relise. For phone from 10/2020 to put one year old chip when Note 20 comes in 8/2020 with 865+ it's shame for Google.
In conclusion The pixel 5 is a mediocre upgrade from the 4 xl, from it's sub-par 107° wide angle lens, which every other camera has 120°, to it's underperforming chipset that lags behind the Pixel 4. The 4 was 699 with a special promo in bill credits. I have upgraded my Pixel phones since the first one but honestly this is the last straw. Iphone and samsung caught up to computational photography, and iphone 12 mini destroys the pixel 5 in performance and features. AND STILL NO PIXEL WATCH! This year, after 10 years of android, I will be switching to iphone. Such a shame since I was in the Google ecosystem.
@@amdreym for the most part, yes, but, I get a pixel every year. So it doesn't matter to me. With the mask mandate having a fingerprint scanner vs facial recognition is going to be "godsend" in stores for purchases.
First off, EXCELLENT review! You covered everything I wanted to know about this phone and did so in a way that was very user friendly. I am going to pick a nit, but this is only constructive criticism...the review was truly very good! The nit: I absolutely understand the need for cue cards/notes when making a video with such a high degree of detail. I'm wondering if you're able to move these notes/cue cards closer to the camera's line of sight so you're not looking so far offline when reviewing your notes? Please don't take this as a complaint -- it did not detract from the content and delivery, but I did notice it, FYI. Looking forward to more excellent videos!!!
Again loving this point of view coming from someone who is really into photography. I can't understand why with all their software smarts Google haven't been tempted to just use a bigger sensor, more raw data and light surely should only help their computational goodness. Also love that you pointed out the ISP of the processor, haven't heard anyone else point this out. If the sensor has been about the same and the lens has only improved a little bit then all the real improvements have been the ISP or the special pixel core. If anything this year makes the most sense to have kept that special pixel visual core processor. Cheers for a great vid as always, good analysis not just spec reading like you can get on some channels.
Thanks for your awesome review, could you please tell me how can O get that wallpaper you using for pixel 5. I got the phone but its not there. thanks again!
I wish google would also pay attention to the audio. Why not have the stereo speakers on the top and bottom? If they are brave enough to get ride of project soli and bright back the finger print sensor why not also be brave enough to bring back the headphone jack? Now that’s intelligent.

I discovered this channel a while ago and now I don't miss your videos, greetings from Panama 🇵🇦
Dope! Thanks dope watching 🙌
Man I love your reviews👍🏿 can't wait to get my pixel 5
I also like pixel 5 overall but for the price, the spec is just ok. Without the camera, I wonder whether it's worth for the money compare to other android phones
Pixel 4a 5g is better value
Even with the camera it's just barely holding on. There's simply better phones to be had.
The 4A 5g pixel literally has better speakers that says enough
But it has the camera so no need to wonder 😆
@@nakkadu but don't u think pixel 4a 5g literally has the same camera and processor at 200 less
This one comes with a power plug to charge it, Sweet!
Uniform bezels on all sides. That's the best feature for me actually.
Best part about this video is Brandon cameo.
Micheal's cameo was better
Who's Brandon?
@@VolodymyrSytnyk the camera guy @mkbhd, also a great RUclipsr as Brandon Havard.
I just want a fully decked out pixel with all the bells and whistles; a full screen (no notch/giant bezel) and a solid battery size. Is that to much to ask for google...
yes it is. Hopefully their pixel 6 is a true flagship
If they come out with an iphone running Android instead of iOS I'd buy it
Its truly amazing that portrait light works even on pictures you find on the web. Smart AI is smart.
Google is doing well but they need to up their game. A lot of smartphone companies are catching up with their camera 📸 What do you guys think?
Google is doing bad not well, they made a sidegrade to the last generation Pixel 4XL not much of an upgrade.
I have a 970 on my mate 10 pro and I bet the 765g would be a huge upgrade to me, even in graphics.
@@anthonyt425 LoL😂 you're absolutely right
I was using Snapdragon 845 for two years..now switching to SD 730G😂..it's a downgrade. I agree...yet brought for 4a's size
Where can i get that sakura wallpaper?
Can anyone provide a link to the wallpaper @1:40??
In the description!
Was he shooting video with the selfie cam when he went up to the car???
The Pixel 5 camera is still excellent even today's standards. I have a Pixel 5 and a Sony Xperia 1 II.
People are not satisfied with a device that does not at least meet the basics:
1. a long lasting battery (if the device does not last but a few hours when you need it to last your whole day, then that is a fail no matter how good the screen, the camera, or other features)
2. a good screen (the screen is the most used of the entire device; it is how you interact with the device; you read it and touch it for hours; if it is discolored or crapy you will not want to look at it)
3. security and access (the physical button on the back is more reliable than most in-screen buttons these days; face unlock no longer is a reliable option because most people are required to wear masks now)
4. good wireless connections (Bluetooth and WiFi have to be reliable; connect and stay connected when you need them to)
5. wireless charging is a super bonus to me (I prefer wireless charging because I can just place my phone on a stand or pad and go to sleep instead of getting frustrated trying to find the hole with the plug in the dark)
6. water resistance should be on all phones nowadays
To me, these are the basics Google needed get right, and have failed to get right in the past that upset so many fans.
Would have been good to hear about the lack of top speakers and how the sound compares to previous Pixel phones
7:58 should have replied with General kenobi
SHAME
Pixel 1 had an OLED display too, it was Samsung, the Pixel 2 used P-OLED panels from LG.
What’s the wallpaper please? At 1:38.

I think that this year, the Pixel 5 is there to make the 4A 5g look like the better option. Google themselves stated they were expecting the 5 to have low sales.
Kinda why in the event they specifically stated that the camera system of the 5 and the 4A 5g were the same.
Thanks android authoritiy team for this video!😍
What I want is that background image.
The OG Pixel had a really nice OLED display. The Pixel 2 XL just used an inferior LG POLED display that wasn't great.
Rule #1 is you compare products within the same price range.
i have one question, why pixel launcher's "At a glance" do not turn into dark text, even in so white shade wallpapers...🤔
Brilliantly done! Thank you so much for an amazing review! Subbed! :)
This was a very useful review, thank you!
What is love to see from android authority is like a top 5 Android phones that while have great processing ram, ect, have meh cameras for people like me that could care less about camera specs. It's just not my thing personally
7:07 astrophoto example catch starlink satelite. That is so cool!
7:45 makes me happy, what a beautiful looking person.
A BIGGG... Fan on pixel phones❤️
Unfortunately not available in India 😭.
I don't understand why some reviewers find the necessity to say something negative without a genuine purpose of saying it. No hate just saying.
in this video you said that the pixel 2xl was the first pixel to have an oled display, but the pixel 1 and 1xl had an oled display as well
Price is fine but if the reason for removing neural core was to lower the cost which was google's own chip, what would happen when google starts using their custom SOC? How well would they be able to price the device? I believe the reason why iPhone SE is priced lower is because it has Apple's A13 processor and they can play with it by using in any device. Google should also take the same approach.
Can you do a review concerning the eSIM physical sim function On the Pixel 5
Do you think the camera features like the cinematic pan locked/active/standard stabilization portrait nightsight and exposure bracketing come to the small pixel 4a ?
thats a great review dude, enjoyed it
Thanks much!
The title of this video should've been: Pixel 5: pretty nice xD
I'm not in the market for a new phone this year, but this is the first Pixel since the OG unit that has caught my attention. For years I was all about the Nexus and then the OG Pixel (I had the 5" model), but the RAM and battery issues were just too much of a turn off. I have the P30 Pro and love. It's nearly two years old right now, but I can realistically see myself holding onto it for another two years barring any catastrophic damage. That said, if Google keeps this up I could see myself going back to the Pixel lineup.
The one RUclipsr that will even tell you about the clickyness of the power button! 😂😅 Great job, keep it up!
Gotta get that T A C T I L E F E E D B A C K
Did Google address the self changing wallpaper with Pixel 5?
Will I make a mistake if I switch from my Huawei P30 pro?I'm not a gamer, but I like taking close range photos of objects. This Google-Huawei thing is concerning me, and yea, accidental touches are starting to really piss me off
So the camera is the same as the one in my Pixel 3a? Google must have never heard the saying "Good is the enemy of great."
One mistake from Google, is not to put Sd768 from 5/2020,he is overclocked 765g and the highest midrange chipset untill 775 relise. For phone from 10/2020 to put one year old chip when Note 20 comes in 8/2020 with 865+ it's shame for Google.
Excellent review, nicely done David!
How's the network speed on the Pixel 5g phones. How's the wifi speed considering it lacks wifi 6, do you miss it?
Can't wait to get my sage 5, going to replace my oh so orange 4 XL
But it's like downgrade..... only better battery.
@@amdreym for the most part, yes, but, I get a pixel every year. So it doesn't matter to me. With the mask mandate having a fingerprint scanner vs facial recognition is going to be "godsend" in stores for purchases.
Wooah! Pretty much impressive, the review was pretty much good enough, thanks a lot 👍
David you really need to upload all your wallpaper and photos
They're absolutely fantastic
On instagram @davidimel! Also the wallpaper is in the description now :)
I tried iphone 12 pro and samsung note 20ultra for one week now going back to pixel 5.
How would you rate the haptics in the pixel 5 vs the smaller 4A?
6:22 my pixel 3 visual core takes just as long to process pictures 😒
I hope they price the phones intelligently in the future.
This looks great for people that don’t own pixel 4’s. Hopefully the 6 will be a more meaningful update, I really want the return of face unlock
They just compared the Pixel 5s camera to the Samsung Notes camera... What's the price difference again?
Did you review the speakers ?
I like that your sweater matches the phone in some shots.
Gotta do it 🙌
I use the 4xl, so no downgrade at this time. The under display 🔊is a deal breaker for me. Maybe the pixel6 only if Google uses the triple8 processer!
@Android Authority , what Smartwatch do you have ?
Fossil Hybrid!
If it has Snapdragon 765G, does it automatically mean it supports the enhanced dual band GPS or not necessarily?
Thanks for your awesome review, could you please tell me how can O get that wallpaper you using for pixel 5. I got the phone but its not there. thanks again!

Hey..
With ❤️ from India 🇮🇳
I haven't used any Pixel Phone yet.. But I really like Pixel Phones..
I wish google would also pay attention to the audio. Why not have the stereo speakers on the top and bottom? If they are brave enough to get ride of project soli and bright back the finger print sensor why not also be brave enough to bring back the headphone jack? Now that’s intelligent.
The speakers on a phone isnt an important factor to consider?
Hey Android Authority the pixel 5 isn't coming to India 🥺
@Vishwabharathi H Shastry Sadly, only the Pixel 4a is coming to India - www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-5-pixel-4a-5g-india-pixel-4a-nest-audio-launch-this-month/
Google dosent have a good marketing strategy to sell their phones in India, and price for the indian market is a drawback, the pixel might be a good phone but it dosent have craze like apple has.
Well Samsung keeps launching Exynos versions and Pixel skipped India again (this time deliberately) , so sticking with Apple this year. If Pixel 5 would have launched I would have bought it
Finally you guys dropped the pixel 5 video
Since Saturday my man!
The original Pixel/XL both had AMOLED screens--that didn't start with the Pixel 2.
