As someone who was dismissed for over a decade and told it was all in my head, this actually made me cry and Dorothy is my hero. Finally diagnosed with stage four endometriosis. I am not crazy.

    • @DeepBlue7
      @DeepBlue7 5 лет назад +20

Jenny, I also have stage 4 along with a massive fibroid and endometriomas. I had a gyne tell me, after 8 miscarriages, "Nothing is wrong with you. It's bad luck. Come back when you have some good news". I will never forget that and may have had a chance at having a family if she hadn't dismissed me back then. Angry is only the beginning of how I feel. I'm finally going to be having surgery in the winter after fighting with a new gyne to refer me. I'm not crazy and neither are you. I hope you are also getting the proper medical care that you need and so deserve.

I believe that's his wife. What makes it a little more impactful (imo) is that he mentions to Dorothy that she should travel and dye her hair like his wife did ("My wife became a blonde. She's a new woman now." Along those lines.). Given this, she's probably aware of how he acts toward patients and it's probably how he acted toward her when she (probably or most likely) was/is sick.

I went the first 29 years of my life being told that I was just odd, different or even defective. Then I was diagnosed as having Asperger's syndrome/Autism Spectrum Disorder. Finally, I had some peace of mind from a simple diagnosis.

I'm autistic as well and while I was lucky enough to be diagnosed in childhood, I was also diagnosed as an adult with ADHD, which 50% of people on the spectrum are also diagnosed with. And it explained so much people were telling me " Why don't you just pay attention/concentrate, try harder etc" "You're using ADHD as an excuse /lazy etc".
It wasn't that I didn't want to concentrate or get things done it was that I truly didn't know how and my brain was straining to concentrate while being in a thousand directions at once.

"I don't know when you doctors lose your humanity but you do". How very true. In Britain, we also let doctors get away with the ' we cannot get emotionally involved with our patients' line. But that is why there is so much bad health care, because doctors only see in front of them a diseased kidney or heart or some other part of the body. Instead, they should be trained to see that they are dealing with a complex rounded human being with worries and an emotional life of their own. They seem to have this holistic approach in good hospice care. In my experience, this approach is very rare in the general world of the NHS. Ask yourself, if the NHS is so wonderful how come the vast majority of doctors have private health care. "By their actions shall ye know them".

I was told in '87 that I was depressed, even though my GP didn't ask anything about my life and I hadn't seen him in ages. I was also told I could not donate blood, so I asked him if that is a symptom of depression.
It took me 25 yrs to get a referral from a 2nd non-believing GP. I was diagnosed by a top Canadian CFS/ME specialist. She told me to hand-deliver the primer to him. He put that book on his bookshelf and never mentioned my illness again. No apology, no vindication and obviously no help with my symptoms.
Dorothy's 3 minute chewing out of her doctor was spot on. I can still feel the same emotions I had back then when I was dismissed and left to fend for myself.

She was right for saying what she said. I had a doctor like that he dismissed what I was telling him. I had been having stomach pains that just seem to radiate all over my stomach and he told me did I was having heartburn well one night the pain got really bad I had been to the hospital multiple times no one could figure out what was going on so finally I had my mom take me to the hospital again and hospital that she took me to was the worst Hospital around at the time but they were finally able to tell me what was wrong with me I was having a gallbladder attack so what my primary care physician had diagnosed as heartburn was actually a gallbladder attack and it almost cost me my life because my gallbladder had also got entwined with my pancreas and caused a horrible infection I had to have my gallbladder removed but only after I had to wait in the hospital for 15 days while I took antibiotics to get rid of that infection. So believe me when I say if your doctor dismisses what you know is wrong with you get a second opinion because our doctors may know our bodies but we know our bodies even more.

  • @PsychoHanyo

I was always dismissed and told I just needed better sleeping habits. Took a doctor that actually listened to testimony from myself, my sister, and my husband to get me to a sleep specialist. I was properly diagnosed with narcolepsy towards the end of last year, after suffering from excessive daytime sleepiness for years. Still trying to figure out the right treatment and off and on fighting with my insurance about me needing medication for it at all.
Doctors didn't listen to me when I told then I was worried about my son's abnormal behavior. They said his extreme hyperactivity and tantrums were normal child behavior. Finally got a doc to listen to me and got a referral to a specialist after my son scored 15/18 on an ADHD questioner. He I'd five and I've been fighting since he was three to get him help and properly diagnosed. It's such a relief that I can finally help my son like I've been trying to do from the start.

Sadly, medical doctors only use prescription drugs to manage the symptoms but a natural health doctor uses natural remedies to heal the core issue and gets to the root of the problem. People need to start going to Natural doctors, functional doctors, and natural path doctors because they seem to know a ton more about health then medical doctors these days. For instance, lime feeds on sugar and carbs but what medical doctor knows that? The answer is zero because doctors know virtually nothing about Nutritional Health. Start with some of these RUclips videos from Natural Health doctors to help you get on the right track of taking control of your own health and getting help and hope from doctors that actually know what they're doing! Also there's a doctor named Dr. Maegan Stanga in San Antonio and she can heal Lyme disease and many other diseases through extensive virus therapies. You also don't have to go to San Antonio to be treated by her either as she takes appointment by phone, does blood work at local Labs near you that can be mailed to her office, and she also ship's treatments to your home. Most people are cured within a year to a year-and-a-half. There are many doctors like her all over the country. People need to stop accepting the medical standard crap we have been dealing with for decades and get the real health treatment we deserve instead of unhelpful prescriptions shoved down our throat.

I saw a news story that called this "medical gaslighting". My daughter and I were victims of the same doctor. Her problem was back pain and mine was "just constipation". After my daughter got married and was able to have back surgery, they said if she had waited any longer, she would have been incontinent! My constipation turned out to be stage 4 colon cancer. Once I got home from my lengthy hospital stay, I changed doctors. A lot of my medication was changed and my health seems to have improved.
The year before, I had another long hospital stay. They removed my water pill and Potassium meds that were prescribed for me. This caused severe edema and low Potassium, which extended my stay through Thanksgiving in the nursing home where my holiday meal was a ham sandwich because the cook forgot to order turkey.
And we put our health in their hands?

The doctor not only dismissed my wife but told her he did not want to see her any more because she refused to accept his diagnosis ("eat more iron" - that's all this sonuvabiscuit ever said!) and didn't want her inability to follow his instructions to ruin his reputation. After years of torturous physical AND emotional pain, my beautiful wife was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome by a kind and patient doctor who was MORTIFIED other doctors did not identify this illness. My wife was ecstatic. She had concrete answers. A week later, my wife died from a heart attack that defied all medical explanation. When advised of her death, the first doctor said "You are inappropriate to play a sick joke like that" and I insisted I wasn't kidding and hurled the obituary printed from the internet at him, slamming the door of his office as I exited.

No disrespect to the people who ride for their significant others… But, right is right. And, wrong is wrong. Sometimes “riding” for your loved ones is letting them know COMPASSIONATELY that they’re slipping, or, have slipped. Then, assuring them that they’re loved regardless, and, have support. A lot of people(maybe not all of them. But, you continually pray for those) would respond positively, and, proactively to that type of encouragement(I know I would)… Respect to those who agree, and, strive to live by that example. The episode I REALLY liked, was Season 1 Episode 2, when Dorothy told Stan what a COWARD he was, for walking out on her. I remember an ex telling me that his di*k couldn't stand up; as the reason he stopped calling. My response to that was; "don't blame me for your sexual DYSFUNCTION!!" He apologized. I... walked away. Another ex fiance told me, he left me because I was too combative(all I was doing was asking questions, he couldn't answer). My response to him? "You did me a favor!!" He felt so FOOLISH after that, he couldn't stop apologizing.

Sad this has happened to so many women for too long! Time for people to speak up for themselves~ Read "Canaries In The Coal Mine" by Elaine Marie Graham to learn the roots of CFS/FM and autoimmune conditions - available on amazon paperback or download!

By and large, I've had better experience with the nurses both in clinic and in hospital regarding bedside manner. Nurses spend more time with patients anyway. Doctors spend a whopping 2 minutes of patient face to face time and that's it. The rest is mostly nurses

I’m scared that the doc will think I’m a faker, struggling with chronic cough, that I see on Wednesday they already tried to push my appointment back allegedly due to an emergency I was dismissed once before in my youth due to chronic pain.

Ironically allot of doctors do act this way like they are better than anyone because they graduated to be a doctor but they forgot how to be human they just act like they don't care show no compassion and treat their patients like they don't matter I'm not saying all doctors but allot of them do it that it becomes noticeable

Why do some doctors tell women that it’s “all in your head”?

The doctor's name is Louis Budd? Was the writer a fan of Abbott and Costello?

It's 2023 and they still are dismissing women like this. This is why i only get nurse practitioners... they tend to care more than doctors
