    Pro tip from my buddy Chris: When using a shitty pump, its easier to heat up the new fluid in a hot water. That will decrease the viscosity so it will flow easier.

    There are some rubbish MX-5 videos in RUclips but these are superb. Really clear and straightforward. Thank you.

    I just wanted to share with you how much I appreciate your videos. I honestly have seldom seen SUCH high quality and clarity in instructional videos. You really cover every single angle and aspect (including disclaimers).
    Now, I have recently moved back to the United States after being away for 18 years and pulled my old 1990 Miata out of storage. It was in serious need of tender care and I have been restoring it for the past few weeks.
    Your videos have been such an enormous help (and joy) in helping refresh my memory where and how to accomplish certain tasks - as well as always noting what to look out for!
    So again, from the bottom of my heart - thank you for your efforts and the time you've taken to share your knowledge and insights with the rest of us.
    Jinba Ittai ;-)

      That's so nice of you Franz, these kind of comments make me so happy! I do put a lot of time and effort in these videos and it's always nice to read comments like these, it really makes it all worthwhile! Good luck with your restoring project!

    Excellent Video; however, I had trouble finding info on Automatic Transmission fluid changes (especially for 2006-2009 Miata NCs). On the Manual Trans. there are Fill and Drain bolt (top-Bottom 23mm and 24mm) BUT on an Automatic Transmission there is a 24mm Top fill bolt (on the side) and a regular Transmission Pan drain plug "under" the transmission with a 9/16 bolt. Also the Side Top Fill bolt has a "rubber" washer gasket (NOT a crush washer) so just snug it to keep it drain coming out (wouldn't torque it hard). My 2007 Car Manual calls for JWS-3309 Trans fluid and I found three types on EBAY/Amazon...Mazda Fluid, Aisin ATF-OT4 and Idemitsu ATF Type M. Also the Automatic Transmission takes three and 1/2 quarts to fill. The rear Differential has two bolts 23mm fill and 24mm drain (both with crush washers and torqued to 25-33 ft lbs). I used Redline 75w90 gear oil..took less than 1 quart.

    Great video (as is the one about jacking the Miata). How do those of us with only two ramps or two jack stands for the back do this work if a requirement is that the car must level to put in the right amount of fluid? Not everyone has a hydraulic lift in their garage :)

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  Год назад +1

      Hey Don, sorry for the late reply but the car needs to be level to do this job properly so I would suggest getting another set of jack stands and put jackstands in all four corners. Check out my Framerails installation video to see what I mean.

    Can you use the same pump as you did for the transmission or will you need to clean it/buy a new one? If so, how would you clean it?

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  2 года назад

      I got the same fluid for my diff and transmission so I did not have that problem but if not I would have removed the tubes and sprayed brake cleaner in them to remove any fluid that is left in the tubes. After that I would do the same with the pump. That would be sufficient

    I'm wondering if I have an open diff or lsd, how can I tell? I'm not sure because I find it easy to slide.. But am considering the possibility that I just need to change the oil urgently x)

    • @abbyseipert3457
      @abbyseipert3457 Год назад +2

      You can look up the options package with a VIN decoder, but there’s also a guide online (kinda hard to find in search results) that describes the features of the VLSD vs open. This is assuming you have a 90-93.
