    I own a 2020 Power Wagon identical to the one in the video and I just love it. It rides great. Pulls my camper no sweat and the fold down platform that pulls out when you stow away the rear seats is perfect for my dogs. Just a really great truck.

    Note, that the axle height difference is due to different-sized tires. Also, I love Ram pick-ups, but they are now way too expensive to purchase!

    I know that you know this, but you kept saying it has a “body lift”, yet the power wagon HAS a proper lift, NOT a body lift. A body lift is simply adding spacers on top of the frame to raise the body above the frame, and yes, it doesn’t add any clearance anywhere except the wheel well.
    A proper lift putting bigger springs and changing out the track bars and shocks is what gains articulation and clearance everywhere, except in the pumpkin height which is only affected by tire size. Bigger wheels and tires are just that, you get more height obviously as you add diameter.

    I have a 2016 powerwagon and have had several 2500 rams, i love the ride of the powerwagon, my 2004 deisel rode like a tank, very rough, but could tow just about anything. I dont tow much anymore so would choose the powerwagon.

  • @Moparornocar74
    @Moparornocar74 3 года назад +19

    It's not a body lift, it's a suspension lift. A body lift uses spacers between the frame and the body lifting only the body, this is a suspension lift using taller springs lifting the frame and all the bits that are attached to it. The Power Wagon should come with bigger tires, 35" at least, I know 37" fits without issue. Anyway, STOP CALLING IT A BODY LIFT

    If you go on rams configurator and take a tradesman crew cab 6'4 bed 4x4 truck with no other options, you can see that the cummins and the powerwagon package are almost the same price, the cummins is about 1k more actually.
    The payload is actually so low on the PW as is, and the cummins weighs 700 more than the 6.4 hemi that even if they had the room you'd be left with about 400lbs of payload on a diesel PW which just wouldn't work.

    The wheel well gaps don't dictate the largest tire size you can run on these rigs. The bump stops limiting up travel are in the same place on both of these trucks, downward travel is a different story. So what that means is, matter what size tire you are running, the axle will only go up so. I guarantee you can clear 37s on the Diesel with a stock suspension and a +18mm to +27mm offset rim. I'm clearing 37s on my 2019 Power Wagon with a factory suspension. This will require minor pinch weld trim and fender liner trim but in terms of up travel, both rigs have bump stops limiting the axle travel in the same place relative to the top of the fender well.

    • @CoryTheCanadian
      @CoryTheCanadian 2 года назад

      I just put 37’s on my 2020 power wagon , completely stock. I only rub on the sway bar and radius arms at full lock, didn’t have to trim anything due to staying with stock wheels also.

    You should specify the weight difference. The Cummings option weights more that a Miata over the PW. Really is a big difference off-road.

  • @marvinheadrick3511
    @marvinheadrick3511 3 года назад +1

    The only reason for putting in a diesel would be for more towing, but the limiting factor for the PW is the suspension, not the powertrain. The 6.4 in the PW can haul or tow well beyond the stated capacities just as the normal 2500 with a hemi does. Therefore it’s easy to see why it not offered in the PW. Plus the weight would hinder the off-road performance.

    • @SeguroOffroad
      @SeguroOffroad 2 года назад +1

      The weight already hinders the truck. Anything heavier would limit it even more.

    The original PW wheels you pictured look tough, and would like to use ones like them on mine with descent tires for better grip and to get that pumpkin higher off the ground. The lockers and the extra flex kept the low end power planted and gave us confidence to try more challenging Jeep trails all around Ouray, CO last year. Only wish it had a tighter turn in with the lockers on 4 low.

  • @shawnriddle3018
    @shawnriddle3018 3 года назад

    More side wall on the tire is great for off road not handling or towing on road. More sway. Same for more lift. Steal rims haul more weight than aluminum rims. Off road tires are normally softer compound lower load rating. Lower air pressure. Some owners are adding air bags on their power wagons to gain payload for in bed campers or 5th wheel camper. 35's fit on a stock power wagon. I tow a 10,000lbs toy hauler with my 15 AEV power wagon. It tows great on road and even better off road in soft dune and beach sand with the lockers. The main computer mapping on a power wagon are differant than a Big Horn. Diesel engines weigh twice what a gas engine weighs. Power wagon has more power to weight. Diesel engines are low rpm high torque. Gas is high rpm normally more horsepower and a broader torque and power range Gas trucks have more payload than diesel. You may run out of payload not reaching your top trailer weight. ruclips.net/video/mT5qIpjID5Y/видео.html ruclips.net/video/sKwCV6_5OiA/видео.html

      @@zelenizub2036 My wife has a 2018 Ram 2500 4wd 6.7L like Steve's Dad's truck. But I would buy in a heartbeat the Pwerwagon with the gen 3 Ecodiesel. I currently have a 2016 Ram 1500 4wd 3.92 ratio gen 2 Ecodiesel.
      With a Flowmaster 50 series HD muffler and a Bank's silencer delete tube. The off throttle response is really good. I don't do burn outs. But I get very good acceleration on a 12% grade freeway onramp @4,000ft of elevation. With 33" tires, the fuel economy is better than my 2020 Dodge Durango GT AWD by 5 mpg @ 70mph.
      And with the 4.10 ratio of the Powerwagon. 35" or 37" tires would still have reasonably good acceleration. And if I need to haul something really heavy. I just go rent a Freightliner or Kenworth of the appropriate size.

    1 year ago I would have preferred the Power Wagon, but a 2500 Diesel would be my choice. Why? Diesel, towing power. But, let me ask you this. What if the Power Wagon had a Diesel option and you put Air Bags in the back to increase the Tow Capacity?

    • @panthermartin7784
      @panthermartin7784 3 года назад

      CAVOK, air bags donot increase tow capacity, they increase stability only, remember in theory if you are specked to tow 12k lets say air bags donot allow u to exceed 12k as the weight of your load is still going onto your axle bearings.

      @@panthermartin7784 ok good to know. I know, from a legal perspective it wouldn't change the numbers.
      Also, both those trucks are 2500's. The difference is the suspension. Obviously, the Power Wagon is much softer. So, wouldnt stiffening the suspension increase the weight/tow capacity, unofficially? I mean, I would think the bearings would be the same in each truck, no?

      The tick comes from the typical hemi motor, the lifter issue is completely different item, mostly common on 5.7s when people skip service intervals. The 6.4 isn't as common. The real end all be all. Hemi motors make a special noise that scared most GM & Ford guys. The cam failure is a user created issue.
