Fantastic review. As an owner of the SPB143, this new iteration is exactly what I wanted. I have two gripes with my SPB143. First, there's the long clasp and the wonky and fairly useless dive extension. I wish they got rid of it completely, but at least the clasp is shorter. Also, the fact that the case is ever so slightly smaller is welcome. Finally, I don't like the grey sunburst dial on the SPB143. I know it looks great in some shots, but in direct sunlight seems washed out and the legibility isn't great. Having owned black and blue dial divers, I can tell you that for me black is the way to go. I always end up wearing a black dial watch more since it's so versatile and I love the monochrome, understated look. So I will be upgrading to the SPB451 and probably sell my SPB143. I think that one is the perfect daily + travel watch and you are right about the diashield coating. My SPB143 looks absolutely flawless after 3 years of daily wear and I never tried to baby this watch. It's actually the reason why I'll still go with a Seiko instead of other brand even though there are things I don't like about Seiko (QC issues, movement accuracy and of course the price bump).
I agree with you! The blue one is my favorite. Can’t wait to see them in person. I think that matching the date wheel color to the dial plays a big part in making the date placement work. I don’t really mind the date at 4:30 in these new releases but if the date wheels were all white it would bug me for sure haha
The new case design and dimensions are beautiful. Also, people seem to be very divided on the date placement. While I hate(!) 4:30 date windows the circular window, colour matched date wheel, and vertically oriented numerals are very attractive. Very Bell & Ross, who does the best date complocations in the industry in my opinion.
I just know they’ll definitely bring back the grey sunray dial and black bezel version sometime in the future, seeing how popular and iconic the SPB143 is . Love all the refinements in case dimensions and as a sucker for symmetry the colour matched date wheel at 4:30 is perfect!
@@BowlOfSalmon so the blue dial watch has a blue date wheel and the SE has a grey date wheel with yellow/cream numerals? Maybe it’s my eyes but they all simply look like white text on black bg in the photos and videos I’ve seen.
I think this is an overall improvement but I still prefer the sunray grey dial and brushed bezel of the 143 than the black dial and matte black bezel with the circular 4:30 date that looks to be taken out of the willard. I also don’t like the “3 days”. I think the black would’ve been a nice secondary option to a sunray grey/brushed bezel. Plus my 143 is a companion to my sje093.
I can only applaud More options. Given the choice between mine or this. I would hesitate. I think the Sunray dial and brushed bezel wins it in terms of looks for me personally
I do own a SPB143, totally agree it's a great watch I just spent the last two weeks with it on my wrist as my one and only while roadtriping, it's my holiday or under the radar watch. I bought it for times I don't want to wear a luxury item, but guess what sometimes I do pick it up because I do enjoy wearing it not because I have to. My only advice is to wear it on a rubber cause Seiko Natos are good looking but too thick and to me the bracelet is not very confortable. The new dimensions seem to be a good improvement and I do like the new position for the date.
Great video Tom. Bracelet seems like a dealbreaker. Why Seiko continues to make great watches with average bracelets makes me scratch my head. Also the accuracy isn’t great either even though the movement has been upgraded. I feel like a nice Seventy30 B&J NATO would look great.
@@trishhunt3137it's not, my man. I tried this watch early at AD at my place. They upgraded their bracelet. It feels more comfortable than the old version.
Beautiful watch. I like the improvements here. The only thing I don't care for is the movement. Seiko has an amazing 6L and 8L movements. I have owned an 8L, the monoblock marine master, and it was a gem, one of my favorite watches I took everywhere with me and kept excellent time. Previously, I had a 6R15 and was much less impressed with the performance there--back then that was for 800 dollars, the so-called Pepsi bezel on the mm200 back in 2018. I'm reluctant to try a 6R again, this time at 1300.
already tried this watch in AD at my place. at first I thought this model would have some issues like before, after I checked it up,was a little surprised, because the use of this watch is very comfortable, the bezel is in the right place, and the size is a bit thin, compare to my spb143. the finishing looks neat & luxurious. I think Seiko has started to realize and fear that Citizen will take over the hearts of JDM watch fans 😂😂😂
Cool to see a hands-on, since the announcement. I prefer the symmetry of a no date, but I realize that I check my watch daily for the day of the month. Best of both worlds. If I got a exclusively no-date, I feel like I'd eventually regret if given the option.
My 143 has dominated my collection. I love that watch. I also have the 455 preordered. Thanks for the video. Im super hyped to get that watch on my wrist come June.

Hi Tom, Thankyou for making a great video, especially for us Seiko fans 😃 Overall, it’s a great upgrade for these line up.. The Black one is dope in real 🔥 The other colors are also stunning, there is not a bad choice. I wanted the silver/golden but I changed my mind after I put them on my wrist.
@@BowlOfSalmon I will be honest with you. I was really close, but in the last minute I went for the Mido Multifort TV Big Date, because I think it’s more versatile when it comes to office outfit. But this Seiko is still on my list and sooner or later I will buy it. The black one!
I wish I had somewhere to try on some of these. I am looking for a good daily watch and considering various things from 1k to 5k. This seems a bit on the smaller side. I don't have a big wrist but eyesight is not great at this point and I guess I just always had big watches (worn a lot my Mako XL before I dropped it accidentally). It does look great and I wonder if I need anything more or not. I will try to keep an eye out and try it on if I see it somewhere.

Price update: So i just bought the black dial version a few days ago for $1063 or €984. And that is what I love about Seiko and their relationships with their ADs. I was choosing between this and a Hamilton "Interstellar", when the price dropped I got this. But the mere fact this watch gets compared to Omega, Tudor, etc. at 3x or 4x price you know Seiko has a winner and as the price drops the vaue proposition gets that much better. IMHO, best looking 300m diver on the market today given the dimensions.
How is the fitment of the end links? That was a complaint I had with the 143; bracelet was okay, but for a $1k watch the end links should at least fit properly into the case!
The blue one looks good, but I still think my 143 oldest version, without the lume plot at 3 o clock is the best one ☺️ I really enjoy your videos btw ✌🏼
I wasn’t a fan the time I tried on the original, probably due to the grey hues. I think this version looks great on video and I’ve loved the porthole date since I saw it on the bell&ross. I will no longer consider a watch without a date but the issue I may have with this is my ability to read it with my aging eyes.
Hey great video! My most worn watch is my spb143, but my only complaint is the bracelet. Did you say that the new bracelets are not compatible with the spb143?
I really like the monochrome Black dial version, but that new shorter clasp with only 2 micro adjustments is a deal breaker, to getting a good fit. I’ll stick with my SPB149.
Thanks for the review! The diashield coating makes my SPB143 look almost grey like titanium. Is it the same with these 3 models? From the comparison in your video it looks that way.
Once it comes out in June, I could only imagine the struggle between the choices of spb453 and the Tudor Monochrome. And I can’t believe I’m watching a channel called Bowl of Salmon.
I'm definitely on the blue dial train!! It's a shame that Seiko still used old pin and collar bracelets w/old clasps (no onthefly macro adj) on these $1500 divers. Several micro brands put Seiko to shame in that area. Still, I do like these and may have to pick up that blue dial just to see how I like it.
@@BowlOfSalmon maybe it's just older tech. I've had issues w/old Omega pin/collar bracelets when resizing, even using proper tools. It's just easier w/screws. You're not totally wrong though. My biggest 'issue' is the old lack of an on-the-fly macro adjust clasp given the huge price increase in Seiko's over the past 3-5 years.
that round hole 4:30 date is the cheapest looking solution to a date problem they could have ever thought of, ffs Seiko. I’m glad I have a spb239 and I’m holding onto it for dear life as long as I don’t find a cheap sla043.
I would get this. But the price hikes keep going. And they still don’t offer a nice on the fly adjustment clasp. At least when they hold prices they should also make better watches with tighter accuracy tolerances (as else it’s still just a 6R as found in watches a fourth of the price years back) and better clasps on their bracelets in my opinion.
@@BowlOfSalmon all good. I think i heard you saying the new has aluminum inserts. If so, I will miss the steel inserts of the 143 and its variants. Steel is simply the best insert material to me, and least used
Great new models. Seiko just needs to upgrade their bracelets. Lose the divers extension and use a Glyde lock microadjust. Also get rid of the pins and collars and go to screws.
@@BowlOfSalmon great, thanks, i was too lazy to get to it thru the video, im sure u got it. Ah yes, the 55, i forgot about it. Oh well, still the 35 type with a couple hours more, no big difference in movement. Thanks!

Once it comes out in June, I could only imagine the struggle between the choices of spb453 and the Tudor Monochrome. And I can’t believe I’m watching a channel called Bowl of Salmon.
It’s a tough fight between me and the poke bowls
Where's the Lume part?
Had to rush the video. Only had the Watches for a couple of hours. I did test it and it’s as you expect from
These. Super good
Show the watch running I can't see the sweep of the hands , the quickset, crown action ? 🤔
I did state the watches didn’t have live movements.
I wonder why we dislike pin and collar that much tho. We only need to do the size bracelet thing once no ? And usually the ad would do it
@@BowlOfSalmon maybe it's just older tech.
Blue one easily looks the best, but I’m wondering if the accuracy will be as dreadfully poor as my SPB 143……
even with my spb not being the most accurate of the bunch .. I still love it
Hi, great review as always. I don’t suppose you know if the bracelet on the spb143 bracelet fit these spb453 models?
thanks man . I tried it and it does not. the end link have a different shape
This model would suggest or reconfirm the
discontinuation of marine master300m
i have no intel on that
Why no lume shot...🤔
Time constraints. Forgot.
SEIKO DOESN'T FORCE YOU TO BUY IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT❤😮😊
Caps lock was on. How to interpret this
that round hole 4:30 date is the cheapest looking solution to a date problem they could have ever thought of, ffs Seiko. I’m glad I have a spb239 and I’m holding onto it for dear life as long as I don’t find a cheap sla043.
Seeing more brands approach it like this lately. It hides well enough in plain sight
is the lume still green? I see Seiko opted for a blue tone in the new SNXS models.
the LE had green .. the blue had blue if i'm not mistaken ... not sure about the black ... I tested it but forgot to make video ...
I agree some things can be done to step up the game ...
what watch case is this? it looks great!
🙄
The "automatic 3 days" text ruins the dial in my opinion
Could be worse written in seconds
Nonsense, did the original text « dialshock 24 jewels »ruin the dial ?
is new version's bezel aluminum ?
It does. But I think it’s been treated with a coating
The first Seiko I like. But a little pricey though. What about the accuracy of this model in daily use?
My spb performed around +- 15
How is the accuracy on these?
As advertised I would hope. Dummy mvmtIn the review. Can’t say
I would just keep saving for a little longer and get a Tudor
I did too. But I couldn’t let go of the spb
what is the music at the beginning?
Something licensed from Epidemic sound. Sure Shazam can tell
Spb143 has brushed STEEL inserts btw
True. Treated so they are harder. What did I say btw …
@@BowlOfSalmon all good. I think i heard you saying the new has aluminum inserts. If so, I will miss the steel inserts of the 143 and its variants. Steel is simply the best insert material to me, and least used
Blue or black for me.
Great new models. Seiko just needs to upgrade their bracelets. Lose the divers extension and use a Glyde lock microadjust. Also get rid of the pins and collars and go to screws.
Upgrades are due indeed
complete copy of Pelagos or is Pelagos a copy of this?
the 62mas has been around for a long time.. but I have to admit when I open my watchbox I confuse them a little too
i wish it had crown guads
bwah. this just looks better
Just leave the date window off one of them, Seiko ! geeze
Selling watches could be simple right !?
It’s to dive for.
good one
The date window seems a bit delicate and at odds with the rest of the watch. No date would have been better in my opinion.
I’d love to see that one too
Still missing the signed crown
Rolex are still missing the signed caseback but everyone thinks that ok for the price.
Point 👌
Would be a nice detail
Sorry, but what is the movement powering it?
I did get that right in the video ;) 6R55
@@BowlOfSalmon great, thanks, i was too lazy to get to it thru the video, im sure u got it. Ah yes, the 55, i forgot about it. Oh well, still the 35 type with a couple hours more, no big difference in movement. Thanks!
@@BowlOfSalmon thanks for the early video of it. Frankly, it looks good. I hadnt expected it. This should be the final version for years to come.
I don’t understand the “3 Days” text on the dial. And the date bugs me a little. Otherwise SEIKO TAKE MY MONEY. 😜
the text lines look to be bothering more ppl.. i honestly don't know what is written on most of my dials
Like the blue, shame the movement has a slow beat rate
Don’t be fooled by my footage tho. It was a dummy mvmt 😜
@@BowlOfSalmon yeah but it's still a low beat rate in the real thing, that's the issue with the cheaper Seiko's
For me, they’re perfect except for the aluminum bezel inserts, which is a 100% total deal breaker.
I bet they are coated somehow too tho.... was the 173 ceramic ? i don't have a scratch on it
No not until they have a no date version will this be comparable to the spb143 first gen. Close but no cigar.
still, close
