Great rant! It's crucial not to get too caught up in the tools. While mastering the technical aspects is important, developing your artistic taste is what really sets your work apart.

So so refreshing hearing you talk about not getting too caught up in color management. I think you did a fantastic job, and seeing your chaotic workflow was really encouraging. Thank you!

100% was gonnacomment the same thing that you got a small efficient pipeline ! which is enough ! most people show up with huge pipeline which they dont even know what they re doing lol great job

Great video, thanka for sharing. Sometimes editing in rec 709 feels wasy easier and faster than working in davinci wide gamut/intermediate.

I'm sorry if you explained it and I missed it, what is the “bump up” node?
And thank you for honest sharing

    Totally agree.
Good to hear i'm not the only one that occassionally likes to 'jazz' the grade. It can be quite liberating at time.
Although, it has to be said that there is still alot to be said for following specific diciplines. I guess it's all down to having the confidence to know which one to choose and when!
Thanks for this. Enjoyed it alot.

Very honest explanation and very honest to show your timeline without wanting to make it look 'cool' by extreme node trees. I totally get what you are saying and fully agree. It's all about taste and being creative getting a look that stands out or just suits the project. A lot of colorist these days get lost in the technical aspects. What I do notice is that a lot of people, especially on raw files don't set their basic balance correctly which is like mixing mp3 files and wanting to make it sound like a WAV file. You can't turn in what's not there. Thanks for posting and keep up the good work.

This really good stuff. I apreciate seeing how efficiently you're using the tools. for instance on your hero shot, using that small power window on the eyes was so effective. Once again great job.

Great video! Always love seeing other colorists work! In particular I like from the Rant till the end. That's all so true. As a colorist I see so many beginners think workflow, and gear make the colorist. Taste and the look are always the most important thing. Also, they think that having a super complicated node tree with 30 nodes is what makes a good grade. Sometimes 2 nodes with a few tweaks is all that's needed. (this is my rant, haha) Anyway, great stuff!

Such an amazing piece of art. Feels impossible to pick a favorite shot because there are so many gorgeous ones, but the three that stick out to me most are 1)the wide shot of the sun setting over the beach, 2) the view of the wave through the window, and 3) the mother drawing with her son in the woods. Just an amazing edit and pacing with the music. Instant follow for more inspiration…
