I'm Irish and I've been to Istanbul twice. Incredible food and incredible hospitality. Turkey is an awesome country, incredibly underrated destination for Europeans since many don't consider it "European" but to me, Turkey is the perfect blend of Europe and the Middle East
Turkey is quite different from one end to the other. Istanbul and the European part is quite different from the much bigger part in Asia. And I do agree about it being underrated as a tourist destination. The bad thing about them is that fuскеr Erdogan. Set to turn Turkey back into a Islamic state, basically he wants the Ottoman empire back. Being from Bulgaria and having been there many times I can see how they are moving backwards in a direction that is frankly scary, specially having mostly dismantled our military to be "NATO compatible" and as part of this having cut up all of the weapons that could put actual hurt on Turkey, mostly by demand from Them and the Greek, our NATO allies that are next door and both have and always had territorial claims on our lands and a sizeable minority that we didn't genocide unlike what happened with Bulgarians left inside the borders of Turkey and Greece. So go to Turkey sooner than later because they turn in a place where you don't want to be but still have a way to go. If you are a travel hipster, go to Turkeys Black sea coast, it's not really developed so that you will have peace and quiet on the cheap, and the people are great but that's true for most of Turkey.
I interacted with the Turkish military in Iraq and Astan. Great guys and people dont realize what good equipment they make. Good guys and no joke as soldiers. The North Koreans were terrified of them in the War.
My father served for years as a Turkish Air Force officer at the NATO Turkey headquarters, working alongside international personnel. Based on this background and my knowledge of history, I want to provide a brief and concise summary of some information. The establishment of the Turkish Armed Forces as a regular army dates back to 209 BC, attributed to Mete Han, a Turkish state ruler and commander. This date symbolically appears within the Turkish Land Forces and on their uniform insignia. The Göktürk state, founded by the nomadic tribes of Turks, as well as the Asian Huns, European Huns, Uighur state, Ghaznavid state, and the Seljuk state, are some of the prominent Turkish states that laid the historical military and cultural foundations for the Ottoman Empire, which most people are familiar with. While other Turkish states were established in the same geographies, they were destroyed by the aforementioned states and came under their rule. Of course, when discussing modern times, Gazi Marshal Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is regarded with love and respect as the eternal commander-in-chief of the Turkish army. His leadership in the Middle East, North Africa, Balkans, which were Ottoman lands, during the rebellions and wars of the late Ottoman period, as well as the imperialist actions of the British, French, Italians, Greeks, and even the Americans before, during, and after World War I, is a historical fact. He fought against the occupations by England, France, Armenia, Greece, and others, and after his military victories, he completed the political unity, economic stability, and cultural and social stability of a brand-new country within 15 years. Thus, the modern Turkish army continues to carry forward its military knowledge, experience, and culture derived from these historical periods, and it has successfully repelled all kinds of manipulations and interventions against Atatürk's doctrine. This determination and resilience are rooted in the historical context and doctrine that you honorably acknowledge. Respectfully.
Dude, basically Turkey has amazing foods! I live in Germany and can confirm that we love Turkish foods to an extent that we forgot German foods exist..very affordable🥰😋
You've really had an incredible food tour! For people coming to Turkey and wanting to try these dishes, I have written down the names of all the foods you ate in this video. 1:03 - Simit 2:28 - Menemen with Sucuk and Kaşar (Kashar) Cheese (not mozerella) 2:30 - Ezine Cheese (not feta cheese) and Kaşar Cheese 2:38 - Honey and Kaymak (not clotted cream) 2:41 - Pişi (Pishi) with Pastirma and Kaşar Cheese 5:23 - Midye Tava (Fried Mussels) 5:31 - That sauce called “tarator” 6:25 - Midye Dolma (Stuffed Mussels) 10:35 - Etli Ekmek (not Turkish Pizza) 12:08 - Tandır Kebap 16:25 - Döner Kebap 17:21 - Ayran 18:20 - Cag Kebap 22:06 - Fistikli Kebap (kebap with pictachio) normally you wouldn't have one with pine nuts and cheese. This must be the restaurant's own take on it. 23:54 - The side dishes are “Mezes” not dips. You normally don’t dip your kebap into them. The mezes available there: Haydari, Acili Ezme, Patlican Salatasi, Muhammara, Humus 29:34 - Çiğ Köfte (raw meatball) 32:20 - Uykuluk (Thymus) 32:32 - Koç Yumurtasi (ram testicles) 34:11 - Raki 37:07 - Kokoreç (kokorech) 38:27 - Şalgam 43:29 - Mumbar 44:26 - Şırdan (Shirdan) 45:10 - Kelle (lamb heads) 48:42 - Büryan Kebap 49:52 - Perde Pilavi (curtained rice) 52:30 - Künefe 1:06:55 - Baklava (Carrot Slice Shape) It's natural to name an unfamiliar dish by its ingredients or compare it to another dish that seems similar, but it's also somewhat unfair. Referring to Ayran as "Yogurt Juice," Etli Ekmek as "Turkish Pizza," or Sucuk as "Spicy Sausage" is akin to calling Gelato "Italian Ice Cream," Sushi "Raw Fish Rolls," or Paella "Seafood Rice" - it seems to oversimplify their uniqueness. This might stem from the fact that despite having such wonderful dishes in Turkish cuisine, we haven't been very successful in promoting them globally. So perhaps, it's partly our fault.
I went to Istanbul last year for 2 weeks with my wife. We have tried almost all the food here in the video and it was very delicious, but we gained 5 kgs from that lol. If we didn't walk a lot we would have gained 10 instead of 5 kgs. That eggplant yogurt was phenomenal with meat. Apart from great meat food they have some amazing deserts too. Especially baklava (the one you tried looks fantastic and delicious) and some apple desert, but can't remember the name of that one. Also, their coffee and tea are very good. Starbucks is trash compared to the quality of their coffee. Turkish people are very friendly and they are so proud of their food.
Turkish people appreciate when tourists visit their country and show interest in their food and culture. They enjoy sharing their dishes. They love to feed other people, this is considered a sign of respect. :)
I went to Istanbul in 2010 for work and they were very hospitable and they even shut down a restaurant to give us a special dinner. That food was awesome, we had different platters of different meats and the best was steak tartar and kabob wraps with a long pepper for lunch.
Turkey is such a wonderful country. A very ancient part of the world. You can feel it just walking around there. From the Hittite Empire to the Mycenaean Greeks, the Roman Empire, the Ottomans all the way through modern day Turkey. Wonderfully hospitable people. Amazing food. Beautiful cities and landscapes.
I've been to many countries around the globe but I should say there's no better food than Turkish one.It looks like food from a different world. Best food I've ever tasted.
However, Turkey ranks #7 in the list of the best food cuisines in the world. This is not fair at all and does not reflect the truth. Because Turkish cuisine is the number 1 in the world. 🇹🇷
FYI Istanbul is not capital of Türkiye! It is the biggest city, but capital of Türkiye is Ankara! It is located more towards the center of the country, so more east and slightly more south. Istanbul is often mistakenly thought of as Türkiye's capital due to its popularity and size.
@@savascavusoglu4654 Don't be upset either. I am in South Korea and I just ate 4 slices of bread with 2 slices of cheddar cheese. We are all struggling.
I was in Turkey just last month and already missing the place. The culture and food were unique and something to behold. Will be back there again next year!
I spent a month in Istanbul during 2001 and I loved all the food. Became addicted to chi kofte ( Raw beef with lettuce dish ) but I didn’t know it was raw meat. When I later visited southern Turkey, olu deniz, I went all week trying to find that chi kofte. Finally found a chef that would make it for me and he wondered how I knew of it as it’s not a tourist dish… I told him of my stay in Istanbul, years before. And he proudly went off to make it for me. Then while eating it with me, I learnt it was raw. Didn’t put me off at all. Awesome stuff.
Çiğköfte means raw meatball in Turkish lol. But it's so hard to find a real çiğköfte nowadays cus it's unhealthy to store it, you need to make it fresh. Every city has 1 or 2 places using meat and preparing fresh but çiğköfte became a popular vegan dish without meat :(
As a Turkish born and raised in Istanbul, I vouch for this video. There is nothing left that you haven't tasted, I have never seen such a perfect promotion. I will follow you, and from now on, before travel to a country, I will look at your page and check if there is a promotional video about that country. Thank you.

The Ottoman Empire’s influence on food during their rule over vast lands has to be top 3 gastronomically influential empires of all time. Much love Sonny, keep up the amazing work you do of you educating many of us. Respect.
I love everything about this channel. I have an eating disorder, and watching Sonny eat exotic foods while I eat my meals has really helped me. Sounds crazy, but it feels like commiserating with a friend while going through something that's a personal struggle. I strangely feel like I'm not going through it alone, and it's inspiring. I also love how HE'S always SO polite, even to people who might not understand that he is being polite. I really respect a person who does their best to show respect even if someone doesn't always understand what was meant/said. This channel has saved me in ways I can't even describe to someone who isn't going through something similar, and I'm SO grateful for your content.

@30:10, something might have been lost in translation during the filming there. Cigkofte is traditionally made "with" meat just as you watched, but within the last 15-20 years, it mostly got replaced with the version without the meat because of government regulations not allowing sale of raw meat/raw meat products for consumption. and the decreased cost due to excluding meat made the vegetarian version much more widespread than the original. Obviously, traditionally it is a much difficult dish to prepare, since they don't use a meat mixer, and do it all by hand instead. And I was surprised that they didn't show or even mention how to check if it is the right consistency, which is basically by tossing and making it stick to the ceiling )).
In Lebanon they have a very traditional dish called "Kibbeh Nayyeh" you can find his videos to Lebanon showing him eating that dish. Some people add a bit of fine Bulgur ( he kept calling it Berber in this video here! LOL ) and some people just the meat and some spices. It's like a raw meat tartar. Quite delicious. And another dish I am familiar with is "Mercimek Koftesi" lentil kofte, for the vegetarians and is very good as well. And that huge amount of red chili flakes (pul biber or Aleppo pepper) to me it looks like Sumac and not chili! Otherwise that kofte would be VERY HOT !
I congratulate you for the respect and love you have shown to our food culture and to us. We watched the video you prepared with pleasure. We look forward to the time when we will see you again in Turkey. Thank you :))
I am so glad that you could taste most of the real Turkish food, not the advertised garbage on all other channels. This video is excellent and also very educative for tourists.

Turkey is definitely one of the best countries in the world when it comes to consistently good and also cheap food! It doesn't matter in which city or part of Turkey you're in, you'll always find a shop that serves incredible food..
I’ve wanted to visit Turkey forever! It’s at the top of my list for travel and all my American friends are like “wait why?” And I’m like, because Turkish culture and cuisine is amazing!
Thanks you for showing the greatest of Turkish cuisine to the world! I truly enjoyed watching this video thinking of each dish and start planning to visit my country asap. It is not only the food but also hospitality of people, all the chefs we see it here.
Gosh this food looks sooo good! I've spent the past day binging these documentaries and I truly wish I had even an inkling of culture that the people and places Sonny visits does. Its really a blessing that I can live in Southern US and still learn how those huge kebabs are made! Food truly is a labor of love that I dont get to experience often with the prevalence of fast (frozen) food where I live.

I got EXTREMELY respect to Turkish people. They are undoubtedly the best behaved people around the world, the nicest, kindest and most considerate people in this world. I watch most famous Youtuvers from different cultures and who speak different languages from French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian and have followed them around the world and seen how rude people are in India, USA, China, South Korea, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, etc. I am from Mexico living in the USA. I always thought Mexicans were the nicest people but, I was mistaken. Even mexicans are rude compared to Turkish people. The worst people are Indians, French and the German. But, man, Turkey is in a whole another level. They are super extremely nice, kinda, professional, very welcoming and extremely friendly. I am so jealous of how kind and sweet they are. MY respect and admiration to all of them.
As a Turkish person I think the same about Mexican food. I'd like to visit Mexico and try every traditional food with pleasure. Your food and culture always had a special place in my heart ❤️
The old Turkic language and the Mayan language has over 400 words that are common and sound exactly the same, the original religion of the Turkic people is Tengrism, which is the same ideology of South American religions, so you will definitely see some similarities in the way food is prepared 👍
@@btorun tacos al pastor we got from Middle East when people from there migrated to Mexico. We use the same method as middle Eastern cook shwarma. Instead of lamb or whatever we use other types of meat with a paste made out of spices in Mexico. They’re delicious. Look it up!

Food and drink in Turkey is either healthy or delicious. Since we usually eat a lot, we want to balance it with healthy drinks. That's why our drinks are generally probiotic. Ayran, turnip juice, pickles, pickle juice, boza, kefir etc. Even if they taste bad, salty or sour, they are healthy in the long run and once you get used to them, you will prefer them instead of fizzy drinks. I am a fan of all your videos. Turkish people love cheerful, witty, outgoing people like you, and they loved you too.
Travelled to Turkey many times, never as a tourist. The real Turkish food is really healthy. Once you’ve experienced home made Turkish food you’ll never forget it. Eating on the street or in a restaurant will never relay the outstanding recipes that exist. Home cooking is soooo much better.
Very few of those dishes are really Turkish. They are foods of different ethnic groups- Armenian, Greek, Persian, Balkan, Arab etc. There really isn't much in Turkey that we can really call 'Turkish'
Wow, I was blown away with this video. I have watched many Istanbul food safari videos but this is thus far the best gastronomical journey I have seen. Even as a Turk, I have encountered dishes I never knew existed. You have saved me many days and hours of research, and I will endeavor to dine in at almost every vendor you have depicted in this video on my next visit. And that's the beauty of Istanbul. Some of these dishes are famous from different towns in Turkiye and it saves you from actually physically travelling to those other cities. I like your twist of humor as well. 10 out of 10 for your effort.

You did not mention the prices so i did you the favor of finding the restaurants in the video and doing conversion of the price of the dishes you ordered and MAN, it's crazy cheap and loaded with protein ! I need to go to Turkey ASAP !

2:28 - Menemen with Sucuk and Kaşar (Kashar) Cheese (not mozerella)
2:30 - Ezine Cheese (not feta cheese) and Kaşar Cheese
2:38 - Honey and Kaymak (not clotted cream)
2:41 - Pişi (Pishi) with Pastirma and Kaşar Cheese
5:23 - Midye Tava (Fried Mussels)
5:31 - That sauce called “tarator”
6:25 - Midye Dolma (Stuffed Mussels)
10:35 - Etli Ekmek (not Turkish Pizza)
12:08 - Tandır Kebap
16:25 - Döner Kebap
17:21 - Ayran
18:20 - Cag Kebap
22:06 - Fistikli Kebap (kebap with pictachio) normally you wouldn't have one with pine nuts and cheese. This must be the restaurant's own take on it.
23:54 - The side dishes are “Mezes” not dips. You normally don’t dip your kebap into them. The mezes available there: Haydari, Acili Ezme, Patlican Salatasi, Muhammara, Humus
29:34 - Çiğ Köfte (raw meatball)
32:20 - Uykuluk (Thymus)
32:32 - Koç Yumurtasi (ram testicles)
34:11 - Raki
37:07 - Kokoreç (kokorech)
38:27 - Şalgam
43:29 - Mumbar
44:26 - Şırdan (Shirdan)
45:10 - Kelle (lamb heads)
48:42 - Büryan Kebap
49:52 - Perde Pilavi (curtained rice)
52:30 - Künefe
1:06:55 - Baklava (Carrot Slice Shape)
It's natural to name an unfamiliar dish by its ingredients or compare it to another dish that seems similar, but it's also somewhat unfair.
22:06 is fistikli kebab its not an adana kebab.

Thank you for your kind words. Much love from Turkey! 🇹🇷

You don't just talk, you're so quick witted and hysterica! Never a dull moment. Just love that about you/your show!
True! That SugarBae comment was genius!

It just shows you that hospitality doesn't know any bounds. To make someone feel at home in your country is a special bond and it's even better paired with food.
Love their hospitality ♥️♥️♥️♥️.
Was hanging out at my parents house, and the kid they help by giving him work told me “Oh I love this show! I watch it every night!” Thought y’all should know. I’m 38 and he’s 15. That a good broad demo appeal. 😊
That's a country I could definitely eat my way through ❤
🤣😆🤣
Was thinking the same as well
@@valentineisraelshabangu4069 🤣😆🤣
I am Turkish and this might be the best representation of our food on RUclips ! Thank you. You seemed to genuinely enjoyed it lol :) I need to go eat Nusret sometime at least once in my life lol.
Ty so much for sharing. Visited Istanbul recently and made sure to go to Guvenc Konyali and had the dish you recommended. Family and I loved it and this was one of the most memorable meals we had in Turkey.
I was this year in Istanbul and now I just had the feeling to come back there once more, I hope you enjoyed your time
Everything about the Turkish food in this video looks so tasty. Making me hungry.. Damn!!!!
I was disappointed with their food. It's not like it looks
@@erminkadic1022how does it tastes like
@@erminkadic1022😂😂😂
@@erminkadic1022be careful with “Turkish” restaurants abroad, they use less quality meat (and sometimes straight up less meat!!) in dishes. (Coming from someone born in Europe with Turkish parents)
Many vloggers taste Turkish food and share videos. However, your video has every detail, you have descended into the Büryan kebab well that even I, as a Turkish, have not seen. You have really done a great job.👏👏
This is like a movie length version...How very cool...Thank you I'm convinced I need to visit...
Sonny can you do a Turkish Dessert Tour and find the lesser known desserts and hidden gem places! Please and thank you!
Fantastic food of Turkey!
You didn’t miss anything. Men, I loved the video!
this is probably one of the best food tour video I've seen
i stayed in istanbul for 5 days in Besiktas, it was great trip and yes the food is outstanding and cheap
It's not cheap anymore.
Some of the best Turkish restaurants I have ever been to were in Atlanta 8n Dekalb County, Georgia. Miniatures of this, though I didn't know it at the time. I am horribly impressed by the depth of thoroughness of this show!
don't worry, you probably ate the original versions. in istanbul, at places like this guy has been, they kinda exaggerate the portions. not many of us turkish here also had a 4 feet long kebap or that chicken dumpling with that much waste of the salt either. just tasty food enough for a regular person on any dish is the way we go too.
I can't believe I watched the whole hour-long video as a vegan and still love it.
lol me too
Listen to your heart befor time is going😂
I have good news... There are many times more vegan dishes in Turkiye than what you see in the video.
Turkey it's one of my new travel place wonderful 😊
Not even 15 minutes in and it's already incredible what skills the chefs have!
After this video I'm seriously considering a trip to Istanbul
Turkish food are the best. Turkish have the biggest kitchen in the intire world! But I'm a little reproachful about this. Because Turkish cuisine does not get the recognition it deserves. So I would like to address those people who do not know about Turkish food culture and who have prepared a list of the best cuisines in the world. Turkish cuisine is the number 1 in the world! 🇹🇷
We are used to not being appreciated no matter what the issue is. I think the world owes us an apology.. :)
Song choises are on point. Thanks for that. Most of people thinking we are Arabs just because most of our people are Muslim. But we are not. We have one of the unique culture in the world that has a harmony with Turkic and Muslim culture.
I love the credit: Camera Operator: Wife🤣. No need for more lol. Love the video, an hour went by so fast. Thank you guys.
This is the best video I've seen among foreigners promoting the food of my country. 1:06:41 I like your move there 👌
0:16 dude why does every tourists make this mistake :((
What mistake? He said Istanbul instead of Ankara right?
The first time I saw your video, I almost press the back button, but I decided to let your video run for a few seconds, before I know it - I got hooked. You're very funny. You're blunt but you managed to say it in a nice way with loads of funny comments. I love watching your videos.
Turkish street food is one of the best in the world ❤️
You're having a laugh, you...
the best foods in the world bro 1:Turkey 2:Greece luv from Greece@@englishjames007
The food looks to amazing and the people looked really friendly, i'd love to go.
This was your best video yet. Very entertaining and informative. Sad when it ended.
I'm headed to Turkey in 3 days. Glad I found this video 😊
Do not be fooled by comments that denigrate the country. They are the most hospitable and warm-blooded people in the world. Those who make false and unfounded comments are generally citizens of racist countries who do not like Turks. I saw this with my own eyes when I went there. As someone from Northern Europe, I have had experiences that are the exact opposite of what is said. I had such a great time.
Welcome :)
man what an amazing looking architecture and amazing food! the people seem so nice too. i wanna go there one day
your videos is like therapy but a successful session hahahah
