- We had a 2 week break since our last Basement Declutter and it’s time to get in there, are my “Purge Sisters” ready to clean? I’m excited to clear out another space in our hoarded basement!!

Decision making exhaustion is very real!!
I was thinking about your recent house update video and had this thought. You should go ahead and paint your bedroom, get the new bedding and whatever else you want to get to look the way you envision. If you make it a room in which you love you will be more apt to keep it organized and clean. It’s amazing how much a pretty room makes you feel calmer and happier. I know from experience....just do it now and stop putting off “till this is done or it’s all de cluttered “.
Awe, you are too sweet!! I noticed I’m like that with the living room since we got the new carpet! I’ve been keeping it nice each day, making sure things are put away every night!! It does keep you motivated to keep it tidy!!!

No need to justify a carpet to keep with a realistic intended use. Its a nice carpet, why waste money and put it in the landfill when you will actually need one in the foreseeable future.

If you get the basement cleared out you can move the playroom down there when your boys want their own rooms. It looks big enough it could be a workout space, play room, and bonus little family area.

Playroom, workout and crafting. We want her to have space to make good use of all these ribbons and to gift hand-made joy (and re-gifts) instead of just something from the store 😉
@@christinabo63 I imagine her having one of those cool crafting units with all the neat drawers and spools for ribbon, and a big crafting table. She absolutely deserves to have that space for herself, ESPECIALLY with all this work.
Miss Heart, long time subscriber here. I noticed in your basement that you have your ceiling fiberglass insulation starting to come apart in areas. You need to have your hubby address this, as the fiberglass is very toxic and will get on your stuff. Based upon the severity, you may want to consider wearing gloves and a mask while you are working. Erica Lucas’s channel deals with how she experienced fiberglass issues in her storage area and how she handled them.
P.S. A senior or nursing home would love to get those crochet squares.

re: fancy dishes, I watched this great decluttering video about "decluttering your fantasy self" - your "fantasy self" has a perfect china cabinet and probably uses those dishes on special occasions. but your REAL self has them in a box in the back of a packed basement where they'll never get used. your real self doesn't need those dishes. just food for thought :D
I used my China two years ago for a holiday. It can't go in the dishwasher so its a pain in the rear when clean up time comes. Instead, I use the soup terreain as a holder for dried fruit or flowers everyday.
It's either good enough to use every day or it's not. Some day might never come.
She could probably sell them for a pretty penny. People will buy sets like that for wedding events or whatever. But you're 100% right - we need to stop holding onto things for our fantasy selves.
I thought she might as well just use them every day. Better than them being stored away in a box unused.

Put the crocheted squares in the yard sale. I once sold a half-sewn quilt, with some squares assembled and some not even assembled! (Not for much money, though.)

I wouldn't put carpet in the basement for that exact reason: moisture! If any of them are in good condition, put them on FB marketplace and let it go. Same with the crochet stuff-even if you put it up for free, I'm sure someone would come get it!
This is an excellent point. If the rug will only be a moisture collector, there is no reason to keep it because it will just get ruined anyway.
Take the rug to a car wash garage and give the carpet a good washing, then put it up for sale. People will pay good money for carpets.
Maybe you could put your lovely wedding plates and pieces somewhere you can access them and use them on Christmas or thanksgiving or even valentines :) so you see them but they're not just becoming and everyday item that could get broken. Xox keep up the great work!!

If one rug has mold ..I bet the others do too..the mold spores are there even if you cant see them..toss them out ..don't make your family sick....I would have hubby push what's left in that corner over to the other side...that way you would have one corner cleaned out..set up that desk and start it as a craft corner..
Fungi spores are everywhere even in the cleanest home.... outside in nature... like literally everywhere. If it hasn't been breaking out chances are high you can wash it and bring the spores down to a more healthy level. But overall the rugs should be fine if no mold is showing

When that corner gets cleared, it would be a good place to move all the bins you’ve already gone through. Then when you’re all done decluttering, you’ll have the center of the basement for organizing things.

Perhaps put those granny squares? on FB market place for free porch pickup. Stick them in your tub outside and not worry about finding a specific donation place.

your exercise bike gave me an idea: it's cool looking and you could take a nice photo of it and just keep that for the memories-if you wanted to ride it, you probably would have already! but you could make a whole photo wall in the basement of items you decluttered but that spark joy in your memory, either with frames or a big pin board. it could be a fun way to remember items and your cleaning journey, as well as a cool art piece!
This is a good idea! I think finding different ways of capturing the memory is really useful. Pictures in particular are a smart way of doing it.
I am a retired teacher, and I had piles and piles and piles of letters/drawings/etc. from my students. I *really* didn't want to get rid of them, but they were just taking up space. So, I sat down one day and just took pictures of everything, and recycled it all. I am glad I don't have the clutter, but I still have the memories.

I would clean out a cupboard in your kitchen and put your china in it and use it. I waited for 40 years to finally take mine from storage. What a waste. Now when my children and grandchildren come over for meals we use it. Please don't wait. I put all of mine in a cupboard.

Use those gorgeous dishes! We keep storing things for special occasions that never seem to arrive. Things are meant to be used. Make every meal a special occasion and use those plates. Enjoy them.

Maybe idea when you come to sentimental items just set them aside to do later. The reason I say that is that maybe you get through more space with less decision fatigue and you can konMari method it all together and see if it all has the same value later. I do all my sentimental items together. I noticed that you get over whelmed by sentimental things very fast and I think most would agree we all get overwhelmed. it's normal. We all have different amount of sentimental items. I gave myself a space limit for things. With clothes it has to fit in my dresser and closet and if it doesn't I need to purge. I have my crafts are sorted by type and I keep bin for each one and that's it. I'm not saying you have to do the same but maybe it an idea to consider for later. I love your video and your progress keep going keep at it. I know you will be able to have your dream basement before you know it. Keep the vision and write your vision on a poster board for the basement and hang it up down there. I did a vision board for my bedroom and it's almost there two years in the making. I very picky. Lol
My daughter said how come she does put stuff she keep on the same side of the room. I didn't even notice that you put the bike on the opposite side as the tv. I guess. That might help things go along a lil faster as well. Idk we all work different is what I told her. She ok. Maybe because we are her friend now we can tell her our idea. I found it so sweet. January 2024. Every day, I toss a pile of stuff. Papers get recycled, trash gets tossed. Another pile of books and magazines goes to the library. Clothes and dishes go to Goodwill. Art supplies get donated to kids or seniors. Then, we get to cat litter, dishes, and laundry. Not perfect, but better. Tina, Al's wife

Just a reminder: the laundry isn't done until the clothes are put away where they belong.
Same with decluttering, it's not done until the things you decided to discard are out of the house for good.
I love seeing your progress! So fun! I also love your new profile pic- it’s your face! 😄 I have a question: when you put aside a box for the yard sale, do you label it “yard sale”? I was wondering if there’s a chance it might get mixed in with the stuff that you still have to go through and if you might find yourself having to go through it again...?
Is that a clothing rack behind the bike? My advice to you, we use those in our garage/yard sales to hang clothes and the clothes sell faster when hung up. So if you have clothes to sell in the fall you can use that to hang up your clothes/coats/costumes even towels or window coverings.
Hi, I'm so excited for you!!! Your living room.looks great!! Dont put more in there . Except a couple more decorative items or pictures on the wall. Can you put dinning hutch in there with your China? Move cube furniture out, you could use the bottom of the hutch to store whatever you had in those cubes. Also, that saran wrapped tall skinny dresser in basement, put that in your bedroom to store accessories....also, go ahead and lay out that rug in an area of basement, set up the desk you have down there, start your gift wrap station/ arts and craft area...put play room down there, cozy round the fire place and set up big tv for games...you seem to have enough furniture to use...if kids are not ready for own rooms yet? Put desks in playroom for office area and distance learning and future homework, guest room? I'm so excited for you!!!! I havent commented in a while, but have watched all your videos and really like them
Paper, the bane. X) Even if you "only" clear out the two stacks with papers, going through that takes for me a lot of energy so I see those alone as a huge win.
Also, much hate for mold.
If you got time for it, you (and hubby) could take out the keep-rugs and use the power wash to give them a good rinse. Let the warmth and sun dry them out while there is all this weather for it.
And maybe come winter/next spring, you could move around things so you could put one out on the floor in the basement and then you could do KonMari videos on top of it instead of potentially lugging all those boxes upstairs.

Just use the fancy dishes! Do a konmarie on the kitchen stuff and use your most lovely ones. You see them every day and that will give you joy. Now the are stored away and you never see them. Do not store it away for a fantasy future self that you might never be. Let it bring you joy now! And if one breaks? Well thats life.
Could you donate the deconstructed blanket to a church? Our women in our church make blankets for shut-ins and others. Most of the work will be done already. Or they could make some good coasters for drinks to go on. LOL
I think you can just use the china plates daily, it will bring you so much joy to look at beautiful things.
after all, people who gifted you the set wanted you to use it, not to store in a basement or in a cabinet.

I was wondering, why dont you get the things that were the kids and take pictures of it with them?
Like the DVDs you had, you said it was from your oldest baby so why dont you let him hold them and you take pictures of them. And once your done, you tell them goodbye and smile knowing its going to be given to someone else who will enjoy it.
Maybe you could put the China cabinet you have in the garage in the dining/living room where the cube shelf stands now? That way you could display your beautiful china in it! I love you and your videos!

Great progress! I'm sure some of the things that you're torn on will become easy donations in the future when you have less decision fatigue. You made many decisions in this episode that you would have struggled with in the past (like paper or things that you could use in the future). Way to go!
My parents had the same style of bike and since my dad is a hoarder they probably still have it in their basement.

I went through my winter clothes last evening and surprised to find 4 items I did not use last winter and do not think I will need this year. So hot here, it is trying to storm but not yet. Are you home schooling this fall?

Thank you, as always, for your inspiration. I'm not necessarily a hoarder, but I do have a hard time letting go of silly things...extra and unused sheets, movies that no one has watched in over 10 years, unused furniture, clothes and the like. Because of YOU, today I decluttered over half of my DVDs, holding onto only the ones I know my grandkids and I really enjoy. I "rehomed" a DVD storage unit and a bunk bed to families in need. Next up...being truly brutal with my dresser drawers. Thank you for all the encouragement and for sharing your story.
Oh, the crocheted blocks can go to a nursing home. Lots of the residents enjoy doing blankets and lap blankets with yarn, but don't always have the funds to acquire the supplies. Take care and God bless!!!

I am so proud of what you accomplish each episode. I'm only 24 I bought my house 2 years ago and went from no stuff to way too much stuff very quickly and I if I dont sort myself out now itll only get worse. You are such an inspiration
Part of the recovery process is having a vision for your space and working toward that vision we’re all excited to see you get some areas in your basement that are usable for your family
I was thinking this, too. Personally, I like to brainstorm/visualize what my "dream" space is, and then if anything isn't a part of that, it's gone.
I have cleaned mouldy rugs before
Lay them flat on the concrete outside
Gentle water blast/pressure wash or hose the rug
Mix up a couple of buckets of napisan/oxy bleach or whatever you would use in the US to soak cloth nappies in and soak the rug with it.
Gently agitate with a soft broom on both sides and let sit for a few hours whilst keeping it wet with the cleaning solution
Then use the water blaster or hose to rinse and let it dry flat in the sun
Flip the rug to make sure its bone dry before bringing it back inside
Its always worked for me, although some rugs colour may run I guess, although this hasn't happened with me

That striped area rug. i had something very similar in my basement. i only had a couple light area rugs, in basement. Before going out of town we would roll them and toss on the counter. I do not trust basements even with sump pumps, But an area rug does soften noise, allows a floor kids to play. Or a good demarcation of areas for the exercise area.
I dont know about those croche pieces, maybe some one will have them if you put them in Fb market place for free, but you have so many things to declutter, sell and donate that it maybe be best if you just simply trash them, It is not worth the effort and I think you have to chose your battles

Why not use one of the carpets for the living room? I know you just got a new carpet in, but I believe the room could very much profit from more defined areas and clear separated spaces (couch/lounge, entry/walking and dining)

It's looking fabulous!!! I'm so proud of how far you have come. Our extra fridge went out and we had to call warranty to get them to come fix it... Guess where it is!! 😳🤦🏻♀️😱 You already know.. my basement! 😂 I'm already dreading someone going down there, im beyond embarrassed. It looks 100 times better than it did a year ago, 6 months ago even, but it's no where near presentable. 😕 However, I have 4 other mouths to feed I need that fridge!

May I suggest you making a list of all the little things you like to declutter/konmari/organize in the future? Just a little checklist so you have a good overview of what still to do, what can be prioritized an what can be dealt with a little later?
