  • Meet the new CJC Off Road Power Wagon! While we’re known for our diesel builds, we figured it was time to see what the Hemi hype is all about. This truck is starting stock, but it won’t stay that way for long!

    I'm from Saskatchewan, Canada. a lot of off road country here. I bought a New 2021 olive green pearl Ram Power Wagon with Ram boxes, This is the nicest truck i ever owned and drove, exceptional capability, just driving in 4x4 is enough to get you out of situations. Exceptional! outstanding truck! thanks for your video.

    MPG comes up as it breaks in, you'll notice the biggest different around 7000-10000 miles. i have a 19 and love it, for how heavy this truck is it's really not that bad on gas. i'm seeing 12-14 (some times 15+ on flat highway driving) and my f150 i traded in only saw 14-15 anyway. can't wait to see what you do to it! first thing i did was delete the muffler. then rock sliders, and 35s. sits perfectly how i like it.

    Yes, about time THE HEMI got some spotlight. I have been looking for Hemi power content online and there is very few. The first mod will have to be true dual exhaust (no Y pipe)and some cold air intake.

    I put an electric exhaust cutout on my ‘19. I would highly recommend it, as it sounds better than full exhaust systems, and goes back to stock sound with the push of a switch. I’ll be super excited to see how awesome it is after your mods. As far as I can tell nobody really does engine builds and superchargers on these ( probably due to cost) but it’d be awesome if you guys did the MMX drop in pistons/rods and a blower setup! That would really easy to surpass the TRX Hp/Tq figures.

      Haha...Spoken like a guy that for sure hasn’t owned many full size rigs, gas or diesel. Dang sure not a current day diesel. like I said rad truck if you don’t tow. Towing even a small amount like 10k (yes 10k is a small amount in today’s truck world) with a PowerWagon=equals slow AF up any grade and nets you around total dog sh!t for mpg’s. The Power Wagon is 100% the full size off road king, off the lot no comparison. So again like I said rad truck if you want to mostly off-road and occasional pull your pop up tent trailer, but apples to apples it is not. Having owned both a PW and to many to count full size diesels, and now a 19 Ram 2500 with full Carli kit from CJC, I speak not from ignorance but from my own experience with both rigs. I tow all day long with my 6.4l and 3.73 gears. Two trucks with roughly 5k to 8k# trailers...not long distances...and they do just fine. I also own an older 3500 with a 5.9 Cummins and 4.10 gears. Sure it tows better, but the question is one of value and whether the added 8 to $10k is worth the difference and fuel savings.
      This PW comes with stock 4.10 gears, so the towing should actually be better than my trucks with the 3.73s.

    Here's the solution I'm looking for, and I'm sure a lot of others as well. I'm using this as my camp truck, and have maxed out the load capacity. 1400ish pounds. Rear end has sagged 2.5 inches, and the sway at 75mph is bad. I want to get my ride height back up, and have all my factory articulation without needing airbags.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  4 года назад

      It's actually a huge issue with these trucks. Ram 2500s and Power Wagons both have very low payload capability, and the coil rear suspension doesn't lend itself well to an easy solution. Even if there was some solution with the springs, that doesn't address the rating of the axles or the fact that the camper exceeds the legal GVWR of the truck. One work around that some of our customers have tried is using the Ram 2500 Mega Cab Cummins rear coils instead of the Power Wagon coils since they have a higher spring rate. That said, you never want to exceed the 8,565 pound GVWR stated on the door sticker.

      @@CJCOffRoad Thanks for the reply. When I'm loaded up with water for a week out exploring, I'm right at the limit for payload, so I'm making sure I'm good there. Still want to get my ride height/articulation back though.

    I use my 2010 PW everyday on my ranch. I would like to see some rifle / shotgun overhead rack or other options. I would also be interested in ideas on how to install communication radios and antenna. I used roof mounts and it was a pain removing headliner etc. thank you

      The GJ motorsports third brake light replacement is a great option. It has an nmo mount integrated as well as baja designs lights. I was able to mount my Ham radio without punching a hole through the roof. Much easier install. CJC offroad installed mine. Amazing work

    OK so I am REALLY happy to find this video I am getting a power wagon. So, I am SUPER interested in where you take this build. I'd like to see you get this closer to an AEV prospector XL. Obviously , you won't be able to get 41s on this truck, but something close to that would be cool.

    • @CJCOffRoad

      We appreciate the support! 37s are about as big as you can go on these trucks without doing fiberglass fenders and firewall modification while still maintaining good suspension. In our personal experience though the Hemi trucks don't do well with larger tires. They simply lack the torque, and it really takes away from the driving experience to do anything over a 37 on them. Lots of people do it, but we personally like 37s or smaller on them!

    Here's the deal, with gas at $2.50/gal and you pay a $10,000 upcharge for the diesel engine - that buys you effectively free fuel for your gas truck for 48,000 miles. I don't keep my trucks for 50,000 miles so I would never get my money back on a Diesel. That means you have to drive your diesel truck about 150,000 miles to even up with the gas engine with fuel savings to offset the $10,000 upcharge for the Diesel. The numbers just don't add up. If you are not towing - go gas.

    I just bought a new 75th Anniversary PW. Do you think 37s will fit on the factory bead-lock ready rims that come on the 75th Anniversary or should I buy aftermarket rims for the BFG All-Terrain 37x12.5x17 tires?

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  3 года назад +1

      Since those wheels are +45 offset they won't work well. To fit 37s on a Ram truck we recommend a +18 to +27 offset wheel that is no wider than 9,” as well as some mild trimming of the plastic fender liner and maybe pinch weld depending on the tire. You could use spacers to make up that difference, but you would have to cut the wheel studs to make them work!

    Conservatively driving I can easily get mid 14s for mpg. At school which is at a higher elevation it goes down a good bit. That being said the area has allot of driving up and down which hurts mpg regardless of elevation

    I'm interested in the suspension upgrades for the 37s and thoughts on why not 40s. Right now I'm leaning towards the AEV route so I can have that option to do 40s, but that's only becuase I haven't seen anything in-depth about PW suspensions and I know you guys will cover it all. Also, sometimes there's confusion with what the numbers a lift says it will do vs. what it actually does when it comes to the PW. I'm also interested in a tuner where there could be an ECO mode for better hwy mpgs and off road mode. I see tuners for diesels a lot, but not for PW. Since mine is a DD and the majority of my ride is hwy miles, I'd like to know if there is an option. There are manual switch bypasses for the lockers on the older models. I'm wondering if they will make them and sway bar disconnect bypasses for the 19+ PW. I think the PW is such an underrated off road truck. The majority of the masses see them but don't know that it's essentially a 2500, fully loaded Rubicon with it's off road capabilities, steel bumpers, but even Jeeps don't come with a winch from the factory so I'm glad you're doing these videos.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  3 года назад

      Axle hop on these Power Wagons is horrible due to the poor damping in the factory shocks, and rear suspension design. With a decent set of shocks like this system has, that hop is pretty much eliminated. Running a lower tire pressure also helps dramatically.

    Build this with Carli suspension, AEV’s fenders, on 40’s. With some 5.13’s and maybe a supercharger.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  4 года назад

      Sadly 40s just aren’t possible on these trucks without major suspension and functionality sacrifices. If you want to use a Ram off road with high performance suspension, 37s is kinda the limit.

    • @cbchevy74
      @cbchevy74 4 года назад

      CJC Off Road can you run the AEV suspension and AEV fender flares to clear 40’s? Seems that would work.
      You guys have the pull with Carli why not see if they can build a shock upgrade for the AEV suspension.....

      I wanted to order from Ram in March of this year. I did the build up online and talked to 3 different Dealerships in Northern California to Order it for me!! All 3 gave me the run around and wanted me to come in and buy something off the lot. They all jerked me around for 3 weeks or better and one wouldn't even call me back! I called Dave Smith in Idaho after watching the green truck purchase here, and had my deposit down 10 mins into my call!! The dealerships in California are just horrible! I had a Computer glitch with my new Hemi with 2000 mile on it and they didnt cover it under warrantee. They charged me $400 bucks to re flash the cpu because I put 35" tires on it and a Carli 2.5 suspension!!!
