  • In this video I'm going to do some maintenance on the car and that is changing the motor oil and the oil filter! There will be a couple of useful tips in this video that can help you with your oil and filter change so check it out!
    One of the biggest Miata discussions is which oil is the best for your Miata and there are so many conflicting answers so I encourage you to do your own research and draw your own conclusion what’s best for your car. It also depends on where you live and how you use your car.

    really like your videos....thank you for doing them. Just a side note for all the viewers out there. Always check your engine oil in the morning before the car is started for proper oil level. You are checking the oil level in the crank case....the morning oil check allows for all the oil to drain down off the valves, heads, ect.....I might be being too picky here, but that is the proper way to check your oil level. Just throwing it out there...Thanks again!

      yooo, you just write the next oil change needed either date wise or mile, KM wise on a sticker and put it on the top left of right side of your inside windshield like all professional shops do. Why look under your car when you can just look up (in the car).

    Well folks, this is about as good as it gets on RUclips. I'm assuming that if you're watching this video, you are into cars or Miatas. If you are a car guy or gal, you NEED to know how to change your own oil. I've seen a lot of scams in my life at oil change places; some don't always change your filter but tell you they did. Do it yourself, and you will always know that it's done right. This video is the right way to do it. Good job mate!

    My filter was proper stuck. I was able to hammer it free from the top side, using many lengths of 3/8" extensions fed through from the throttle cable mechanism at the inlet. First using a big flat bit socket. That created a dent, then a hole, without the filter budging. Swapped to decent size unbraco bit for the win.

    You ever find sometimes the oil cap can be a P.I.T.A to unscrew? Just apply some grease or oil to the threads before turning it back on and it will be user friendly next time you want to undo it if you are low on oil or doing the next change. I like how you wore gloves for the whole thing being careful except actually applying new oil to the filters gasket with your bare finger, that made me chuckle some.

    I use 5w30 semi-synthetic high milleage engine. I have 136 000 km in mine. First i used this rotella full syntec T6 and let me tell you, it was not good. Synthec particles are smaller than dino oil and clean too much of the old oil deposit, my car started to sweet oil. If you track i guess you have a nice place to work on your car and change all the rubber seal as you want. For normal dealy driver, just use normal oil or semi-syntec. Changing oil is fun.

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  7 лет назад +2

      As I said, one of the biggest discussions is which oil is the best for your Miata. I hear what you are saying but there are also guys that say full synthetic is the way to go. At the end of the day you have to draw your own conclusion. If my engine starts sweating oil like crazy, I'll switch to something different. Thanks for sharing your experience tho!

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  2 года назад +1

      On the five liter jug there is a line which indicates how much fluid is left. I just eyeball it and I keep checking how much fluid is left. If it’s at the 1,5 liter mark I know that 3,5 liter is in the engine

  • @ansolfa
    @ansolfa 6 лет назад +1

    First of all your engine is liking oil from the back
    When you showed the bottom of the engine you can notice that in between the engine and the clutch is completely dirty of oil.
    Second thing... To avoid to spill the oil on top of the engine you can pull out the small transparent funnel which is on top of the oil gerrican 😉.

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  6 лет назад

      Yeah she likes oil very much haha.. no I get what you’re saying, she’s leaking oil.. I need to replace the valve cover gasket 😅 about the transparent funnel, it will help for sure but you can still spill the oil with that.. ask me how I know 😒 the best thing you can do is use a separate funnel. Thanks for the response tho!

    • @ansolfa
      @ansolfa 6 лет назад +1

      MiataMods anyway I appreciate your video and I will probably remove the "small black barrel in which arrives the fume from the tank following your guide

    • @davidolley9528

      By all means, use a separate funnel, but pulling out the translucent filler neck allows ALL the oil in the can to be used! That is why it is there as well as allowing a smooth flow of oil.

    Isn't it recommended that the car is level to make sure all the oil goes out? You have it only jacked in the front.

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  7 лет назад +1

      As far as I know it's not recommended but I can imagine that you can drain a little bit more oil if the car is level. So yeah, if you don't mind the extra effort it can't hurt to jack the car up entirely but I also think that it's not going to hurt the engine if a little bit of oil is left behind. It's up to you! Thanks for your contribution tho!

    It looks like you raised the front end 4" or 5" from the bottom of the front tires to the floor, but is there a reason you do not raise the car for easier access? Love your videos.

      @MiataMods  Год назад

    Have a question for you. Do you often see metal particles in your oil? My 1994 has 15k original miles. And I see them in the drain pan.

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  4 года назад

      Hmm maybe a very little amount. I don't want to worry you but having metal particals in your oil is not a good thing.. keep a close eye on how much shavings are in your drain pan. If it increased you may need to go looking for a different engine before the current one brakes.

      Bij een nieuw oliefilter moet je niet kijken naar de grootte want je hebt ook een verschil in schroefdraad etc. Het filter is hetzelfde als bij de NA. Als je Googled op '0803NAB35' dan kom je meteen bij het goeie product uit. Succes!

    Hi I was checking your vídeo, and I have one question. The oil level on the dipstick should be right on the mark next to the F or can it be o ver the actual F? Also when I changed the oil it only took about 2.8 liters of oil and it is covering until the F....

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  5 лет назад

      You're doing something wrong if it only needs 2.8 liters because it should be around 3,5 liters. Did you jack up the car before draining the old oil? Are you sure it's 2.8 liters that went into the engine? Also wait maybe 15 minutes after filling the engine with oil before checking the oil level. The oil level should never exceed the F mark. It's never a good idea to overfill the engine. If you overfilled the engine, you need to drain it again en fill it once more.

    • @factorC
      @factorC 5 лет назад +1

      @@MiataMods I did everything like you did on your video. When I removed the oil plug the car was jacked up, and after removing most of the oil, Just to be sure, I put the car on the ground until it stop dropping oil.
      After feeling up the car with the New oil and notice that it took less than 3 liters I thought that it took less than it should it take, but I measured the amont of oil that came out, and it's about the same, and also after running the car for a while, the New oil was Steel pretty clear. If it was some of the old oil remaning on the engine, it would have became in some way less clear..... I think 🙄
      After that I checked with a mechanic and he said that everything was ok. 😐
      Don't know what can it be.... But thanks for your input and keep the good job 👍🏻
