  • This episode had a lot of mold in it 😵 Many items that were damaged from water had mold growing on it. It was a big Tossy Tossy episode as we had to get rid of a lot of items that became biohazard!!!

Maybe one suggestion for the Dalmatian collection, is (when/if you're ready to let it go) you could sell it online as 'lot collection' and donate the money to a charity that works to prevent bullying, or offer counseling services to affected youth. Possibly a way to let go of the hurt and also help someone else who was affected by bullying as well.🤗 💗💗💗 Also, you could possibly use the dresser in the corner to organize your crafting supplies (once the mold has been addressed and permanently fixed). Great job. Looks amazing!!👍💯😊

@@ahoardersheart I was also bullied as a little girl and child, so I can TOTALLY understand. In one of my most painful memories I was teased by neighborhood boys because I was a child of a single parent. They ripped my winter coat off and stompped it into dog poop and snow, so that I couldn't wear it, and I had to finish walking home from school in freezing temps without one. (I was 5 years old and it was my kindergarten year. )I didn't understand why I was being targeted, but I went deep internally and became extremely introverted. My stuffed animals became My "safe friends", and aside from My one best friend, I avoided all other kids if possible. I'll never forget that little purple stuffed jacket, or how awful bullying feels. I'm now raising my own son to be as loving and compassionate as possible. He loves our animals and playing (gently) with other children as well. Healing is possible. Only do what you want to do when you're ready. Thank You for sharing your journey and healing with us, Ms. Heart.💗💗💗.

When I see those sentimental things you hoarded bc of being bullied I just think about all the negative emotions attached to those items. I had items like that too. It felt so good when I finally let them go bc that negative energy was no longer with me and I didn't see them to be reminded of what happened.

It hurts to let them go, but it's so liberating and rewarding when you do. It's like the past is swept out to shore, and you can begin again. Congrats on that feeling-- it's like the final destination of the de-clutter!

It took me a long time to let go of my diaries. There were 99% negative memories in there because that was one way that I coped. They are completely irreplaceable. Letting them go... I dwell on that old feeling less than before, and positivity is very important for my health.

    • @Shepz963
      @Shepz963 4 года назад +5

Exactly. It seems like they just carry the negative emotions of that time, even though it was something you truly loved. It’s ok to let go of things you love because they hurt you.

I realize that it is best to circle back maybe 3, 4, 5 times before you are able to let go of the most difficult items, however, those sentimental pieces that were acquired at the time when you felt your lowest and have those negative memories attached to them, those items are actually holding you back from healing all the way. Until you get rid of them and let them go you will always have that sad box sitting their reminding your brain and bringing up the sad memories that are attached to that period in time. I hope that makes sense and in the not so distant future you will allow yourself to let go of the crappy memories and love yourself enough to heal. Because this isn't about hoarding, hoarding is just a symptom of the core issue.

Oh dear... I had this lesson, too. I was about 18 and my parents decided to move to a smaller appartement because I would finish school soon and leave. My new room was much smaller so I had to store some things in the garage. Just for half a year or so. When I had my own apartement and wanted to have them back, the boxes where so mouldy that I tossed everything. Including favourite books from my childhood. This taught me: If you do not have space for something in your apartement, better let it Go. Donating or selling things is better than store them until they are destroyed. My aunt just gave me children books from my Cousin that were stored in the basement for 20 years. They were in good condition, but they smelled like basement and I did not want to give them to my kids. Hard lesson...

I know you had water in your basement, but I would definitely put a dehumidifier in there. You'd be amazed at how much water is removed from the air, the air quality is so much better, and it will help or eliminate the mold issue(depending on if you have water continually coming in). Also, there are specialists that can waterproof and clean your damaged basement walls.

Another day of accomplishment! I asked the men for anything they did not like or not wearing from their closet. We dropped a big bag off at the homeless shelter this morning My son( a pro artist ) did the same with art supplies and donated to the local art teacher. We also dropped off garden goodies and clothes for Alan’s sister. Whew! TY for the inspiration for others!

I was bullied in middle school too and while I’m not a hoarder, I spent many years afterwards doing things to spite the bullies. Thinking to myself, “See? I’m not what you thought I was.” But then I realized that that was giving them way too much power over my life, that I was allowing them to still control me years after they were gone. So I ask you to really think about those things that you’ve hoarded from that era of your life: Do they actually bring you comfort now, or are they inviting these horrible people into your new life? Are you thinking of how happy you currently are when you look at them, or of the bad emotions you were trying to ward off all those years ago? Whatever you decide, I’m so proud of how far you’ve come in your healing. I’d just hate for some mean middle schoolers to have any part in decisions you make as a thriving adult.

I agree with a few suggestions about the Dalmatian stuff, writing the letter to a younger you, selling the stuff and donating the money to a charity but whatever and whenever you do that release it with love (which I know will be hard) but you don’t need the reminding of that time of your life. Your a fantastic woman whose a great wife and mother and with all life’s ups and downs can still think, help and share with others both with physical stuff being donated and emotionally helping people understand hoarding, motivating us and encouraging us to release stuff. Don't worry about keeping things like the dalmation stuff right now. You're still going through the first part, decluttering phase one. Phase one is getting rid of actual trash and easy things. Once that's halved what's in your basement you have some breathing space and can slowly go through phase two which is the slightly more difficult stuff, when you can see it all together and think rationally about it (like, do I really need 700 rolls of ribbon haha) and eventually, phase three which is the things you'd never thought you could let go of but you will be able to like sentimental things.
This is a totally made up strategy by the way and just how I've figured out how to deal with hoarding myself. Phase one is just reducing my clutter and leaving big decisions till later and it stops my anxiety knowing I don't need to feel bad about saving the harder stuff till later. It's the only way I can cope with doing it and it's really working for me! I'm even getting rid of some 'phase two' stuff in phase one because I'm not feeling the pressure if that makes sense? It's a bit like konmarie round two is always easier than round one and you always get rid of more the second time that you couldn't bear to part with the first go. It's a slow process but we're still moving forward every day :)

Well put👏 a few episodes ago I left a very similar comment🙂 This is her first phase, of just looking for things to toss. The next phase is “choosing” what to keep. Baby steps, but really you have to face each item. You only get better by trying💪💪💪

you're doing the right thing for your kids. good job. My Dad hoarded (mostly the basement) for over 40 yrs and once in a while he would allow us to sell something but basically both he and my mom said they would leave it to me to deal with when they're gone. (My brother is an even worse hoarder so I'm the only one capable of dealing with it / letting it all go). It's taken over 3 yrs after Dad's passing to sell off most of Dad's stuff... it made Mom money but she fought me the whole way and said "I don't need the money". Yet, she didn't want me to throw it out either. There's still some items to go. It's been a real burden.... both mentally and physically (he hoarded large pieces of oak antique furniture and I'm a mid-age lady and had to hoist this stuff out of the basement myself). Yes mold is a real problem even with wood furniture and it's hard on the living children to deal with items... breathing mold and also feeling guilty getting rid of the deceased parent's stuff.

You did the right things by putting aside the two sentimental bins and you kept moving. Trying to tackle them before you are ready would just slow you down. I agree with some suggestions for when you are ready, get rid of trash, identify what is usable (I have reused a bunch of the gift bags from my baby shower) and keep what really means something to you. Cards with messages can be treasured but ones with only signatures can probably go.

I started giving things away or donating. The main thing is to be away and free ... i have given friends (3-4) the most important things they need when moving out of their parents' house and still i am not missing anything!!!!!!..................... now I'll be 41 and clear out the things I never use once a year .... ok I have a husband and soon two children, the big one is 3 and he has lots of toys but soon he has to share with the baby.

Simple bleach and water is the best for cleaning mold off of walls. Sometimes you have to wipe down the wall a few times (especially with drywall). There is also mold resistant paint (Killz). Good luck!

I’ve found that diluted oil of cloves (you can find it in tiny bottles in the toothache section at drugstore maybe - we call them chemists) really works to kill the mould. It seems to recur more when I’ve tried to clean with bleach. It’s natural but still not nice for skin at cleaning strength so gloves and a mask. Upside is the basement will smell like Christmas lol! And yep.... Follow up with the killer paint once you’re waterproofing.

@@ahoardersheart No no no - please don't use bleach!!! Bleach can make mold way worse. Google it - bleach is a no-no!
If you'd like to do it more naturally, get some cleaning vinegar (regular white vinegar but with a higher acetic level, but regular white vinegar works, too), spray it down, clean it up, and manually dry it up. To REALLY do a good job, get some tea tree oil and mix it into water, spray liberally getting into all the crevices, wipe it up, and manually dry.
That said, this will only kill the mold that is on the surface. You will have mold spores flying around that you should probably get an air filter for. More importantly, you should have the source of the leak fixed ASAP.

As someone else said under an other video of yours: it could be nice to use the corner (when it's empty and mould free) to put the bins you have gone through in.
It could make it easier to see what you have achieved and to see all the bins and how much you have in each category in one spot. Just until you have decluttered the whole basement. This could also make it easier to make decisions on which category you could do the conmari decluttering or how much place you need for this category, ... afterwards
The video was amazing as always💕 amazing for much you give away this easy💕

I cannot tell you how excited and happy I was to see the wall appear. Do you have plans for that empty corner? I was thinking that you could neatly pack all the storage boxes that have been left in the middle, with their labels clearly showing. That might get the middle of the basement in to an easier space to declutter. - Edit: i read the other comments and I see that it might not be a great idea to stack things against an outside wall.

Amazing darling lady! Your steadfastness in doing this regularly impresses me so much!
Two thoughts for when you go back through your collection and memorabilia.
Firdt: Does the sentimental object remind you of negative emotions and events? Your sentimental item, if it makes you be reminded of or recall vividly a negative emotion, relationship or event, one might consider letting it go for that reason alone. This thought helped my mother to let go of some sentimental objects from a disastrous ex-bf...12 years later. And helped my brother let go of some useful and usable items his ex-gf left behind but were depressing him a few years later.
2nd: collections that do bring joy can be edited to the few that bring the most pleasure, those one likes the most. Some collections build from a few items that one really liked and then more items being added just because a collection already existed. Choosing representative items can help curate a collection. I did this with my tchotchke, and I still have a lot...but I also have less.
