As an absolute watch nut, i am so thankful to you that you mention the bezel and dial size in your dimensions list ! Those are some of the dimensions i always check to envision how a watch would look on my wrist, you’re one of the very few that mention it in a review.
I'm glad I can help! For me the bezel width is probably the most important dimension for getting a sense of the watch's size on the wrist alongside lug to lug and dial width as well. Its especially critical for seikos since their case widths almost never paint an accurate picture of how the watch wears

I don't get people losing their minds over the date window. I really like this Seiko iteration - the size, the weight, and the stark white lume and bezel text on black.
People get so worked up about things that are super trivial with watches! 1mm size differences, lume (we need to get honest that lume is not a big deal 😄) and whether something is 100m or 200m or 300m 🤣
Agreed. I typically hate 4:30 date windows but this design is very nice. It reminds me of Bell & Ross, who in my opinion does the best date windows in the industry (together with Nomos).
I need this watch. I mean, Seiko "fixed" every detail and also reduced it to fit perfect in my 6.5 inch wrist. I think this is my definitive dive watch.

I was so surprised that these tiny differences actually amounted to such a notable change in the wearing experience especially to the point that it went from a watch that never landed for me to a watch that became one of my favorites! the weight difference was the biggest upgrade for me, second would be the clean black and white aesthetic
After hesitating for a while, I went for the spb 143. They grey dial made the difference for me, plus its cheaper. My first impression was that it was too heavy. After two days, I din't notice anymore. I just love everything about it. I can see how the newer versions are an improvement, but that grey dial... BTW, the initial inaccuracy got slowly corrected by itself in a few days. I hugely recommend it, but you can't get it wrong with either model

As an SPB143 owner, I thoroughly appreciate this review. I love my 143… except for the weight. Installing an Uncle Seiko bracelet helped in bringing down the overall weight, but the watch is now top heavy. I can only imagine how well the 453 wears when that same overall weight is better balanced.
Wearing it right now and its perfect. I've been waiting for seiko to release a mid priced diver thats not built for king kong and this is it. Very light, not painful at all to wear.
I didn’t even notice the difference in the two’s bezel graduations - and I’ve been looking at the SPB453 for awhile. Truly the RUclipsr that dives deeper than others when it comes to Seiko 💯💯

Two incredible watches, and if you are unable to gain a discount on either, I would go for the SPB453. I have stumbled across some stores discounting the SPB143 by as much as 46%, so I ended up grabbing one - the sunburst dail on the 143 is killer, and weight won't be an issue on a different strap. Either way, I think most people would be very happy with either watch. Nice review.
That means a lot to me bc I always try to include information that can't normally be found in other videos or spec sheets. Glad that I could be of use! Btw there technically is a way to put this bracelet on the 143. Basically what you'll have to do is take the endlinks off of both bracelets the way you'd take off links via the pins to adjust the size. Then you can attach the 143 endlinks onto the new bracelet. However there will be a gap between the endlink and the first link since the links on the new bracelet are shorter. So it's up to you if this extra gap looks ok to you!

Nice to hear from someone else who loves a 430 date window! Yeah the date change happens from about 10/1030 to maybe about 1230 ish? This is normal for all seikos, movements with a day indicator take up to about to 2/3 am.
This is why you gotta try on watches in person sometimes. Had the previous 147 but just didn’t quite do it for me, although I’m a huge fan of the 62mas design language. Went to my local Seiko AD to check out another piece and saw these new ones- ended up buying the blue version. I’m actually surprised the big websites and more reviews don’t mention how different this new version wears. Even though it’s overall thickness isn’t as substantial vs the old model- the mid case is so much thinner wearing, and the new lugs taper down considerably more than the flatter lugs in the previous version, plus the smaller diameter and shorter lug to lug AND the better bracelet.. this is an absolute home run
Great comparison here and I really like the newer model and especially on the rubber strap. I bet it would look great on a NATO as well. These 62MAS watches really have grown on me over time. I just looked for a blue model because they had those nice softer blue versions in the pass but the 451 is too blue to me. Then I saw the 455 heritage edition which looks spectacular. Tempting. Strong watch with a cool look ... maybe Seiko will make a GMT of this next LOL!
I still prefer the SPB143 over the new versions. The only improvement for me on the updated versions is the smaller case and new date location. The SPB143 has a nicer bezel insert (hard-coated stainless steel instead of cheap aluminum), a much better clasp (4 micro-adjusts versus 2 - yet the cask wears the same due to the folding portion) and the sunburst grey dial just can’t be beat. If they did a new version with a brushed matte ceramic insert and grey dial I’d probably sell my SPB143. But not for these new ones with a few downgrades (bezel insert, crappy clasp, no grey sunburst dial).
I love my 143, and it’s really been a tool watch to me - really quite beaten up at this point. I don’t know if I’ll replace it ever but it’s nice to see they’re iterating on this watch. I prefer the dial on the 143 though I would have loved to get the SJE093 (I think that’s right?) but it was sold out + no bracelet, and paying that much for a watch that competes with Tudor etc is hard to justify when it’s not offering even close to the same experience.
It's always great to hear about watches being fully used and scratched up! I'm trying to naturally get more scratches on some of my watches bc I want it to look like MY watch! Yeah the SJE093 is awesome and was super tempting but I agree with all your points I wish it wasn't limited and I wish it came on a bracelet as well (with a good clasp) then it would have been a bit more justified
Outstanding! I am sure your 143 looks all the much better for being so well-used. I own the old Tudor Heritage Ranger and, similarly, it carries many battle scars which it attained in my work in the outdoors. It has so much character as a tool watch. 😊
I like this update, and wish Seiko would follow other brands such as Rolex in terms of having a smaller (core) catalogue of models that they consistently iterate upon and improve. We don’t need 15 different Willards. Do one, in a few colours, and try to make it better every 5 years.
The problem with Seiko is they are competing with themselves. They don’t have an incentive to make their watches better. How long can they continue to use a 6R movement when other brands are using more accurate movements or even no on the fly adjustments on the bracelet. I’m a Seiko fan boy but I feel like I ordered a cheeseburger and they forgot the cheese.
Great vid once again. I was torn between this one in blue and the mm200 gmt. I went for the GMT but this one is still in my mind. It wears like a dream. In that aspect its perfection. I see a brother for the gmt in the future.

I think 143 better looking wish could have 143 dial with this case and bracelet and a clasp with 3 micro adjusts a middle ground between the old and new.
Thank you for your review. Love the watch with the black dial. I'll most likely pull the trigger on this as it looks like a great daily wear, especially with the scratch resistant coating. That said, a little love from Seiko with a signed crown would have been nice.

I have the spb 455 special edition and I like it a lot. The loose end link of the spb 143 has been fixed and the new bracelet wears better. We are spoilt for choices because the older spb and its other models are now more available, for those who prefer them. The 6r55 performed well in the entire week I was wearing the watch. Maybe I got lucky, or the new movement is really better than the 6r35.
I loved this model, maybe in the future when the price get down. What I like at Seiko that the movement is cheap, you have parts to replace, unlike the swiss watches, that if you want service and replace some parts you can only do this in a autohrized service.
I have the sunburst blue version and am delighted with the way it wears on my 16cm wrist. I note that you have replaced the bracelet clasp, which only has one adjustment hole on the original. What clasp did you buy?
Proper dive watches have the date where it doesn’t interfere with the important things. Blancpain fifty fathoms comes to mind. So 4:30 for me all day long.
They missed the the bezel insert by adding dots beneath each number, which makes the overall look feel cluttered and detracts from the classic 62MAS aesthetic. The date window feels uninspired and outdated, almost like a dusty afterthought. However, the case details and proportions of the new Seiko SPB453 are spot on.
My only issue w all the seiko models is the odd straight end links/lugs. I guess I'm stuck to the traditional curved lugs/end links, and I can't unsee it. Idk 😢

I have a Seiko 5 Sports bought in March 2024 after a week It began to run 2 to 3 minutes faster,what is the solution for this or do I need to take it back to the shop. Please advise.
I tried one of these on yesterday and am very torn. It fit great. I love the design. I just can’t shake the feeling that the watch felt cheap. The bezel and bracelet were just not good. I’ve got a $200 San Martin that is better in every specification and it just feels way more solid, sturdy, and well built. I love the brand and look. I just don’t know if it’s a $1300 watch. I think closer to $500 would be fair. Anyone have similar thoughts?
Picked up a amzwatch's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
It still does have that gap but not as much as the gap in the 143. On the 143 I used to be able to see right through the gap but that's not the case here otherwise it would have really bothered me. It's maybe a touch more than on other watches with no play so it hasn't really been noticeable at all thankfully!
Hmm... I'm not a fan of how the end link integrates with the lugs. I think it looks better with those rubber straps than on the metal bracelet. It doesn't look right. I prefer the date window position on this new model than at the 3 o'clock position. Brings a nice balance to the dial.
From your analysis I prefer 453 more, however it's still not good enough for me to get one(I do love 62MAS design). I am still waiting for 1. Better movement: I am not confident with 6R unfortunately. 8L would be the only practical choice. 2. No date: I can accept 453's design, but no date remains my favorite 3. Better clasp: I don't ask for on-the-fly microadjustment. But at least more ergonomic and better look I am willing to pay 4k-ish so I believe it's possible.
yeah at 4k all these things should be required! Especially the clasp, the clasp is undoubtedly Seiko's weakest link so hopefully we see an upgrade very soon
You’ll never buy a seiko diver then because they’ve never ever been no-date 😅. I agree with you though, I’d prefer no date and at least a 6L movement with a better clasp and taper on the bracelet
I own the original reissue, the SPB053. I am definitely in the minority but I really dig the broad arrow hour hand, shiny lacquer bezel and overall proportions of the case (even though it is a big watch). The 143 always seemed off to my eye, the bezel being a bit too wide and flat. This new reference is a home run - the blue dial is on my distant radar!
Great comment. I am lucky and have the 053 and 143. They are both awesome watches. I put a dark blue rubber strap on the 053 and it looks amazing. I don’t have a favorite between the two.
@@speedmaster6781 Very cool! Sometimes I throw the 053 on a simple no taper, dark brown hand made leather strap, with no stitching. It really classes it up, for say, the winter time when that chunky rubber strap won’t fit under the sleeve!
I actually used to own the SPB053 way back in 2018! However I ended up selling it bc the chapter ring was a bit too misaligned and I ended up buying something else with the funds. It was a great watch for sure and like you I actually really liked the broad arrow hour hand, I had it on my SBBN031 Tuna and it just looked right there and on the SPB053. Felt right for the size of each watch. I was very very tempted by the blue dial 451 but this black 453 won out in the end. Would love to see one in person some pictures the dial looks super dark and it others it's much more blue
Glad to hear from a fellow owner! It really does work fantastically well on a NATO more so than any other Seiko I own I think! It also works wonderfully on rubber straps and basically all straps at this point lol
The bezel is just about the same level of black as for the dial I think the SPB453 is more matte than the SRPL13 whereas the SRPL13 shows the sun burst finish a bit more which in turn makes it less dark in some lights. But overall the dials are roughly the same level of black. I hope I answered your question!
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the amzwatch, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on MaMaCoo 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
I've recently began my obsession as a watch collector. And i must say- out of all the luxury brands I've been researching, for me the amzwatch's watches are the most intriguing.
I got no intresting in buying it as I am perfectly happy with my 38mm solar prospex, but glad Seiko is moving in the right direction with this remake of their last 62 remake.
I sold my 143 because I couldn’t bond with it emotionally overall. I also didn’t appreciate the sunburst dial as it made reading the time slightly more difficult due to the lack of contrast (for my eyes). Also hated the bracelet design
A tad expensive, but I do like it. if In person it were to impress, I might be inclined to take her home. Something tells me that wouldn't be the case. Seko is getting to be a bit too proud of themselves as evidenced by their pricing as of late. That's just my opinion, I do however love Seiko,
For me, the 143 is better. First, the 143 is already a small watch and the last thing I want is to see it smaller. Second, the gray sunburst dial and brushed bezel are much more attractive. Third, only two micro adjustment holes on the clasp is unacceptable for a sports watch. Finally, the date window is way too small. So ridiculous. Why not a no date version ?
Yeah the 143 will always be amongst the best watches from Seiko the gray dial is awesome I just wish it didnt have that matte layer on top of it otherwise I would have owned one for the past 4 years lol! Yeah having only two microadjust holes is awful, but all seiko clasps with that stupid divers extension are terrible and I swap them out so no difference to me😄

Yeah the SJE093 is awesome and was super tempting but I agree with all your points I wish it wasn't limited and I wish it came on a bracelet as well (with a good clasp) then it would have been a bit more justified
Outstanding! I am sure your 143 looks all the much better for being so well-used. I own the old Tudor Heritage Ranger and, similarly, it carries many battle scars which it attained in my work in the outdoors. It has so much character as a tool watch. 😊

When it comes to fine imitation watches, amzwatch delivers. I've bought from them several times, and I've never been let down.
I like this update, and wish Seiko would follow other brands such as Rolex in terms of having a smaller (core) catalogue of models that they consistently iterate upon and improve. We don’t need 15 different Willards. Do one, in a few colours, and try to make it better every 5 years.
The problem with Seiko is they are competing with themselves. They don’t have an incentive to make their watches better. How long can they continue to use a 6R movement when other brands are using more accurate movements or even no on the fly adjustments on the bracelet. I’m a Seiko fan boy but I feel like I ordered a cheeseburger and they forgot the cheese.
Great vid once again. I was torn between this one in blue and the mm200 gmt. I went for the GMT but this one is still in my mind. It wears like a dream. In that aspect its perfection. I see a brother for the gmt in the future.

I think 143 better looking wish could have 143 dial with this case and bracelet and a clasp with 3 micro adjusts a middle ground between the old and new.

Thank you for your review. Love the watch with the black dial. I'll most likely pull the trigger on this as it looks like a great daily wear, especially with the scratch resistant coating. That said, a little love from Seiko with a signed crown would have been nice.

I have the spb 455 special edition and I like it a lot. The loose end link of the spb 143 has been fixed and the new bracelet wears better.
We are spoilt for choices because the older spb and its other models are now more available, for those who prefer them.
The 6r55 performed well in the entire week I was wearing the watch. Maybe I got lucky, or the new movement is really better than the 6r35.

I loved this model, maybe in the future when the price get down. What I like at Seiko that the movement is cheap, you have parts to replace, unlike the swiss watches, that if you want service and replace some parts you can only do this in a autohrized service.
I really like this model. The scuba blue would be my choice however.
This would be everything if they made it a gmt in this exact case would be fine if it got a tad thicker for the movement.

Proper dive watches have the date where it doesn’t interfere with the important things. Blancpain fifty fathoms comes to mind. So 4:30 for me all day long.
They missed the the bezel insert by adding dots beneath each number, which makes the overall look feel cluttered and detracts from the classic 62MAS aesthetic. The date window feels uninspired and outdated, almost like a dusty afterthought. However, the case details and proportions of the new Seiko SPB453 are spot on.

My only issue w all the seiko models is the odd straight end links/lugs. I guess I'm stuck to the traditional curved lugs/end links, and I can't unsee it. Idk 😢

Glad you enjoyed the video! The SPB147 is a cool watch no doubt especially in person but yeah this new version has the diashield coating as well, as far as I know all the $1000+ Prospex divers have the coating which is a nice touch
I have a Seiko 5 Sports bought in March 2024 after a week It began to run 2 to 3 minutes faster,what is the solution for this or do I need to take it back to the shop. Please advise.
I tried one of these on yesterday and am very torn. It fit great. I love the design. I just can’t shake the feeling that the watch felt cheap. The bezel and bracelet were just not good. I’ve got a $200 San Martin that is better in every specification and it just feels way more solid, sturdy, and well built. I love the brand and look. I just don’t know if it’s a $1300 watch. I think closer to $500 would be fair. Anyone have similar thoughts?

yeah the 3 days is unnecessary but thankfully its not too visible at least to me!

Picked up a amzwatch's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
9:49 that doesn't lool like the clasp of the original bracelet. The Seiko clasp has only 2 micro-adjustment holes.
Does the new bracelet also have some play between the lugs like its a hair too small? This bothers me on my 143...
It still does have that gap but not as much as the gap in the 143. On the 143 I used to be able to see right through the gap but that's not the case here otherwise it would have really bothered me. It's maybe a touch more than on other watches with no play so it hasn't really been noticeable at all thankfully!

Hmm... I'm not a fan of how the end link integrates with the lugs. I think it looks better with those rubber straps than on the metal bracelet. It doesn't look right. I prefer the date window position on this new model than at the 3 o'clock position. Brings a nice balance to the dial.
From your analysis I prefer 453 more, however it's still not good enough for me to get one(I do love 62MAS design).
I am still waiting for
1. Better movement: I am not confident with 6R unfortunately. 8L would be the only practical choice.
2. No date: I can accept 453's design, but no date remains my favorite
3. Better clasp: I don't ask for on-the-fly microadjustment. But at least more ergonomic and better look

yeah at 4k all these things should be required! Especially the clasp, the clasp is undoubtedly Seiko's weakest link so hopefully we see an upgrade very soon
You’ll never buy a seiko diver then because they’ve never ever been no-date 😅. I agree with you though, I’d prefer no date and at least a 6L movement with a better clasp and taper on the bracelet

I own the original reissue, the SPB053. I am definitely in the minority but I really dig the broad arrow hour hand, shiny lacquer bezel and overall proportions of the case (even though it is a big watch). The 143 always seemed off to my eye, the bezel being a bit too wide and flat. This new reference is a home run - the blue dial is on my distant radar!
Great comment. I am lucky and have the 053 and 143. They are both awesome watches. I put a dark blue rubber strap on the 053 and it looks amazing. I don’t have a favorite between the two.
@@speedmaster6781 Very cool! Sometimes I throw the 053 on a simple no taper, dark brown hand made leather strap, with no stitching. It really classes it up, for say, the winter time when that chunky rubber strap won’t fit under the sleeve!
I actually used to own the SPB053 way back in 2018! However I ended up selling it bc the chapter ring was a bit too misaligned and I ended up buying something else with the funds. It was a great watch for sure and like you I actually really liked the broad arrow hour hand, I had it on my SBBN031 Tuna and it just looked right there and on the SPB053. Felt right for the size of each watch.
I was very very tempted by the blue dial 451 but this black 453 won out in the end. Would love to see one in person some pictures the dial looks super dark and it others it's much more blue

Glad to hear from a fellow owner! It really does work fantastically well on a NATO more so than any other Seiko I own I think! It also works wonderfully on rubber straps and basically all straps at this point lol

Is the black finish of the spb 453 'darker' than the SRPL13?
The bezel is just about the same level of black as for the dial I think the SPB453 is more matte than the SRPL13 whereas the SRPL13 shows the sun burst finish a bit more which in turn makes it less dark in some lights. But overall the dials are roughly the same level of black. I hope I answered your question!

Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the amzwatch, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on MaMaCoo 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.

I've recently began my obsession as a watch collector. And i must say- out of all the luxury brands I've been researching, for me the amzwatch's watches are the most intriguing.
I got no intresting in buying it as I am perfectly happy with my 38mm solar prospex, but glad Seiko is moving in the right direction with this remake of their last 62 remake.
I sold my 143 because I couldn’t bond with it emotionally overall. I also didn’t appreciate the sunburst dial as it made reading the time slightly more difficult due to the lack of contrast (for my eyes). Also hated the bracelet design
A tad expensive, but I do like it. if In person it were to impress, I might be inclined to take her home. Something tells me that wouldn't be the case. Seko is getting to be a bit too proud of themselves as evidenced by their pricing as of late. That's just my opinion, I do however love Seiko,

For me, the 143 is better. First, the 143 is already a small watch and the last thing I want is to see it smaller. Second, the gray sunburst dial and brushed bezel are much more attractive. Third, only two micro adjustment holes on the clasp is unacceptable for a sports watch. Finally, the date window is way too small. So ridiculous. Why not a no date version ?
Yeah the 143 will always be amongst the best watches from Seiko the gray dial is awesome I just wish it didnt have that matte layer on top of it otherwise I would have owned one for the past 4 years lol! Yeah having only two microadjust holes is awful, but all seiko clasps with that stupid divers extension are terrible and I swap them out so no difference to me😄
Yeah I agreed! I have spb143 and there's no complain about it. Improvising is not necessary. Imo
